I want to try to make DS3 a handprint quilt....saw a great book called Calendar Kids: Handprint quilts....I have no idea where to start! I have never quilted anything before. I am planning on buying the book but I don't know if it has quilting directions or just ideas for the 12 months of handprints and other quilts. I do have a sewing machine but I have only had it a short time and have not made much with it. Has anyone used this book or made a quilt? I would love any advice, suggestions, directions :)
I won't actually put the quilt together until the end of the year when all 12 months are done but I don't even know what type of fabric to get! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I guess my first question is how much sewing have you actually done? Quilting is easy and so is sewing but it's like driving a car...you have to start slowly and pay attention to the details!

If you have little sewing experience, I would recommend you take either a sewing class or a quilting class...or both. And yes there is a difference. If you are comfortable sewing and have a basic knowledge of fabrics and alot of the terms associated with both, then buy the book and possibly a basic quilting book and experiment.

As for the fabric...quilting can possibly work with any type of fabric BUT! 100% cotton works best. Most fabric stores and online fabric sources have quilting departments. Also fabric stores are a good place for your information for quilting and/or sewing.

Best of luck! Jenn
