View Full Version : Anyone else raising "Disney Junkies"?

We have a DS3, just turned 3 about 2 weeks ago. He made his first trip to Disney in October. Before we went, he would watch ZERO TV, and I mean ZERO. (Not that its bad). We stayed at AKL SV Jambo and since we returned he can not get enough of anythink Mickey Mouse! I mean we watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse at least 4 times per day. He now has Mickey Sheets, about 7 pairs of Pajamas, shirts, pants, pretty much anything you name, he has!

Is anyone else raising (and I know on here you are!) such big "Disney Junkies"

That's him with his Bug's Life Glasses!

Definitely! DD6 has been 8 times, and is quite the little Disney expert. Adults use her for vacation advice, I kid you not! DD2 is also quite the little junkie - he asks me to show him the monorail that is at the bottom of Diser's signatures at least a million times a day - LOL!

Our kids love Disney, as we do, and being DVC members does help fuel the fire! Tiger :)

My daughter is so obsessed with being DVC and talked about it so much last year...her teacher wound up joining!!! In fact..I've seen her teacher here on this board!

I am raising 2 DD's that are Disney Junkies. My oldest is already planning her Sweet 16th in Disney. Still 2 years away. i told her if she is serious about going for her birthday then she can bring a friend. My youngest best friend just moved to Iowa and is trying to talk us into meeting them in Disney this year.

Happy to hear that there are others out there like us!

We took our son on his first WDW trip when he was only 4 months old - people thought that we were crazy. He was there 3 times by the time he was a year old. We find WDW such an easy place to be with a little one. That's why we made the decision to buy into DVC right before Christmas. Taking 3 trips a year starts to get expensive!

We are actually watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse right now! Our little one loves the Hot Dog Dance!

Happy watching!:goodvibes

Yes, my two DDs 8 and 12 have been now 15 times and can't wait to go back. They have become quiet the resort snobs though. We just got back last night. We had planned to stay on the road Saturday night coming into WDW, but made good time and went all the way into Orlando. I called and got a room at ASMo for the night. DH and I were reminiscing about that being the first hotel we stayed at, etc. They both were like, "What, here?? Uggg...." We just laughed at them. We stayed at the Dolphin this time on points, but let me tell ya, we missed our one bedrooms!!

My oldest DD loves old Mickey stuff, like Steam Boat Willie and DD 8 is a Tinkerbell junkie. They are already talking about buying points when they get grown to take us.:thumbsup2

Haha!! I have the opposite!! Our 15 yr old DD enjoys our vacations, but DH and I are such "Junkies"....(I am on this website DAILY).... that she thinks we have a serious problem!:rotfl:

Our DS12 however....shares our addiction for the "Mouse" and watches Youtube of Monorails and Splash Mountain daily!!;)

At least we have one Diehard!:thumbsup2!

I am trying to convert both DH and DD but so far they have avoided becoming addicted. :sad2: Oh well, since I "drag" them down every year or two eventually it should happen. Meanwhile they are allowing me to indulge my addiction.

DD made her first trip at 10 months old and now 7 trips later is riding space mountain! She loves it, and stillthinks that unless you're at the mk you're not at Disney. DS is well on his way to being a full blown addict. At 17 months he has been twice and loves the characters. At CP for breakfast he could'nt sit still, it was if his head was on a swivel as he watched "bear" and "tidder".

DD was 7 and DS was 5 on their 1st trip. We have been at least 15 trips with most of those being on pts. DD is 17 now, and though she still enjoys going she doesnt get as excited, but DS is 15 and still gets giddy about it like he is 5 again. I think DD will be that way again when she is a bit older and realizes how much it really affected her life.

We can relate, this morning my 4 year old DD was in her cinderella pajamas playing with her little princess figurines. She was having her dolls get on the bus with snacks to go to their home in Walt Disney World:rotfl2:

I have 2 junkies I am raising. My DS3 asks me to lie in bed with him before he goes to sleep to tell me what he wants to do in WDW, where we should stay, what he is tall enough to ride now, etc. The first thing my DS7 asks me every morning is how many days are left. They are all over this obssession their mommy and to a lesser degree daddy have over WDW.

Oh yes. DS just turned 4 and has been to WDW twice in the last year. He loves it. He was obsessed with Mickey Mouse before he went to Disney, but since going it has become an even bigger obsession. He remembers everything from both trips and will sometimes remind us of something we had forgotten that he saw or that happened there.

We went in September and he has finally stopped asking use if he can go back multiple times a day.

Too bad I can't get DH to like it, but he will tolerate a trip every couple years. So for now I use our DVC to go with friends and DH joins once in a while.

Arthur, that picture of your son is one of the cutest I've seen! Out of my three adult children, my middle child, son, age 28, is the true Disney junkie, and he has turned his wife into one! My kids have been to Disney more times than I can count, starting at age 4. My oldest son, age 30, likes it, but isn't obsessed, and the youngest, my daughter, age 24, loves Disney, but I can't call her a junkie yet either. She actually left our December vacation a few days early so she wouldn't miss her birthday party with friends. Go figure!

My DD12 is my only Disney "junkie," she has read The Unofficial Guide cover to cover, she likes to help decide on ADRs, and other planning. Her three younger brothers could care less, although they like to go to WDW, they have no interest in books or planning.

Our entire family are Disney junkies.DD 12 and DS 11 only talk about Disney trips. They can tell you every hidden Mickey of Splash Mountain as well as the quickest way to Expedition Everest at rope drop. My friends ask if the only place we ever go is Disney because that is all my kids ever talk about. We actually do go on other trips but none are ever talked about like our trips home. Right now the topic of choice is where we will eat our first night there in less than 2 weeks. All I can say the way things are now I am thankful my kids are Disney junkies.:goodvibes

I'm not raising her, but was instrumental in introducing my now 20 year old cousin to WDW when she was 5, I've taken her to WDW over the years and on the 13th of January she enters the Disney College Program. I am so excited for her!

I started taking my boys when they were 4 and ten, every year. It was the greatest place for a single mom to go-no worries and everyone has a great time. Now my oldest son is 34, a DVC member and he takes me. We are going to AK the end of this month with my oldest son, daughter in law, youngest son and 2 year old grandson (his 4th trip). I have truly raised Disney Junkies and proud of it:goodvibes

YES YES YES......our daughter. She is 19 and we took her for her first trip in July 1992. She was 20 months old. She has since been 16 times. SHE LOVES ALL THINGS DISNEY. She has seen the Princess and The Frog two times already and keeps begging me to go with her so she can see it again. She went to see it on opening day while in college. She declared tonight that WE will go to Disney when the new section of Fantasy Land is added. Not sure if that is in 2011 or 2012. If it is 2012 we are going to DL next summer. If not..then I guess we go to DL in 2012 and WDW in 2011. We are going to HHI this summer instead of WDW and she is having withdrawels already. She keeps saying..."Mom I don't think I can make it an entire year without going".

She has a lot of the classic Disney DVD's. She took them with her to college but brought some back and she and her younger brother have been watching them over Christmas break. She wants to work at Disney for DVC when she graduates from college. She knows most of the songs to all the popular Disney movies as well as the characters. She will beat most people when she plays Disney Trivia. She had tons of dress up clothes when she was little for all the Disney princesses. My grandmother even made her some. She has tons of Disney stuffed animals and still collects them. She buys Disney clothes on trips. I would not doubt that she will one day get married there. I could go on and on...but as my dh has told me before I CREATED THIS LOVE FOR DISNEY. :rotfl: Some of her friends GET IT and some don't. She will probably never marry anyone that can't embrace her love for Disney. ;)

I am "guilty" of raising Disney Twin Junkies....We first took the twins when they were 11 months old and they have been hooked ever since...They are always asking to go back. This year for their 8th Birthday all they wanted to go was go to Disney for their Birthday.....Soo cute.

They are turning 8 next month and this will be their 14th trip to Disney. They going to their second home~~Disney World!!

Oh yeah :-) My DD is just over 2 and been to WDW twice already. She loves the Mickey Mouse Club House crew, Winnie and his pals, Tinker Bell, and Toy Story. Her DB 9 months old watches Mickey Mouse club house when he's in the room with her and now all I have to do is sing the theme song to him and he goes nuts.

Yes - my husband and I are Disney junkies - so of course, our daughter is also. She was 10 months old the first time she went to DW. We have so much Mickey Mouse stuff around the house that she was used to seeing him, so she wasn't scared at all. My mother says that is because she must think Mickey Mouse is her brother!

She is almost 5 now and has been 6 times and on 2 Disney Cruises. We can't wait to go back.

Unfortunately, timing never got us to WDW until last summer when our girls were 9 and 2. They love it, don't want to go anywhere else, talk about where we are going to eat, what we are going to ride, where we're going to stay...

My oldest wants to write her own version of WDW travel guide for kids after our trip in June.:rotfl2:

Your son is adorable. Yes, we are raising junkies, too. In particular, our DS13 is obsessed with Disney. He loves talking about the DVC. Plus, he has tons of movies and CDs. He spent ITunes he got for Christmas on Louis Armstrong singing Disney songs. It's great!! His bedroom is decorated (his choice) with Disney posters and sketches he's bought from the parks (or gotten for gifts). He has a cell phone and the ring tone is Disney music as well. He has to wear a uniform for school (and it is a public school) but they simply require a certain color collared shirt so he wears one with a Disney character or the name of a resort as the logo because he is allowed to have a small logo. He also wants to be an Imagineer when he grows up. He wants to take our DGS8 in August so he can turn him into a Disney junkie as well. Our younger grandchildren are already Mickey and Minnie junkies and we hope to make them Disney World junkies next November. We (DH and I) tend to go slightly overboard when it comes to Walt Disney, Disney, and Disney World so we encourage all of the Disney junkie behavior!!

Guilty as charged!

We've been taking our two sons since before they were born. :goodvibes My oldest is 8 and has been 2-3 times a year since he was 9 months old. Whenever we have gone with family he has turned into a mini tour guide. The youngest isn't quite to that point but isn't far behind. :) My two will also find Hidden Mickey's in practically anything and everything. "Look at how those oranges are arranged in the store.... they make a Hidden Mickey", etc.

I've been addicted since before the Mickey Mouse Club (with Annette). We have 6 kids, ages 16 through 37, which have all visited Disneyland, WDW, and Marceline, Missouri to see the inspiration for Main Street USA. We even stood under Walt's "Wishing Tree" and visited the museum where Walt's sister Ruth donated many of her brother's letters and other papers. Our son participated in the CareerStart internship and I went through the Disney Institute's "Keys to the Kingdom" leadership program. Not to mention the numerous books on Ealt Disney, Imagineering, etc. We want our children to realize there is more to Walt Disney than theme parks. That Walt Disney epitomized a way of thinking outside of the box. Plus a big part of our retirement portfolio is made up of Disney shares. Did i mention we're also DVC?

My 33 year old son is still a Disney junkie. His first trip to Disneyland was when he was 1 year old, 2 1/2 years old for his first trip to Walt Disney World.
He followed me to Florida 8 years ago and is now a VIP tour guide at the Magic Kingdom. My parents raised a Disney junkie, and I raised a Disney junkie. Nothing wrong with that! :thumbsup2

I can't say I was a junkie but as a child I LOVED Dopey and then as I got older he became my "mascot" when DH and I started dating Toy Story was released and we started on a Disney movie adventure!! DH had been to Disney as a child I had not. He wanted to go to WDW on our honeymoon but I was afraid to fly :scared1:!!! When we had our oldest DD she LOVED the princesses - anything princess!! But Mulan was her favorite - she would go around the house acting out the movie and singing the songs. When she was 2 we decided to plan a trip to go that Dec. I found out I pregnant with DD #2 in July and took our first trip with DD2.5 and baby on the way. We had the BEST time and fell in love!!! It took one more trip to decide this is were we wanted to go for at least the forseeable future and we bought DVC shortly after!!

Both our DDs have Disney rooms - DD5 has princesses and DD2 Pooh and Friends. DD2 who has red hair will tell anyone she IS Ariel!! We love it!!

My daughter first went to WDW when she was 20 months old. For many years we were fortunate to be able to visit twice a year - we own DVC. She is 21 this year and can still cry when she hears 'When you Wish Upon a Star' and is counting hours until our trip on February 1st. I hope that magic never leaves her - it neve left us!

I was raised by Disney Junkies, raised 2 Disney Junkies and currently waiting to take my DGD to Disneyland for her afternoon walk. My parents loved Disney, use to pile my cousins into the back of the station wagon before seatbelts and drive from Northern California to LA and pick up 3 more cousins in Culver City. We would open the park and close the park at midnight. I started taking my oldest when she was 4 months old. my youngest went to WDW when she was 6 weeks old. My DGD went to DL when she was 7 weeks old and rode IASW. My youngest is now 21 and just completed 7 months in WDW with the College Program and wants to go back to do a Professional Internship at the Animal Kingdom. My oldest is now 25 with a 2 month old and an DLR AP. Her DH is not a junkie yet, received his first Disney coffee mug for Christmas ;) Our next whole family WDW Disney trip is in Dec 2011, week at SSR and DCL. Meanwhile, loving our Disneyland trips.

I have 3 teenagers and I have yet to talk them into Universal Studios. We have gone to city walk. They kind of like it but they say it's just not quite like Disney. Where ever we go they compare it to Disney, especially the hotels and restaurants. They are just plain spoiled!I think we've doomed them with paying for a lifetime of very expensive vacations when they get older .:laughing

Mine too. We went to IOA and US last Jan. as part of our WDW trip. This was our 1st time at those parks. They were OKAY....but they really didn't do it for any of us really. At the time our dd was 18, ds 15 and ds 10. They could probably go every 5 years maybe to US or IOA.

DS4 is well on his way, too! We recently returned from 5 days/4 nights over Marathon Weekend and when the towncar pulled into the Boardwalk driveway, he announced "We're HOME!" Gotta love it!

He's also become fixated with the large bathtub in our 2 BDRM villa and talked about it the whole trip!

At the end of our trip, he kept asking "Why do we have to go home?" and "I dont' WANT to go home!" I know how he feels......

when my boys hit the tween (im way too cool for my own good) age, they started lobbying to hit Universal. All proclaiming that Disney was a little kids' park:confused3. I finally acquiesed & it's now a typical part of our routine (pricey DVC Fri & Sat;))

I was shocked when my youngest requested an all disney trip after a quick 'bonus' visit to WDW 2 days last july. Thinking the prodigal son had returned home (& my points given away to another DS for a trip); I booked free DP offer. He fooled me, just didn't want to have to change resorts during the week:laughing:

my DSs r happy w/the parks once a year so I try to work in other vacations to keep everybody happy.
