With a short flight to Barcelona it actually makes a nice change not to have an expensive and long flight from UK to Orlando before we cruise:banana:

Scott and I are doing this cruise, then the first Baltic, I was just curious to see if anyone had started a thread for this one - not much activity so far, will see if more folks jump on here! I know there are several others doing the B2B, but that thread did not survive too long either.

Hope to meet some of you folks on the ship! Looking forward to visiting Barcelona again!

Hi! We're coming over to this cruise thread. We have had the June 24 Baltic booked since the day they opened the bookings, but decided after a new home purchase it might be best to circle our wagons a bit and build our cash reserves back up. We happily discovered military rates on this cruise, so it's a vacation to Europe afterall for this family. We are Scott and Adrianna (too dang old to have a toddler) and Aidan (7) and Lucy (3). Boy, I really need to change the pictures on my signature, eh?

Hi All,

Glad to see someone finally started a thread for this cruise (guess we could have, just no time).

We're doing this min-repo and then the first Baltic B2B. Looking forward to seeing Scott and Lynn again.

Scott - Gordy wants to know if the Grass Skirt frat is having a meet? (and no kilts, grass skirts only!! :rotfl2::rotfl2:)

Does anybody know what the dining schedule is going to be in terms of theme nights for this cruise? Just trying to decide on a Palo night.

Somebody asked what to do for a couple of hours in Barcelona? When we were there last time for the 1st Med we had a great time walking Las Ramblas. The public market in the middle is absolutely amazing, puts our grocery stores to shame. We also spent most of a day at the maritme museum at the end of Las Ramblas if that is your kind of interest.

Work has/is crazy but we'll try to keep up with the Boards.

Good Evening Cruisers!

Hi Bob, Dale and Gordy! Scott says to tell Gordy that a grass skirt is nothing more than an Hawaiian kilt - I am not sure what that means about the grass skirt frat get together. I am glad you manage to keep up with the boards, I can only make it here once a week!

Have a great week all!

Hello, we are considering this itinerary and hoping that we can get a good
deal on the fare. Any idea how well this date is selling?

Am guessing not so well. We were able to get a midship (slightly aft) room in a Cat. 5 a week ago. They are giving targeted discounts to military and apparently travel professionals and will likely try to market to Europeans to taste the Disney experience as well. Keep checking back.

I think the itinerary is ideal with three at sea days. We're thrilled to be going and spending a few days in Barcelona beforehand.

Best of luck,
Adrianna

There are some substantial discounts out there if you qualify for an "interline" rate. I think they may been booking a bit more now because when I booked there were all three of our categories available (for interline they list everything as either Inside, Outside or Balcony). Today I see that it is listed for only Inside and Outside (glad I got my verandah!). But that does not necessarily mean anything I suppose.

Am I crazy to try and fly in to Paris and do a few days at DLP and then head down to BCN? Hmmm.

Good Afternoon Cruisers!

We are flying into London, doing a few days there, then flying to Paris and driving to Normandy for a few days, they flying to Barcelona for a few days before getting on the ship. A few days at DLP sounds fine - we just do not want to go there in the summer!

Have a great week all, and Happy Valentines Day!

I just had the realization that I'll be booking shore excursions in less than two weeks!

We haven't yet bought our plane tickets, but right now the plan is to leave Houston on May 31 and arrive in Barcelona on June 1. We have been looking at hotels in Barcelona. Our kids are young enough that we'd still rather have them in the same room. Rooms that sleep 4 in Barcelona are slim pickins. I think we've found something in a beautifully restored hotel that offers suites near the waterfront. It gets high ratings on the Travel for Kids website, though it is a bit of a trip into downtown Barcelona to see the sights.

Still haven't decided whether or not we'll do a post trip stay in London. Am thinking not as 12 days is a long time to be abroad with a three year old.

In Gibralter you need to go up to the top of the hill and see the monkeys! Just be sure that you do not bring any food outside of the resturant or you will get attacked:scared1: Cadiz is a nice city to walk around, we did the walking tour last time we were there, and this time will probably just walk around on our own. We have never been to Lisbon, so can't say anything about that.

I put off the dog walk until later today, just could not face the dark, cold and wind all at the same time - later I will just have to face the cold and wind but it will be sunny! It is warmer - it was 27 degrees this morning, but with 25mph winds, the wind chill was about 2 degrees.

The wind has picked up and now it looks more like Cheyenne, with bare spots of grass visible and larger drifts of snow.

Have a great day all - after today I am back to working the early shift so will not make it back here until the weekend.

We got three inches of snow here in the greater Austin, TX area yesterday, so I am dreaming of a sunny vacation to keep me warm.

These are our plans so far:

Gibralter Walking Tour: This is the only shore excursion that offers a tour of the siege tunnels and the cave on their "rock" tour.

Seeing Seville: Guided tour of Seville, a two hour bus ride from Cadiz.

We still haven't decided what to do in Lisbon. It will for sure be some sort of grand tour--several are offered. My only worry is that all three port stops occur back to back to back and we may be pretty beat by the time we reach Portugal.

Hi Everyone:wave2:
I'm on this cruise and I am literally counting the days!

It's great to see some info on the excurisons...does anybody have any idea of suitability for children, they are 4 & 3? We are planning on just totally relaxing and not bothering with excursions, but I do like the idea of the monkeys!

Tempres, have never stayed at that hotel so can't advise on that...but have you looked at lastminute.com? They have some great deals on London hotels. You can usual pick up 4* rooms for £75-80 in Central London, including "brands" like the Hilton.

We have a three year old as well, and our kids do pretty well touring. A few years ago, we cruised with a couple who left their kids on board the ship in the child care and explored all of the ports by themselves. To each their own.

Just out of curiosity, are they running specials in the UK for this cruise? I notice it has been filling up a bit the last few days.

Hi Adrianna,
There are no UK specific deals (I hope not anyway!) we are cat12 gty which was $899 & $799 for the children. This seems to me to be good value, knowing what we usually spend when on holiday in Europe, this works out pretty reasonable per day. Hopefully it won't be TOO full!

Only 98 days to go! Can't wait to book Palo!

Good Morning Cruisers!

I really enjoyed the monkeys at Gibralter, and if the walking tour of Gilbralter is the same as it was on the first transatlantic - then it was a good tour. We got to see the monkeys then we walked to the seige tunnels, then down thru the town.

Welcome to the new cruisers!!!

Was anybody else booking tonight? Got everthing I wanted, only my spa appts required creative booking. I was surprised at the number of sea day massages that were already spoken for at the 90 day mark. Must be all the platinum/gold/suite people. 3 cruises down, 2 to go for gold. We managed to get a military rate on a Cat. 5, but when we booked, I kept telling the travel agent to book ASAP. Figured it might be some sort of mistake and they'd come to their senses. DCL kept military rates on balconies for a few weeks though. My husband is "between jobs", pretty much driving a desk for pay, so he's been burning a ton of leave lately. Good luck!

I have a few questions:

How is everybody getting back from the port at Dover to London? Are you staying over? If so where? The prices of the hotels Disney picked are almost as much as the cruise!

Has anybody looked up how the weather will be for that time of year? How are you packing? We are flying on a discount airline from Germany and are limited in luggage.

Barcelona's supposed to be in the mid 70's, I'd guess the rest of the Iberian peninsula and the UK a little cooler. On a seven night cruise you have a formal night and a semi-formal night. Many women will wear ball gowns for the former and cocktail dresses for the latter. My husband wears his mess blues, but if it's a space issue you can rent a tux through Disney ahead of time. Not sure if you plan to visit any churches on shore excursions, but knees and shoulders have to be covered on men and women if you plan to enter any of the cathederals. We find that we need two outfits per day,one for sweaty touring and then something fresh to wear to dinner. There are coin op laundries on board. I always overpack, though.

Still haven't decided on a post cruise stay. If we do, it will be a couple of nights through Disney, I agree with Bode, it's easier to just let them handle it. I have a feeling that staying in downtown London is like staying in Manhattan. If it's affordable, you probably don't want to stay there. Dover is a ways from the London airports, a couple of hours I think.

So I take it this means you've booked? Yay! :cheer2:

KT27
03-16-2010, 01:15 AM
Still haven't officially booked. We have a reservation on hold till the 21st and hopefully will have an answer in the next day or so. We are also dealing with my stepdaughter's Mom. They live in Alaska and my stepdaughter is coming for the summer so working those logistics on top of last minute cruise planning makes for lots of fun.

This will be our 4th cruise (DD's 2nd). We have done two four night cruises on the Wonder including a NYE Cruise and two seven night Western Caribbean on the Magic.

My stepdaughter suffers from serious food allergies (wheat, tree nuts, peanuts, soy & certain forms of corn) and we have been nervous to do more then a few day trips while living here in Europe. We have taken her to Austria, Disneyland Paris, all over Germany. We really wanted to do the Canary Islands this summer but we worry about food options. Disney does a wonderful job in catering to her needs. Partner that with the amazing repositioning cruise & military rates and we are all for it!

The plan so far is to fly into Barcelona on June 3rd and stay here: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/bcnbr-renaissance-barcelona-airport-hotel/ The hotel is located 4 min from the airport and runs about 90 euro a night. Most of the hotels Disney offers requires 2 rooms since we are 3 people. The morning of the cruise we will catch a taxi to the port which from what I understand is about 15km away.

I have decided to use the Dover to Heathrow transfer by Disney (can't match the price anywhere) but since we are not flying out until early Sunday we will catch a taxi to one of the airport hotels. Looking at The Holiday Inn. We plan to do London on another trip at a later date so I don't feel as though we are missing anything by doing this.

Sounds like a great plan to me. How was New Year's Eve? It is my plan to rebook onboard for 5 Night New Year's Eve 2011 on the Dream. We did Christmas 2008 on the Wonder, which was special but difficult because I spent most of my free time being Santa, shopping, wrapping presents, etc., so fun, but not terribly relaxing. This time we'll avoid Christmas alltogether. Maybe fly in on December 26 for a few days at WDW beforehand. Oooh, maybe I should price a back to back. As my husband says, I need to plan the cruise I'm about to go on, not the one two years from now.

We are staying downtown in Barcelona. We booked on our own. Not cheap, but walking distance from pretty much everything we want to do, so we'll save on taxis. My kidds are little, so we can't be in two rooms yet.

Fingers crossed that your leave goes through!

Question on insurance does everyone use Disney's? Or have you used another company? I usually use USAA but am unsure with this cruise.

adrianna_sarah
03-18-2010, 04:51 PM
I take back what I said about letting Disney work the post cruise details for Dover. The only way they were able to put all four of us in the same room was to book us at the Renaissance for $600+ per night. I told my TA that the Park Plaza Westminster (also a DCL hotel) was able to accomodate all four of us at less than half the price when I attempted to book online. I was told that DCL pre-booked all of their rooms in advance and the Renaissance was my only option. We need to be in a DCL hotel to book Dover shore excursions. So... I booked the Park Plaza Westminster on my own and the Shore Excursion Desk was more than happy to set up my shore excursion, even though the DCL phone operator that I had originally spoke to had told me that this would be impossible. So K8T, I have a question. We will be on our own arranging a taxi from downtown to Heathrow the morning of our flight back to the US. Do you think that I should arrange a car service ahead of time or just flag a cab on our departure morning. Any idea how much this might cost?

KT27 We have used USAA in the past because they have a specific "leave revocation clause", but I'm paid in full, and sort of forgot about the insurance, so I may be out of luck this time. Am thinking I have to buy travel insurance before paid in full....

K8T
03-18-2010, 05:07 PM
Hi

We cruise lots and will always do our 'own thing' by way of hotels and often excursions too, so good on you for booking the Westminster on your own. I have never known any cruise line to not let you book shore excursions, even though you don't stay in their hotels.

I would suggest that you get a black cab across London from your hotel, the doorman will flag one for you, to Paddington Station and then get the Heathrow Express direct to Heathrow Airport and your Terminal. A cab across town will be no more than £20 for all you and take 10 minutes or so, depending on time/traffic.

The Heathrow Express is so easy, clean and fast, you will be there in 15 minutes, a cab would be very expensive and take well over an hour in traffic.

http://www.heathrowexpress.com/Home

Don't be worried about using the Underground In London, although it is fairly complicated when you look at it, it is easy to use. Get an Oyster Card, which will save you money and you can use this on buses too. However, it is impossible to use with many bags, as has lots of steps and very busy.

This is a useful site, to find out approximate costs if you do take cabs.

So happy for you! That is excellent news!

K8T-

We'll be travelling with big bags and small children for a 9:30 AM flight, so I think I'd feel safer getting a ride all the way to the airport even if it costs more. I'm thinking this is something I can have the hotel concierge arrange once we arrive. Would you agree? Or do you think I need to arrange something in advance?

K8T

Hi

I see your problem!! You will need to be there a couple of hours beforehand, so looks like a very early start for you.

I would get the hotel to book you a private hire car, that will take you all, don't get a black cab, you should be able to agree the price beforehand. A people carrier would be ideal, you will be leaving around sixish, so the traffic won't be a problem then. If the hotel book it for you, you have some comeback on them if there are any problems and they probably have companies they use anyway.

Have you thought about staying at a Heathrow Hotel the night before? It is much easier and they have courtesy buses from hotels to the terminals.

I appreciate you will still have to get from central London, but it really isn't difficult from Paddington and if you aren't rushing for a flight early in the morning, it isn't stressful.

Kate,

One more quick question. We could leave a few hours later if we fly out of London City Airport to Amsterdam and then Amsterdam back to the US. Is London City airport any more accessible from downtown and would there be any drawbacks from using this airport. We've never heard of it. Thanks for all of your help.

Hi

London City Airport is a very small ariport, mainly used for business, It is situated in Canary Wharf, which is much nearer than Heathrow.

The Docklands Light Railway goes direct to it and you could get a cab to Bank Station and pick it up there, a cab would be a few pounds from Westminster to Bank, not sure how much straight to City Airport, but easier and cheaper than Heathrow!

However, personally, if my flight was direct from Heathrow, I would go with that, nothing worse than changing after a few hours, but I suppose in the States you are used to hopping on and off planes?!!!

At least with City Airport, you may not have to be up at the crack of dawn, their check in time is likely to be shorter too.

Difficult choice, but having thought about it for a bit, think I may prefer City, smaller, easier to navigate, may have delays, depending of carrier, but easier to get to. Have you got enough time before your other flight leaves?

Jgura, welcome, I have only just joined this thread too!

Hi All,
Are any of you bringing "fish extenders" on the relocation cruise? I have never preplanned exchanging the goodies, but would like to. Fish extenders are fabric mail pockets you hang outside of your cabin door for mail and small surprises from fellow cruisers. I purchased mine from ebay. I am also new to disboard, please direct me to the correct place to get involved in the June 5 Barcelona to Dover cruise (if I'm in the wrong place)

KATE: Any suggestions on private car hire from Dover to London? We want to sight see the main attractions on our way back to London. I could not find a tour going from the port into London. With kids and luggage it looks like a private driver is our best option. We are traveling with our 7 year old twin daughters, please let me know if you need any information. This will be our 6th Disney cruise. I am also in the travel industry, but clueless on Europe travel.

Looks like Texas will be well represented! (I am from Arlington...home of the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys)

As for Fish Extenders, I am game. We have had a lot of fun doing that on my last two cruises.

Fish Extenders!!!!! Yeah!!!

I have read about these and always wanted to do some.

Haven't a clue really how they work, I am presuming we just bring little bits along with us and each day leave a little something in our groups extenders? I was going to do this form my daughter, wouldn't tell her they were from us, but that Mickey (her hero!), had left the things.

Let me know if I have the right idea or not!

Jgura, The road from Dover to London is a fairly boring one, not much to see on the way, everything is in London itself.

There is a good train link to the City, a private car may be expensive, but easier. I wouldn't have a clue how much it would cost though. Are you flying straight out of London? If so a car would be the only way to do it, as they could give you a tour around the main sites, having said that, London gets extremely jammed up, the HopOn HopOff bus is better, because it casn go along bus lanes and jump the traffic.

You would need to book a London company to come down and pick you up, as their drivers know their way around London, a Dover company would probably not have a clue of the best way around. Some hotels may do a 'day stop' room, whereby you can dump your bags, freshen up and go out and have a look around, before picking up you stuff again.

Bear in mind that it will take around two hours, maybe slightly less to get from Dover to London, it is only 70 miles or so and we can drive at 70mph plus on the motorway (legally 70, but everyone does at least 80!!), but the traffic into London is very slow and congested, which is why the train is a good bet.

You could then get into a black cab and ask them to take you around the sites. Cabbies are usually very trustworthy and would be more than happy to show you around, however the meter would be ticking, so you could pre arrange a company to pick you up at the train station, if you get the times of the trains.

Hope this helps.

Hello, From Dover to London I was wanting to see Leed's Castle & Canterbury. The Disney options seem expensive and on one excursion they take you back to London then back out to sight see the castle and cathedral. Does that geographically make sense? Good to know on the traffic.

I believe on the Fish extenders, a family has one day they pass out goodies with a note or label so you know who it is from. I also bring my own things for my kids to find in their pouch. We have never exchanged, however on our last cruise someone dropped a cute baggie of things in our extender. They had their family name and a message printed on an address label.

Texans here, too. At least as long as the Army has a say in the matter!

We have done FEs on a previous cruise, it was a lot of work!

Still working on booking plane tickets, some sort of internet craziness got in my way this afternoon. We are adding Canterbury/Leeds to London provided hubby's leave extention is approved.

Fish Extenders can be a bit of work, but with as small as our group here is looking it will probably be easier than you think. My first time we had a small group and it was pretty easy and we were able to do some "nicer" items for everyone. My last cruise had A LOT of DISers and it was a bit of walking! But I love seeing everyones door, etc.

I usually try to bring a few little, easy to pack, things from my home town to exchange (plus usually some other little goodies too!). It was really fun when we all brought little things from our home towns to share. And it is always fun to arrive back at your cabin and find that someone has left a little surprise. I have had people make themed CDs, Christmas Ornaments, Magnets, candy, pirate stuff (for Pirate night...speaking of which...do we get that on a European sailing??), games and activities for kids, YOU NAME IT! There is no right or wrong way to do it...we can make it what we want it to be.

If you want someone to organize...I can probably do that too. (famous last words!)

I am in room with Yensid1222 and another DF. Fish Extenders will be great, I will get the one I made for Yensid's last cruise and rework it for us.

I have been to Leeds and Cantebury and they are worth it. I took a tour out of London and it doesn't seem like it was very long a trip on tour bus. I looked to do it again but train ride from Dover is not good to Cantebury and then Leeds

Hi there

It would make sense from Dover, to do Canterbury and then Maidstone (Leeds Castle), on the way to London, it seems a bit daft to go into London and then back out again. A good private hire company would be able to take you to both and then on into London.

Please note that Leeds Castle is NOT in Leeds! Leeds is actually in the North of England - not too far from me actually. Leeds Castle is down in the South East, not far from Maidstone, which is just outside London.

Have a look at Google Maps, put Dover, Canterbury and Maidstone for destinations, I tried to link but it didn't work!.

Canterbury is a very old town - Chaucer and all that, Leeds Castle is just beautiful, both worth doing if you have the time.

I am not sure about the trains though, unfortunately in the UK, we are not known for our good rail service, there are always delays. I wouldn't fancy doing it with trains, unlike the rest of Europe, which put our networks to shame! I once travelled (in my youth), all over Europe, including Eastern Europe by train and not once was a train delayed, or late in two months.

I arrived back in London and my connection home was cancelled:rolleyes:

OK...If you want to participate in the Fish Extender please PM me with your stateroom number (if you know it) and the information as to who is in your room...ages of kids often helps as well to find some neat things. I will get a the list compiled and keep it updated as we move along closer to departure!

Also, do we want some cool name for our cruise? Relocation Cruise is pretty plain...

Me, too. We have never been upgraded on the DCL. We are Cat. 5 but there are ton of Cat. 4 mid-ships left, so we're hoping for a bump. I am guessing it is unlikely with our military rate, though.

On another note, we finally have our plane tickets. Apparently somehow my ticket charge was doubled so all charges were rejected and our card shut down for suspected fraud. Once we bought the tickets, we were still sent and email from our card company making sure that it was really us who made the purchase. I guess they considered the purchase to be outside of our normal buying pattern. Everything's back to normal now.

A point that most all of you seasoned travelers will already know. Call your credit card company and let them know you are leaving the country. This would have been a hassle to deal with overseas. The fraud detections seem to go off about most any spending irregularity.

Good point about the credit cards!

We have booked our flights, with a budget carrier - not sure it is a good idea, but cheap!!!! Not yet got a hotel in Barcelona, we intend going on the Thursday and staying a couple of days pre cruise. Anyone already booked something? Any ideas?

I also had a thought, when reading a thread about recharging phones etc. Europe have round three pin sockets - not sure about the Ship, they are probably two pin. The UK, for those staying over in London, are rectangle three pin!!! Although we are in Europe, we do like to be a little different, along with £s not Euros!!!!.

We are at the Grand Central Hotel. Our first choice was the Duquesa de Cardona, but they didn't have suites available for the whole of our stay. Our kids are young, so we needed a suite or at least a room that slept 4. I used the Travel for Kids website as it breaks hotels down by location and the maximum number the rooms sleep, with a brief description of each hotel. The TFK website links to a European travel site, but I found specials at both hotels by contacting them directly.

Thanks for that link, I had a look, although they were either extremely expensive, or no availlability.

Have just booked the new Novotel. Opens this weekend, so hoping it will still be nice and new and the staff will have had time to settle in!!

Superior Room, including breakfast for all of us 228 Euros for 2 nights. Have an outdoor pool and offer kids free breakfast (they don't realise how much she eats at breakfast!!). Located 2km from La Sagrada Cathedral. so reasonably central, but too far to walk to La Rambla, which is a shame, although the metro and buses are very good in Barcelona.

They are currently offering a second interconnecting family room at a reduced rate, for anyone with a larger group.

We were fortunate to be on the first cruise fish extenders were given out as a sailaway gift for disers. Since then I made a unique fish extender with our cabin number on it (we always try to get the same cabin) and bring it every cruise. It makes the room easy to spot from down the passageway. Gifts can be as small as pencils, small magnets, a piece of candy, etc.. Everyone loves to check thier fish extender and find a treasure. Count us in. Alex

Hi All,
..............

Jill pirate:

Sorry I missed this!!! I don't really know of any to be honest, most Taxi companies will be happy to take you, but it would obviously be better to agree a rate and you would need some sort of people carrier to accommodate your luggage and four people.

I did find this one Private Hire (http://www.speedyconnectionstravelservices.com/index.phphttp://) However, it is not on personal recommendation, so I can't vouch for them. It may be worth making contact.

I would really love to join in the FE because I know my children will love it, but I do have some questions/reservations so hopefully you won't mind me asking...
Cabin Numbers: At the moment i'm GTY but I presume nearer the time i'll get a no. that I can submit BUT what happens if we then change at port ie Upgrade? Or if anybody else taking part changes no. how will find out?

Cost: I am trying to do this cruise on a serious budget, I know I can get some inexpensive gifts for children but tbh it's the adults i'm worried about. I am not remotely crafty and have not a lot of time! Any suggestions?

FE: Where would I get a FE? Any tips on how to make one (again, I am not at all crafty!)

It sounds like i'm talking myself out of it doesn't it?! I'm not...I think it's a wonderful thing to do, excuse my newby questions!

Thanks :)

No need to have any reservations! I remember the first time we did one and I really had no idea how it was going to work...but it is just what we make it. I will really be thinking about my adult gifts as well this time because it is a bit more difficult to get them over the Atlantic...through Paris...down to Barcelona...on the ship... ANYWAY, Small inexpensive (or free) things are just perfect. On my last cruise, one group burned a CD of carribbean songs so you could feel like you were back on the cruise at any time. That really didn't involve much cost as they just put it together at home with blank CDs. A thing that we did on my first cruise that I just loved was that we all brought a post card from our home towns. It was really cheap and at the end you got a neat post card from parts all over the world. I have done pirate themed stuff from a party store for kids on pirate night...all very cheap. So, don't sweat it!

As for making a FE...well, there are some people who actually make them and sell them on eBay. My first one was a Christmas card holder from disneyshopping.com (it was a December cruise and so was perfectly themed). My mother got the creative juices going for the last cruise and made one from scratch from stuff at a craft store. You can find some pictures online as to what they look like.

As for room numbers....I will get you covered! Here is my thought...I will get the list going here with all the information that we have (thank you to those who have started letting me know the info!) up to sailing. I am leaving for Europe the weekend before and don't know how much internet access I will have so I will make a spreadsheet and have copies ready. Let's set up a quick meet on departure date (it really only has to be one person per party) and if we have cabin updates we can write them down at that time. That will also give everyone a simple sheet with all of the cabin numbers to go to.

Whatcha think???

OK- I guess I better get some real work done now! I will get the list started today!

-Scott

At least you have an idea, I have been racking my brains to come up with something - I was thinking what I associate with Spain and then England sort of from ..... to .... but my brain is stuck there!!!

Idofwdw, I understand totally where you are coming from, I haven't done this before either, we are using a budget carrier from England to Spain, so have to be really careful about what we bring. I would be happy to just do little things for the children, neither dp or me would expect anything. Is it just once a day you deliver?

I am not crafty either, I was going to see what I could do with some fabric and some strong glue!!! If all else fails, I did think about getting a little drawstring Disney bag to hang up, my dd had one that she made with glitter and sparkles, she would be thrilled to use that!!

There are some threads on the boards about the sort of gifts, little bags of sweets, crayons, stickers etc. My dd would be thrilled just to get anything!

We have seen many FE on various cruises. They have been made of cloth, felt, plastic, etc.. The only requirement is that it has pockets, a string to hang it on the fish and helps not to be too wide so it doesn't stick out in the passageway. They are decorated with glued on pictures, colored with crayons, needle point, or just plain. So have family names on each pocket. The keys is they are all different, and they all work.

FE gifts do not have to be expensive. One cruise we made a "cruise survival pack" with paper clips, rubber bands, band-aids, zip locks, clothes pins and similar stuff. We have done small magnets with pictures that have something about the cruise or DCL. Magnet printer paper with 12 or 18 magnets per page are not too expensive and are easy to pack. Just use your imagination. Any FE gifts are greatly appreciated. Don't worry, it's just funn to participate.

Most disers have a sailaway meet on deck 9 or 10 midship to meet and get cabin updates. It all seems to work out. Alex

Hi All,

On past cruises we've volunteered to host the FE list on our cabin door for the first day or two so that folks changing cabins can note the change and others can stop by and update their lists.

It works out well especially for those that may not be able to make a pre-departure meet.

We have been on a couple or so, of first cruise iteneraries and noted the communities do commerate the arrivals in grand fashion, fireboats, bands, local cultural representative, and fireworks, the local folks come out to see the Mickey Boat. Hence we do enjoy being on these first cruises. :thumbsup2

Man this one is getting close,

I wish the ferry from Gibralter to Africa was running, anyone found anything as such.

There is a ferry, goes twice a week I believe, however, I wouldn't attempt it in one day!

Tangier (where the ferry docks), is not the easiest place in the world to navigate, the risks of cancellation of the ferry back, even if they do have one on the same day, is immense!

http://www.frs.es/ is the ferry company that does the trip.

You are a braver man than I!!

Good morning from Austin. Finally booked air. Posting today to get up to 10 so I can PM our room info. We'll be traveling with twice the charm of 7 year old princesses. We usually change rooms at port to upgrade our cabin. I noticed someone mention tux rental. I have noticed at the early seating the formal attire is more coat & tie. See you all soon.

When the Magic arrived in LA for the first time a few years ago, there was no hoopla. But when the first cruise left from LA it was like a parade of boats and planes with all kinds if hoopla.

When the Magic first sailed into Barcelona, the evening before we docked, Barcelona had some of the best fireworks we have ever seen. Lets hope for sailing in fireworks! Alex

this is for idream ofwdw...Hi we are in leeds we have arranged an alamo/national car one way rental between dover and leeds bradford airport ( it being the only place open on a sunday) for just over £100 for a golf size car,, if that helps.. I searched all over and it was the best deal I could get, If you keep the car until Monday it nearly doubles in price as it is classed as another day:confused3

DLP is great! If you have any questions, let me know and I'll try to help, if I can. I haven't been back in a few years, but I really enjoyed my past trips :goodvibes

Is it possible for me to join the FE? I don't have a stateroom number yet, unfortunately.

Smiling Mouse welcome! I was late joining this one to. We went to dlp last year and were disappointed especially after our experience in wdw. Be interesting to know what changes you see after all this time. Don't get me wrong the parades and rides were great is was the 'welcoming' feel of the cm's that was so different. But then everyone in the states is so welcoming!

Chris any chance you can let me know the price of your Dover to London trip. Pm me if you would rather. Only we have a travel company - cars and coaches so it would be intersting to see if worth doing as we are on the north west so have to take onto account positioning. Just a thought! Could be another market to tap into on these hard times! Thanks

I see the may 15th cruise have their cabins allocated, not long now!!

Thanks for the FE list and all your work.

Another thumbs up for DLP, we haev enjoyed our visits there.

We will be in Normady before heading to BCN, and London before that.

I was a CM at WDW from 1995-2001. Did Attractions: Steam Train, Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Test Track (T&A Team) and Universe of Energy; Merchandise: Splash Photo, Emporium, Mouse Gear and Contemporary.

I have been wanting to do Cinemagique since I first heard about the concept at the announcement of that park. It will be really interesting to see all of the change that happened in that area since 1999. I was looking at Google Earth and cannot believe all the growth. When I lived at the CM Housing (La Boiserie) it was out in the middle of beet fields...now it has houses all around it. Weird.

Good Saturday morning. I should be writing a paper, but can't help myself from doing a little vacation dreaming. Giving thought to my onboard booking. I think it will be either the 2011 New Year's Eve Double Dip on the Dream or the Alaskan Wonder cruise over the 4th of July 2011. Trying to predict what the Army will be doing with us in the next few years. Anybody know what the current OBCs are?

I think DCL is tiering them now based on your Castaway Club status. I think the base OBC for 3-6 nights is $100 and $200 for 7-10 night cruises. If you are Gold or Plat. with CC, then you will get more...I think. I'm Gold, so I got $150 for the 4 day I booked on the Dream for next year. Hope that helps! Good luck with the paper :)

62 days!

Is anyone flying out of London on Saturday? I just found better airfare leaving Saturday evening rather than Sunday morning. We already had purchased the Disney transfer from Dover to Heathrow. We were just going to stay at an onsite airport hotel till the next morning. We might as well save the $ where we can and fly out on Saturday.

Interesting that you should mention this. Yesterday I was playing with the DCL system, seeing how full our cruise is. For the first time, I saw Cat 3 and 2 rooms available to book on the internet and there were a lot of them left for this cruise. So you may just get that upgrade after all.

My best upgrade ever: Once upon a time, we booked a 1 bdr. Value Villa at the AKV. Somehow, WDW bungled the reservation and gave away our room, so they moved us to one of the 2 bedroom suites in the AKL where we had 3 balconies and two savannas at our viewing disposal. :wizard: I'm thinking I've maxed out on my pixie dusting upgrades.

Wow, things like that don't happen to me, how wonderful. We are thinking about going over to WDW in August, but previously stayed at Beach Club, loving the proximity to Epcot, although dd is obsessed with animals, particularly Lions, so wonder if AK would be better?

We got an offer on DCL, because of being in the travel industry, so I think we are likely to be the last to be upgraded - still you can live in hope! Would be great to think that some of our cruise meet friends get upgraded, when do they let you know?

Hey there Kate.

You just never know, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to upgrades. I cannot say enough good things about the Animal Kingdom, but am only willing to pay the price to stay there in the off season and under deep discounts.

There is a military resort, leased from WDW by the Department of Defense which used to be a WDW resort right down the road from the Poly that is quite gorgeous and very reasonable in price, so we stay there often as well. Okay, another great story: Christmas 2008 we stayed there for four nights prior to our Wonder Cruise. The day before we were set to check out, we received a card from an unnamed veteran who had paid our entire hotel bill. We had booked a package with breakfast, and everything including the deposit that we had prepaid to book in the first place was taken care of. So again, my excellent Disney mojo is bound to have run out and I will be quite happy with what I've booked (but would accept any upgrade the DCL feels like handing out)! :)

That's amazing.

Why would someone do that? What a kind thing to do. Do you think they had seen you at the hotel?, or was it just off chance that it was you.

We are happy enough to be in an inside, although last time we have a huge porthole. However, deep inside I am just hoping that maybe we will get an upgrade, I just don't want to expect it, as I will then be disappointed!!!

I actually got a few bits for the FE's yesterday, do we do them everyday, just one day or ????

I haven't any ideas for adults, but loads for the children, although there don't seem to be many in our group.

Well, and upgrade would be amazing...but I also got a great Interline (Travel Industry) rate and do not expect that! However, I am in the same cabin I had last year on an Eastern Caribbean and I loved the location. Plus, it will seem like coming home!

As for FE gifts, you can do however you feel the most comfortable. Doing something everyday might be a bit much, though. Some people may do things a few different nights, some may just do one pass...the most important thing is not to kill yourself trying to do it as this is supposed to be FUN!!!

Kate - What YenSid said! Some folks do give small things a couple of times, most will have just one gift - folks will pick different days to deliver them, although days at sea are the most common. Definately - it is to have fun, so whatever works for you!

Congrats on all the upgrades! We have only upgraded at the port once - for the transatlantic - as it was very affordable, but as we book on points, we never expect a free upgrade. This time we booked a cat 10 - but we have a great room, and the same room for the B2B cruises, so I do not think we would take the upgrade if they offered it. I would hate to have to move between cruises.

Have a great week all!

Easy Jet will be one of the cheapest, but be aware that you have to pay for every piece of baggage. It soon mounts up.

They are also not the most reliable of airlines, so it is wise to ensure there is one flight after the one you have booked, just for insurance!!!

Hi Everyone! All of the FEs I've participated in have been a bit different. Sometimes, peple do FEs foe each person in a stateroom, someimes they just do 1--a lot of times it depends on the size of the group.

Regarding upgrades, they are completely random. I've only been lucky enough to receive one--from a cat 11 to an 8 on my last cruise

They are also not the most reliable of airlines, so it is wise to ensure there is one flight after the one you have booked, just for insurance!!!

Kate

There is also an overnight train from Paris to Barcelona. It's a 11-ish hour trip, but it should be relaxing. Based on the prices I saw, it was also cheaper than flying and getting a hotel in Barcelona. I've not taken the train much in Europe, so it will be a new adventure.....

I have done the train before (and we are seriously considering it again). I think it will be better this time since I will get a private room. The first time I did the train I was a single in a room of four and was VERY uncomfortable. Also, the train goes S-L-O-W. Nothing at all like the feel of a TGV or anything. We actually stopped for a full hour in the middle of the night before continuing on.

Hi, we are on the cruise before you (May 26th Med). Would love to do this one too if we didn't already have our air booked. Anyway, we are traveling by overnight train from Paris to Barcelona arriving the morning we set sail and have also booked private cabins (2) since there are 4 of us. We splurged on grand class since they have bathrooms and showers plus dinner and breakfast included. I found a site that shows you how to book on the French site for alot less than the RailEurope US site. http://www.seat61.com/France-trains.htm#How to use voyages-sncf.com
Hope that helps. Its in french but the "how to" was very helpful! PM me if you have any questions! :goodvibes

Thanks for the heads-up. I decided that the train option works best for me Nothbecause it was chepaer than flying, and because I really don't like to fly. This may be a stupid question, but how/where do you store your luggage? Do they have compartments? Do you take it with you?

TIA!

Just got our flight info from Disney. Very pleased! We fly from Charlotte to Philly and then from Philly to Barcelona. We arrive in Barcelona Saturday June 5 at 8:35am. Should we hire a private guide to check out the city before going to the port? Suggestions are welcome.

We also are lucky because after docking in Dover we are spending the night in London. We get to spend the afternoon hanging out in London. Our flight back doesn't leave until 4:30pm on Sunday so we also get to spend Sunday morning checking out London as well.

Now, all I need is to heal quickly. I had a moto accident last saturday and am a bit beat up but no worse for wear...

We look forward to meeting all on board!

I'm pleased to report that my train ticket arrived yesterday :) I'll be leaving Paris at around 830 PM on June 4th and getting to Barcelona about 12 hours later. I'm booked with DH Daniel and DD Gabrielle (Gaby 9) for this one. She is SO looking forward to this cruise. And If I'm honest< I'm getting quite excited about it to.
We live on the south coast of England in lovely East Sussex. So we'll be flying for London Gatwick to Barcelona on Easy Jet (Boo!) and transferring to the ship the same day. On the return we will take a train from Dover Priory to Brighton.
I'm a bit worried about the luggage allowance on Easy Jet. I've never flown a budget airline before, mainly because they are so stingy on the allowance. And I am not know to pack light! So that should be an interesting experience.
So far we are booked in a guaranteed Cat 12 cabin. I would love an upgrade but it wouldn't matter if we didn't get one. This trip really is about spending some family time together. We've had a stressful 12 months and we need a break.
I'm definitely up for this Fish Extender club. No idea what i'm going to do as I haven't a creative bone in my body. Hubby has though, so he may think of something.
Look forward to meeting you all.:hippie:

Hi and welcome. Seems like a lot of people have booked Cat. 12 and since there are so few actual Cat 12 rooms, you probably have an good chance of being upgraded. While the porthole and inside rooms have been down to GTY for awhile, there are tons of balcony rooms left.

Are they marketing this cruise heavily in the UK?

I'm Adrianna, married to Scott. We have two kids, Aidan 7 and Lucy 3. We're flying in from Texas. I'm a grad student in the last three weeks of the sememster so I usually peek on Saturday mornings, but will be here more often once school gets out.

Hi Adrianna

There was a lot of marketing for the Kids Sail Free cruises. They occur in the UK school summer holidays. Financially they didn't work out for us. The prices were something like £1400 per adult and kids under 17 sail free. Whereas, the June cruise we're booked on was £2397 for the three of us. so we saved around £400. The only bad thing about it is , it is the week when the kids should be returning back to school after half term. But hey, I've never taken DD out of school before, so once for something like this is worth it.

I belive I'm somewhat older than you;) I'm 41 and hubby will be 43 when we sail. But we do know how to partay!!:hippie:

Not much. We're 36... I always feel somewhat ridiculous when saying that I'm studying for mid-terms or finals. Especially since I have high school friends who have kids graduating from high school this year. I am desperate need of a partay!

I quite agree that it's okay to pull kids out of school once in a while. A couple of years ago, we pulled our son out for two weeks for a big trip. His school was very supportive and thought that the value of an international experience was worth it.

I suppose that they levy those heavy European taxes on you all as well? I am just learning about VAT. Here in Texas the tax rate is around 9 percent, and people gripe about that being high!

Hi

Glad you made it over here from CC!

We are GTY 12, so someone is going to get upgraded! Probably not us, as we are on an 'offer' for people who work in travel. I notice that Iglu are advertising this cruise for £649 per person for GTY 12, including flights. I am not sure about the child fare.

We are lucky in that our daughter doesn't go back to school until the 14th June, so we don't miss school. We originally wanted to do the 26th May Med and I had been watching prices for ages, the cheapest being £1,500 for all of us as the Kids Free was on then, but we couldn't do the dates with other halfs work (I was gutted!), although our dd would have missed four days at the end of term. However, we are looking forward to this now.

It will be interesting to hear how you get on with Easy Jet. We were going to do them, but decided on Monarch - supposed to be slightly more reliable. Are you coming in a day beforehand?

Adreianna, there has been a lot of marketing in the UK, particulary if you had done cruises in the past, we got lots of emails and mailouts. Problem is, most of the cruises are not in the school holidays and the ones that are, are terribly expensive. I have been watching the Baltics Cruise in July, I see they have discounted them in the States now, but not over here yet - you never know, we may get a good rate onboard.:)

For anyone doing the train, they are really good in Europe, I went travelling for two months back in the 1990's from one side to the other and not one train was later, or dirty - unlike the UK! The luggage is with you, there are usually areas beind your seat to stow it, or by the doors you get on, but I would keep your bag with you rather than put it on the racks by the doors, unless you are sitting by the doors. You don't usually get smaller carriages anymore.

Bode - Barcelona is really easy to navigate. I would suggest you get yourself a good guidebook and do it yourself. The Hop on Hop off Buses are great and I think there are two routes that take in all the main sights and you can ride all day, getting on and off, they usually come around every 15/30 minutes, they have headphones, so you get a running commentary of what you are seeing along the way. It is not too difficult to walk around either, or to use the Metro as it is a fairly compact city, I don't think you would really need a guide.

The main things to see are Las Rambla, the Gothic area - just off Las Rambla, the Market, again off Las Rambla and La Sagrada Familia Cathedral, which is a bit further away from Las Rambla, but easy on bus or Metro. We have walked it in the past. There are also a few house, designed by Gaudi, which are fantastical. We have been to Barcelona loads of times and just love wandering around it.

As non-Europeans, we are wanting see all that we can while there, so we pretty much have grandaddy tours booked at each port. We are doing the:

Gibraltar Walking Tour
Seeing Seville in Cadiz
Arrabida and Sesimbra w/Castle Tour in Lisbon
Leeds Castle/Canterbury in UK

The Seville/Lisbon tours on back to back days may be a little much for our three year old, but she'll have two days at sea to recover.

It makes sense to me that they would heavily market this in the UK, since it only involves a short one way ticket to Barcelona... sort of the way that they give good deals to Florida residents to ensure that the boats stay full here in the US.

Allright, back to writing... three weeks 'til the end of the semester.

We played the 'match it' game with Virgin and Iglu too, for the 26th May cruise!!! (shame we couldn't do it).

What day are you flying out? We too are going from Manchester with Monarch - It wasn't so early as the Easy Jet one from Liverpool!!!

We haven't booked any tours, we tend to do our own thing, usually getting a taxi when we get there. We have had some great adventures doing this and with a young child, it is easier than waiting for people at 'comfort stops', or photo opportunities. However, we have seen most of the ports before, so we don't have that 'need' to not miss anything. In fact it will be good just to take our time, I am usually a devil for wanting to be up and out and not miss a thing, which my other half finds very tiresome, but to be honest, I am happy to chill on this one for a change. I did think about the boat trip to see the wild Dolphins in Gibralter.

Cadiz is easy to do on your own, unless you want to go further afield, as is Lisbon.

I haven't booked anything at all yet! Most unlike me:rotfl:

Hi only from experience!!

You will need to go into London and out of St Pancreas Station which is in Central London, London has several stations. I expect you have to change in Paris, or Bruxelles.

http://www.seat61.com/Germany.htm#Frankfurt Is one site to give idea of times, but there are many others, so check around for best prices.

If you fly, then go out of Heathrow, which is easy to get to from Paddington Station (also central London). The Heathrow Express, is fantastic and it goes direct from here to the terminals - doable with bags too. Pre book it for best rates.

If you arrive from Dover by train at a different station, probably Victoria, then get a black cab (they are in abundance), it will only cost around £10 to get across the city from most stations, you may need two if you have lots of bags and people.

http://www.worldtaximeter.com/london Is useful it get an idea of prices. Do not try and do the Underground with bags!!!

Just had a thought, that you may be able to get a train through to Paris from Ashford Station (Kent), around 30 mins from Dover on the train. You would need to check the times of trains from Dover and then connections from Ashford. Try www.nationalrail.co.uk. I think Dover station is a cab ride away from the Port, but not sure how far.

Hope this helps.

Hi there

Nothing showing for us on the cabin front - I hardly dare look... but am doing so each day!!:rotfl:

I too bought a few things for FE, although still have to make mine. Bought loads of felt and bits ready, just forming a plan!

No actual ash here, but it is really weird seeing no planes in the sky (we are near Liverpool and Manchester Airports, so usually have four or five very high up) and no vapour trails.

However, otherhalf is on overdrive and worked most of last night (we are in the travel industry), everywhere is chaotic and it is actually very serious for the airlines, particularly financially - planes sat around, crews still needing to be paid, finance still going out. When it all gets going again, it will be a logistical nightmare with planes in wrong places and a backlog of passengers.

Latest news is that no flights until tomorrow now, but then they have been giving times and extending them since it started.

By the time it is sorted, we will be ready for a holiday! Pity the people trying to get away now.:sad2:

I hear you! TransAtlantic flights are some of our most profitable, and as long as they are just sitting on the ground we are losing money. I just looked at some bookings and there are people who cannot get confirmed on a flight until the end of next week...so even if LHR opens up tomorrow, they may be stuck here for quite a bit of time. At least this is happening now and not a month from now when I am trying to get to the ship!!

Good Evening - or Good Afternoon, depending where you are!!!

Well its all going mad here with the Volcano.

There have been some flights out of Scotland and Ireland today, but only a few and now the airports are closed again.

Latest is that the situation will be reviewed at 1pm tomorrow, although it is looking like that time will be knocked on. Ryan Air - which is a budget airline, is staying closed until Monday.

The Volcano, well that is still throwing out Ash and now the cloud has moved into Northern Europe, so Paris Airport has been closed too, along with some others.

Other half came in and gone out again, actually driving to Scotland, to sort some problems out up there!!

Looks like I am on my own this weekend, maybe I will get chance to make my FE!!!

Anyone had any news on their cabins yet?

Wow that was a good price. I saw the original quote on Iglu which was £679 for cruise only. However, I had never heard of Iglu before and couldn't see their Abta and Atol numbers anywhere on the site. So I booked with Virgin. They charged around £710 for each of us including the Easy jet flight. So you definitely got a good deal

Regarding the upgrades on cabin, I read somewhere that they will post upgrades on our reservations 45 days before the cruise. Please don't quote me on that, it's just one of those weird facts I have floating around my head.

Shore excursions:
I've booked on the Gibraltar:- Explore the Rock on Your Own in the morning and in Cadiz :- A Taste of Càdiz & Jerez.

The aquarium at Lisbon is fantastic. We got the bus which was just down the road on the right from the ship. But a taxi wouldn't be too much. However it took best part of a day looking around.

Lisbon is a lovely city with beautiful buildings and very easy to negotiate shuttle buses take you to the main square and you can walk most of it or get the hop on off bus.

In Cadiz there are some long huge sandy beaches with play areas for children and showers. Reminded me of Miami!! There was also a smaller beach in a harbour that was good too and a little nearer the ship.

We did the hop on bus which is near the ship then got off part way to go to the cathedral. Don't miss the vaults underneath the acoustics are amazing. We then walked past the Market where they sell live snails among other things and to the beach for a couple of hours. You will see the different beaches from the bus good shopping in cadiz too particularly shoes!

Why wouldn't a taxi be recommended?

We use them all the time in Europe. In Spain and Portugal they are usually mercedes. As long as It is taxi plated and not just someone touting for business I can't see a problem

We are booked to do the panoramic Gibraltar and afternoon tea, the Jerez de la Fontera horse show in Cadiz and the Sintra Cascais in Lisbon. Since most of these are just half days we will use the other for self exploration in the ports. As a single parent I really like the options that a Disney excursion offers so I know that everything is taken care of.

Less than 50 days! We just ordered our FE and will start doing some shopping for them.

Oh, my! I suppose they are for eating?

Happy Saturday all. Nothing new here, just checking in. It's grey and muggy right now in my little corner of Texas, a good time for a study break. 13 days until the end of the semester then I'll let myself DCL daydream more often.

Amazing picture! We will definitely want to check out the market.

I have been researching for this trip way too much (have now stopped) and read in many places that the drivers in Lisbon were not the most honest. 10 years ago when I was there on a cruise we walked everywhere. So nothing is based on experience.

One way or another we will certainly visit the aquarium, it looks great!

Good Morning Cruisers!

We will probably be doing the ports on our own, we have been to all but Lisbon on the transatlantic cruise a few years ago. The hop-on-hop-off busses sound like the way to go.

Have a great week all!

AMEN to that!

I booked our flights today from Frankfurt to Barcelona & London to Frankfurt for fear of them getting more expensive with all of this chaos. My daughter is flying from Fairbanks, Alaska on May 27th to spend the summer with us and I hope her flight is not affected. I feel for those stranded passengers.

I guess we need to start praying to the Volcano Gods!

So, I don't remember if this was posted or not and I couldn't find details on the DCL site...but, here is some cruise info:

Night 2 - Formal Night
Night 5 - Pirate Nightpirate:
Night 6 - Semi-Formal Night

Also, there are no fireworks on the Northern European cruises. The phone rep seemed to think since we were "going to Northern Europe" that we would also not have fireworks. But night 5 should put us still in the Atlantic just outside of Lisbon...so, who knows? :confused3

On a separate thought, what do the call the Pirate party in Europe? It is "Pirates IN the Caribbean" normally...but obviously we will not be "IN" the Caribbean.

Thanks for the info, I thought for a moment my reservation at Palo's clashed with Pirate night but I've checked and we're booked for Palo's on night 6 - great as we will be dressed up anyway!
We were on the 6/27/2007 med cruise and Pirate night was still called Pirates in the Caribbean (pirate: arrrrr.....those were the days when DCL gave out bandanas - before times got hard:rolleyes1)

Still no cabin number - I have a nervous look each day on DCL website:scared: .....still whats the worst it could be? cat 12? at least I will be on the boat:woohoo:

We got bandanas again last year in May when I did an Eastern. They were not the big ones like before, they were triangle cut instead of square and were MUCH smaller...I could not tie it around my head at all. (Please refrain from the fat head comments...that means you, disneymom7851....Thank You.)

We have nothing either yet. I was wondering if maybe they would hold off allocating rooms as some people may be changing to our date if they can't get a flight. It may also mean less likliehood of an upgrade. :(

Yensid, thankyou for that info on what night is which. Because we booked late most of the palos dinner slots have gone and I didn't want one to clash with Pirate night. I would have loved brunch but they have gone too! I wonder if they ever get cancellations. Does anyone know?

Good news! UK airspace is open, although means I probably won't see my otherhalf for a few days ( good or bad?:rotfl:) he is still at work now and it is 10.30pm in the UK. At least disers may get their cruise.

Glad I could help! As far as getting a reservation....just head straight to Rockin' Bar D when you board and they can usually accomidate your request. I have never had (knock on wood) a problem getting what I needed upon boarding the ship.

I am VERY glad to hear that UK airspace is open!! Now to clear out this backlog and keep it clear....I need a certain DFW to CDG flight to stay open so we can sneak on!!

Hope that nobody has got too caught up in the ash? Lets hope that things will start moving now!

I was just wondering, will we have a deadline date for the fish extender? The reason I ask is I need to order something to put in the gifts and I want to make sure I get enough!

Thanks,Yensid, for posting that info-it makes it seem very real! Need to get organised and find myself a lovely dress for formal night.

A question for all you experienced female cruisers-do people wear heels for dinner or is this looked upon as silly?! I have a pair of quite high heels that are perfectly comfortable on dry land but don't want to a)break my neck or b) look stupid!

Enjoy the rest of your week everyone, lets keep our fingers crossed for room allocations soon!

Hi Susan,

I normally wear high heels in the evenings. I usually take one pair of heels ( I have a favorite pair at the moment - black patent with 3" heels and a high platform as I am fairly short I like the extra height they give me)and try and make sure all my evening outfits match them so my suitcase isnt full of shoes. I even wore them on pirate night with dress up buckles to make them more pirateypirate:

As for the other passengers there is always a mix of heels and flat shoes and you wouldn't look out of place in either. The last cruise we went on was with my DM who was recovering from a hip replacement op - she wore a little pair of black, fancy, flat ballerina type each evening and looked lovely.

So go with what ever you feel happiest with.

:cool1:time to start packing .........lucky I never got round to putting the luggage back in the loft from Xmas:rotfl2:

Hi

I always take 'heels', albeit not very high for the evening, or strappy sandals with heels. Luckily it is only one night dress up, although I still will probably wear heels semi formal. However, with baggage allowance restriction, I may have to compromise!

Things are moving regards our cruise with Disney. We have had a couple of queries at work re. clients requirements and they phoned OH direct yesterday to ask if we need ground transportation. So it looks like they have started to 'look' at this cruise now.

He did ask if we could pay for an upgrade, but they said that with the price we paid, it would be unlikely to be offered, but to ask on the day of sailing. It was worth a try I suppose! So I won't be holding my breath every day now when I log in :(

Thanks for the tip about Palos, I didn't realise that you could try and get a reservation on board. How fantastic would that be!

I forgot to say the DCL said that boarding will be from 10am.

Pack light!!! The weather is going to be fantastic!!!:cool2:

No problem, I know we were confused so I figured a call to DCL was in order. Do I have a problem if Disney Cruise Line phone number programmed into my phone?

As for Fish Extenders, we have not set a deadline at this point. I usually plan an extra few items "just in case" so I am fine with people being added even on the day of departure. Not sure how everyone feels, but we can work it any way we want. I will plan on a place we briefly meet and I will have an excel spreadsheet for everyone so we can make updates. Also, I can leave copies in my FE for anyone that can't meet.

How does everyone feel about that?

Not too worried about gifts, but then again...are we buying just for the kids in the party or adults too?

Welcome aboard. Outside every cabin door is a metal fish which is used by DCL to put messages and notes. Awhile back, one of the diser's (someone who is on the disboard) bought sail-a-way gifts for all the disers on that cruise. The gift was about 8-9" wide and 18-24" long made of cloth and had three pockets with Mickey Mouse on each pocket. She bought them at a clearence store and they had a string on top to hang them. Everyone hung them on the fish outside the cabin door, so they are fish extenders (FE) because they make the fish longer with more pockets. Disers bring little home made items, candy, door magnet they make, etc. and put them in the FE during the cruise usually putting thier name on the items so you know who they are from. People now make thier own FEs out of felt, cloth, plastic, with pictures glued on, embriodery, cross stitch ir whatever they can do. The only real requirement is that it can be hung from the fish and has pockets. The kids (and most big kids) love to come to thier cabin and find things in thier FE. It's just for fun. Alex

Oh, it is very easy to find, actually. From our cabins on deck 7, you just head aft. There will be a set of stairs that go down and if you walk around the stairs, not down, there is a door with hours listed (it is not "open" 24 hours a day). Anyway, open the door and you are there.
