I embarked on my new year's resolution today. My goal in 2010 is to be more creative and that means getting back to my writing roots. My goal, lo these 35 years ago was to have been a writer.

I have decided to earnestly write a blog. I decided I that I wanted it on my own domain, and have taken a step towards that.

Today I started training myself on the software.

The goal? To begin by March 1.

The countdown is on.

For the general theme of the blog I have decided to focus on doing what I do best, criticizing the universe.

Reporting in!

Ian, Dianne has a similar goal for this year (book, not blog though). Plus I keep nagging her to finish her play.

My resolution for this year is: Apply what I know!

Most of us know what works for us in all areas of our lives, we just often ignore that knowledge. :lmao:I know healthier ways to eat and behave, I know that having a pleasent home environment (decluttered and repaired) improves my mood, I know a certain mind-set makes living with my company and co-workers less stressful. I know MUSIC makes me feel better (why in heaven's name do I often sit in this house in silence?????). Hence...Apply What I Know!

Hi Everyone!

Decided to just post on the new thread today after reading all the stuff I missed over the weekend. We ended up going up to Prince George for Saturday and watched the first 2 games of the new professional indoor soccer team. We took the kids and my mom to the afternoon game. Then Ken & I went alone to the evening game. Spent the night at mom's and got home about 1pm. Finally took down the Christmas decorations and got them all packed up, just have to actually dismantle the tree tonight after the kids are done soccer:thumbsup2
Ken's got dinner planned out and will give the slow cooker a try.:goodvibes

Marilyn - your son's virtual classroom idea sounds like it was a huge success! :thumbsup2

Deborah - Poor Keith. I hope he doesn't have more problems with those bullies:grouphug:

Ian - congrats to Sukie for his new associate editor gig, and have fun getting a new camera! :woohoo:

Nan - what a drastic change for you, but its great that you and Paul are a real team ::yes::

Kathe - I wish we had the cold weather back! I don't like this warm rain when there's all the snow cause everything is turning to ice.

Karen - hope you feel better soon, and spill the details about the ski chalet from hell

Deb - thanks for sharing pictures and stay warm. Listen to Michelle and buy a new sweatshirt. In fact get a new t-shirt too, you need layers for that weather :thumbsup2

Holly - see you in the new thread soon :godvibes

Now my morning coffee break is over and I must get back to work :sad2:

Hello Thieves!! Happy New Year to all! Thanks everyone for the Christmas cards...it's so nice to hear from everyone. I hope you enjoyed mine and were able to get the little box put together. I have a couple of them hanging on my Xmas palm tree, right in the front where I can look at them and remember all our fun times, not only on the WBPC, but since then. I'm so grateful for all of you!!!

I had an interesting Christmas. This year I spent it in Laguna Beach with my sister Tricia, her husband, Dylan (the nephew I always talk about), her husband and their 2 dogs. We stayed at the Montage resort, a very lovely place, and I was happy to find that it felt like Xmas, even though for the first time in my life I wasn't in the home of a family member on Xmas day. After the holiday, I drove to northern CA to visit my cousins and a friend. Along the way I got to also have lunch with Nana! I was gone almost 2 weeks.

In about 10 days I'll be meeting up with Jackie and Monica for a week on the Magic! Can't believe I'm already going back.

For now, I'm happy to be home and enjoying my time to piddle around the house and connect with my friends on FB. I'd better sign off now; I have to go get my teeth cleaned in 45 min. and I need to eat first!

I did read the last few pages of the old thread and it was great to get caught up with everyone.

Deb, I'm so anxious to hear about being in the Cat. 3 and seeing the pictures from John's new camera! And for everyone else, I'm just going to pirate: what Shannon wrote above since I couldn't rewrite it better!:goodvibes

Yes, I am glad to see you back on the thread after your sickness in Dec. We were so worried about you!

But I ate so much that I gained 10 pounds in three weeks. So today is day two of my rededication to my diet. My head hurts and I am starving. I must be doing something right. LOL.

Sorry you didn't get to the bottom of the bullying. Perhaps Keith will open up eventually to the teacher and the school can then take action. At least they are now aware.

Well, yes, I had lost nearly 50 pounds until the cruise! Now it is nearly 40. LOL. Hopefully there was some water weight in there so that will come off a little quicker. I have a goal to get to a size 12 in 2010. That is a pretty lofty goal for me! I haven't been a 12 in 20 years.

I am participating in the Biggest Loser over on the WiSH boards with Shannon and the gang. I won the Fall challenge and was crowned the biggest loser. I hope they don't strip me of my crown for gaining over the holidays. LOL.

Hi Michelle!

We've still got lots of snow, but we're supposed to get ice pellets and freezing drizzle over the next couple of days. Yuck, I'd rather have the snow!

We have had a couple of nice and sunny days though, even if it has been cold.

I have to say goodnight. I'm off work tomorrow, but Sara is coming over early and we are going for a walk. We've done quite well the last couple of weeks, made it to the gym twice and a long walk outdoors each week. This week I've already been to the gym twice and plan on going after work on Friday too! I'm aiming to lose before my April cruise...since I know I'll be gaining a little over those 6 sea days ;) unless of course we have huge waves the whole time

I'm feeling miserable and irritable today. Venting with a long story and bit of advice.
I have a stupid weak spot in one eye, which has decided to act up again only way worse than normal. My eyes are prone to dryness, and sometimes at night the weak spot in the eye sticks to the inside of the eyelid, and then when I open my eye it rips a layer of cells off that spot OUCH. So I have to remember to put drops in before bed. Well, for some reason this winter my eyes are dryer and in the last few days its been worse and worse until ithurts all the time. Went to optometrist today and got to learn some new things. This time, its gotten so bad its turned into an 'ulcer' and he put a bandage contact in and gave me antibiotic drops to make sure it doesn't turn into an infection. In 2 days it should be much better. :goodvibes

Here's the bit of advice: The weak spot in my eye is from when Shaelyn got me in the eye with a book and scratched the eye and it didn't heal properly. So take care of your eyes!

In 2 days it should be much better. :goodvibes

Here's the bit of advice: The weak spot in my eye is from when Shaelyn got me in the eye with a book and scratched the eye and it didn't heal properly. So take care of your eyes!

LOL.

Well done Tammy, that is a great weight loss. I bet you soon get rid of that gain as you are obviously very determined.

Maybe when no more chocolates left, I won't buy anymore and stick to diet...

I need to lose weight for my brother's wedding and holiday...:sad1:

Morning Thieves!

Shannon, wish I could share some 'tears' with you...my eyes are always leaking! :lmao: (ok, that actually sounds kind of gross.....sorry)

Tammy, great job on the weight loss. I had managed to re-gain what I'd lost before my September cruise (about 14 pounds) and most of that was even before the holidays. A few have dropped off and it's amazing how much better you can feel with just 10 pounds gone, isn't it? I'm working hard on lossing a few more before my cruise, mostly just so I'll feel a little more comfortable on the plane and moving around. Just getting off the sugar makes my joints feel better.

THANK YOU KATYPOP! Got the present in the mail. I love the photo of the sisters in St. Thomas with Sunny Liston. Did you notice on the one of Peg and I at the DIS meet, than Monica is in the background lauging wildly? The third item will be shared with Monica and Cheri at the first bar we see on the ship!

Hope everyone has a good day, I'm off to rack up some more overtime today!

Cheri, I'm glad you enjoyed your Christmas, even though it wasn't the traditional one you are used to.

Thank you for your card! I received it today and will save the ornament for next Christmas. That gives me a full year to figure out how to put it together ;)

Oh, Kathe, I was thinking the same thing. I am not very crafty. LOL.

I am doing this mainly for my health which has deteriorated since we all cruised together in 2008. So I have some pretty strong motivation to feel better.

Yes, I feel much better. However I have a long way to go. I usually fly southwest and I was surprised that instead of needing an extension for my seatbelt on the plane, I was fine and even had a little extra room compared to before I lost some pounds. That is a great motivator. I am taking off for the med and baltics in four months or so, I want to get alot more weight lost between now and then. Then I can enjoy the trip more.

Your welcome  I thought you'd enjoy the pic with Monica in the background :lmao: My favourite pics are usually the ones that aren't perfectly posed!

Hope you and Monica and Cheri have a great cruise, it won't be long now!

I've booked my excursions for the EBTA and now am trying to decide what to do with my Dec dummy date booking:confused: I did consider keeping it, but it's too close to Christmas. I would be too stressed about everything I needed to get done at home to relax, I think. I am actually considering changing it to an Oct or Nov one this year. I need to chat with a friend who had said she'd like to go to WDW in the fall with me though. I can't do both, so I need to find out if she is still interested. I had mentioned she might join me on a cruise, but I think she'd rather see WDW , she's never been.

Sara has decided she more than likely won't be joining me for the 2011 cruise to Alaska. Her and Trevor want to come on the repositoning cruise to SF,Victoria and Vancouver though. So I guess I need to call and add one more to the repo, and drop 2 off the Alaska one!

Lots to do around here besides plan cruises, but I don't feel like doing anything else today! Sick of winter and ready for spring already

Found a small lump on my moms neck while treating a rash that wouldnt go away. The jerk dermatolagist spouts off right away..." It's cancer. I'll take a biopsy anyway just to be sure. Ill have your results in two weeks." So of course my mom is scared to death. The lump was in one of her lymphnodes. Very common kind of cancer. This was last week. She called today and talked to the nurse and this is what she posted on facebook......

"I'm so excited! Today is a day to celebrate. I got news that my biopsy came back negative, non malignant! Thank each and every one of you for all the prayers, good thoughts and words of encouragement! My brother found out after a routine check-up that he has prostate cancer. Very early stages, he went through surgery yesterday and is doing well :goodvibes I've had a sore throat for a number of days now so couldn't go to the hospital to visit him,but I did get to talk to him. He will be home by the weekend so I will visit him once he's settled in and comfortable. Scary for him, but he is in excellent health otherwise so prognosis is excellent!

I do have very sad news. I've shared a little bit over the last couple of years about Micah, who is a work friend's grandson . He had cancer, went through chemo and was cancer free for almost a year. His parent's just recently found out he had cancer again. I know I mentioned it here already, but any prayers would be appreciated. The dr's have started him on chemo again, and they may be able to do surgery...but they need a miracle. His family has been told he is terminal. He just celebrated his 8th birthday :sad1:

I figure I can always move the Dream b2b to the Fantasy when it becomes available if I want to. And, with two reservations, I could even get a second cabin with the discount/OBC and put some friends in there.

Sorry to hear about your brother. Paul had his surgery a little while after our Tortola cruise and is doing great! His was also caught at very early stages, thank goodness.

Bubba, don't you just want to go over and SMACK that doctor? Hey...where's Nan when we need her?

I've racked up about $100 take home in overtime already this week...there's a few more drinks of the day, eh? pirate: Plus I can match that by going in on Saturday and getting my filing caught up and 2010 files built. :thumbsup2 Then, I'll still have Sunday & Monday for chores and fun!

Well, I'm going to mosey over to facebook, haven't checked in there in a couple of days.

The dr's have started him on chemo again, and they may be able to do surgery...but they need a miracle. His family has been told he is terminal. He just celebrated his 8th birthday :sad1:

That is so very sad about Micah. I will be praying for him and his family, and for your brother too.

My husband had a bad times at work last night over holiday:eek:

Now today he had been sorted it out that our cruise for this July is okay now...

But next year April might not get it as not get more than one week holiday...

I told him not to worry we can change over to another times maybe summer as it will be more expensive....

or we might join b2b with you next year :rolleyes1 but I think dates still not good for school time off:sad2:

Glad you got this year's holiday sorted at Ian's work. What is the problem with him having 2 weeks next April. Isn't that in the next year's holiday entitlement?

It becomes more of a problem taking children out of school the older they get as schooling becomes more important.

Remember, the Magic is in Europe again in 2011 so that might be an option for the school holidays.

I never thought about that Europe will be in 2011... mmm...

there will be another options, if April turn down...

Surprised to see this thread include all the other trips we thieves have planned as well

We had planned to do the Baltic one in June and the PC in January, but two attacks, and finally the removal of an unnecessary organ (gall bladder) caused me to miss significant amounts of work. Being self employed, that of course affects any holiday plans

So we cancelled the Baltic cruise and are concentrating on the PC one.

I am now back to work, and everything is as it should be

Looking forward to chatting more in the months to come as we get closer to the time

Hi Mon, Hi All....sorry to hear all the trials and tribulations that everyone is going through.....hugs, love and prayers to all of you.

We went to Kennedy Space Center after getting off the boat today. Now I'm uploading pics to photobucket as I type.....UNFORTUNATELY.....Sandi and Joe are going to be here any minute and we're all going out to eat. When they leave I PROMISE that I'll post the pics for you all to see. Just a little bit longer now. Hang in there. I'll try to get some up before they arrive, but if not.....soon, very soon.

I submitted my days off request today for as far as I know about 2010. I'm sure there will be fainting back east over the request for 2 weeks together on the fall. That's our family holiday down in WDW.

This new company seem to be all about micro control. It seems like EVERYTHING must get approval.

I've also requested the first week on May. We'll probably go to WDW as we did last year. It will be a cash stay, most likely at POP or POR. I need all of our points for the 2-bedroom in the fall for 14- nights.

Even with the days I've said I want off, I still have 15 day PTO unplanned. I'll carry over all I can into 2011, which is only 5 days. That means I stll need to figure out what to do with 10 days barring any illness.

To tell you the truth, as Kaz says....once you go concierge you never go back.....for us.....we'll never go back to concierge again. Glad we tried it once, but we are not concierge people. It was way way too much fussing for us. I felt like I couldn't even wipe my butt without them doing it for me. They are relentless. They never leave you alone. It was to the point of being uncomfortable and almost annoying. Like I said it's not for us. We like to come and go at our leisure, we like doing things for ourselves, we like our independence and freedom. I felt like all that was taken away from us. They are very good at their job....it's just not for us.

The suite was beautiful but way too big. I could not find where I put anything. I'm more comfortable in 5122 where I know where everything goes. Every time I went to look for something I had to look in 15 drawers. Everything was in excess. It was too much for us.

I'm looking forward to sailing in MY room again. That's home to me.

That's interesting you should say that, Deb - we did concierge on the Wonder and didn't love it - like you say, too much fussing!!! Maybe it's because they're cramming it all into 3/4 days... I don't know. We're pretty low maintenance people and hate feeling beholden - OMG the chalet from hell absolutely reinforced that!!! Anyway, I just asked Richard his thoughts and he thinks that on the Magic it's much less precious... Personally I think we're usually the last suite they get to, being all the way aft in 8602, so they're just too tired to fuss!!! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Hi Kaz, we were port aft in 8078. We loved the location. We prefer port aft. We like the seclusion that you get when port aft on deck 5. 5122 is our preferred stateroom. Jerome, our concierge mgr....who was a sweetheart....even remembered us by our preference for 5122....small world. Maybe it is more intense on the Wonder and it would be different on a longer cruise. I shouldn't complain so much....everything was excellent....everything was perfect.....just in abundance.

I should rent Sukie out, he's great at getting rid of unwanted people.

Oh by the way, some sort of Chicago Tribune associated digital publication has contacted Sukie to see if he would be interested in doing a blog in their publication. I think he's going to give it a shot. I'm not entirely sure there's remuneration, but it would be good exposure. He just has to do what he does best, be himself.

Love the idea!!! & we can say we knew him when... ;)

Most important question for all of us planning on freezing ourselves silly next april...

did the ship have heat????

Yes, it was warmer than my hotel room was before boarding. There was a thermostat in the bedroom and in the dining room. We set it on high and it worked fine. But then again, we were in a suite. I'm not sure what the other rooms have. The public spaces were warm inside but it was very cold outside and doors would open as you walked and so you were still freezing. The suite had extra warm blankets and pillows....not sure about the regular staterooms. I'm sure Disney will accommodate for Alaska...not to worry. Can you believe there were kids in the pool when it was only about 30 degrees outside. They were making me even colder watching them. They will probably add a ceiling for the Alaska run.

We got to the terminal early on Sunday and went right into the concierge section to wait. The only ones in that section were us and one other family that was on deck 2 but was chosen as family for the day. They were the first family on the boat.....we were the second. That's why every picture is empty of people. We had the whole boat to ourselves. We ran around and took pictures of outlook cafe. Then we went to eat at Parrot Cay. By that time we were cold and tired of carrying our carry on bags. The room opened and we took pictures inside. We unpacked, went to the Promenade Lounge and then did the drill. Sail Away was outside so we skipped it. We froze just doing the drill. We were outside on deck 4. When we stay in 5122 we meet in Animator's Palate. Glad we're staying in that room going to Alaska.

We went down for dinner on Sunday night and were seated at a table for four all by ourselves. Our table was right near the entrance and we had the best servers. We were in Animator's and it was the only night that we ended up going to dinner.

Monday was John's birthday. We had coffee in the room. It was way to cold to sit on the terrace. Then the cake came and we had mimosas. We didn't have to meet for our Nassau excursion until 1pm. We went to Graycliff Hotel and did an wine and cheese pairing. We were there all afternoon and had the most wonderful day. We had dinner in the room from Parrot Cay that night and we went to see Toy Story the Musical.

Later that same evening.....actually at 2am to be exact.....I lost my cookies.....every twenty to thirty minutes for the next almost 24 hours. Along with that.....at the same time and inbetween, I had the runs very badly. I was sick on both ends all night long and the next day too. I kept drinking water with ice so that I could lose that instead of bile which was so much worse. Eventually I just stayed in the bathroom and didn't come out. I slept there in between getting sick. It was the worst that I have ever been sick in my life.

Then as if it had never happened....everything stopped and I was fine. I slept a lot to regain my strength. That was our CC day. John mostly stayed in the room with me in case I needed anything.

It was a good thing that we had two bathrooms because I clogged the toilet in the front bathroom and had to call maintenance. Talk about embarassing.

Wednesday was a day out to sea. We had Palo brunch and John had a hot stone massage. We saw the Princess and the Frog. We ate upstairs outside on nine.....finger food. I wanted to keep it light. I didn't eat much at brunch either. I was too scared.

We packed up and got ready to leave this morning. Then we went to NASA today and did Sandi and Joe and Kris dinner tonight.

It's been a very strange vacation....between the weather and getting sick and being in the suite.....but it's been fun all the same. It's just been way too short.

We have 12 nights at SSR, 1 week's cruise, then 3 weeks in a villa at Florida Pines on the 27. A little further away from you but not too far.

We won't have a car for a week or so - taking the ME and saving a few $'s. We could meet at DTD, perhaps Wolfgang Puck Express, or we could have a meal at the Turf Club and hang around there for a bit.

Afraid not. We arrive on the 8th February and leave on the 20th March. I am really wishing we had booked for April/May now as it would have given me a little longer, as I only go for my follow up appointment 10 days prior to leaving. All should be ok, but there is just that slight chance of further blood tests etc and that would mean cancelling. I need a fit to travel ok for the insurance.

However the Flower and Garden thingy starts while we are there, so I will think of you both when we wander through the fairy garden!!

I chose to repeat the first week in May, because the crowd levels were so nice last year, as was the weather.

I still need to figure out where we'll be staying. I'll probably call DVC member services and see what the DCV and AP cash prices are like.

I'm 'sleeping in' this morning as I major head cold blew in about 5PM yesterday. Had about one hour of feeling 'off' (instead of one day), then the stuffy nose came and by the time I was driving home I was dragging. Was up about 3-6ish, so I slept in and am having fluids and medication now. Will go into work for just a couple of hours to handle emergencies then it's back to bed for me. I want this GONE as fast as it came on!

Even with the days I've said I want off, I still have 15 day PTO unplanned. I'll carry over all I can into 2011, which is only 5 days. That means I stll need to figure out what to do with 10 days barring any illness.

Trip to AZ in Feb.??????

Hi Deb, Loved seeing the pics of your room! I get what you're saying about the fussing, etc. and the big room. As I looked at the photos I was thinking that the room would be nice if you were on the ship for 2 weeks, but for 4 days it's not really necessary. However, since you were sick and sort of stuck in your cabin, at least it was a nice place to be stuck in!:thumbsup2
Hi Ian....YES it's the new camera on full auto. John took all the pics. I never took the old camera out. So everything I post was taken with the new camera. John loves it. I think they look good.

I've booked the POP with an AP discount and the special that they're offering. I believe the week-nights are only going to be about $69 a night which is not bad.

It will be a change for us, considering that we normally stay in a DVC resort and typically a 1-bedroom to boot! So this is a budget trip, but we have APs so why not use them.

Today I also banked the necessary points from my August use year into next year. I'll need them for the 14-night family trip. For October, I'm trying to decide between a 2-bedroom at OKW or trying to see if we can get the 3-bedroom Treehouse Villa at SSR.

I believe the Treehouse villas are really nice and I would love a short stay there, but the bus transportation isn't good. You have to catch an internal bus to SSR and then catch the park buses from there. If you plan to use the car then that isn't a problem at all, but it would stress me out if I had to do that extra bus ride!!!

Good Morning Friends....we're back home in PA. It's so good to be back home after travelling. Ella and Angel are so happy....Ella hasn't stopped purring and Angel has not left John's side. Ahhhhh the comforts of being home.

I'm back on my laptop and it feels gigantic as compared to the netbook. The keyboard, the screen.....huge. It's funny what you can get used to in just one week.

Since we had to buy it in FL....I used my electric blanket at home last night to sleep. I loved it. So did Ella. He he.

Monica, you are correct about the murphy bed in the suite. It's behind the chair in the bedroom. The one bedroom suite sleeps 6.....the bed and murphy bed in the bedroom and the couch in the living room. You could bring mom and dad and sis and her older one and little one....no names mentioned! The short cruise was reasonably priced....especially in January with an onboard 10% discount. Maybe it would be better if there are more people in the suite for concierge to take care of....spread the attention around. There's plenty of room for everyone's things....that's for sure. With six people it comes out to approximately $500/pp. That's not bad considering where you are. Food for thought.

We'll be back in FL in May too....but we'll be in Cocoa Beach and we won't be taking a cruise. We're going down for Kris' high school graduation. In June he goes into the Army and starts boot camp. We told him that we'll come to his high school graduation and his boot camp graduation. After that, who knows when we'll see him.

We also offered Kris the opportunity to come up here in February during Presidents Day week and go snow boarding. He loves it. He can go right down the road to Blue Mountain. He used to go there all the time when he lived here.

We'll try to see him a couple of times before he heads out into the world.

In the meantime, maybe we can do some days at WDW before or after his graduation. We can take a few days and stay in Orlando. We still have 5 days left on our park tickets.

Ian, Kris graduates on May 17th. Have you booked the first week in May already? Want to go the second week instead? We could meet up.

The boat filled up....it was almost to capacity. I think they said the capacity was like 2750 and we had somewhere around 26XX something. It was close to full. You can't tell in the pics because we were the second family onboard. When the other families went to eat, we went to take pictures. We had the whole boat to ourselves. I just wish it was warmer. I would have liked to have the whole pool to myself....hahaha.

Deb, Cat 3 can order in the room from any restaurant except Palo. Cats 1 and 2 can order from any restaurant including Palo. Your consierge manager will bring you a menu from all the restaurants. Then you just call room service. It's very nice to not have to get dressed up sometimes. You can just wear lounging clothes to dinner. Also, they set the table for you....with a tablecloth and everything. Very nice.

I think everyone should try consierge just once. Some parts are so very nice and others not so much. For example, me and John always go to guest services to get a print out of our bill half way through every cruise to make sure we're within budget range. We were not permitted to do so in consierge. We had to call our consierge manager and leave a message. Then when he got the message he called us back to confirm. Then he had to go get it printed for us. Then they had to deliver it to us. Then they called to make sure that you got it. Then they also knew my business. When we wanted it, we could have walked down, picked it up, done. No fuss, anonymous, finished.

Deb, how are your leg and ear? Did they affect your enjoyment at all?

Hi Marilyn, it sounds like you're mending well....John mentioned on FB that you two were out walking today just like normal. How wonderful!!!

I'm very good too. The leg is the same. No difference. Not better not worse. Still infected and leaking. I have not been paying much attention to it except for dressing changes. The ear is 99% better. It's just a little sensitive to touch around the back. Otherwise, it's fine. Neither one slowed me down on vacation. It was a good thing. Since I already had the nasty viral bug. That was enough.

Thanks for asking Marilyn.

Monica, I didn't know that was the same bug that you had during the Baltic. I really feel for you....knowing first hand how terribly awful it is.

Glad to hear... I did hear that the treehouse villas while cool to be in... are rather remote and away from the bus routes...

:welcome: back Deb & John!
Sorry you ended up sick, and thanks for sharing the photos. Kaleigh thinks we should go on the ship again soon. I told her she was to wait for 2 more birthdays :scared1:

Jackie - hope your cold clears up fast!

Hi everybody else :goodvibes.

Ken and Shaelyn are just finishing cooking sloppy joe's for supper. She's liking cooking, so we're trying to keep her helping out.:goodvibes

Shannon... Tell Shaelyn that she can cook anytime for me!!!

only 3 days  You need a week to prepare for the invasion :scared1: :dance3:

Thanks for the well wishes for Molly and Taylor.

Paul and I are going to try to hit a movie tonight woo hoo a date

So... what'd you see???

John and I have decided that we like to meet up with and travel with friends....the more the merrier. When DCL sat us at our own table with just the two of us, it was nice to have the privacy....but it was way way more fun at the tortolian table where there were so many of us and we had such a great time laughing every night together. We missed you guys.:lovestruc

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I don't think I'd want to be at a table for just 2... my sister does that when she cruises... but I talk to mom every day... we'd get tired of each other... :rotfl:

My eye is starting to feel semi-normal again :thumbsup2
I have big plans of doing :laundy: today and probably not much else.

we DID make it out for brunch this morning... can't miss my eggs benny at Olivers... they'd send out a search party for me...

We'd love to see you and John. Sukie and I will have a confab about the dates. The one thing we really like about the first week in May is that the crowd levels in WDW are really really low.

Hence...Apply What I Know!

.

Oh my gosh Shannon, I've never heard of such a thing.....OUCH!!!!! Hopefully it feels better by now.

It's times like this that you find out who your friends really are and I feel so fortunate to have all of you in my lif...e! I felt the love, for sure! Praise the Lord! Thank you all!"

I do remember Micah, how sad. Poor little guy.

Glad your brother is doing well after surgery. How scary for him and your family.

Prayers headed up for your brother and your family, as well as for Micah and his family. :grouphug:

Well, I'm only on page 8, but have to get to bed. Tyler will be waking me up in a few short hours and we all know I function best on 12 hours of sleep, so only 5 will be miserable! We did both take a 2 hour nap just before suppertime, so hopefully that will make it easier for me to get up early with him. We're hoping to go to church, as we haven't been since summer. I needed a break from another classroom-type situation where Tyler gets in trouble every single time. :guilty: They know him well, of course, and try to make some accommodations for him, but it's just another rough place for him. He misses it though, and enjoys going, so we're going to try.

It's football playoffs in America....I want the Vikings to pound the Cowboys. So far so good....Cowboys 3 and Vikings 14. Keep it going.

The best part about going on a cold vacation is that we bought an electric blanket. Now I'm home with my blanket on and I'm toasty warm on a cold and wintery dismal day.

Not much going on today. It's dark in the middle of the afternoon and very dreary looking outside. It's nice to be inside snug as a bug in a rug.

Monica... Jackie... Cheri...

FYI... Shirley just put up a warning about breakins in the cars in PC... Lisa's one of the Geeks...

01/17/2010 UPDATE

there have been a number of car breakins soooooooo my suggestion to you if you are going to leave valuable stuff in your cars, make sure they are at least hidden etc. Our hotels have had quite a run so thought I would give you food for thought --IF your car is keyless, please check the key hole before getting in and if it appears that it has been tampered with, go where ever you are and call the police - take notes for your own safety - I just came back trying to get one of the cruisers help and be there if only for support. The cruiser was Lisa Graves and her family - needless to say they were all upset so please just be aware ok - these devils that can do such stuff will get their dues, but not soon enough.
Always
Shirley

Oh by the way, some sort of Chicago Tribune associated digital publication has contacted Sukie to see if he would be interested in doing a blog in their publication. I think he's going to give it a shot. I'm not entirely sure there's remuneration, but it would be good exposure. He just has to do what he does best, be himself.

Good morning all. I have today off from work for MLK Day. The first time in my work career that I've had it as a holiday, but now we follow the schedule from the NY company.

Still hard for me to comprehend that as of November 13th my employment ended with one company and I was hired by another.

Speaking of which, my boss is coming to Chicago tomorrow evening. I've been given no agenda and have zero insight into what he wants to discuss over the course of 3 days.

On a perkier note, today is going to be a "me" day.

I bought a new camera for Sukie over the weekend, so I think we may play with it to learn it.

I'm also going to spend some time on the blog software, setting up my site and learning a bit more about the software.

And, lastly, I'm going to be killing me a bunch of bad guys in a video game.

All in all I would say it's a perfectly planned boy day.

look nice and make sure you stick with it finish at end ::yes:: because I only half done on Puppy Love, Toys 2, Teddy for wedding :rolleyes1

Ah I see, I got your information for Cat 3....

Oh, it sounds like so much fun tonight Deb. Enjoy!

I was going to get the Fuji S200EXR which is the camera I recommended to Deb. It is getting incredible reviews as a "prosumer" point and shoot camera, as close as you can get to a DSLR.

However, I joined a couple of photography forums (similar to the DIS), and explained Sukie's needs. He'll be taking a lot of photos in clubs and needs flexibility to work without a flash in low-light.

The feedback on the Fuji was excellent and I saw sample photos that were taken by people that were incredible, but for the types of needs that Sukie, especially the low light, a DSLR was recommended, because he'll ultimately have the ability to change lenses and use a "fast" "prime" lens for the clubs, allowing him to work in very low light without a flash.

That sent me into a panic because I know so little about DSLRs. I spent a fair bit of time doing research and it came down to 3 models based on our budget, the Canon XSi, Nikon D5000 and the Pentax K-x. They are all relatively new models with the Pentax being the newest.

Lot's of discussion on boards later, it was narrowed down to just 2 models, the Nikon and the Pentax. The Canon would never be able to handle light levels as low as the Nikon and Pentax could.

This past Saturday we headed down to a camera store to look at them. It was a real camera store, geared much more towards professionals than people like me. Think of something the size of a good sized Walmart. I didn't even know what 90% of the equipment was for.

They had a wall of refrigerator cases (the ones with doors like in the supermarket) with nothing but different types of film in them!

I had completely forgotten what it was like to shop in an old fashioned store. You know the type where the salespeople don't just work there but also understand the products and technology!

I had to hunt down a salesperson. It was sort of confusing because it was also arranged with "consultation desks," which of course you need if you have people coming in to buy professional studio film, video and digital equipment.

Our salesman was great. No pressure at all.

We ended up getting the Pentax K-x. Sukie preferred it, and after all, he's the one going to be using it the most. It was less "clunky" than the Nikon, smaller in the hands and it weighed (without a lens) 105g (about 1/4 pound) less than the Nikon.

I have to agree with him, it felt right in the hands, not awkward and was not too heavy with the lens.

The price was comparable to the online prices, and the salesman had spent so much time with us, I bought it there. Though I'm not sure how I felt about paying the sales tax.

I am not getting any other lenses right now, not until he learns how to use the camera. Also lenses are a bit of a shock! I never realized how much they cost, as much if not more than the camera!

It was a bit unexpected. I had only intended to go shopping and hadn't thought I'd be buying anything.

I'd still be interested in the Fuji as a major upgrade to our point and shoot family. It is a very amazing camera, especially using it's EXR settings. I'll be exploring that again later in the year.

Hve you killed all the bad guys yet??? Come on... it's lunch time... you should have at least 1/2 of them gone y now...

So have you named your blog yet?

look nice and make sure you stick with it finish at end ::yes:: because I only half done on Puppy Love, Toys 2, Teddy for wedding :rolleyes1

No I never received them and I really want to see them. As I said, o think that's going to be our point and shoot, since we each like to take our own photos on vacation. I also have to sell 3 cameras on eBay! One of them a Sony that is an older modelthan yours.

Hi Steph...

Welcome back... check in from time to time... we're still talking...

So what are your dates for sailing??? There are some thieves who are doing the last mexico before the repositioning to Alaska... and there are A LOT of us going on the B2B LA to Vancouver to Alaska...

I'd love to do the la/vancouver and alaska but my dd should be going to wash. dc at that time with her class. Don't have the schedule yet so I can't book anything else.

I booked the April 3rd. That's during our school's spring break. Got a SPH too. Very happy. I'm hoping her flight doesn't leave when the magic comes into SF. I am planning on being on the GG bridge taking pics as the ship comes in! If I am not on it anyways. I hope to see many of the PC folks that are doing that cruise that day. Wish I could go on board :sad1:

Morning everyone!

I spent my 3 day weekend doing pretty much nothing - well, :happytv: :surfweb: :laundy: and :cloud9: (best smiley for sleeping IMO).

Starz had a free weekend so I finally watched HSM3 and recorded Race to Witch Mountain.

I watched another movie (thru Netflix) called Adam - about a 29yo w/ Asperger's. Interesting to watch but slow.

My printer ran out of ink (still need to print out my door magnets...does anyone know where I can get color prints made from pic in an email?)....got a lovely (major sarcasm) virus on my laptop...not a good technology weekend. I was able to check my emails & the DIS from my phone :)

Still not sure what I/we're doing in Grand Cayman. Do we do the Turtle Farm (I have a thread on the main board about this)? I also found a discover Scuba thing...do I do that? w/ or w/o turtle farm? I've been told that GC is amazing for water stuff....really torn...thoughts from you guys always appreciated (hint...hint...)

Cheri - can't wait to hear about the WD Museum - that is the MUST do for me in SF on the repo cruise.

Hi Steph! Good to see you!

Gydell - let me know when you plan to be here in Sept & we'll meet up :thumbsup2

It was a bit unexpected. I had only intended to go shopping and hadn't thought I'd be buying anything.

The difference with buying a DSLR versus a point shoot is that you aren't buying just a "camera". You are actually buying into a "system". So now that you have the base "system" you can now expand that system to do more and other things. Each lens you buy can expand your system.

Think of like buying a mac or apple computer. You are buying into a system. You get the base components that will allow you later on to get the airport, timecapsule, etc.

The difference being is that the camera itself doesn't really do much, it is the lens that dictates what the camera can do. Thus more energy (and thus $$) goes into the lens. And because it is a niche market the smaller the market for the lens' capabilities, the larger the price. The more you want the lens to do, the bigger the price tag.

The lens I am looking has a pricetag of about $1000 CDN. So it is something I have to seriously be sure about. And lately I've been reading some negative things about it, making me second guess it. But I haven't found anything that is comparable for what I want it do yet.

The one issue I have had with the Pentax line is that lenses aren't that readily available to me here in northern BC. I practically have to order everything I want for it (Speedlight, grip and lenses). There is something to be said about being able to see the lens on the camera feel its heft. So it just means I have to do that much more research.

Precisely the reason I sort of agonized over the decision. It was a tie between the Pentax X-y and the Nikon D5000, I hesitated primarily due to the lenses. But Sukie preferred the Pentax which was also a bit over 100g lighter than than the Nikon and it was smaller. Ultimately, the camera is to suit his needs for taking photos for the paper.
