Specific Building Fee?

My daughter and son-in-law registered at ASMusic two days ago and did not get the building they requested. They were told at registration that it costs an additional $10 to be sure that you get your requested building. Has anyone heard of this before?

I haven't heard of $10 fee for a requested building.
But the resorts do have a $10 per night fee for preferred buildings and waterview rooms.

Yep, $10 extra per night for preferred building/water view rooms and a King bed.

At the All-Star Resorts, they charge extra for the Preferred Location ONLY. At moderate resorts, they charge extra for a water view or king bed.

Not exactly. The Calypso building at ASMusic (as well as the closest building at Sports--Surf's Up--and another at Movies) are $10 more expensive per night now.

Even if it were not an extra $10 per night, they might not get the room they requested. Room requests are just that--requests, not guarantees. If everyone got exactly what they wanted, it would be a nightmare for the person assigning rooms.

I'm sorry your relatives didn't get what they wanted. Were they happy with their stay regardless?

I tlaked to them last night and they are having a wonderful time. I don't think they were really complaining and they knew that a building reques was just a request but they had not heard about paying an extra $10 dollars and neither had I so I thought I would ask. And as usual, the great people on these boards had the answer for me. Thanks for all the responses.

I asked this exact question to a disney rep and here's what I got.

If you pay the $10 for a "preferred" room,you get that.If you request 101 Dalmations,you may not get it,that is just a request.You ARE guaranteed a "preferred" room if you pay the additional $10.
