View Full Version : Disney-selected roommate... er, thing?

From reading these boards, it seems like the two ways people get their CP roommates is either through knowing them in advance (in real life or on here or from Facebook) or through Disney selecting roommates for them. How does it work when Disney selects your roommate? What is the process like? Is it based solely on arrival dates and apartment complex preferences, or do they take other factors in to account (such as whether you're a night/morning person, how clean/messy you are, your role, etc)? If you get paired up with someone, but change your mind (say you meet someone on Facebook), can you switch? If you change roommates like that, Disney would pair them up with someone else, right, not just leave them to find someone else on their own?
Thanks in advance! :thumbsup2

When disney selects your roomates, I believe you do have some questions to fill out to help them in the matching search. I'm trying to recall the process but it's become a little hazy. But, i know they select because of arrival date first. Then I believe they take your questions into consideration, like you said, apartment preference etc..
I signed up for it and was notified the next day or day after. It worked out very well for me. My friend did the CP in spring 08, didn't like the roommate it matched him with, so when he checked in he changed and it was a random draw. It worked out for him then.
I do know that just because they match you up, does not mean you are automatically roommates, rather apartment mates. You could get paired with someone and decide to live in separate rooms. They don't really tell you that.
For example, 3 room apartment, 6 roommates.
A and B show up first and are matched but dont want to be in the same room. A moves into 1, B into 2.
C and D show up and want to be in the same room so they take 3.
that just mean E and F get to decide who goes into 1 and 2.
It could cause for some confusion and I think thats why they don't ever elaborate that you don't have to be in the same room, just apartment. Unless you have a 1 bedroom.

I wish I could do the roommate matching thing, but when I log in it says my arrival date is not eligible. Does anyone know the reasoning behind this?

The same is happening with me. I emailed recruiting and they said that if you are ineligible, it is because they're aren't enough people to utilize this function... or something along the lines of that.

What about the thingy where you tell Disney you already met a person you want to be your room mate? Is that the same system or do you just tell them at check in?

If you want to be matched through the system, yeah- that's the roommate matching notification system- but that has to be done at least 2 weeks before you arrive, otherwise it won't let you do it.
You can also just show up at check-in with the person and tell them who you are rooming with- that works too.
