Furniture cleaning

I purchased a gently used couch, loveseat and chair for the basement of our new home. I would like to clean it, but I am wondering if I am better off renting a steam cleaning machine, or buying one for future use (carpet, vehicles, etc.). Does anyone have one of these machines? Do you like it or dislike it?
