I just called this past week to attempt to get a studio the Saturday before Easter Sunday. We are going on the 4 night Wonder cruise on Easter Sunday. I really didn't think there would be any availability due to how popular this travel time is and the short notice. To my suprise I had my pick of studios. There was availability at both AKVs, SSR, OKW, BWV and VWL. The only ones not available were BLT and BCV. I was shocked. Do you guys think it is the economy or what???

ETA: My thread should have been titled "Easter Weekend" not "weekend before Easter." OOPS!

I met a woman yesterday at my DD soccer game who is a DVC owner. She has been out of work for almost a year - no trips planned for her!

I think many members routinely check in on a Sunday and out out on the following Friday or Saturday. Since the weeks surrounding Easter are Premier season, those weekend nights are quite expensive - the most expensive DVC offers (for points), in fact. So it's not a huge surprise that you found availability for Holy Saturday.

Good for you. Enjoy the cruise.

It is very common to find a weekend night open even in the highest demand times because many members avoid the higher point cost weekend nights.

I am sure a combination of reasons - economy probably being number one. About two weeks ago I had to cancel our 10 night trip (4 nights at BCV) Easter week. (Medical reasons - my mom and my bil). I hope and am sure someone's waitlist came through.

I agree. Friday & Saturday nights are much easier to get and when you throw in premier season, it's not a surprise. An AKV savannah view studio would be 34 points vs 21 on Sunday.

For us we can not travel anymore at Easter, the schools have changed the holiday break times, so Easter is a 3-4 day long weekend with the spring break coming weeks after teh holiday. No way we would ever be able to go at Easter again. For me this year the kids have off for a four day weekend but I have to go to work on the Monday after Easter for staff development.:confused3

I think the fact that the week leading up to Easter (and the one following) is Premier Season, also affects the availability. I'm so pleased that my kids' spring break does not revolve around the Easter holiday. We only had to deal with Magic Season points, which while up there, are significantly less than Premier Season.
