We're staying at DCR and would like to take a day trip to Versailles. Anyone done this before? We are planning to take the train. Any suggestions on parking near the train station. Any info. you can pass on is appreciated.

We went to Versailles when we were at DLP last October. We looked at taking the train, but in the end decided to drive and I'm glad we did because we were exhausted after walking around the (gorgeous) estate for hours. The drive there wasn't too bad at all but we got caught in rush hour/accident traffic on the way home so that took much longer.

We had to queue for almost 2 hours to get tickets and get into the Palace so if you can buy tickets in advance I would recommend it. I think that you can get tickets from Fnac, which has a shop in the Val d'Europe. The Palace was great to visit but very crowded and the highlight for us was the area around the Petit Trianon and Marie Antionette's estate. It looked as if there was free parking in that area so that may be worth looking into because the main car park was pretty expensive.

You can also buy tickets in advance on line here: http://billetterie.chateauversailles.fr/online/index.aspx
Even if you don't do the palace (very busy inside!), you can spend a day in the gardens and hire a row boat on the lake :goodvibes

We also drive.

There is a large car park at the front of the palace. When it's busy, you may have to queue for a while to get in.

Alternatively, the locals park for free alongside the main road running to the side and rear of the palace gardens.
