I booked a value room for my mom, dd6 and I for May with the 30% off room only rate.

I used this deal instead of the gc because I thought it was a better saving since we didn't need dining.

Well I just talked to my mom and she wants to do more eating than I planned on. So I crunched numbers with the dining plan, and it looked like it would be a bit of saving.

I went and 'booked' my original trip, then added tickets (5 days), then added the dining plan. I went back and booked a room with the gc deal and tickets and meal plan, and it came to about $200 more...so you can get the meal plan with the room only rate?

If I called would they do the changes for me? Or am I silly at this point not to change to the gc deal? So confused!

I'm not sure what you saw on the website, but no, you can not get the Disney Dining Plan with a room only reservation. You must book a WDW Magic Your Way Package, which includes room, tickets and dining.

that's what I thought! but it is giving quotes that are about $200 cheaper if you go trough the room only link than if you try to book the same stuff through the gift card link.

Give them a call and find out. YOu can add dining and tickets to a room only reservation and turn it into a package.

Whether the price is cheaper than the package with the gift card, I don't know but it sounds like it is.

So, if on the website, you book the room only with the discount and then add, it will indeed keep the room discounted. IF that price is cheaper, then it means that the discounted room is a better deal than the GC option.

If you use the "room only" deal and you add tickets you change it into a package and can add the dining plan.
You pay the discounted rate for the room and full price tickets and DDP.

If you use the GC deal - you need to pay rack rate for your room, and full price tickets and DDP. If you say it is $200 more - did you subtract the GC - as it is actually $300 for a value resort - so you would come out $100,- ahead with it?

yep that's exactly right. It's the discounted room and the tickets and DP ala cart.

Would I spend a $300 GC if I had the DP?:confused3

This is another question..if you buy a dining plan with a 5 day ticket, and you are there for 6 days, 5 nights, when does it start and more importantly, when does it end? Would I be able to book a breakfast on the day we check out? if so than what about dinner on the night we check in? because technically that would be six days.....

from the DIS FAQ thread

When do my dining credits expire?
Your credits will expire at midnight on the day you check out of your resort.

How many credits do I receive?
The number of credits you receive is based on the number of nights you are staying at the resort. On the regular (most popular) plan, you receive one Table Service credit (TS), one Counter Service/Quick Service credit (CS), and one snack credit, for each person registered on your reservation, for each night of your reservation.

so I would be able to book dinner on the night we arrive and breakfast the day we leave as long as I have enough TS credits?

Your dining plan credits can be used from the moment you check in until 11.59pm on the day you check out - so you can use them on all 6 days as long as you have credits left!
We usually have an early lunch (CS) and then a TS dinner - we use our snack credits for breakfast items.

When you added tickets and dining, they made it a package. Be sure you are working with package rules regarding cancellation and changes, rather than the rules for room-only reservations. They are quite different. You will need to pay your package in full no later than 45 days from arrival.
