DVC Member Renting from Marriott Member

Hi friends

We are DVC owners at BWV and VWL who need some rental guidance. We have contacted a renter at Marriott Barony Beach about renting a week from them in late May. What procedure(s) should we follow to protect ourselves?
We have agreed on a price $1900 for the week in a 2BR Oceanside. He will send a contract and I am assuming he will want a personal check in return

Any advice you can provide is appreciated.

You might start by reading the suggestions for renting on our DVC Rent/Trade Board as most are things that would apply to any rental transaction.

If you are renting from someone you know, a lot of issues are already covered but if it's from a stranger, be sure to do everything to protect yourself before sending any money. Have you spoken personally with the person? Can they accept a credit card transaction instead of a check?

Personally, I think $1900 is a bit high for that resort in May - have you checked other comparable resorts for the same timeframe? The rental market at HH has been pretty depressed the past 2 years and there are very nice places available for a lot less than that.
