We would love to see any of the Wishers who drifted away come back.
We tend to be an "older" crowd, although; we have several young people with us. We have fast runners and slow walkers (me!), a cranker and everyone in between. There are those who love to workout and those who WISH they loved to workout. We have veteran racers and Newbees too! We applaud your efforts, cheer your successess, and pat you on the back for giving it a try!
This is a New Year and a new month. I think it would be best to keep track of our own miles and minutes in our signatures, but it's NOT required! So many of us were unable to keep track and report that our numbers dwindled down. Let's be sure and recognize all outstanding achievements, but not worry so much about the actual time a miles as a team!
I have my own personal goals this year as I know all of you have too. Let's start our New Year's thread with those!
Mine:
1) lose the weight
2) get healthy
3) race for fun and joy
What are yours?

Hi Connie. I hope your racing again soon also. Like you I have had enough fun with the Goofy, done it twice so from now on I'm doing just one race at a time. I'm planning on the marathon at WDW next year but not a sure thing by any means.
My goals:
Lose 20 lbs
Medal at State so I can qualify for the 2011 National Senior Olympics
Get my life back on track, whatever that means, to soon to tell.

Good Afternoon Team!
Nothing exciting happening. Pilates last night. 5k tonight.
No goals yet for 2010. Trying to figure out the year with races etc. The only forsure is no Disney in January. Haven't completely ruled out the Oct. 1/2.
Connie, Sorry to hear Goofy didn't go the way you had hoped.
Have a great day..........Sue

Thanks guys. I'm Shannan. I'm new to this fitness game. I just started working out at the gym last week and started C25K yesterday. I think I'm supposed to tell you guys how long and how far I went. How often do I do that? Am I missing anything else?

WISH I could be around more, would like to be a member still. If you'll have me.
I need to lose weight, get fit and get ready for a Cancun vacation in July.
Now that's a tall order.

Hi TEAM! :wave2:
Will try to catch up on the post later...
1. Goals for 2010 is to first get this BP medication adjusted!
2. Then get back to healthy weight.
3. Do the strength exercise for my ankle (doctor gave me today)
Although the changes has all ready increased my pulse (heart rate) helping me lose a few pounds.
Do not have my race calendar planned for 2010
I would like to do different races this year not the same ones I did last year.
Well maybe Detroit again :upsidedow
I will not be able to do any WDW races in the near future
No sore muscles from racing. Except the problems with the muscles due to the cold during the full...then I developed a severe headache the day of the full that lasted until today along with a nasty cold.
Going to the Gym tonight. DM with 1.5 incline and upper body weights-was pretty shaky when finished.
Later...

Dave - Thanks for all the nice things you said about me.
Margie - How did the gym go? Are you feeling warmer?
Sue - Thanks for the "condolences?". In some ways, the whole experience is even more beneficial than what I actually planned! Congrats on your great races! Everyone did well under unbelievable conditions!

Shannan-:welcome: glad you joined us!
Connie-still on easy workouts at the gym, but was a bit shaky when I finished. :confused3
Dave-I was not dressed or prepared for that cold then adding in standing around before each race for 2-plus hours-us old people just don't do so good! :lmao: I have never been so cold in my life! The doctor said yesterday it was good I stopped when I did as my body was in trouble and it could have been disastrous.
BP meds not adjusted yet-more changes yesterday.

Hi everyone!
Here are my goals:
Increase my running time in each interval (even if it's just by one minute)
Lose ~7 lbs.
Find healthy foods to eat that don't upset my GI tract.
Went back to the gym this week. Going slow by restarting C25K. Told DH today that I remember when doing that was soooo hard, and now I barely break a sweat. Guess this old gal is getting stronger and more physically fit after all!
It's a rainy yucky day here and I would like to just stay indoors all day, but a crown came off of my tooth last night, so I may need to go into the dentist's to get it replaced. Happy hump day to all!

It's pouring rain here so my walkers met at the mall. We had a good brisk 4.8 miles. Great first walk after the Goofy. I felt strong but didn't push pace or distance.
Margie I'm glad you were wise and stopped when you did.
Connie your wonderful, you deserve nice comments.

Hi everyone! I tried to go running last night but I seem to have a case of sore muscles. I guess Monday's workout was tougher than I thought. My inner thighs are really tight and sore so walking fast or sitting low (like a on staircase) is quite challenging today. I know I have to keep moving but it's tricky at the office without looking like I have ants in the pants :) I'm still planning to give the 3.5 miler another try tonight.
Goals for 2010 ... Hmm... (1) Increase my running distance to prepare for the full in January (2) Drop inches/lean out to go down another clothing size (no particular weight goal in mind) (3) Incorporate yoga into my weekly workout routine (4) Run a 1/2 as close to 2:00 as possible (5) Eat clean for 5-6/week (6) Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night
Shannan - :welcome: Congrats on starting C25K!
Connie - So glad we finally got to meet!! Sorry to hear about your Goofy race. The weather took a lot out of me too. Nothing like standing around for an hour or more in the cold before the start of a race  I also like your suggestion of just putting the hours and miles into our signatures - I have to admit that I'm one of those perpetually late in reporting
Denise - Cancun sounds like fun! Is it just you and Mark or are you bringing your kids as well?
Margie - pixiedust: for your cold! Hope it goes away soon! How about some of the races in the Toronto area :)
Sue - The Wine and Dine 1/2 sounds fun! The only thing that had me worried about that race was the high hummidity. I ran while I was there last October and even at 6:30 AM it was incredibly hummid.
Dave - Are you going to try and get some of your walking group to come to Disney next year?
Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Today was Day 2 of my C25K. I am pretty proud of myself because I actually followed the program today. I downloaded the free podcast from Itunes and it really helped. It was nice to have someeone tell me when to run and walk. My goals are to lose 15 pounds and look hot in a bikini come May. I'm also hoping to run a 5k in May. Long term goal is to do the half marathon in Jan. I'm going to register next month when DH gets his bonus so that way I won't be able to quit. Once I spend the money DH will make damn sure I don't waste it.

As per yesterday. Nothing exciting to report. The usual 5 last night.
Shannan, Welcome!!
Vicky, I see you registered for ATB. :thumbsup2 It's a nice step up from a half.
Margie, Glad to hear you listened to yourself. DH stopped at the mile 20 medical tent. There was a woman seeking treatment who had know idea who or where she was. That's just dangerous.
Lynn, Are you working now or on a break?

"I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best." Marilyn Monroe...
That has nothing to do with anything exercise but a good thing to remember for us guys. If you can't except a lady at her worst we don't deserve their best. Very deep statement and goes for the gals as well as the guys.

Some of you started but didn’t finish, some of you finished but just barley, but all of you gave it your best.
I found this quote here on the WISH board and printed it in red and taped it to my keyboard. All of you had the guts to start, I’m proud of all of you and how you did.
There is no such thing as last. In every race there is an invisible crowd of thousands behind you who didn’t have the guts to start.
I believe I will do this race again – the ½ is enough for me. My goals this year are to get stay healthy, get fit – as fit as I was for the ½ last year and slim down. I am eating better and that should help.
We have had a good year together as a team. For different reasons we have worked hard or hardly worked but it’s been a year of teamwork. Lots of ups and some downs too.
So even though I probably won’t be doing the race next year, it didn’t kill me not to do it this year. I felt sad to be home and not racing to the MK but in the end it’s what was best for me.
We’ve celebrated a birth, an engagement and other milestones and both of those instances have made me more determined to get and stay fit. My goal is to live as long as I can so I can be witness to dear Josie, driving her mother – my daughter Miranda crazy when she’s a teenager!
Life is good!

P.S. Cancun for 2, my neice is getting married in July and Mark and I are going. So excited. It's an all inclusive resort.

Hi everyone,
Glad to see we finally have a January thread.
Okay my goals:
At least 10 races in 2010
Get back to my racing weight (I know this will seem crazy to several of you, but I'm 5' 7" and was at my best racing when I was 115-120 [I'm about 125 now between tapers/recoverys and Christmas weight gain])
Retrurn to vegetarian/experiment with veganism
New PRs in the full and half marathon (BQ in the full and under 1:40 in the half)
5 miles in 44:30 (just under 9 minute pace)
And I have to rub it in to all my Northern friends; it was 65 degrees in Mississippi today when I ran at 4 pm.
Shannan, Welcome!
Best,
Jennifer

I love you. We'll have to work on Josie getting her "JC" on Mir's other baby. :rotfl2:
I too, need to set some realistic fitness goals, once I'm fully recovered from my surgery. I have a wedding to think about. I was better when I was on a WISH team. So, mid-Feb, this gecko should go out and play.

Hey Hope - Gir, welcome to the HM team!
Good Morning:
Mark and I worked out for only ½ an hour but we find that it frees us at night to do other things and balance our life. We’re not so tired when we’re done and we still have a few hours to enjoy the evening – me sewing and he watching TCM.
Last night I went on the dreadmill and Mark did the ellip, tonight we’ll reverse that.
I heard that Eva Mendes used the treadmill on the highest incline and a 3.5 speed. She has a great figure. So I warmed up on a 3 incline and then upped it to 5 for the majority of my time, the last 3 min I used an 8 incline. That was tough but it worked different muscles and felt good.
So far this month I’ve got 120 min of working out, not including my floor exercises and neck stuff.
Today I feel clearheaded and alert. It could be the diet and exercise and of course the 3 nights good sleep. Sleep – it’s such a weapon.
Have a good one.

Hi everyone! Did my first run post-half and it felt pretty good. I still felt a little sore from Monday's workout but once I got going everything felt great. Roads were nice and dry too so it made things easy. I'm planning to hit the gym tonight and then will probably get in another 2 miles on the TM.
Sue - Yes, I'm really looking forward to ATB! I'm a little nervous about the distance but it's really only 5 miles or so longer than a half. Should be okay :)
Jennifer - Awwww! Lucky you! Temps are suppose to warm up here slightly on Monday. I think it was about 44F (7C). Not quite as warm but warm for January.
Scott - That's quite the travel schedule you have there! How do you find the DL 1/2 compares to the WDW 1/2?
Denise - I hear ya on the sleep! I got 8 hours last night for the first time in months and it felt good! :)
Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Vicky, DL 1/2 vs WDW 1/2 is that at DL you are running on mostly surface streets. Entertainment etc is good, that is the big difference.
Dave Recovery is going well getting used to altitude again.

Good day, Hakuna Matata!
Scott - Hakuna Matata, it's a problem free philosophy! Glad to see ya here! :goodvibes Love the travel schedule. Sounds awesome!
Jack - You're continued presence in HK is both welcome and desired! :cloud9:
Hope - Welcome again! Glad you are recovering and things are looking up.
Denise - Good job on the exercising. Why is it harder to keep the same speed on treadmill. My personal theory is that when we walk outside, we can change our pace to suit the conditions, but on a TM it's constant.
Shannon - Spend the money for the race ASAP! It will help keep you motivated even on the days when you want to throw in the dishrag! It always works for me. And keeps me moving. I have only had to miss one! -- You're doing great, keep it up!
Vicky and Denise and Margie! - I don't see how you do it! I couldn't function on less than 8 hours of sleep. I know this because I tend to fall asleep anywhere, anytime if I don't get it! As a matter of fact, when there have been those times when I couldn't get my eight for whatever reasons, I have taken a day off and slept around the clock! :rolleyes1
Well, enough time spent playing this morning. I am still playing ketchup after the vacation and the fiscal year has ended. :scared1:

It sounds like there's enough support to continue to the teams, in some form or another, this year. Lots of decisions to be made, though, so I'm hoping for some more input--specifically from team members:
For more, please see this post to the Teams 2010? thread (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=35100959&postcount=55), of which I've posted an excerpt here:
From what I understand, a (sort of) collective response to the teams seems to be
1) People appreciate the smaller, intimate teams, especially as WISH gets bigger, for team members of active threads, and new WISHers who want to get involved.
2) But people are concerned for about the effects of the teams on the WISH team as a whole, both terms of online activities (weekly/monthly thread, talking with other WISHers, getting more feedback outside one's team, the worries about emergent cliques & feelings of outsiderness) and at physical WISH meets.
It sounds as if the teams will continue in one form or another, whether as a challenge or more like a social thread (like the Bots, the Leaners, or any of the event-oriented threads like the Princess). They seem to serve a purpose for many people. But like others, I'd like to see the team aspect enable more interaction between all members of WISH. Best of both worlds.
Teams: To help facilitate this decision-making, I'd like all team members to take that extra step, go that extra mile (sorry, couldn't resist) to address concerns about the teams' effect. Talk amongst themselves, brainstorm, and have your representative make suggestions. Are you willing to be disbanded and reformed as a new group, starting new teams for an entirely new game with new teammates? If not a miles & minutes challenge, then what? People assigned to your roster or a join-at-will? What could you do to reach out to other WISHers? Etc.
Once teams have reached some sort of consensus, or a collection of ideas, could one person post them to this thread?
Steffwalks

Hi Guys,
Debra has made an assignment. Let's follow through.
We are keeping the team together. right?
We aren't necessarily interested in a collection of times and miles. right?
We are open to any and all team members. Right?
I had made a suggestion that captains post interesting questions and comments on the general board for broad input. I had also suggested that the ice cream socials were fun, but hard to find and read and would be better in their own thread.
Anyone else? Anyone differ from the above? Anyone have better ideas?

I generally go to bed around 10 and sleep around 10:20. Mark’s alarm goes of at 4:35am I roll my butt out of bed anywhere between 5-5:40. That is a big window but it depends on a lot of variables mostly how I’ve slept during the night.
Some days, I’m so tired I’ll go home and nap for about 20 min. Wake up and ready to go.
Some weekends, I’ll be tired so I lay down and sleep up to 2 hours. In a coma. I know you can’t get “caught up” on sleep but if I don’t take a nap when I’m tired, I’m miserable the whole night.
One thing that I tend to forget is that when I’m in pain from my neck, I don’t always realize I’m in pain. I’m just tired. It does sound strange but it’s the truth. If I’m exhausted, I’ll take a couple of Tylenol and POOF, I’m wide awake and ready to go.
Years ago my mother used to say, if only I could get 5 good hours. I feel the same way, I slept last night from 9-4:45 and felt like a new person.
I’ll get my sleep time in even if I have to take it in spurts.

Happy Friday everyone! Got in a good half hour workout at the gym yesterday. My PT pushed up the intensity after I told him about eating the B&C Kitchen Sink ... after eating hamburger and fries. I prefer the harder workouts anyway so I wasn't really complaining too much.
Anyone have exciting plans for the weekend?
Connie - I vote yes to all three of your questions. As for the sleep, I think Sunday night/Monday morning really throws me off. No matter how early I get up on Sunday, I can never go to sleep that night. I usually get about 5 hours then and then the rest of the week is kind of downhill from there.
Margie - Thanks for the sleep pixie dust! Got 7 hours last night :) Glad to hear the BP is doing better! I'm going for my physical next week so I'll have to remember to ask my doctor to explain the BP numbers to me.
Dave - Enjoy the walk indoors!
Hope - Welcome back! What kind of surgery are you having?

My ureter, instead of going from my kidney down to my bladder, went between the artery/vein combo for my lower bits and pieces. When I had my kidney stone, I wound up with scar tissue in there, making the tube smaller and urine would back up causing pain. So they went in with the and rerouted my plumbing and put a stint in. So, I'm off of work to recover until Feb and light duty for awhile.
So, I'm making the best of it and bought my wedding gown and dreaming about my future wdw wedding. All that while doing high impact quilting (handwork on the couch) and movie watching (two in a row without a nap!). Nurse Houdini approves of these activities.

Hi TEAM!
Jack- Good Afternoon...it is nice to get back to a regular routine.
Gosh, we have not had any new snow since we came back from WDW-
No walking or gym for me until I see some improvement in this cold/sinus stuff.
I don't cough much during the day, but do hack most of the night. Must have something to do with lying down? I finally had to start taking Tylenol Sinus-everything hurts & aches. Plus now I am trying the Neti Pot NasaFlo hoping to ward off another serious sinus infection.
My ankle is still a problem and the doctor gave me a list of several strengthening excerise I should do daily. Well, duh - it still hurts to much to do very many of them. :confused3
Vicky- you most likely do not have to be concerned about BP! One of my biggest problems was the medication I was on slowed my heart rate down seriously - and it did Not keep my BP in a safe range. She actually said she did not know how I kept walking. :upsidedow

Hi everyone,
Gorgeous weather once again.
7 miles in just under 63 minutes (a little slow, but I'm still trying not to push recovery too much).
Does laundry count as cross training?

Hi Guys!
Sorry I was out of pocket, yesterday. Had to make a trip to the big city...:lmao: that would be Amarillo...not so big by y'alls standards!
I posted our/MY ideas about the team threads. :) I hope you all agree!
Not much going on. Glad to hear everything is going better for all.

Connie, I definitely understand about big city being relative. Around hear Jackson or Memphis is as big as NYC.
I have to once again brag about the ideal weather. Why couldn't it have been like this during marathon weekend.
5 miles in just under 45 minutes (still getting the speed back post-race) and 15 minute ab series.

Jennifer

Hi again!
Margie seems to be getting worse with her cold. I am thinking it's more than cold!
I got some new orthotics yesterday. Gonna give those a try for awhile.
Jennifer - Yes, big is relative. Amarillo is about 100,000 people and I don't really want any bigger. Although, I have to admit to going to Dallas from time-to-time just to see what a big city looks like. Always amazes me though... two of the biggest cities in Texas, Dallas and Fort Worth, and they built them right on top of each other!!! :lmao: Sounds like your recovery is amazing!!!
Someone mentioned in a different thread about race amnesia! Is there such a thing???
See ya!

good Afternoon Team!
Hi Guys,
Debra has made an assignment.
Yes, I agree with everything you said!!!
Sue - yes I am still working, that is why I can seem to make it on the computer only once a week!!!
Welcome to Shannan and GirTheGecko!!!
Margie - Yes, I could have handled the cold at WDW better if I had my winter running clothes with me! I was really wishing for my fleece lined tights and shirt!
Dave - It was great to see you, if only for a minute at the water stop!
Oh - you wanted goals -
I plan to lose both the 10 pounds I put on since starting to work (and Chrismas indulging), as well as the extra 10 pounds I have been carrying around for several years.
I am hoping the knee will be healed by the end of the year - I was told to give it a year - and that walking will be easier and I can get back to my 15 m/m race pace.
We are planning to do the Space Coast race next year in place of the normal October races at WDW. We are still up in the air about the Jan races. So we will also be trying some new races - maybe some in Denver or Ft. Collins.
We also just got a spinning bike for our basement work out room, I think it will help me strengthen the knee, that is often too sore for weights or even the treadmill.
Sorry I do not get here very often any more, but I do catch up each time I come here.
Have a great day team!
Lynn G

Connie, I missed your comment about race amnesia - if that is anything like not remembering much about what happened during the race, I get that a lot. I could never tell you what the route of a race was, I guess I am not paying much attention to where I am going, just following the person ahead of me.:rotfl:

Mark and I did a small workout. We had many errands to run so we kept it short. It's one thing to have an intense workout and then go to bed in a couple of hours but when we have a full day ahead we need to build up to that . Last year we were at that point but not now and I miss that feeling and hunger for the strength.

Felt kinda lazy after last week 56 hours in 4 days, no wonder I was tired.
Wind has me awake, 27MPH and temp is 24. Coffee is on and will be making a mango compote to go on either pancakes or waffles, waffles sound better. A little wood working after breakfast, some indoor exercise will also be in order.

I had a weird night. I woke at 2am with a thought in my head about starting a company to make protective clothing for warriors, athletes and celeberties in general. Casual clothes like shorts and Hawaiian shirts lined with Kevlar. I woke several times thinking about it. Like for army guys to wear when they are off duty. No idea where that thought came from.
I'm off to the mall to walk since it's screaming rain outside. Actually the screaming part was a neighbor in the apt complex and his wife having a fight.
For me big city is Nashville.

Denise and Mark Good job on the early morning hours. I bet you will be surprised how quickly you are in terrific shape, again.
Margie I am so glad you are feeling better. That flu stuff hurts!
Dave Sounds like a rest was in order. Balance is always a good topic. Out of balance = out of sorts!
Lynn So good to hear from you. Working cuts into play time too hard! -- I can never remember a route either, Lynn. But it's not because of amnesia, it's because I am directionally impaired! I can always remember how bad I felt, or how great I felt and much on the course. I have to admit to being at least as interested in my surroundings as in a PR, maybe even more so! :rolleyes1

This weekend was yucky. I took the day off yesterday and felt horrible. I felt antsy and lazy all day. I set the alarm to go off at 6am. I turned it off and didn't end up going out to run until 9am. It was cold and rainy. I wasn't able to finish the whole C25K workout. I'm hoping to have better luck tomorrow. Does anyone know if they make ID tags for shoes? I realized today that if I was running and got hit by a bus DH would have no idea. Also if someone were to try to call his cell phone from mine he would never answer. I doubt he would answer the home phone either. So my fear is I get hit by a bus and end up at a hospital as a Jane Doe and he doesn't have any clue what happened. This way with a tag then they know who I am and where I live. I know the chances of this happening are slim but weird things always happen to me.

Hi team! Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend! I did my first LR (10 miles) since the half and it went pretty well. No nagging back or knee problems - yay! My ITB is a little tight on the right hand side and my left foot is a little sore. But I'm feeling pretty good :) This morning, I ran 5 miles in half marathon weather conditions but still felt great! No major pains to report either (knock on wood)! Both runs I did at about 10:40 m/m but I'm really happy with the 10 miler!
Shannan - RoadID.com has bunch of ID tags. I have the bracelet. There is a $2 off coupon kicking around somewhere. I'll see if I can find it for you.
Connie - I like the idea of a virtual race! My preference would be for a weekend in spring (or once it warms up).
Margie - Rainy weather here too! Pretty unusual for January but I'll take it over the snow and freezing temps any day. I started thinking about my BP because my mom has BP problems too. I'm going in for my physical next week which probably means blood tests, needles - ick!!
Dave - Wow! That's a pretty interesting idea :) Any plans to work on it?
Scott - You're always making something yummy! Btw, DF and I went to Boma last week and had their bobotie. We both agreed that the recipe you and Lynn came up with is so much better!

We were able to do another workout early so we had time for our other duties. I felt good after and really all day. Not too tired. I think easing Into the process is best for now. We go back to wdw in March for 6 days and plan on a couple of laps around the BW.
Got stuff filed for taxes and new files madep for 2010. I usually take forever to get that done but it was my goal and I'm glad I met the challenge.
Important to set goals in all aspects of life. If we meet them great. If not well at least we gave it our best shot.

It wasn't terrible, but then I did have a morphine buddy and an assortment of drugs to help that out. But I am so thankful that it's on the road to recovery and doing well. It was pretty major surgery even though they used the Da Vinci machine on me.

It's cold here again with a heavy snow forcasted for thursday and friday.
Hope, rest and be ready for spring training princess.

I have to do a better job cross training so I'm going to try and add yoga this week. Dave - You can make Sr Olympics happen. -- Kevlar clothing? I wonder what kind of sewing machine that would require. Upholstery, I think.
Denise - great job on getting out there.
Sue - Five for two days in a row in the rain. That's dedication and inspiration.
Margie - Are you better?
Jennifer - What fun, 10 is a small run!
Shannon - Road ID is definitely the way to go. I actually wear the FIXX ID by Road ID all the time. It's the Dogtag style.
Hope - No rushing. Denise, don't let her rush. It doesn't pay!
Vicky - Awesome on the 10 miles. That would be my really long run before taper, from here on out! ;) -- When I read that you would be good with a virtual race in the spring, my mind said: Wish Easter Egg Roll! But maybe later......like in late May or early June!

Welcome Shannon~RoadID is the one to get~ I was convinced after a bike rider was killed on the highway, his cellphone destroyed and no ID on him. It took 2 1/2 hours to locate family. I would urge everyone who runs, bikes, swims, hikes alone to get one.It also helps alert to allergies and health problems.

Speaking of bad weather, I got our dog walk in this morning, 19 degrees, wind at about 30 mph, our weather station said the wind chill was -10 degrees! It was cold, I haven't been that cold since the races at WDW!
Tried to get in a ride on the bike downstairs, but the knee wasn't cooperating - I am having it injected with fluid (can't remember what it is called) later in the week - sure hope that helps, this is getting really old!

Good Morning Team!
Just a quick drive-by as I’m at work. Shhhhhhhhhhhh.
Got up and did my ellip this morning. I had lead legs so it was a LONG workout despite the minutes it took. When I was done I felt I had at least attempted something in the fitness area – as started my day on the correct foot.
I find that if I can get my butt out of bed and on a machine, I’m more clearheaded at work throughout the day. I also seem to be more efficient with my time in the hours after my workout at home. I was on time in my routine today and early for work.
Take care all, it appears to be a nice day here in NH. Love the January “thaw” we had yesterday with all the rain. Snowbanks are going down but I’m sure they will be replaced with another batch at some point.

I ended up with another Toshiba with a new quad 4 processor. It's supposed to be very fast and it has windows 7. I'm having the Geek Squad install a better anti virus and anti spy than McAfee. The mcAfee couldn't find the worm and was telling me my old machine was fine.

Hey Shannon,
A virtual race is one in which you don't get together and run a race. All the entrants do it in their hometown, on their favorite machine or trail, in your own time and report back to the others via the internet.
I hope that made sense.

Hi everyone! I took the evening off from running. I wanted to give my foot a rest because I've been having some foot pain. I mentioned it to my doctor during the physical yesterday and she seemed to think it might be a hairline fracture. I'm going to have my physio double check because I think it's just a tweaked muscle or joint. Just to make sure before I go in and get a dose of xray radiation.
I also asked for a blood test (cholesterol, sugar, etc.) - which I didn't really want to do but thought I should know where I stand health-wise. She told me that doctors don't usually order blood tests unless there is a family history of something or unless I'm over 40. Interesting... Anyway I did push and got her to requistion a few tests. Now I just have to make sure I don't chicken out.
Robert - :welcome:
Margie - Hope you're feeling better today!
Sue - I heard several people saying the same thing about getting out of bed. Definitely looking forward to the new month and to the family day vacation in a couple of weeks.
Denise - I miss my morning workouts but the later mornings in the winter makes it difficult to get up. Maybe I should just get up and do an exercise DVD instead of running...

Today was rest/cross training day. 45 minutes of Yoga and 15 minutes of core work.
Best,

I was actually able to sit at my sewing machine and work on a project. Yay! The tummy is doing better. My scabs and glue are coming off, so they itch. Sewing is a good distraction. So now I can catch up on the quilty projects before I go back to work.
WTG everyone keeping up with their work outs! Hope everyone else with aches and pains is taking it easy and much pixie dust your way!

Thanks for the warm welcome all :grouphug:
I am back working on getting into some shape again. As with many people 2009 has be a tough year on my family and I ate myself to feel better. 2010 is a new year with my old self coming back. I will drop the weight gained and have my happy self back. No more feeling sorry for myself.
Did about 6 miles today scouting a couple of race courses on 2(of my many) races that I RD.
Tomorrow is off to gym. That will be 6th day in last 10 days. Finally back on the bandwagon.
Every have a great night!

Good Morning Team.
Welcome Robert & Kristie!!
Cold wind & temps. for the next few days. Might need to run at the gym tonight instead of outside. Just don't think I can face the DM.
Vicky, Can't wait for family day. Hope your foot is feeling better.
Have a great day. Stay warm..........Sue
Thanks for all the warm welcomes.:grouphug:
Incase anyone doesn't know I race a crank chair.
Training is much like yours I just go faster and further, I don't even start to warm up until mile 8!!!
I'm currently waiting for my new chair to be made, it should be ready on the 4th, and then I am racing with it on the 7th. I thought I might as well learn how to use it in a race.:rotfl:

Howdy Team!
What a nasty day here! It is sleeting and snowing and blowing. The whole panhandle of Texas is closed along with the panhandle of Oklahoma, western Oklahom and Eastern New Mexico! A good day to stay in the Jammies!
Welcome new Members! Everyone Please vote for your favorite race idea! And be sure to volunteer to help your captain! :lmao:
Vicky - Best wishes on that foot!
Sue - Good to see you. Just how fast are you???
Syko - How long does it take to get a new chair? Will it be better (ergonomically more correct, wind resistant, etc) or just newer?
Dave - We want pics of those snow pandas!
Robert - A lot of us are working on self improvements in order to work on race improvements! 2009 was really hard on a bunch of us! Good to have a new member of the club to push us on!
Hope - Sounds like improvement is being made by leaps and bounds! We will have you up and using your preferred method of mobilization soon! Do you sew or quilt or both?
Margie - Your welcome! Good to see your improvement!!
Jack - budget? Hate those. The more zeros there are, the more I hate them! -- Cats are easier!
Jennifer - Do you have a plan with your team? YOU can inspire them to greatness!
Think I will go make chili, now. It's a good day for it!
Hakuna Matata! Connie
Chairs take between 4 -7 weeks to make and they are made to measure.
My new one will have me 2" of the ground and almost lying down.
The one I have now I sit upright.
The main advantage is the speed, at the moment my top speed on the stright is around 22mph and 43 down hill.(I could go faster down hill, but i'm a chicken) The new chair can go 45 on the stright and 65 down hill.:scared1:

Hey Connie!

Hi everyone! Seems like we're getting a little bit of that snow too! We have automatic blinds at work and when they closed 30 minutes ago, it was nice and sunny. They opened back up a minute ago and it looks like a whiteout! Here's hoping it will pass!
Thanks for the all the good wishes for my foot! It's definitely feeling better today so I'll give the TM a try after training. I'm thinking because it doesn't hurt, I won't need an xray but I'll double check with my physio.
Kirstie - :welcome: So glad you're on our team!! I didn't realize your new chair was so fast! Isn't 45 mph the speed limit for cars in some areas? Or maybe I'm converting that incorrectly we use km/h in Canada.
Connie - I voted for May 2. Is that a real day? Pretty appropriate for some of the runners I've passed before.
Margie - and pixiedust: Do you think it might be a sinus infection?
Kim - Saw your thread about who's not going in 2011. Are you and Mike still going?
Hope - Glad you're on the mend! Do you have any pics of your quilts? Denise has posted some of her stuff before and its gorgeous!
Sue - There are never enough holidays :)
Have a great day everyone! :wave2:
Where I live most roads have a 25mph speed limit, I've come close to it several times!!!!
We do have one road that is a 40 and that is where I will train for my speed work.
Dh is going to drive the car behind me with his hazard lights on and we are going to write "racing wheelchair in front of this car" on the rear shiled.

After bee last night I was very tired but excited as we always gab like crazy and plan upcoming events. Many thoughts swirl in my mind so it’s difficult to settle down.
4:30 came mighty quick. So I slept in and rested. I find that if I work out 2, rest 1 I’m good. So today would be my rest day. Having said that, I sometimes hear music that makes me want to work out and makes me feel guilty if I don’t. Like I SHOULD be doing something……
Flip on the radio on my way to work and heard Living on a Prayer by Bon-Jovi. Poof, my mind says, well you could work out tonight before dinner…. so that’s my plan. Thursday is generally my longer workout time since I usually take Friday off since it’s ‘date night”. Never mind that we haven’t done that in a while…
Saturday we go to the big city. BOSTON. The movie that Nick worked on last year Mystery Team is playing near Harvard so we’re going to make a day of it. Museum of Science to see the Harry Potter exhibit – traveling props and costumes and then the 2:45 movie. We’re only an hour away so it’s not a huge deal but driving in Boston is always a challenge. My workout will be walking the streets of Boston with temps in the teens and blowing winds. At least it won’t be snowing!
Have a great rest of the day. Hope all your aches and pains, be them heartaches or physical pains, get better soon.

Connie- It is sleeting and snowing and blowing. The whole panhandle of Texas is closed along with the panhandle of Oklahoma, western Oklahoma and Eastern New Mexico! I just cannot come to terms with the southwest having the snow, sleet, and blizzards.
Vicky- Yes, I had a severe case of the 'flu bug', plus a sinus infection, and problems with my right ankle. :sad1: Still cannot be outside in the cold very long. I did shovel, but just the walk. Glad your foot is doing better!
Kristie- I'm with Vicky you could get a speeding ticket! :scared1: My new one will have me 2" off the ground and almost lying down. Yikes-that would make me a wreck! Awesome that DH is there!
Denise-have fun in Boston! We know the Blustery weather will not stop you. :upsidedow

Happy Friday everyone! What a chilly day! I went by the running store to pick up a balaclava for my LR tomorrow. I also grabbed a pair of longer wool socks. The high for tomorrow is only -9C (15F?). Sunday is suppose to be warmer but I usually like to get my LRs done with on Saturday.
Ran at the gym yesterday after my workout for about 2 miles and felt pretty good. It was a moderate pace for me 10:32 m/m. Foot felt great so I'm looking forward to getting out there tomorrow - even if it will be chilly!
Dave - Stay warm and safe!

Well the temps have fallen and it's quite chilly in Toronto. When I left for my run this morning, the weather station said it was -18C (-0.4F). I bundled up but found it hard to breathe in the cold air. I used my balaclava but had a hard time taking in enough air - plus it kept fogging my sunglasses up. When I took them off, I ended up with ice on my eyelashes. Still ended up with a good pace over the 6K - 9:56 m/m :)

Yes, from me too!
Welcome to Kristie and Robert!
It sounds like we have had the best weather in the team! Last week was really mild, no rain or snow, although mostly cloudy alot of the time. This weekend has been nice, I did make it out to the mailbox (almost a mile) with the dogs after spending the afternoon watering the trees - some day I am going to wear my garmin while I am doing that, I have 2 hoses going, one in front and one in back, and I constantly go from one to the other moving each from bush to tree - I bet I put on more than a mile with all those trips back and forth!
I was very lazy this last week, got down a few times to ride the bike, but only once for weights. I have gotten a new NSAID from doc which will hopefully work better than the last - also got the first shot of the Orthovisc in my knee on Friday - 2 more shots the next 2 fridays, they say the knee will feel better in 6 - 8 weeks!
Have a great week everyone! I will try to get back here before next weekend - but no promises.
