Hi

My daughter is 2 and usually has milk in her cup and a bottle of milk at bedtime. We are staying at the Cheyenne. Will i be able to get milk form the resturant and heat it up somehow??? There is no way she will drink UHT or formula so i can't take anything with me. She is extremely fussy and think she is unlikey to eat much at all while we are there (other than what i take with me, ie fruit pouches, crisps, rasins etc). She loves yogurt as well, is there anywhere that sells this?

I have been wondering about this for some time

Thanks

I'm afraid any of the milk you'll be able to buy in the Cheyenne shop is likely to be UHT since this is pretty common in France. I haven't bought milk at the Cheyenne, but other milk I've bought around DLRP has been UHT and even most of the milk in Auchan the big supermarket at Val D'Europe is UHT.
Hopefully someone else can chip in here and prove me wrong.

Yup.

All we were able to buy was UHT in little cartons sold in packs of 6 I seem to remember.

Our little lass didn't seem to mind!

We tried her on that in spain in september and she wouldn't touch it. Luckily i found the spar shop sold fresh milk and we had a microwave so it wasn't a problem.

So i won't be able to ask for milk in the hotel resturant?

You can get milk in the restaurants. If you have a minibar in your room you could fill up that evenings bottle at breakfast and store it there till bed time.

Thanks for the reply.

We are staying at the Cheyenne so don't think we will have a mini bar. Maybe she will be too tired to care about the bedtime bottle, God knows what she will be like if she wakes up in the night though if she is hungry!

I will just have to make sure she is too exhausted to worry about it or wake up at night. At least i can fill her cup up with milk in the morning

No, there's no minibar in the Cheyenne rooms.

You could try the garage next to the Santa Fe. You might be able to get milk there too. I remember having this problem at some stage before and I think we got away with the little packs of milk but cannot remember clearly!
Best bet would be that garage, I reckon but others might know more!

The garage does sell milk, but I think it's UHT - UHT is the most common type of milk to be drunk in France I believe. In Auchan there's rows and rows of UHT milk and it's hard to find 'normal' milk.

It was the same in the hyper markets in Spain, they only sold UHT. So we bought it but she wouldn't drink it then we found the Spar shop next to the hotel that sold lots of over priced British things sold fresh milk.

Thanks we will try the garage near the Santa Fe if we need to.

My daughter (nearly 11) is the same. She will only drink milk and water and even when we did track down fresh milk (most of the big hypermarkets do it but you have to really search and its usually no where near the whole isle of UHT) she said it tasted funny! We did get round this by adding a tiny bit of chocolate nesquik and after that even UHT would do:rotfl2:

There are a couple of shops inside the eurostar terminal. You could try in one of those...

Is that near the hotel?? As the main problem would be if she hadn't eaten her food she would be hungry at bedtime and want her bottle (which would need to be normal milk). The it would needed to be heated up....

Sounds like a nightmare so i will plan for the worst, i.e no milk and and just hope she is to tired to notice for a few days.

Its not a problem regarding drinking as she drinks orange squash and i will take a bottle, its just to stop her being hungry in the night really. As she can scream very loud!

Thanks for all your replies at least now i know

Long shot but how about taking some milkshake powder and disguising it..? if you make it strong she may not notice...:confused3

I took the growing-up milk you can get in bottles and cartons from home. Its a bit nicer that UHT milk I think. I usually get the Hipp one that is vanilla flavour so it seems like a bit of a milkshake treat.

yes i am going to take some growing up milk and try him on that.. and if all esle fails take some nesquick and disguise it a bit.. as my 2 year old still wakes for a bottle at nighttime sometimes too. i think better to take something, then nothing.. it wont do any harm for a few days. xx

Would a travel kettle & a beaker do the trick for warming the milk? We have a fisher price small flask/beaker combo from mothercare for warming our babys bottle when we r out & about, it saves asking for hot water all the time!

I may have not remembered correctly but I think the HNY and DLH shops both sell bottles of milk from the fridge becuase I remember thinking what a good idea that was (they probably do it as you can have tea and coffee facilities there). I'd check in the DLH shop as th hotel is right at the entrance to the park and it's a lovely place to go in anyway. I think it stays open til around 11pm.
I have hot milk at breakfast and in the DLH it was made from powdered milk and hot water. I couldn't tell the difference although that's not to say others wouldn't be able too.
I agree, adding some milkshake powder may help or, most hotel bars do serve hot chocolate which is more of a creamy milky nesquick which might go down well.
Hope that helps!

The Cheyenne shop sells milk from a fridge, but most French milk is heat-treated and the shop milk is very likely to be. My DS actually prefers it and wishes we could take it home with us!

When are you going? Could you not take some milk with you in a cool bag? throw some ice in from an icemachine each day, if you are only opening it up at night to get the milk out I think it would be fine. Unless of course you are going in the summer. Suggesting the ice as I am not sure if the Cheyenne has fridges.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, a lot of the kinds meals come with yoghurt or some sort of yoguhrty drink. Some of the hotels have yogurts at breakfast too although I'm not sure whether the Cheyenne does or not.

Yes the Cheyenne have big bowls of natural yoghurt to help yourself rather than individual ones.

We stayed at the HNY this past Sept/Oct and we had to buy lots of milk for our daughter who, if allowed, would live on a diet of milk, yogurt and fromage frais :lmao:

The milk in the shop at HNY was definitely not fresh milk, it didn't taste as bad as UHT milk here. I don't think the milk in the restaurants at breakfast is fresh either but I could be wrong. Even the stuff at Cafe Mickey for breakfast didn't taste like our fresh milk, i'm sure it was heat treated. You can also buy cartons of milk in the parks at many of the counter-service restaurants but again, its not fresh :(

We're lucky in that our daugther will drink any kind of milk including soy and rice milk. Have you tried those before? The rice milk especially is a treat for her, she loves it :) Next time we go to DLP i'm bringing along a few cartons of those.

I don't get the milk thing in Europe, my family live in Portugal and fresh milk is so expensive because people just don't drink it and they don't really eat cereal for breakfast either so they only need milk for their latte's and for making sauces and baking custard tarts, yum yum! :goodvibes

Hope you have a fabulous time and you come up with the ideal solution for your child

Is there a fridge or minibar in hny standard room?

mommy2ash

there arent fridges but the minbars are not suitable for milk in any case. they are not cold enough. you would be better off putting ice in the sink if you have to keep milk in the room

all the hotels have ice machines they will be able to tell you where they are located when you check in

even if you got fresh milk you would have a job keeping it fresh as theres no fridge in the rooms

if she does wake up hungry then shell drink anything when she realises she cant have normal milk ;)

the shops at the eurostar station dont sell milk, the best thing to do is get a glass from the restaurant for bed time and then i would pop down and get another before i went to bed incase she woke in the night, it would be room temp by then but fine. it wasnt like our milk but neither of my kids said anything about it. you could try some different milks before you go, i think its soya thats very creamy, might be nice.

The milk tastes different in most countries because of the cows diet and the amount of cream in it. I noticed this a lot in the US. When we were at Disney last we got 6 UHT bottles from a supermarket and DS drank it cold, he didn't seem to mind but I'm sure the garage had fresh milk. We have a wee flask thing that we used for our kids, it's just a small metal flask with a plastic cover that takes a bottle for heating but the issue would be getting hot water I suppose. We got his in Boots or Tesco for about £10 though Argos have one which looks the same kind - try looking for Fisher-Price Bottle Warming Flask. You might be able to get hot water at the bar or the Santa Fe garage,

DS hardly drinks milk now at bed time so we might get away with it but DD likes snack before bedtime - normally a yoghurt/frube or cheese string (or combinations of both). Normally when we go away we stay at timeshare so you have a fridge and she can get her snacks but she's horrified at the prospect of not getting anything before bed despite the buffet at the Cheyenne....
