Can anyone tell me if leg braces are waterproof? They're plastic velcro straps on them. Since DN has trouble with stairs and wears the braces for walking I wondered if he needed to wear them in the pool too. :confused3

I tried a search and Googleing but came up empty so thanks for being patient with me!

I don't have any info on the braces - they came with DN4 and until I can get custody papers I can't get the one doctor whose number I found after DSIL passed away to give me any information at all. There isn't even a makers mark on the braces so I can go by that. :sad1:

Just thought someone on here had had experience with leg braces and swimming perhaps. :confused3 :)

I'd drop in on a few PT places (with a pool) and see if you can get anyone to offer suggestions after explaining the situation.... They could atleast tell you if the braces in question are waterproof, if nothing else.

My 4 year old wears bilateral AFOs for walking/running, but she does not wear them at the beach or at the pool. I think it has more to do with his needs than whether or not they are waterproof. Hope that helps!

I don't think the braces would be needed in the pool.

If you will be able to help him in and out of the pool, I would take them off and let him enjoy the freedom in the water.

If you don't already know, with your stroller/wheelchair be sure to go by guest realtions at the very first park that you go to and get a sticker and GAC. The sticker is for the chiar and lets the CM's know aht it is a wheelchair and the GAC will have a stamp on it saying the same. Be sure to keep it with you because even though we have the sticker we have been asked for the card may times.

no you can't wear them in the water or at the beach if sand gets in them it will rub the child raw.

I finally took out the stroller wheelchair which turned out not to be what I expected. It's more of a wheel chair than a stroller. It's a Cruiser and it weighs about 50 pounds. It's a very heavy massive thing that won't even fit in the trunk of my car. :sad1: I know he needs it for bus transport, but I'll need something else for WDW or for everyday stuff.

I might rent one for WDW from the list in Sue's siggy and just hold him in my lap for bus transport at WDW. :confused:

I've worn AFOs since I was a baby, and I've never needed them in water. I guess it depends.
