Hi there Corey, I told my DH about your favorite site this year as he is a avid amateur photographer. He currently has a Canon 40D and is thinking about upgrading. He has been looking at the 7D. When I told him that is what you decided on he had the following question
Is there any reason you went with the 7D rather than the full frame 5D series? Have you been happy with your 7D and lastly, what did you have before you moved up to the 7D. He wants to stay with Canon as he has a number of lenses. thanks in advance, Penny:goodvibes

Until Corey sees this, you might be interested in this link (http://www.dpreview.com/) to a web site that Corey really likes for comparing cameras.

If he has a bunch of lenses for the 40D and similar sized APC Sensors (EF-S mount) then he would need to use the 7D. The EF-S lenses will NOT work on a 5D Mark II due to it being full frame. The 7D has a ton of features and even outdoes the 5DMII in a lot of areas.

Here is a link Corey sent me while I was researching. These are great.

Before you buy it, watch the 3 7D videos here. These are the most in depth videos that I've found on the web for the 7D.

thanks, I will send him this. He has 4 or 5 lenses (I really don't know what, he was explaining the question to me yesterday and I am not sure that I still understand it :lmao:) He says he is leaning toward the 7D as he uses his wide angle lens the most???? I will share your answer and post back if he asks another question. Thanks for answering. :goodvibesPenny

Penny, He probably has the 10-22mm EF-S Canon lens. That lens will not work on the 5DMark II. That is a $700 Canon lens. I can understand if he does not want to re-acquire a similar EF Lens

I am loving the 7D. There is a learning curve with the AF options but it's really incredible once you get it. I chose the 7D over the 5D for a number of reasons: Live view option, LCD size & quality, environmentally sealed, HD video, 8 fps, ISO range, 18mp, plus a ton of other options. The cropped sensor doesn't really matter to me. I moved from a non-DSLR Sony camera, so this in my first.

Here is my camera evolution since I've been with the DIS. You might be wondering why the Sony cameras. I loved the pivot option which enabled me to get above heads and low to the ground without doing gymnastics in the park. :)

Thanks for getting back to us. I will pass on the information to Jim. As I said, he has the 40D. Before that he used a Canon that shot film (see how technical I am :lmao:). He is looking to move up and has asked for B&H gift cards for Christmas and birthday. I think we will try and sell his 40D on Ebay (I have never done that before). However, before he buys he has to do lots of research. He is as compulsive about his camera stuff as I am about Disney and my pins. Thanks again everyone for your advice. Penny:hippie:

Jim Just wandered into the office and read all of your feedback. His response
From Jim - thanks very much everyone. I don't have any EF-S lenses so that is not an issue. It seems from what I have been reading that there is a 7D in my future. Thanks again for the input. Jim
