Yes, it's time for me to return to the WISH friends I've missed and to make new ones....as I start back on a journey to health.
Some of you might remember me from a few years ago. I was a runner and lost weight with the help of a nutritionist. I maintained for a while, but then life seriously took over when I decided to end my (then) 11 year marriage. It was a very, very hard decision but one that I ultimately needed to make in order to climb out of a deep depression and get back to happiness.
I gained back every pound of the weight I lost a few years ago, over the past 2 years. I just didn't have it in me to fight this big fight while going through such an emotional and mental time. I am now at the point where I have separated from my stbx husband. We have sold the house we shared and have each bought our own houses. We share 50/50 custody of our 2 beautiful children - who, have come through this with flying colors, thanks to stbx and I putting THEM first no matter our disagreements.
So now.....IT IS TIME. For me to get back to me. The happy Kim who loves life and likes herself.
Please join me, friends.....

Welcome back, Kim! I was hoping you'd make it back some day and let us know everything is OK. I'm sorry to hear about your marriage. I went through the same thing years ago, so if you ever need any advice or a shoulder to cry on, I'm here for you.
You know how to get the weight off, and I know you can do it again. :thumbsup2

Amy - No, I'm not sure what my plan is yet. I think possibly a combination of the nutritionist's plan and counting calories. The nutritionists plan was extremely depriving...and I don't have that in me this time around. I won't be jumping in with the running at first. I'd love to get back to that at some point, but my knees have been acting up over the last 2 years. I've gone through cortisone shots and 2 rounds of chicken fat injections. Beginning arthritis, they say. I'm definitely going to try the 30 day Shred DVD for starters. :thumbsup2
Briarmom - Thanks for joining in! It's great to have you along!

so sorry to hear about your marriage it was a very brave & tough thing for you to do. Im glad the kids are doing well & that you & stbx are doing this in such a way as to put them 1st, so many relationships end badly & kids suffer! Heres to a VERY Happy New Year & new you

Chicken fat injections? YIKES! I'm sure you will find a plan that works for you and your body. Have you tried the Shred yet? I am going to do it again today. I wasn't nearly as sore the 2nd time I did it (but still felt it!), so we'll see what the 3rd time brings! I definitely wouldn't go more than 1 day between doing it, I would hate to start "from scratch" every time!

Yes, it takes some experimenting sometimes to find just the right program or combination.
I've always wondered about those chicken fat injections because my husband has really bad knees but he is allergic to chicken so the docs. won't try it on him.

Hey all! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
While I still have no official plan...I'm starting today. Here's what I know:
I will:
Log my food every night
Drink at least 80 ounces of water a day
30 Day Shred 3 times a week
I will not:
Eat after 8pm
Eat carbs at dinner
Skip breakfast
....here we go!:goodvibes

Check those things off your list every day and you are DEFINITELY on your way! Every positive action makes the next action more likely to be positive as well. Go Kim!!!

Stopping eating at the same time each day is a great control. It gives your system a good rest between the last meal and breaking your fast.
Your the second mention of the 30 Shred that I've read. I'll have to check that out...

Ok....day 1 was yesterday. I guess it's gonna take some time to get back into the groove of posting every day. ;) I did well, considering the fact that I was extremely hung over and called out of work (holiday party the night before).
scrambled eggs with lite english muffin
healthy choice tomato basil soup
lite string cheese stick
1 cup of my dad's homemade chili
I did stop eating at 7:45pm. I didn't get all my water in because of my funny tummy y'day.
Tonight is 30 Day Shred. :woohoo:

Great job! Knowing my family, DH and I would have used the hangover as an excuse to totally indulge! Great effort. I think we all need to give ourselves a break and congratulate ourselves on making strides toward the goal even if we don't achieve perfection each and every day...
I got the 30 Shred requested from the library. Post how it goes, I'm totally interested to hear.
kimwim8
01-05-2010, 07:27 PM
Trust me...a cheeseburger was on my mind! But fitting in my clothes and feeling better about myself won out! :thumbsup2
Ok, so food for today:
1/2 packet weight control oatmeal (didn't sit well with my belly)
WW flatbread
light string cheese
120 calories of mixed nuts
chicken breast with peppers & onions
string beans
salad
Done by 7:30pm. 100 ounces of water. :goodvibes
Not sure how well the breakfast thing will go. I've always had a weird stomach in the morning. I generally can't eat without upsetting my stomach til 10ish. I'm going to still try to have something for breakfast, but we'll see. It's not worth feeling bad every day, right?
I did my first night of the 30 day Shred tonight. HOLY COW!!:scared1: Jillian Michaels kicked my rear! Not sure how well my knees will hold up. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Definitely an intense workout. I can't imagine level 2!
Thanks so much for the support, girls. The hangover is gone...back to reality. :rotfl:

Hi Kim,
I think that your Weight Control oatmeal may have sucralose in it. Worth a double check - I know that stuff doesn't sit well with you in the first place.
Looks like you're doing well with your plan! I know what you mean about Jillian - I can't even do all those jumping jacks! No way, jose. Yeah, I know she makes bigger people than me do them. But she doesn't have to live with our knees, you know?
So glad your hangover is gone!
inkkognito

I'm not a breakfast person either. I find that I do better just having some coffee. I know conventional wisdom says breakfast is essential, but I find I do better without it myself. Do some experimenting and see what works for you...maybe a 10 a.m. snack is better.

Have you ever tried something other than breakfast food for breakfast? Like 1/2 a sandwich or a chicken breast or something? In a lot of European countries they have meat, cheese and yummy breads for breakfast. :cloud9:
I am doing Shred Level 2 for the first time today after work, I'll let you know how it goes (if I survive!)...

Hi Kim,
The Fruit and Vegetable police, here. :magnify: You're doing so great already, but remember to have your fruits and vegetables, too! A side of frozen vegetables or a piece of whole fruit add a lot of nutrition and bulk for not that many calories. :)
You are really on a roll now! Way to go!

As for the Shred, I did Level 1 5x (every other day) before switching to Level 2. It was interesting because there are some things in Level 2 that are easier than Level 1, but some that are much harder... I wanted to die during the workout, but I am not as sore as I thought I'd be this morning. I think I'll stay on L2 for a while, maybe do it 8-10x before attempting L3 (which I have not even peeked at, I'm too scared!)

Congrats on your fresh start! My name's Laurie and I'm new to WISH, but certainly not new to struggles with my weight! I am also doing the weight loss journey... again... but I feel positive about it and am excited to start feeling better about myself again!!! 2 years ago I lost 40lbs with the help of a nutritionist and working out, and am going to be starting all over again on Saturday when I get weighed and measured by a trainer. As soon as that's done, I'll start posting my food and exercise in my WISH journal also!
I look forward to your continued success!!

01-07-2010, 03:04 PM
Hi Laurie! Welcome and thanks for stopping by! :goodvibes Are you going back to the nutritionist or doing it on your own this time? I'd love to know what type of plan your nutritionist had you on. Mine, now, seems soooo regimented that I can't wrap my brain around doing it again.
Grapefruit party going on! :banana:Although, I haven't eaten mine yet. I might have it as an after dinner snack tonight....
Tonight is night 2 of the Shred. I'm a little scared, based on how sore I am....but heck, if the contestants on TBL can get through those workouts, I can do 20 minutes with Jillian, right? I also purchased 3 lb. handweights, since I can't seem to find mine since the move in October. I used 8 lb. weights on Tuesday night and there's no way I'm ready for those!!

celery w/lite cream cheese
WW mini pizzas
turkey keilbasa
broccoli
Was done eating by 6:30. 80 oz. water. Didn't do the Shred again, my knees were screaming last night. So instead I emptied out DS8's room, took down all shelving on the walls and sanded the holes to prep for spackle (my fun tonight. haha)

Thanks girls! I wasn't good about journaling during my 3 day weekend. Sorry!
Food was mostly good. A few meals out where I didn't watch as much as I should've. My knees are still killing me. I guess I'm asking for cortisone shots when I go to the ortho on Thursday....
I painted DS8's room this weekend. I finished all but the one wall that will be a red/accent wall. I had to paint the popcorn ceiling white (it was yellow to match the walls) and then painted the other walls gray. I took some before pics, so I'll be sure to put those & the after pics on here as soon as I finish. :thumbsup2
I need a little pixie dust....
stbx and I have gone through mediation for our separation. It was mostly peaceful, thankfully. I told him a couple weeks ago that I was ready to file for divorce (which he had asked me recently NOT to do for a while). Anyway, we have our appointment tonight with the mediator to begin the paperwork necessary to file with the court. I guess I was surprised that he's gone along with this, since he didn't want it. But....maybe he does now? We've lived apart since October, so maybe he is ready. Which would be GREAT! I guess I'm always wary of the potential "explosion" of emotion, you know? Sorry to ramble...

Sending lots of good thoughts, :wizard::wizard:, and prayers your way today. I hope the appointment goes well for you tonight.

Sending good thoughts for the mediation process. Hopefully he has started to come to closure and will do what needs to be done. It's never an easy time, but it will run more smoothly if he's on the same page...then you can move on with your life and not have to waste energy on an unneceessarily rough split.

Thanks, ladies!
Yes, the shred definitely hurts my knees more. The jumping jacks & butt kicking/running in place are killers! Its just such a good workout that I'd hate to have to stop. But I'm going to put it off until after Thursday & see what he says....
Thanks also for the support with mediation. I'll let you know how it goes.
And yes, of course I'll post pics of DS's room!

Hey girls.
Not a great day, food-wise y'day. I think I'm letting the KNEES get to me...
wheat bagelful
1/2 turkey burger w/french fries
2 slices cold pizza
WW ice cream bar
Mediation went really well last night. The mediator even commended us for the fact that we were able to get through the whole process via mediation and no lawyers. She said the percentage of couples that start mediation and actually finish that way is very, very small. I'm SO glad we were both able to do it this way, for the kids sake. Anyway, We walked out with the packet of paperwork we need to take to the courthouse to physically FILE for divorce. We discussed that we will wait until after my Key West trip to take it over there together (makes things go faster b/c we can both sign things there). Once we hand it in, we wait about a week for a court date...which she predicts will be about 2 weeks later. And that will be that!
I don't think he's a horrible person, he just wasn't right for me. Too much to go into here, but we will work so much better together as parents than as husband & wife.
Have a great day, everyone! Thank you again, so much, for your love and support!!

It's great that the two of you are able to focus on the kids and handle things in a mature way to lessen the impact on them. As you said, he's not a bad guy but he just wasn't right for you. Too many couples I see in counseling are all about blame and finger pointing and who is right or wrong. But there is no objective right or wrong...two good people can get caught in the wrong circumstances or just not mesh together in a way that works for the long term. Better to put the energy into moving on than pointless blame.

Hey ladies. Not sure what's going on, but my mind is a little off track this week. I'm trying to not let it get completely out of control...

I go to the ortho today at lunch, so I'll let you know how it goes. :thumbsup2

Ok, so went to my first ever mammogram y'day morning (not as bad as I thought it would be) and then ortho on my lunch break. Fun day! haha. Ortho is sending me for lymes test b/c he doesn't understand my amount of pain (and I have a high pain tolerance) with the minimal amount of arthritis I currently have in my knees. Besides that, I got a cortisone shot in each knee...and today I already feel much better! :thumbsup2
This morning I went for a filling at the dentist and DD10 had an extraction to prep for braces. Another fun morning.
I weighed in at 139.0 this morning. Which is good, considering my food choices this week, and the lack of Shred. Without looking back, I think I was 139.8 last week...so it's a loss. :goodvibes
Have a great weekend, ladies!!

Hey Kim,
Nice to see you around here again.I remember reading your posts a couple years ago.You were totally inspiring to me at that time.It was around the time Amybeth and ScoJo15 were on too.Miss them.
I remember thinking about all your running and how you did that- now I do that to and it is thanks to the 3 of you guys.
Sorry to hear about your knees, that is a buzz kill- as the kids would say! I know a guy at work who has Lymes disease too and same thing his knees really bother him.
Keep journaling- Have a great weekend!

Hey ladies. I'm so sorry!! Life has totally taken over. It seems like I have plenty of time to journal when the kids are with their dad. But when they're with me...I'm with them (obviously) hahaha!
Thanks for the bump, C!
Linda!! So nice to hear from you again! Thanks for the kind words, and I'm so happy for you and your running! :thumbsup2
Tracy - The cortisone shots don't hurt. The ortho dr sprays the injection area with the freezing/numbing stuff, so I don't feel the needle at all. I do feel some pressure in my knee from the liquid going in, but that's about it! They hurt later, I guess when the numbness wears off. More like an achyness. But now they feel great again! Hopefully it lasts for a while. I have a lab slip to go for my lymes test. I'll be going sometime this week.
Not much else to report, ladies. My trip is fastly approaching. :yay:

I hate saying these words because I've said them so many times....
BACK ON TRACK!!
I'm starting Weight Watchers at work on Wednesday, but I just can't take not fitting in my clothes anymore...so today is it. Isn't a shame that my mind plays such mental games with me? Like....well, if you start today, then you'll lose that "water weight" before Wednesday and then it won't show as a good loss for your first WW week. Oh, come on! I've been eating like a pig for so long now, I can't even decide on what crap to eat anymore...b/c none of it is exciting anymore.
So, here I go....

Hooray, Kim!
You know, I know what you're saying about not starting before the weigh in on Wednesday, but those numbers aren't the important thing, really. It feels good to have a big loss the first week or two, and I'm sure you will, whether you start today or Wednesday. WW is a tool to get you where you want to go, though, so the sooner you start, the sooner you get where you're going!
I just hope you have a good leader - those meetings can be dreadful if the leader is annoying.
It sounds like you're ready, though, and I look forward to cheering your progress!

I made a chicken/broccoli/brown rice recipe from the WW week 1 booklet. Yeah, not so good! Very, very bland. It was edible...and did the trick, as far as fueling my body. But I'm going to think of some way to spice it up a little more for the next time I make it.
The weather was beautiful in Jersey this weekend!! Sunny and 60's! I was able to get out for a nice long walk yesterday. I'm planning on walking most days this week at lunch (except for Thursday, which is my WW at work weigh in). During my whole walk yesterday I just wanted to jump into running. But I have to try to be smart about making sure my knees are up for it at this point. I'll walk for a while and then insert some little running spurts at some point.
Have a good week, all!

Has it really been that long since I've been on here? GEEZ!
Not much new to report. Although, I did stop the WW at work program with only a few weeks left. The leader was seriously not helping with motivation. She would actually call out people that didn't lose, or didn't track...it was kind of humiliating. That's not what it's about, to me. It's her job to re-motivate as needed, IMO! So I'm using the etools on my own instead. So far so good.
This weekend I came down with the stomach virus, so the scale is showing a bigger loss than I'd normally have....but I guess if there's one benefit to going through that sickness - I'll take it!
Hope you're all well (if anyone's still out there!).

Ugh, ugh, double ugh on your leader. That's really a revolting way to run a meeting, and not at all what WW is supposed to be about, I believe. Good for you for taking care of yourself by getting out of her airspace.
I'm so glad the etools are so far so good.
Hope you feel better soon!
