View Full Version : Questions about Home Resort?
DH and I went to an Open House on thursday. Seriously thinking of buying in. After reading the boards, it appears that the Boardwalk is the toughest resort to get ressies at. Is it worth waiting for a resale at Boardwalk? If not, we'll probably buy at VWL before the end of the month to get an October use year and the extra points. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can read that two ways; think about why is it that the BoardWalk is the hardest to get reservations at.

Why is it important to buy in by the end of the month?

The use year they are selling changes at the end of the month. With magical beginnings, the deadline for using it for a particular use year is the 100% banking deadline date. So March 31 is the deadline to buy an October use year with magical beginnings.
I heard a rumor on an AOL board that they are ending Magical Beginnings at the end of this month, at least at VWL. If you are thinking of buying, you may want to check with your guide.

Does anybody know if MB is really ending this month for WLV? I was counting on using it later in the year. I'd better call our guide this week.

Olaf, if you like VWL and want to stay there most of the time, then you should buy there. If what you want to do is stay at BWV most of the time then resale would be better. BWV can difficult to get with the 7 month window different times of the year. Likely as VWL sells out that will be true for it too.
I noticed that you have stayed at SOG a number of times in the last 8 years which means you are entitled to the military discount. If that is something you will be entitled to for many years to come, then an issue you face is whether you even need DVC. I am not trying to discourage you, just that I know the rates for SOG for military are about the best anybody can get--essentially you are getting something close to a deluxe resort for a value price. (I stayed there when it was the Disney Inn and it was one of my favorites because the rooms were large and the two golf courses are right there). The issue you face if a military discount will be available for many years is that DVC is not really a financial money saver for someone in that position. In other words, in the long run DVC won't actually save you money. Just something else to think about I guess.

I didn't know there were one, two and three bedroom units at SOG.
If I am right, and there aren't condo like units at SOG, DVC will still be a great deal. I could't think of vacationing at WDW in a studio now that we are DVC members.

You're right, we're military and can and do stay at SOG. I love that place. So quiet and peaceful and cheap! But, it is a hotel room, albeit a nice one.
What I like about VWL is just about everything. We went out to eat several eats time on this past trip, and I brought back doggie bags. Had Frig, but no where to heat it up. Sounds like a small thing, but it would have been nice to have had kitchen and eat breakfast quietly.
Actually, what we're thinking of doing is staying at SOG for three days and do the parks, then move to VWL and have a real vacation, with short trips to the parks. I know it sounds a little nutty, but it might work.
We're still very undecided.

That doesn't sound nutty at all! I've often thought of staying at one location to do the parks and then moving to another site for the quiet vacation part! The resorts at DVC are so nice that my main concern is how many "off" days I have to relax by the pool and shop and NOT how many days I will have in the park :D
