Only being familiar with Disney and their prices can a family of 4 eat without breaking the bank. We're usually the food court/ counter service with maybe one good meal a day type on vacation? Will we have a problem at Universal/IOA, including resorts there?

If you have no trouble eating at Disney, you'll be fine at Universal...

I tend to think that the resort food at Universal is more expensive than at WDW. We generally stay at WL and are used to popping in at Roaring Forks. This time we stayed at RPR and did not eat there once and there was nothing we found that compared to Roaring Forks. A burger and fries was $10 and one day in the elevator a woman told me that a muffin and a cup of coffee had cost her $5. Th prices in the parks were similar to WDW, however. We generally eat at WL, but at RPR we never ate there. We were fortunate to have our own car and ate off-site several times.

Don't forget about the 10% discounts with AP or AAA card at many of the park eateries!
Confisco Grille in IOA is one of our fave lunchspots now. Lite, but filling, sandwiches/burgers were $8-$10 (table service with excellent A/C). 3 of us with AP disc. ate for $33. We all got the souvenir Spiderman cups for drinks too, so that added a couple bucks. (cup is 24 ozs & perfect for using your own beverage, NOT MINI-BAR STUFF, to take down by the hotel pool!)
Resort food too pricey for our liking. Have a drink in Jakes at RPR and eat a bucket of free peanuts they set out at bar!
