I'm so confused now.. I have 2 rooms because I have 6 people going. Myself, DH, DD, DS, DS and my mom. They put on the ressies Myself and my 4 year old in one room, then the rest in the other.
From what I understand I have DDP credit on one room card for myself and my DS 4
and DDP for the rest of the family on the other room card. So at the meal we have have seperate the bills for the cards.
So my question is if the policy for tipping on a group of 6 is 18% but we have two seperate DDPs does that mean they can't do the 18% automatic and we have to pay two seperate tips. :headache:
I like the idea of the food being paid for ahead of time, but I think it's getting too confusing and might go OOP

If 6 or more people eat together, no matter if OOP or on a dining plan there is an automatic 18% tip added. If only 4 of you are eating together, then you tip the way you want to. When you eat together only 2 cards need to be given when dining at TS if you are on the dining plan. One card from each room needs to be given to pay.

Yes, the appropriate 18% will be added to each check - the one for you and your son, and the one for the rest of your party.

that 18% is many places now for groups (outside disney and typical restaurants) , so I think that if you went OOP it'd be the same............dining plan is great IMHO.

So we would get charge 18% twice? one for each check

It's ok, it is confusing. If 1 rooms check came to $10 it would be charged 18% on the $10 or $1.08 , and the 2nd check came to $50 * 18% = $9.00.
So your total tip for the entire meal would be 10.08. The same as it would be if it was 1 check for $60.
I hope that makes sense. You won't be out any additional money because the checks are split.

(pssst! over here! not $1.08; $1.80 :) so the total tip would be $10.80 - 18% of $10 plus 18% of $50, which is the same as 18% of $60) Ahem. So, msce2's overall explanation is correct. Party 1's check has 18% of party 1's total (only)added on as the tip; party 2 has 18% of party 2's total (only) added to party 2's check.
Display:
Party one spends $10
18% of $10 is $1.80
$10 + $1.80 = 11.80
Party two spends $50
18% of $50 is $9
$50 + $9 = $59
Party one's $1.80 tip + party two's $9 tip = $10.80
Had they dined as one group:
Party one's $10 order plus party two's $50 order = $60
18% of $60 = $10.80

Tipping discussion on all restaurant boards and sub boards is referred to the Tipping Information Thread at
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2300858
The first post has an explanation regarding why it is necessary to have a dedicated tipping thread, what topics are permitted and not permitted, and an FAQ to answer popular tipping questions.
This thread is closed and referred to the tipping thread - and the OP has already gotten some tipping information here.
