My sister and I are thinking about taking my children (boys 10+11) to disney for christmas. They've been to disney before, and love it, but I was wondering about universal/ioa. They hate rollercosters and larger scary rides, but love superhero characters. Would it be worth it for me or are the rides mainly too large or scary (the runaway railroad in disney is too scary for them - I don't know why I love rollercoasters)? Would one park be better for us than the other? If we don't go now, we could try in a year or two when the boys are older/more brave, it's more important that they enjoy themselves. Any advice?

ther is plenty to do at IOA without ever riding the coasters. Spiderman is a great ride and they will probably love it. Suessland is a fun place for old and young and alike.

Posidon's Fury is a fun experience and Camp Jurassic is a blast especially the water cannon battle area:D

My son is 9 and we've been going to USF since he was 6. He's been to every park in Orlando and counts USF/IOA as his favorites and last May was the FIRST time he was tall enough to get on the big coasters!

In other words, he found MUCH more to do while not being able to do the things that most people think is ALL USF has to offer.

If your kids love super heroes, and believe me I was one of those kids being a BIG comic book fan, they would just LOVE these parks. Not only will they enjoy the rides, but the characters would be more appropriate to their age. My son loves posing with Spiderman, Dr. Doom, Shrek and the Grinch, which have a much higher COOL  factor than the Disney characters!

I KNOW they'll enjoy it!

We just took a 6-year old and two 9-year olds. They had a wonderful time. In fact, I asked the 6-year old what he rathered - Universal or Disney - He said Universal!

My son and I aren't big roller coaster fans either, but we loved both parks. Spiderman alone was worth the trip.

My 12 y/o daughter and 10 y/o son have both been to WDW and USF many times and would rather do USF than WDW now. Once they get past the age that they love the "character" thing at WDW, they will prefer the diversity at USF. Check out my themeparks page for some shots of the things to do.

Great site & pics Dave!
Universal should give you a commission for pitching that sale! You got great shots of a lot of oft ignored sights.

Thank you for all of the great advice. Looking at Dave's pics (thanks Dave) really brought the parks alive, they look great! They would love the themeing and your right, Robin, I think it looks more appropriate to their ages (they'll be 11 + 12 by the time we go). Now I just have to convince my sister....
