Bonjour!
So after following a couple of journals around here I decided it was time to start my own pre- trip report.;)
First off, let me introduce you to our family:
My name is Queila and I am 32 years old. I was born and raised in Brazil but in 2000 I met my husband and moved to Canada to be with him. His name is Joey and he was born and raised in Canada from Italian parents. He is the best husband (and daddy) in the world. :love: Seriously.
In 2007 we had a baby girl named Beatriz. She is our pride and joy and the reason why we are going back to Disney next May. That is what we tell people anyways. She will be 2 and 1/2 by then.
We live in the suburbs of Montreal where I work part time as a dental hygienist.
When I am not planning our next trip to Disney :surfweb: I love to read and spend time with my baby girl.
I have always considered myself a Disney geek/ expert but that was until I signed up at the Disboards. You guys are insane and I love it!! :worship: I have been learning A LOT by reading the boards.
http://images.orkut.com/orkut/photos/OgAAAO4rQK-fV6FsKdfYn42Bqac-5IiNBJD3zsMhHU5rhf5RqHUEtuLa62qevZEpXnW5OwobFKPt3P yOAnSo1XDmq3wAm1T1UL6aIPijl2MzErX_nonxuHg4Xh7W.jpg
First time I went to Disney was in 1993 with my parents and younger sister. Going to Disney when you turn 15 is kind of a tradition in Brazil so we did it as a great family trip. Looking back now I realize how NOT prepared we were for that trip. Virtually no research was done and we basically just followed the crowds. I have great memories from those days anyways. We stayed off site at a Hamptons Inn.
In 1994 my sister and I visited Disneyland in California. It was a one day trip on our way back to Brazil from a month spent learning English in San Francisco. To be sincere, I remember very little from Disneyland.:confused:
In 1998 we took another trip with friends to Orlando and stayed off site again. A family friend in Brazil owned a travel agency and used to take groups of Brazilians (yes, those noisy groups of teenagers everybody tries to avoid) every July and she invited me to go with her to help. It was a free trip and I learned a lot with her about planning your days at the parks. From that trip what stood out the most was breakfast at Chef Mickeyīs. I remember looking around at the Contemporary resort and hoping to be able to stay in a Disney hotel one day.
In 2001 I moved to Canada and my husband never showed any interest in visiting Disney World. He was one of those people who believes Disney is a destination for children only and I had almost lost hope of ever going back. :sad2:
But, it all changed in 2009!
To be continued....

Continuation...
So in the Winter 2008/2009 the brother of a friend from Brazil was working at Disney World. He was in the International College Program and he was working with merchandising at the Winnie the Pooh store at Downtown Disney.
My friend said she was going to visit her brother and invited us to go with her and her family. She explained we would have free admission to every park and possibly a discount to stay at a Disney hotel.
Since we took way too long to give her an answer (we had another trip scheduled to visit my family in Brazil), we lost the opportunity of staying inside the property BUT after much nagging on my part my husband agreed on acompanying them on their trip.:dance3:
He emphasized that he was doing it for me since he didnīt care about Disney and our baby was only 14 months old and wouldnīt care for it either. I assured him I would be forever thankful and that he was not going to regret it.:hug:
So off we went from Jan. 30th 2009 to Feb. 4th, 2009 and it took my husband less than a nano second to fall in love with Disney World! :wizard:
http://images.orkut.com/orkut/photos/OgAAAAHBrR4C0U3dX0ABOgtKNzE8D7G4GzxEFrbjbmJhReHf5x ZcxiQ7outeWz2Q8_56tRIpRo9V24XhdbuHJnn-RkUAm1T1UIyndiHD-stH1WWyzLSA0DTovpRk.jpg
The trip was perfect. I could hardly believe I was there with my husband and daughter. It was an old dream coming true.
That trip was everything I needed to make Joey a Disney fan. As soon as we came home we started planning our next one.
This time we will stay inside the property so we can enjoy the Dinning Plan and I can barely contain my excitement about it. I have been having a blast planning our days and our meals. If he liked Disney last time wait until I make him experience the full on Disney magic.
I am convinced we will become regulars! :woohoo:

We are currently on vacation in Brazil. Heading out to the beach- no Internet connection- for the next ten days.
Apparently Montreal is freezing. It feels good to be out here. :cool1:

So.... it turns out we do have wi-fi at the beach! :banana:
So now onto our next trip to WDW...
The date of our trip:
We knew we wanted to go in the Spring and our first choice was to go during Easter time but we gave up on that when we heard about the crowds.
Then we thought about the month of May. Since we have a holiday in Canada on May 24th, Joey would only need to take 4 days off from work and we would be able to stay an entire week. It is perrrrfect!
Some people have already warned us that it might be just too hot in Florida at the end of May but hey we live in Canada. It is actually nice to feel some heat once in a while. :laughing: And besides, we reserved a full day to stay at the hotel and enjoy the swimming pool. Hopefully it wont rain.:cool2:
Magic our way:
Even though we are staying eight days in Orlando we decided to purchase a five day ticket only. No hopper pass. We want to take a break from the parks in the middle of the week and I think doing one park per day is our best bet of enjoying our day with a two year old. The goal will be just to enjoy ourselves as much as possible instead of doing as many rides as possible.
During my last trip last year I realized that what I really like about Disney is taking my time to appreciate the details and imersing myself in the atmosphere. I guess I dont care as much about the rides as I care about taking in all the information around me so one park per day suits me just fine.
Our schedule:
Saturday- May 22nd- Arriving in Orlando;
Sunday- May 23rd- Epcot- Future World;
Monday- May 24th- Animal Kingdom;
Tuesday- May 25th- Hollywood Studios (Fantasmic);
Wednesday- May 26th- Day off from the parks - chill out at the hotel;
Thursday- May 27th- Magic Kingdom;
Friday- May, 28th- Epcot- World Showcase;
Saturday- May, 29th- Trip back home. :(
Pretty exciting, isn't it?

Hi there! You're going the same week as us! What a great start to your report. Your daughter is a doll. :goodvibes Can't wait to see what you have in store. :thumbsup2
We've gone in May 5 times. I don't think it is too hot. Unfortunately last year it did rain every day of our trip but the 4 times previous it only rained for a few minutes all week. There are a lot of us praying that there is no rain this year. :goodvibes:
Which hotel are you staying at during your trip?

Subbing to your report! popcorn:: You have a beautiful family! Isn't it funny how quickly the hubbies get converted once they are there? ;) I'm glad your DH agreed to another trip! I think your plans look really good! I totally agree with you about taking the time to just soak everything in and enjoy yourself. I think taking a break from parks in the middle of the week is a good idea, too, especially with a toddler. Great start! Looking forward to your next update!

I really do not mind the heat. Last time we went in Jan. 2009 it was actually the coldest week Florida had seen in a long time. We had to leave Epcot a couple of hours earlier on our last day because it was too windy to wait for Illuminations outside with the kids. :(
As for the rain I will join you in your prayers. :laughing:

Ha! My due date was Nov. 22, but Layla didn't make her appearance until Dec. 5. So she'll be ALMOST 2 1/2 when we're at WDW. :) We'll be staying offsite - my dad's work has a place available for super cheap, so we'll be staying there. When my DH and I went in 2005 we staed at AS Movies, which we enjoyed. The price was right, and we didn't spend much time there anyway. I will miss not staying on property this time, though. Maybe I missed it, but where will you be staying?

So this time around we decided we absolutely wanted to be on the Dining Plan.
The idea of having our meals pre paid giving us the oportunity of eating at restaurants we probably wouldn't otherwise had us at 'hello'. :thumbsup2
Now we just had to decide which hotel to stay. As first timers on a budget a value resort seemed just perfect.
We are not fancy people and we are very content with a shower and a clean bed at the end of the day so... a value resort was an easy choice.:teacher:
In an attempt of involving my husband on the planning process I let him choose which All Stars he would like to stay. Not surprisingly he picked All Star Sports. I was VERY happy with our decision, had already planned everything based on our choice and had even asked our travel agent to do our reservation.
But then...... I started reading some trip reports around here and found out about the possibility of rentind DVC points.
I did some research and couldn't believe what I found out. :yay: I could actually stay at a Deluxe Villa for the price of a Value???? How come I had never heard about that before???:confused3
So a couple of more hours researching on line, e-mails, phone calls here and there and we actually got our reservations done for .... are you ready?.... THE ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE! :woohoo:
Now, never in my wildest dreams I imagined we would ever be able of staying there. We usually prefer to invest our money on other type of 'little luxuries' but hey I will take it for that price!!
So there you have it... we will be staying at a Studio with Savanna view and now you know where to find us from May 22nd to May, 29th 2010! :dance3:

Planning for May, 22nd 2010
The plan is to leave Montreal as early in the morning as possible but... we still haven't booked our flight. We are hoping for a straight flight to minimize the travel time but it will depend on weather or not we can find a great deal.
Beatriz is over 2 years old now and that means she needs to take a seat for herself even though she spends most of the flight on my lap anyways. :rolleyes: We've been shopping for the best possible deal :surfweb:but we know we cannot wait that much longer. We should book it soon. It is the only major thing left to be decided.
Once in Orlando, the plan is to spend the afternoon exploring our hotel and maybe using the swimming pool.:banana: Still haven't figured out where we'll have lunch that day. I guess it will all depend on our flight. We might eat in the plane or at the airport if we do not leave Montreal as early as we hope or we might be able to eat at Mara. ;)
We have reservations for supper at OHANA's that night. Something tells me we are going to LOVE it. Everything I have read or seen about it gives me a warm feeling. I know it is a very kid- friendly restaurant and I know it will put Beatriz on the right mood for the days to come.
Now... the extra special event of that day will be meeting up with my sister at super time. She will be driving down from Tennessee to spend three days with us at WDW. I haven't seen her in over two years and I cannot wait for our little reunion. :hug:She has only seen her niece once when she was 6 weeks old. :(
What better place for that than in a restaurant with a name that means "family"? :goodvibes
I get a teary eye just thinking about it.

My dad came to the States when he was 16, and hasn't been back since, but I've always loved Brazil and finding other people who are Brazilians! I really want to visit sometime.
Oh--and to carry on the Brazilian tradition of a huge 15 year old vacation, I got to choose our vacation that year--and I chose Disney World too! :goodvibes How neat is that?!
Your family is precious, and I can't wait for you to be at WDW. And WOO-HOO for staying at the AKL!!!!! :dance3: As you can see from my TR, it's amazing. You're going to love it.

My baby was a bit īlateīalso. My due date was Nov. 14th but I was induced one week later. I think it is a great age for a visit to WDW. She already talks about princesses and she also knows a lot of Disney songs. I canīt wait.
That is great you got a deal on a place to stay. Sometimes it is a great compromise since we can always think of ways of using the extra cash. :laughing:

Wow... I didnīt know you were half Brazilian. That is so exciting! Do you know where exactly your dad was born? I am from São Paulo and as matter of fact that is where I am right now:cool1:. We come every year at the end of December for around 3 weeks to visit my family. We are going back to Canada tomorrow though. :( Not looking forward to being back in the cold weather :sad2:.
It would be really great if you could visit the place where your dad spent his childhood. I hope my own daughter grows up to appreciate her Brazilian heritage. So far I think she loves it. She loves the beach just as much as I do and her Portuguese is very good too! :rotfl:
Going to Disney when you turn 15 is a must do for a lot of people around here. That is why there are so many groups with teenagers from Brazil in the parks, specially during the Summer. You proved to be a real Brazilian when you chose to go. :thumbsup2

We are back in Canada.
Back to work.
Trying to get back to the swing of things.
So much to do.
So little time.
Looked at the pictures of our trip and realized how over my "comfort" weight I am right now. Time to start losing some serious pounds if I want to enjoy my Disney pictures. :laughing: Seriously considering Weight Watchers.
Put Beatriz' crib down. Trying to make her sleep the whole night on her "big girl" bed. Not an easy task now that she realized she can just get up by herself and move into our bed.
We booked our flight to our trip to WDW! :banana:
Straight flight just like we wanted --leaving Montreal at 8 am and getting in Orlando at 11:20am. Really excited about having the whole afternoon to start enjoying our trip. Hate to waste a whole day travelling.
Started watching "The Bachelor" again. I can't help it. Addicted already.
I cannot wait to see Mickey!

So after having dinner at Ohana's I would like to take advantadge of the fact that my sister will have her car and perhaps drive to a grocery store to pick up some stuff to put in our hotel fridge. ;)
Maybe some snacks for Beatriz, some milk and juice, some baggles, cold cuts and cheese for breakfast and some bottles of water. I am thinking if we have a light breakfast at our room every morning we can save our Dining Plan credits for more yummy things in the parks. I know, I cannot stop talking about food. popcorn::
Does anyone know a place near WDW resort where I can get some supplies?
My original plan was to hang out at the Pollynesian Resort for a while and go to the beach to see Wishes at 10 pm. However, I am afraid if I wait until after the fireworks it will get too late to go shopping. Specially with a cranky , sleepy baby. It breaks my heart to miss out on the opportunity of watching Wishes from the Pollynesean resort though. :(
Anyways, if my sister gets to Orlando earlier than planned we just might be able to go before our meal but I doubt it. :rolleyes:
Still need to figure out the best place to go for our little grocery shopping. Any suggestions? Anyone?

There are several places close by. My brother (lives in Orlando) picks me up and takes me to a really close Walmart-I'm not a big fan of Walmart but it's good for having everything we need in one place. I can ask him for some tips/directions if you want. :goodvibes

There's a shopping center right outside DTD? I am going to look into that. Thank you very much for the tip!:thumbsup2

Hi Queila!! Sorry--I didn't realize you had a PTR going!! Yay!! As you know we are going to be there the same week!! And AKL--how fun!! Oh--and we'll be in MK on Thursday and Epcot on Friday, too!! In terms of groceries, I ordered mine on our last trip from www.gardengrocer.com. They deliver to your resort so you wouldn't have to go shopping that night AND you could watch Wishes from the Poly beach!! (which we might do as well) There is a charge for the delivery (I'm thinking $12) but it is very worth it!! And if you aren't at your resort when they deliver, Bells Services will hold them until you get back. It's so convenient!! Oh--and you will LOVE O'hana--the food is excellent and the atmosphere is cozy and fun!! :goodvibes

Planning for May, 23rd ,2010
Epcot Center is the first park we are going to visit. It just happens to be my very favorite park so we are going to visit it twice (on the first and on the last day). :magnify:
I am so excited to have an entire day to explore the Future World. Last time we rushed too much through Epcot and I feel there were a lot of things we did not get a chance to do. :(
Upon arrival the plan is to go to Epcot character spot to take our official pictures with the characters while we are still looking good and not all tired and sweaty. I have never done this before but it just sounds like a good plan. I am not sure of what to expect in terms of characters we are going to meet but I will be happy with whoever shows up. Is there anything special I should know about the character spot? It will be our very first time.
Then it is off to the attractions…
I cannot wait to play astronauts at Mission Space again. Since we are going to be with my sister and brother - in - law we will use the ride swap to do all the big rides with a thrill. Last year I almost walked out of the line of the Mission Space I was so afraid of passing out but thanks to my husband I did not and boy did we ever have fun. I will definitely try to do it more than once if we have the time.
Then we want to play crash test dummies at Test Track, go under the sea with Nemo and interact with Crush. I know Beatriz is going to freak out! She loves Nemo and the other day I caught her humming "just keep swimming, just keep swimming...". :laughing:
And while we are under the sea we will stop for our lunch at the Coral Reef. :banana: Yummy. I made our reservations for 13h10 because we still don't know if my sister will be joining the dining plan and the menu is around 30% cheaper at lunch time and the items are basically the same. I think I am having the Grilled Mahi-Mahi by the way. ;)
I have read mixed reviews about the Coral Reef but I am willing to give it a try. I know Epcot Center has a lof of great options for a sit- down meal but I have always wanted to eat there so... I will hope for the best.
Maybe by the time we finish lunch the line up at Spaceship Earth hwill have diminished and it is our turn to enjoy it.
And then off to my favorite one… flying over California in a hang gliding! In 2008 we went on a trip to California (our first vacation as a family of three---just check the cute picture bellow) and we have the best memories of the time we spent there so Soaring had a special taste when we rode it last year.
http://images.orkut.com/orkut/photos/OgAAAE_Ubx8zNcoM_EdzhqMPhBoOJvSDlO3PEx4N8T2tJ1TlGw hWv0eoi0--wmbThIOTv8usHoG_kYc1UTpd8Z1OOV4Am1T1UGI3Os4o1qR5ZO yZ7of9FN8tCSLr.jpg
And then for the rest of the afternoon the plan is to visit some more attractions and play together at Innovations. It will be my first time at Innovations also so I am looking forward to spending some quality time as a family in there. Hopefully Beatriz will be old enough to participate in some of the activities. My husband is particullary looking forward to test driving a segway. :confused3
To finish off we can go have super at a quick service restaurant in the World Show case. Maybe I will have a cheese plate at the Boulangerie in France. Or maybe I will try the Japanese curry at Yakitori House. Last time I had the couscous at the Moroccan pavilion and it was to die for but I definitely go for something different this time.
And then we will go secure a spot around the lagoon to enjoy Illuminations that starts at 9pm. In the meantime we can watch some street performers, do some shopping and do some people watching while we wait for the show to start. I will save a school bread from the bakery in the Norway pavillon to eat while I enjoy the show.
So… how is that for a first day? Will it be too much with a two year old? She is not a difficult child (sure, she has her days :rolleyes: ) but I am thinking it is doable, specially if I get her to nap a bit in the afternoon in her stroller.

Hi, great pre-trip report so far. Your plans sound great. We are going the 2nd week in June and can't wait.
I think your plans for EPCOT sound great. As long as your DD will nap in the stroller, you should be fine. Hopefully, your DD (being the Nemo fan that she is) will stay occupied watching the fish tank during your lunch. :)
Going to the character spot first is a great idea. We did the same thing last June. We only waited about 2 minutes and later in the day the wait can get quite long. I'm actually a big fan of the character spot because you can meet Mickey's entire gang without waiting in separate lines. Plus the backgrounds make cute photos. They are very colorful and you don't have to worry about some kid in the background of your photos picking his nose or pitching a fit. :rotfl: Basically, you wait in line and then meet Mickey, then move on to Minnie, Donald, Pluto and Goofy. They all have their own area but the same line. Make sense? There are photos in both of my trip reports if you would like to see them. Also (last thing I promise), look around when you are in the hallway by the exit after you meet Goofy. Both times we saw additional characters there.
Happy planning.

:thumbsup2
We couldnīt be more excited about staying at AKL. I cannot wait to see Beatrizīreaction when she realizes there are real aimals roaming outside our room. Only four more months to go!
:dance3:
Thanks for signing up! I am excited to have you around.
Q
Hi Q!
Yes, I'm 1/2 Brazilian! I love it. My dad was born in Sao Paulo and lived in Rio later on. I'd love to visit someday. That is so neat that you get to go back every year!! I'm sure your daughter will just love having both heritages. I'm sure it's so different living in Canada. Brazilians aren't used to the cold!
I wish that I knew Portuguese. My dad always wanted us to try to learn on our own before he would teach us. So none of us know it. I have some aunts that have taught their kids, though, and it's so neat that they know both languages. Beatriz is a lucky little girl to be bilingual at such a young age. I'm sure she'll love her Brazilian heritage! I love mine, and I've never even been to the country!
Haha--that's so neat that I chose Disney at 15 and didn't even know it was the Brazilian thing to do! I'll have to tell my dad that I'm a true Brazilian. :thumbsup2
Beatriz will LOVE LOVE LOVE Animal Kingdom Lodge! It is the most gorgeous place. We loved absolutely everything about it. I bet she'll be SO fascinated with the animals. I can't wait to hear all about it!
Now...on to your latest updates. :) Your plans sound wonderful. The food is one of my favorite things to plan too. As far as groceries go, you might try to go to a supermarket nearby. I looked at Garden Grocer, but there's a minimum spending limit, and it was going to be really expensive for us. We ended up just taking a few things along and then using snack credits to purchase some breakfasts and things. We also got bottled water at all of our CS meals, and used them to refill throughout the day.
We loved Coral Reef!! Michael got the Mahi Mahi and it was amazing! My salmon was good, but it wasn't the greatest. Sometimes salmon is too oily for me. But the pasta that came with my salmon was out of this world good!! I think you'll like your meal there.
Epcot is my second favorite park! Be sure to go to "What's Your Problem" in Innoventions. It's so cute, and someone in your family will almost positively be picked. There are so many fun things to do in Innoventions and all around Epcot--You just have to dig for them!
All of your plans sound great!! :thumbsup2

Hello there! Welcome to my journal! :)
Thank you for the tips on the character spot. I think I have a better idea of what to expect now and I did look at the pictures at your journals. They look great BTW. The cute backgrounds do make a difference.
Beatriz do take naps every afetrnoon and gets kindda cranky if she does not so i am hoping the heat and the overload of information will make her pass out at some point in the afternoon. Last time we went she slept evryday in my baby carrier ( I call it a Kangourou) and it worked out great. I am thinking about bringing it back this time since she still fits in it. I can always transfer her to the stroller once she falls asleep.
And as for the lunch at Coral Reef i am not really concerned about her behaviour in the retaurant. She is used to it and I am pretty convinced the fish tanks will keep her entertained!
Happy 4 Months

Exactly! As I said I do not care THAT much about the rides. Of course there are the one I would be disppointed if we don't get the chance of ridding (like Soaring for example) but we were at WDW in 2009 s I am good with whatever we are able to get out of this trip. This time around it is all about Beatriz.
Your plans look great!! I love Epcot. It has so much to offer.
Oh my--- I love Epcot too. You can't get bored there. I am kindda geeky and trust me I can spend A LOT of time exloring each pavillon.

So since we are talking about Epcot Center let me go ahead and post some pictures of our last visit to Epcot on Jan. 30th, 2009.:thumbsup2
As I said before, the brother of a Brazilian friend was working at Downtown Disney. He was taking part of the International College Program and since it was his last week as a CM, we just packed our stuff and joined their family. It was a last minute trip but we just couldn't pass on some of the sweet deals (like free admission , for example). :woohoo:
So we landed at MCO at about noon, rented a big van, picked up my friend's brother and headed straight to the park. We got there at around 2 pm. It was very windy and cold but it was January and we could see palm trees so we were NOT going to complain about the weather.
We started by the Future World and if I remember correctly we did Nemo, Spaceship Earth, Soaring and Living with the Land.

We ate at Sunshine Seasons and headed to World Showcase which we visited rather hurridly.

In my opinion, Mexico is one of the most beautiful pavillons at the park ( I really love the Morroco theming also) and we spent a lot of time in there.

We finnished off the day watching Illuminations from a bad spot and I did not enjoy it at all because by this time my daughter had decided she had had enough and just wanted to be out of there.
I guess it was too much for a 14 month old. I mean, you get up in freezing Montreal and end up your day under fireworks in Florida. :confused3 Not mentioning the fact that we had spent the night before at the hospital suspecting she was getting dehidration from a bad diarrhea. And nope. We did not tell the doctor we had a trip planned to WDW the very next day. :rolleyes1
After a big day like that, we still had to check in our hotel (it was in Orlando somewhere), umpack and get ready for the days to come.

Planning for May, 24th, 2010
It turns out I need a little help planning our day at Animal Kingdom. My experience in that park is very limited but I already have a great idea of what I want and what I don't want to do.
We dedicated half a day to Animal Kingdom in Jan. 2009 but this time I want to do it "right". :laughing:
So we are planning to get there at 8 am to take advantage of the morning EMH and hopefully not leave the park too late.
So here's our strategy. Please tell me what you think.
1- Expedition Everest first thing in the morning;
2- It's tough to be a bug;
3- Get FP for K. Safari;
4- Pangani Forest;
5- Wildlife Express train to visit Affection Section. Ride train back;
6- Ride K. Safari using FP;
7- Lunch at Flame Tree BBQ (St. Louis ribs anyone?);
8- Festival of the Lion King;
9- take pictures at Camp Minnie-Mickey;
10- Finding Nemo- the musical (an ABSOLUTE must- do since we missed it last time);
11- Flights of Wonder (NOT a must -do);
12- Playtime at the Boneyard.
So...what do you think? Doable? Will that take us the whole day? Or would we be able to do it all before the parade at 3h45? We are totally Ok missing out on Dinosaur, Kali Rapids and Pimeval Whirl. We want to focus on the attraction that will make Beatriz happy.
We will have super at BOMA that night and our reservation is for 20h00. Ideally we would go back to our hotel and "relax" before super but we are willing to stay at the park the whole day if that's what it takes to get everything done in a moderate pace.
As for my snack credit, I am seriously considering using it with an ice cream cookie sandwich at Dino Bites sometime in the afternoon.

Don't you start drooling just looking at it???

I'm so excited for my DD to see Festival of the Lion King and Nemo when we go to AK! I'm not sure what day we'll be there yet, but those are musts for us!
And I really enjoyed Flights of Wonder. If you have time you should definitely see it.

Thanks a lot! I'm not drooling but I did start licking my screen. :lmao:
I think your AK plan looks good but here are a few comments anyway.
1. Expedition Everest will be busy so doing it first makes sense.
2. I would save It's Tough to Be a Bug till later in the day. It is a nice air conditioned break and the line never really gets very long. Also, put DD in your lap. Some kids get scared of the show.
4. You will be back tracking a bit. The Majaranha (I know I spelled that wrong) Trail is close to the Safari ride but it's not open during early EMH.
8. Festival of the Lion King is my favorite!
I don't think your missing much in Dinosaur, Primevil Whirl and Kali River Rapids. But are you not interested in Triceratops Spin? It's like a Dinosaur version of Dumbo. The line is about 30-40 minutes during the peak part of the day.
You could do this:
1- Expedition Everest first thing in the morning;
2- Send one person to get FP for K. Safari.
3- Pangani Trail - By then extra magic hour should be over.
4- Triceratops Spin
5- Wildlife Express train to visit Affection Section. Ride train back;
6- Ride K. Safari using FP;
7- Lunch at Flame Tree BBQ (St. Louis ribs anyone?);
8- Festival of the Lion King;
9- take pictures at Camp Minnie-Mickey;
10- It's Tough to Be a Bug

I think these plans look good! Have you looked at the touring plans in the UG or TGM? I've used the UG before with great success.
I'm so excited for my DD to see Festival of the Lion King and Nemo when we go to AK! I'm not sure what day we'll be there yet, but those are musts for us!
And I really enjoyed Flights of Wonder. If you have time you should definitely see it.
Thanks for the tip on Flights of Wonder. We will make an effort to see it. It is hard to plan with much certainty when you do not have the schedule for the shows but I am hoping we can fit it all in one day.
And I am sure your daughter will love the Festival of the Lion King. It brought tears to my eyes when I saw it last year.
1- Expedition Everest first thing in the morning;
2- Send one person to get FP for K. Safari.
3- Pangani Trail - By then extra magic hour should be over.
4- Triceratops Spin
5- Wildlife Express train to visit Affection Section. Ride train back;
6- Ride K. Safari using FP;
7- Lunch at Flame Tree BBQ (St. Louis ribs anyone?);
8- Festival of the Lion King;
9- take pictures at Camp Minnie-Mickey;
10- It's Tough to Be a Bug
11- Finding Nemo- the musical (an ABSOLUTE must- do since we missed it last time); or It's Tough t
12- Flights of Wonder (NOT a must -do);
13- Playtime at the Boneyard.
Thank for all the helpful tips. :thumbsup2I took note of everything. It is shaping up to be a wonderful day at Animal Kingdom. It is actually one of the days I am most excited about since I do not know much about it. Cannot wait to explore it more this time around.
How did I ever miss one of those? I may not even share......:rolleyes1

I think your Epcot and AK plans look great! We had an AK day that was very similar to that last fall and we finished up around 3 pm. (I think) We didn't go to the Affection Section, but we did ride Kali and Dinosaur, and we rode EE multiple times.

Hi Q! We never have trouble doing what we want to accomplish in AK. We do our number 1 and 2 just the opposite of what you've written. We usually do the safari first but I send Joe over to EE to get fastpasses while the girls and I are heading over to the safari. By the time we get to the safari he isn't far behind us. We do the safari together then head over to EE. We usually have both done pretty quickly. The rest of the day we do Nemo, FOTLK, ITTBAB, etc. Historically, during this week the other attractions don't usually have a lot of wait times. Luckily we went to AK on the first day of our trip last year and we didn't have the rain Becky did. It was the only park we did without downpours. I'm hoping the weather is similar to 2008 & before. I have sunny days in mind also!

So to finish off our Animal Kingdom topic I will post the pictures from our last trip .
http://images.orkut.com/orkut/photos/OgAAAJ-KaVIn0vpzOza7ndT9wROQdy4ICec10GV-UUqtwOumlXChwoYYRY2fEmEZvNT7w5YPPZqYyfWJyJv-rAL2foYAm1T1UHAxlB1zZGUEzOsNpo77RVi75Z1H.jpg
We visited AK on Feb. 1st 2009 which happened to be the day of the Super Bowl. ;) The park closed at 5pm so we headed straight to downtown Disney where my husband watched the game at Planet Hollywood while I walked around.
We were talking about our last year's trip to AK this morning over breakfast since today is Superbowl Sunday 2010. popcorn::
http://images.orkut.com/orkut/photos/OgAAAGj_ElqjRpRCx8cat5gaNMsBnAphwnQ6ZBDLhHRxWxylg4 3l9-IUs4qFJu2tNn2eZ3UXmI1JlW3GhCk0o-tT6EsAm1T1UC10rAqORwQ_DPhkwp1rKlgPPDM0.jpg
So we did not get to see everything we wanted last time because the daughter of our friends (the ones that actually invited us to join them on their trip) had eaten something that did not agree with her and she threw up three different times while we were at the park. :(
So between all the trips to the restroom, change of clothes and discussing if we should just get back to the hotel, there are some attractions that ended up being left out ( like Nemo, for example).
But I think we did manage to see all the other main ones. We did Expedition Everest, Dinosaur, It's tough to be a bug, K. Safari and Festival of the Lion King. We had lunch at Pizzafari and we also saw the parade and did some shopping. It was at AK that I got my Crocs. :thumbsup2

Your AK itinerary sounds great also. We are visiting AK at a day with a morning EMH and the plan is to get there early to do the big rides as soon as possible. I just don`t think they give FP`s during EMH, do they? :confused3 Hopefully it won`t be too crowded (I saw somewhere that it is supposed to be a moderate plus week for the crowds) and we are able to accomplish everything without getting agravated. :crowded:
As for the rain I am willing to start learning a "no rain dance" if anybody knows any. :laughing:

I'm not sure on the fastpasses during EMH, never had to have one during EMH so I've never looked. :confused3 We've gone the week before Memorial Day 4 times now and it is definitely manageable-wherever you saw that it was moderate plus is accurate. That week is good for us because most schools are still in session and the weather is nice.:cool1: The week of Memorial Day though is ..:scared1: We did that in 2006...Yikes! I use touringplans.com to decide what parks we're going to visit on which days for the most part. They are predicting about the same.

Sorry I have been neglecting my journal. Busy, busy, busy. Ever since we came back from Brazil (which is like a month ago) we have been spending our weekends trying to catch up with friends and projects that have been in the back burner for a while but.... the Disney planning moves forward in full force! :cool1:
This week I had to go to the Dollar store to grab some stuff for work and I ended up getting a yellow Winnie the Pooh child rain poncho for Beatriz. It looks really cute and it only coasted $1.50. I am hoping we won't have to use it but we are prepared if it does rain.
I also got some glow sticks to use at the parks ar night. Does anybody know if we are allowed to bring our own? I do not see a problem with that but... you never know. :confused3
And also at a recent trip to WalMart Beatriz got a couple of Disney T-shirts to get her in the mood. We keep telling her she is going to Disney but I am not sure she fully understands.
Anyways, gotta go now.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Can you believe we are only three months away from our trip?? We are building up a lot of antecipation here at home and it just cannot come soon enough for us. ;)
So on the 4th day of our trip, on Tuesday May, 25th 2010, we are going to visit Disney Hollywood Studios!! :teeth:
As I said before the focus of this trip will be really on Beatriz and, since my sister will be gone by then, we might just skip all the rides with a height requirement.
MUST Do's:
Toy Story Mania----> hopefully more than once;
Block Party Bash;
Indiana Jones (it was closed last year and my husband never saw it);
Muppets;
Play house;
Beauty and the Beast;
Little Mermaid;
Backlot Tour;
Great Movie Ride
Magic of Disney Animation;
Playtime at Honey I shrunk the Kids playground.
If there is any time left I would like to ride Aerosmith with a swop pass but it is ok if I don't.
The rest of the time we will probably spend hunting for characters and getting our autograph book signed.
As much as my daughter likes to watch princesses movies I have to admit she's been TOTALLY into Toy Story right now. She is completely in love with Woody and Buzz and has chosen to watch Toy Story over Beauty and the Beast which has always been her all- time favorite. I am not surprised since I find it matches her character so I am really looking forward to going to Pixar Place. She will FREAK OUT when she sees the characters over there.:rotfl: I cannot wait.
For our lunch I have recently changed my mind and decided I want to try Starring Rolls instead of Pizza Planet (we might still go to Pizza Planet to check it out but not to eat in there). I saw some pictures of the sandwiches and the desserts they serve at Starring Rolls and if they taste as good as they look I am sure we will have a blast.:thumbsup2
At 17h30 we have reservations for super at Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club Resort so we will actually leave the park, ride the boat to the BCR and then head back to DHS for Fantasmic which is scheduled for 9pm. :smickey:
We have friends who ate at Cape May on their honeymoon and highly recommended it to us. And since we are sea food lovers I don't think we will regret the decision of leaving the park for a couple of hours. AND we will get to explore the Beach and Yatch Club resort a bit. :cool2:
So that's it! Am I missing anything? Is there anything else I should know about the Studios? Any special treats I don't know about? Let me know...

Is it May yet? :lmao:
Today I watched the movie UP for the first time. popcorn:: I mean I had watched it a bit in the plane on our last trip to Brazil but, seriously, how much can you remember from a movie you watch when you are half asleep and your arms are numb from holding your two year old who refuses to sleep on her own seat? :confused3
Anyways, I loved the movie!!!!!! :lovestrucThe love story of Carl and Ellie is so touching and cute and it made me want to cry. I love the idea of growing old with my husband and building memories together but we have to admit that getting old really sucks and when we see some older folks acting "cranky" we do not always sympathize the way we should.
Anyways, I loved everything about it. Don't we all wish we could move to Paradise Falls? Apparently Carl and Russle can be found at the Hollywood studios for pictures and autographs and I will be certainly looking for them.
This week my daugther also watched Monsters Inc. for the first time and it was quite interesting to watch her watching Boo. I guess she identified herself with the little girl and it was really cute... :confused3
AND to wrap up the week we finally bought a new car. I suffer from major backaches and loading and unloading Beatriz from the car was getting increasingly difficult so we decided to get rid of it (the car, not Beatriz) and get a small truck. I am happy with our decision. We'll have more space now and my husband already suggested something about having the room for a second child. :rolleyes1 I pretended I didn't get the joke. :laughing: No babies before DisneyWorld....:rolleyes:

Hi Q!
Sorry I've been gone from your PTR for a while...things have been crazy! Let me see if I remember everything I wanted to comment on.
First of all, there isn't a problem at all with you taking your own "glow stuff" into the park. So no need to worry there!
I'm so happy that you're going to Starring Rolls now!!! As you probably remember from my TR, it is AMAZING! And also note that you can go back throughout the day and pick up a bagel or dessert as a snack credit. Yum.
At DHS, be sure to get to the shows early. We did this, and we got amazing seats!! And I don't know how well Beatriz reacts to loud noises, but Fantasmic might be a little scary for her. I know a lot of people love it, and your family might be able to handle it, but we weren't fans.
Isn't UP the cutest?! We just loved it. I cried 3 times at the theater when I saw it. And we bought it as soon as it came out. SUCH a sweet story. And I laughed when I read your husband's truck comment. ;)

And I was drooling when I saw the picture of the ice cream sandwich. YUM!
How are you liking your new truck? I realized that after I got my van 3 years ago, there's nothing like having a vehicle that you like and feel safe in. Even though it's been 3 years, the van still feels like it's new to me.
Cant' wait to read more!

Hello and welcome to my journal! Have you guys started the countdown for May 22nd at your place already ?
Yay! I finally read through your report so far! Looks like you've got some great plans! We'll be at AK on the 24th and MK on the 27 also! Maybe we'll run into each other.
Hello and welcome! So we will be at Animal Kingdom at the same time? That is so cool. I will be on the look out for fellow Disers.
That ice cream cookie sandwich sure looks amazing. My husband always talks about it and how much he will have one just for himself. No sharing. Oh well... who could blame him?
I relly love our truck. I just recently told my husband how I think I will never be back to owning a small car. We do feel safe in it and we cannot wait to go camping with it this Summer.
Hi Q!
And I laughed when I read your husband's truck comment. ;)
Hi Staci-
We are sooooo looking forward to eating at Starring Rolls. I have heard we need to get there early though `cause they just run out of sandwiches. Is that true?
I saw Fantasmic once at Disneyland and I liked it a lot. Last year we visited Hollywood Studios in a day with no show so we are going to try our best not to miss it this time. I am not too sure of how Beatriz is going to react to it but I am guessing she should be ok.
And the more I watch UP the more I fall in love with it.
Make sure to get to Fantasmic early (like an hour early :scared1:). Starring Rolls is great but I think there is only outdoor seating. It is shaded though.
Also, I heard that the UP characters will be replaced with Toy Story 3 characters in early May. :mad: I hope that's not the case but I wanted to warn you. The Monsters Inc characters are at HS though!
Less than 3 months!!!!
The plan is to eat at Cape May Cafe and go back to the park straight to get seats at Fantasmic. Hopefully around one hour before the show should be enough time....
And I really hope those rumors about the UP characters being replaced are NOT true. Toy Story won`t come out until the middle of June so maybe Russle and Carl will still be aroubd in May... I am not going to lie I will be disappointed if we do not get to meet them.
I'm glad you liked Up! I am still to scared to watch it since I know I will be :sad2: I tried to get my girls to watch Monsters Inc-they were :scared1: and made me turn it off:rolleyes1 Yay for the new truck! I have a mini van and it sure is easy
The first time my daughter watched Monsters Inc. she was also a bit scared but I tried it again a couple of months later and she loved it so... you never know. I say give it another try.
Yay for a new truck! LOL at your hubby's comment.
That's so cute about your DD and Boo! We watched Monster's Inc the other day, too. I love the movie Up! I'm sad to hear that the characters may be going away. :(
That would really suck if the characters are gone by the time we get to visit, wouldn`t it?

We ate pretty early every day for lunch (we were at Starring Rolls around 11:30). They had plenty of sandwiches when we were there, but I don't know how it was later in the day... I hope you're able to see Fantasmic!! My parents loved it at Disneyland too. :thumbsup2

So to wrap up the Hollywood Studios subject I will post my favorite pictures of our last visit in Feb. 2009. It was a cold, windy day at WDW so we spent most of our time indoors. :sad2:
We had a turkey leg for lunch which I wouldn't mind having again at some point during our next visit. Just not sure if I will be hungry enough for that after eating everything else I am planning on eating this time around! :lmao:

What a beautiful sunny day we are having here in Montreal ! :cool1:
This afternoon we were seating in our balcony outside day dreaming about all the wonderful things we are going to do once we get to Disney. :goodvibes I am specially starting to dream about that water play ground from Kidani Village. Beatriz will have a blast. Yesterday I was putting some sun block on her face and she asked me if we were going to the beach. Poor little baby.
This week my sister confirmed that she and her husband will be really joining us for part of our trip. They made their reservation to stay at the Pop Century hotel and we will do two parks together. :woohoo:
I CANNOT WAIT to see my sister. It's been over two years now and it is two years too long. I am so happy we will have this reunion at DisneyWorld. It is the perfect place to create beautiful memories. I know those days together will pass way too fast.
I also took out some of the outfits I was hoping Beatriz was going to wear during our trip. It turns out she is very much on the small size my little one. She is 28 months old but still wears some stuff for 18 month old babies so some of the dresses I was hoping she would wear are still way too big. :(
Oh well... I guess I will have to go shopping for her. Please twist my arm, will you? :laughing:
One of my best friends in the world just booked a last minute trip to WDW a couple of weeks ago. They will be going on April, 25th and I had a BLAST helping her to pick a hotel, to plan her days and her meals. I swear I could do this for a living and enjoy every minute of it. Haha!
As for me I recently got a new hair cut and a new hair color I am very excited about. I am loving to be a red hair! :love:
Well, I guess that is all for now. I will come back later with our plans for the remaining days of our trip.
Have a great long weekend everyone.

Planning for Wednsdey, May, 26th, 2010
So Wednesday is supposed to be our day off. :goodvibes That means not setting the alarm for that morning and just going with the flow, you know, pretending we are on vacation... :lmao:
I guess the activities of the day will depend on the weather. If it is a beautiful, sunny day we are going to try to relax at pool of the hotel as much as we can. I want to cross to the Kidani village and try the kiddie water play area with my daughter. I've seen some videos at Youtube and it looks AMAZING!
As for the meals ... well we will either have lunch at Mara or take a trip to Downtown Disney. I have heard Earl of Sandwich offers some yummy stuff and I am dying to visit the new D- street. I was also thinking of maybe doing a personalized t-shirt for Beatriz and, of course, checking out Goffy's Candy Shop.
Anything else I shouldn't miss at DTD? I was reading about Flights of Wonder and wondering (no pun intended) if it is really worth the 15$. :eek:
Then it is back to our hotel to get ready for our super at Sanaa. We love ethnic food at our house and I am really looking forward to this one. I was thinking of making it our "special night", you know, dressing up and enjoying a beautiful, relaxed meal together as a family. A pause in the middle of the week to count our blessings. :cloud9:
After super I am not sure of what we are going to do. Go back to DTD? I also want to try some of the activities offered at the Jambo House since we are staying in such a wonderful hotel. I guess I will have to check the itinerary at our hotel and see if there's anything interesting going on. Checking the animals with the nigt vision goggles sounds like a fun option. :3dglasses
So there you have it. Does anyone have suggestiond of interesting things to do that do not involve going to the parks?:confused:

As I had mentioned before some of the stuff I was hoping Beatriz was going to wear during our trip don't quite fit her yet so this week we took a little tyrip to the local Children's Place and got her two new outfits. They are really cute and I hope they will be weather appropriate. :)

Thos outfits for Beatriz are so adorable! I'm sure they will be weather appropriate.

I agree! We want to minimize as much as possible the running around on our day off so we can have a truly relaxing day. That is the main reason why we chose to eat at Sanaa also. And I've heard the food is yummy too! ;)

Oh boy, it's been a while.... As usual we have been quite busy here and besides I have so much fun reading everybody elses's journal that I barely have the time to keep up with my own. :confused:
On to what's new...
My best friend is at Disney right now. I am so jealous! :laughing:Before she left we offered them a special super and we talked Disney the whole night!! Can't get tired of it. :rolleyes1 She is there with her husband and they are celebrating their anniversary so we sent them a gift certificate that was delivered at their room. Just hoping it was a magical moment for them.... :wizard:
We also had my in laws over one of these days and my MIL offered to fix Beatriz' Snow White costume for me. I was planning to have her wearing it at our super at Akershus but had changed my mind because it didn't fit her nicely. Now I am happy we will be able to go on with the original plan. :cheer2:
Hmmm... what else... oh yeah... the arrival time of our flight has changed and now we are getting in Orlando one hour later. :eek: Am I overreacting or does it really SUCK we will have one less hour at Disneywhorld? :confused3 And apparently the characters from UP will be retiring by May, 1st and we will miss them by a couple of weeks. I got pretty bummed about that. We were looking forward to a picture with Doug and Russle. :guilty:
On the brighter side, last weekend Beatriz and I made our countdown calendar and I am getting a kick out of it every morning :goodvibes. Even more so than she is. I will try to take some pictures of it tonight and post them here later.
Have a great weekend everybody!:lovestruc

So once upon a time this trip seemed like a far away dream and now it is only 10 days away.:cool1: So much still to do. So little time.
Work has been CRAZY since a coworker resigned and we still do not have a replacement for her. Let's just say I have been wearing many different hats lately... :wizard:
Before I go any further I will post the pictures of the countdown calendar I made with Beatriz. We did it together on the week of our 30- day mark, I took the pictures a couple of days later but just now I was able to upload them. Yep... I am THAT slow. :lmao:
I bought all the material at a Bureau en Gros and it coasted me less than 5$. Beatriz had a lot of fun "helping" me cut the Mickey heads and sticking the letters on the board. She was actually just making a big mess but it kept her busy while I was doing the real work. ;)
At first I did not really think she was going to understand what it was all about but now I actually believe she does.
Every morning when we add another head to the board I ask her where we are going soon and she answers: Disneyworld! And then when I ask her who she is going to see over there she gives me an endless list which starts with my sister and ends in Buzz Lightyear passing through Mickey, Pluto, Mike and Sully, Cinderela etc. etc.:rotfl:

I wish I could write more but I am really, really sleepy right now. I will try to come back soon with the pictures of our weekend getaway in NYC and the knee injury that might just interfere with our trip. :(
In the mean time I have to say this: GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh wow! Are we really only one week away from our trip? I can hardly believe it!
I wish I did not have to work all week because my mind is already at Disney. Only three days of work separate me from my vacation and something is telling me they are going to be looooong ones. :)
Last weekend Joey and I went on a quick weekend trip to NYC. It was the very first time we ever left Beatriz behind. My in-laws baby- sat her here in our house and apparently she behaved very, very well. Me? Not so much. I missed her terribly. BUT it did made me feel better to know she was having a blast back home with her grandparents.
Joey and I went to NYC for a "A-ha" concert. Do you remember A-ha? I am sure you do.Their biggest hit in America was "Take on Me" but they have tons of other great songs. We had a great time. :) I love going to concerts where I can jump and sing along from the top of my lungs. ;)
We also went to "Carlo's Bakery" in New Jersey to have some Italian canoles. If you watch "The Cake Boss" show on TLC you must know what I am talking about. The visit to the pastry shop was very entertaining and the pastry is really to die for.
The only problem is with all the walking and standing on my feet I did during the weekend, I ended up injuring my right knee and have been having a hard time going up and down the stairs in my house. I have been taking some Ibuprofen hoping everything will be back to normal by the time we hit the parks. I am used to my back problems already but please not my knees. :(
My sister is a phisiotherapist and I am looking forward more than ever to see her next Saturday. It will be good to have a "professional" taking a look at whatever happened to my poor knee.
Anyways, I packed Beatriz suitcase last night and I even wrote down all the outfits and the days they are supposed to be worn so there's no confusion by the time we get there. She will be one cute princess I tell you.
I guess that's it. One suitcase down. Two more to go.
I hope everyone will get a great week.
