I searched the forums and couldn't find exactly the answers I was looking for, so I felt I needed to start a new thread.

DW and I are contemplating a Disney Cruise in December. Neither of us has ever cruised before so we are newbies. My primary concerns are my photo equipment.

In reading the literature, you are allowed one carry on and one "other" bag. Would a photo backpack count as the "other" bag? (most likely my Tamrack Adventure 7)

Tripod? I understand the boat will be constantly moving but would the stability of a tripod "relative" to the ship be worth schleping it along?

Castaway Cay. Has anyone taken their DSLR on to the island? Where do you keep it while swimming, snorkeling, etc?

Overall saftey. Anyone had any issues with their cameras on a cruise?

I know you guys can answer my questions! :thumbsup2

Thanks in advance!

13 DCL voyages under my belt. Never a problem with a camera. I do not bring a tripod, as yes the theory of the tripod moving the same as the ship would counterbalance one another. But it does not account for the vibration of the ships engines. I have only brought my dSLR to Castaway Cay when I wasn't going into the water. Usually I bring a P&S in a water case. You will have no problem bringing a camera bag in addition to your carry on. Just remember you might be carrying it for a couple of hours until you cabin is ready. So I recommend one of the bags to be rolling.

If I remember correctly, when I was on the cruise in October; I think I had 2 normal sized carry-ons, in addition to my camera bag (it might depend on the size of your bag though). Mine is more like a full size purse size; so maybe they just let it slide. They said nothing whatsoever about it.

As far as camera safety, I haven't heard any complaints about theft. I left my dslr next to my chair and just covered it with a towel. I did keep glancing back to make sure it was ok. So it's up to you to decide if your nerves will take it. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info everyone! Our local AAA office had a Disney Day today and there was a Disney rep there. Long story short, we booked our cruise for December!!!! I guess we are no good with delayed gratification. :rotfl2:

I am sure I will have several questions over the next 11 months about the cruise and photography on the ship. I promise to try and not be TOO annoying!

Thanks again for your answers!

We sail on Sunday, Dec. 5th for a 4 night cruise on the Wonder. We are starting with a shorter cruise as we have never done a cruise before and we want to make sure we like it and DW is a little nervous about the whole sea sickness thing.

Ah, I think we will be sailing around Christmas or shortly after. Oh well. Not even sure if it will be a Disney cruise at this point. I thought sea sickness would happen to one of us on the first cruise we went on but really it is hard to feel the ocean at all except on REALLY rough seas. One night I could feel it slightly and they said that the seas were going to be rough. I hope you have a great cruise!
