By looking at the qs menu for kids, there are not many options of healthy or items my son would eat. When using the plan at qs, can they tell between an adult or kid item being ordered? Meaning can I order from the adult menu for my son?

Not unless you have paid for him as an adult. If you have purchased the child's plan for him, you must order off the kid's menu, unless there is not one available.

This is one of the reasons why some opt out of the DDP with kids--not as much choice.

You can register your child as age 10 and purchase the adult dining plan for him. You would also have to buy him an adult park ticket if you are on a package that includes tickets. If your child is on the child's plan they must order from children's menus unless the restaurant doesn't have one (there are a few CS - very few - that don't). You can also share your meals with him or trade your meal to him for the child's meal.
