The town I live in has celebrated National Night Out for about the past 5-6 yrs. It's August 5th or 6th this yr. My town placed 1st in communities with 30,000 and under people last yr. We also recieved Rookie of the Year our first yr. It's become a 3 day event for our town. On Sunday, August 4th, there will be a mass celebrating our police officers, firefighters, etc.. On Monday, August 5th, there is the borough-wide celebration where everyone gets together for free food, music, balloon rides, state police helicopter and robot, child fingerprinting, etc.. On Tuesday, August 6th, are the block parties. There were 22 last yr and the police officers, state representatives and barbershop quartet, visit each one. There is food and music at our block party and we get about 150 people. It's a lot of fun and a chance to get to know our neighbors. If we know each other and look out for each other, we can hopefully keep the crime rate down. Does your town, city, do this?

Yes. We rent out the local pool; hire a DJ (often Radio Disney); lots of door prizes; cops and firemen come; everyone brings food. Last year, the mayor came. It's pretty awkard shaking hands with the mayor when he's in a suit and tie and you're in a swim suit!
