Is it 10 nights in dlp would you not consider wdw if you planning in spending that much. I though you can only get hb if you staying on-site weather you book with disney or not.

Cant really convince you to say off-site because i cant even convince myself:lmao: We only go for 4 nights and for now on it will be 3 as i find dat more than enough:rotfl2:

Crazy as it sounds i'm putting WDW off till my 30th, this trip will be our last trip to DLRP while i save up for WDW.

I know I can't get HB vouchers for not staying in a Disney hotel but wanted to know if im still unable to pre-pay for the Auberge etc (its all bout the free photo :lmao:)

::yes:: Have you looked into how much WDW would cost? i know this year they are offering free dining from July - November which believe me is really worth having, you eat like kings :rotfl2:
I think i would rather save the money i would spend for staying 10 nights in DLP and put it towards WDW. Or failing that do a short 2 night stay or something to DLP which wouldn't cost nowhere near as much.

DD really wants to go DLRP for her 6th Birthday, and wants to go for a loooong time (those are her words :rotfl2:)

Also WDW is still alot of money for me and DD because I have to pay for her as a adult due to room occupancy so it still works out very expensive. I'm looking at just under 3K for 2 weeks to WDW. And thats with DIY and booking via Disney and no spending money while DLRP would be just over £1000 with spending for 10 days.

I also want to get in one last DLRP trip before i start saving for WDW.

In that case then i would definately stay offsite, like you said you only sleep there after all.:thumbsup2

I have been pricing up another solo trip for March and at the moment it's a toss up between the Kyriad and Santa Fe again, not much difference in price between them.

How long you planning on going for in March?

Either 1 or 2 nights, not made my mind up yet lol.

When i did 1 night just before Christmas i thought there would be loads i wouldn't get done but in fact 1 night 2 days was ample to do what i wanted to do.

Ya i know i understand, I know its a lot alright, we are more than likely going to go to wdw for oct mid-term free dinning:cool1: The way i see it it will cost me less than 2 mini-breaks (dlp in 09) and a wk in spain in august what we normaly do. Only catch is we wont be abroad for a whole 12mth (oct 09 oz trip - oct 10 wdw trip) dont know if i can do it since we were away 4 times last yr. Do im sure it will be well worth it:)

I would suggest WDW too, but if your sure on DLRP I would stay offsite.

Have you thought about the Hotel Elyssee? Stayed there in 2006, and its a nice 3* hotel, as well as the free buses its only one train stop away and is located in Val D'Europe, where food is a lot cheaper (and often a lot nicer :rotfl:).

I looked at that hotel aswell and thats 2nd on my list, also I wouldn't need Dream Ap's if i stayed there as i will get EMH entry for just staying there :thumbsup2

I'm really interested in exploring outside DLRP this time around, visit sealife centre etc.

How often do buses run to and from the Elyssee?

I think if we were ever to stay off-site we would prob stay there it looks really nice from the outside, and its just across the street from the shopping centre:cool1: we ate in the italian in june and it was really nice and half the price of dlp but twice as nice:thumbsup2.

The sealife isnt that great tbh its very small, but i guess worth a look maybe since your going to be there so long.

I think it depends on the season - they used to have a timetable on their website but I cant find it? The trains run every 10 mins until late at night though :thumbsup2

I think its a great location for exploring, because you have the train station opposite the hotel its easier than the Disney hotels!

Wow 10 nights??!!
I'll be another recommending a trip to WDW if you plan for that long and in all honesty prices won't be an awful lot more.

We've been for about that long but that was 5 night in Paris and 5 nights in DLRP, but I'm not sure that'd be great for you with your daughter.

I don't think I could go for 10 nights tho, as bad as this sounds (and I do love DLRP, having just got back from my 10th trip there yesterday!!) I think I would get bored for that long - I just don't think there's enough to do there for so long (flame suit on here :lmao:)

Have fun planning whatever you decide to do :)

:thumbsup2 Then I say go for it!! Even tho Disneyland Park was open til 10pm each night of our trip (well, 1am on New Years Eve) we didn't once stay til closing, although I think that may have been more down to the extreme cold that we put up with, and we were both feeling a bit ill (in fact the earliest we got to a park on any day we were there was 10:30am!!!).

I'd definitely stay offsite tho as prices would really rack up for that long!!

10 days is too long for Paris IMHO. You'd be doing things again and again.

And, surely 8 days is too long to take a child out of school for. One or two days maybe but 8 days (assuming the 10 days includes a weekend) is a bit much.

People take there kids out of school for more than 8 days.

You may feel that its too long but as someone who loves DLP as much as me and my DD we would never get bored, if we got bored we wouldnt of been 8 times in 18 months.

This is probably "stating the obvious" to you Emma, but just in case - whatever you choose to do, make sure you apply and receive approval for taking DD out of school before booking - DLP's beloved cancellation policy would mean you'd lose out on a reasonable amount of money if you booked the trip and then her school said no...

Yes, children are taken out of school for longer.

However, what do you want for YOUR child? A good education is priceless and the early days in school are as important as the days just ahead of exams for both the social and academic development of children.

Enjoy your holiday!

See I agree and I disagree.
I know what you mean about not getting bored having been so much, but it's 10 straight days there, not a few days at a time.

As I said, if you don't think you'd get bored then go for it, just personally I agree with Steve above, there really isn't enough to "do" for 10 days there, at least IMO anyway, but then I think I've been spoilt by rediscovering Orlando (went a lot as a kid, then for the first time as an adult in 2007 before getting married there in 2008) although I do always feel like I'm cheating on my first love by going there instead of to DLRP (where DW and I went on our first holiday together :) )

I'm not silly I do know these things, I have always requested permission to take DD out of school/ pre-school via the head of her school. She is allowed 10 days holiday per school year if attendance is above 90%.

Anyway I didn't post this thread to ask if I should take my DD to DLRP for 10 days or if 10 days is too long, I only asked advice about staying offsite.

ok im with emma on this one all of my trips are for six nights and i dont get bored. we both have small children and they love their trips to the magic. i could easily spend ten days there with ash, doing things over is not a problem for us.

emma you know kyra is well adjusted to her school by now if you want to take her out then do it. its your own business and not a topic for debate imho.

Threads lose focus all the time, don't take it as anyone having a go :)

We have only ever stayed offsite once, when we stayed in what was the Holiday Inn in Bussy St. George where we stayed for 2 nights before booking into Newport Bay.

It was a 5 minute train ride from the hotel to DLRP, and was about 2 Euros each way I think :)

We found Bussy dead easy, the only people there are usually those going to DLRP, and our hotel was a two minute walk from the train station.
HOWEVER, there really is nothing in Bussy, so Val D'Europe would be a much better bet with stuff to do.
Also, Bussy was so empty at time we felt a bit unnerved - not scared necesarily, just kinda freaked out when we were the only people walking around the town :lmao:

our school allwos 10 days holiday too. yes, all holiday has to be authorised, and is at heads discretion, but as yet ive never heard of a head refusing.

and, imo as i thought id stick my nose in, i think it would be a good thing. emma, u already said that u would be looking at doing a few other things as well, and at 6 yrs, kyra will be interested in learning the language and trying it out - which is what ds1 was like when we went at easter. i think that kyra wud love to learn bits, and practise french, whether in or our of dlrp and i think that the school wud see it as 'widening horizons'.

cant help re hotels, as i love cheyenne, but am interested in reading more about the offsite ones for if/when we go again lol

as for us going back................ nope no ideas yet. still wud like to go for halloween, but think we wud have to go before 18th so we can get the free child under 7 lol after reading ppl talkin bout usa, did price that up...:scared1: £3k for us all - and that was only a week!!!!!!!!!! so expesive - but then, i was doing it all thru the site - so guess there are cheaper ways.... but dont think they do all the mnsshp as dlp do they?? so, basically, as yet, we have no hols planned for this yr - but i remain hopeful!!

For the past two summers we have spent 10 days in DLP (one day each time going into Paris) and there is no way we have ever been bored. It means we can take our time (queues are normally longer during the summer months), enjoy the hotel, go for a swim, Val D'Europe etc., Granted my children are working now and not in school but plenty of parents rightly or wrongly take their children out of school for two weeks (10 days of school), it's something I've only ever done once when we first went to DLP and it never did any harm at all and I checked with their teachers beforehand.
This year we are undecided between another summer 10 day trip or a November 10 day trip to take in the Christmas season.

I was going to get her that Muzzy thingy but its so expensive, I'm hoping that they do a bit of French in Reception class when she starts in September.

Unless i can find someone to come WDW with me the price will always be huge due to DD having to go as a adult in the room. They do more MNNSHP then they do at DLP and they are tons better. The Halloween theming is 1000x better then DLP, well thats my opinion anyway lol.

But DD wants to go DLRP for her 6th Birthday so who am i to tell her no :lmao:

Never, EVER bored! Lols - 10 days is a lovely time for us, we like to wander around just taking in the theming, soak up the atomosphere, going on our favourite rides time and time again (and never getting fed up) - trying out new rides (well me mainly, actually did Indiana Jones this past time!) We've also enjoyed going into Paris and doing the usual site seeing there as well as Val D'Europe a couple of times - anything less than 10 days and we'd feel we were missing out!
I say 'go for it' before SATS and GCSE's come into the equation (believe me that will soon come round once 'big' school starts!!), and have a wonderful time! 10 days out of school is not going to make or break your daughters education, believe me!

To go back to your original query - I have stayed off site at Kyriad, Explorers and Magic Circus (was Holiday Inn) and would quite happily stay at either again.

The pool at explorers is fantastic for children and if you are going for so long it would be nice to have a pool to enjoy as an escape from the parks for a while. Explorers also has a good indoor play area (ball pond etc) to give kyra chance to bounce off some energy if needed

The buses have always been fine and have run til about midnight i think

Im sure you cant book any prepaid meals etc through disney if you havent booked the holiday with them but you can definitely book mnsshp tickets

I think I could do 10 days without getting bored, have done a week and not managed to even find time for the swimming pool and despite having bought tickets for SeaLife we decided not to go, couldn't bare to be away from the park, while it was open.
Maybe a 10 days hol is what I need to fit everything in, can't see my OH agreeing to it though. ;)
My opinion for what its' worth - I don't believe at Kyra's education will be too damaged by the time off.

We've done 10 days at DLRP before and we didn't get bored either. If you're going for that long it would be worth you buying APs so you'd get EMH. :thumbsup2 We only got back today from 17 days in WDW and my girls were saying on the plane home how much they miss the close proximity of the parks at DLRP and being able to walk between the two within less than 5 minutes.

You know DLRP so well by now that you know you won't get bored and then you'll have the fun of planning WDW for your 30th when Kyra will be older so will have much more stamina for there.

Check out Benotel's rates for the Explorers (link in Hotel FAQ) if you do decide to stay offsite ~ when we went in October 2007 they had unbelievable rates even during the school half-term, they were half the price that Expedia (and Explorers themselves) were charging.

Happy planning! :wizard: :wizard:

oh 10 days sounds great! esp with a 6 year old! you can do every little thing, go for walks around park etc, it would be lovely!

i looked into the whole hotel outside and ap's thing, the site i found cheapest for hotel bookings outside..without tickets... was benetol... i got explorers really really cheap on the dates i wanted.. but of corse with free dining, i changed my plans anyway! haha.

at 6 she wont have sats etc, so i dont see any problem with 10 days off... esp if she already has a good attendance. apart from which, i have always thought home education in any form to be a good thing, and she weill learn plenty from her holiday also.. she is only going to be 6!! haha, its fine! happy planning!

We've stayed at the Kyriad, really loved it and wouldn't hesitate to go back again. Not sure what time the buses finish at night but we were able to watch the fireworks, go round the Disney village and still get the bus back at night, in the summer, so I guess they must run quite late. From memory I think we were the first drop off too which was good.

Although you don't get the characters there it still has a small Disney shop and still felt part of being with Disney.

I'm sure it will be fine, going by Kyra's school policy on authorised absence Emma.
Just thought I'd mention though, that year 2 is usually a SATs year in English schools (unless they abolish it by then of course). My daughter's school has a policy of not allowing authorised absence in SATs years, but only in the term when they are actually doing the SATs (ie after the Easter hols and up until May half term). At all other times, they have a blanket policy of allowing, with no question, up to 10 days authorised absence per school year.

Kyra will be just starting in Year 1 Elaine, so I don't think they have any exams that year.

We went for 9 nights in 2008 and went to the park every day, didn't get bored. We stayed at Davy Crockett, so had a swimming pool which was great so i would stay at either Explorers, Magic Circus or Dream Castle, if you both like swimming!

It was great not feeling we had to rush to the park for opening time every day because we had plenty of time to do everything.

No, they don't. My youngest is in Yr 1 and we're taking them all out next week for the whole week. My children's school is happy for them to have a week out, the only time they refuse requests is if they are years 2,5 or 6 and even then only during May which is SATS. In fact, as long as the children are doing well at school they are pleased if they get to go and do other stuff, we will take ours into Paris and do some educational stuff, last time we went we took them to the Louvre to see the Venus de Milo and Mona Lisa amongst other stuff. After 5 years of regular trips to France (not just DLP) all of mine are more fluent in French than I am, and miles ahead of their peers in languages.

Just ignore those that get snippy about you taking your DD out of school, she's like a sponge at her age and will just soak up so much while she's away.

Babes, I'd cut it down to like 3 nights and have the extra ££ towards WDW. 10 jsut seems way too long for me to stay at DLRP. Then you're only looking at a couple of hundred pounds and you can really add to your WDW ££. :)

A couple of hundred? :rotfl2: I wish it was just a couple of hundred, its just under 3K for me to go WDW without spending no matter what way i do the maths.

Anyway I want to go WDW when Fantasyland has been rebuilt and that isnt till 2013.

How close was the train station to where you stayed in Bussy? £169 for 5 nights is fab.
