I'll have a day in LA in April and was thinking of going to the WAP. However, I won't have a rental car so was wondering if there's a way to use transit/rail to get there in a reasonable fashion.

Travelling solo so don't want to do the long drive back up to LA by myself, and only want to do this as a daytrip. Will be staying in the Hollywood area.

Any suggestions much appreciated! :goodvibes

cheers,

Unfortunately the WAP is kind of in the middle of nowhere, so while I don't know about private shuttles, you can't get there easily by just using buses or rails. I know you said you're opposed, but the easiest and least expensive way would really be to rent a car for the day.

Seems like it's do-able via public transit, but a hassle:

- Amtrak or Metrolink to Oceanside

- Oceanside to Escondido via Sprinter (http://www.gonctd.com/sprinter_stations.htm)

- Escondido to WAP via San Diego Metropolitan Transit (http://www.sdmts.com/RouteFiles/routes/pdf/386.pdf)

The Oceanside to WAP segment is about 28 miles, so a taxi would be steep. PP's idea of a rental car might be the way to go.

Thx a mint for the replies and info. jlmarr, those details are great. I'll look into its reasonableness and if it's worth renting a car or saving it for a future trip.

Hi Karen,

I agree. It will save you so much time!

Yup, you're all correct! :thumbsup2

I plotted Amtrak > Oceanside > Escondido and it will take 4hrs on a Saturday. Metrolink is even longer. The last section doesn't run on Sundays. Even tho the obstacle really wasn't cost, just in case future posters come upon this thread, the Amtrak fare alone is $22 one-way.

Thx a mint - Dis'ers are such a great bunch! :disrocks:
