tea at the Ritz? anyone!

has anyone done this at the Ritz or at another top London hotel as a treat-I am thinking of doing this for DH's birthday in April, but it's a bit pricey for a sarnie and a cake :lmao: has anyone done this and is it worth it?

I'm reliably informed by a friend who has been to both recently that Claridges is now better than the Ritz for tea.

We have done lunch at Claridges in Gordan Ramsays restaurant which was very nice. We have done afternoon tea in Harrods many times which is reasonably priced, although it is better to do this in the Georgean restaurant as they top up the sandwiches, cakes and tea there as much as you like!

I've done the Savoy, Claridges. Although not one of the "biggies", I've also done the Marriott County Hall, which is nice as it looks out over the river and tea is taken in the library. All of these were done quite a few years ago as presents for "older" ladies MIL, Great Aunt etc. I remeber thinking it was quite a cost at the time but it always went down well as a gift:thumbsup2

DH(39) and myself (41) went a couple of years ago for my birthday.
We went to the last sitting and it was just the most perfect evening.
There were people there of all ages - from really old wrinklies to those in their 20s. There was also a large group of men in their 30s who were obviously having thier annual reunion there.

We got all dressed up - but its not "Too Posh" in any way - its elegantly formal. And a great excuse to get the nice clothes out of the cupboard for a change.

They came round continuously with the sandwiches, then the scones and then the wee peti-fours? (sp) - the small cakes you get.
You could chose which extra ones you wanted.
At first we thought "is this all the sandwiches/cakes we get" but we left with BIG FAT TUMMIES!! after eating far more than we should have.

We then sat in the lobby with a glass of champers until gone 11 watching the coming and goings.

We got all the parents vouchers as a gift at our wedding - they loved it too.

I've not done "Tea" anywhere else, but i couldnt recommend The Ritz more highly. I would have no question in recommending it to anyone.

While I haven't had afternoon tea at the Ritz I have had it at the Grosvenor in Chester which was similarly pricey but IMO worth it for the experience, I think it's a nice special thing to do for a specific occasion as it's something most people don't do very often :)

I have been lucky to go to the Ritz for afternoon tea twice; really lovely both times. My sister and I decided a couple of years ago that instead of birthday pressies we would treat ourselves to afternoon tea in London instead. We have done Claridges, The Waldorf, Fortnum and Mason (upstairs on the fourth floor) and the Grosvenor on Park Lane overlooking Hyde Park. Oh and forgot the Dorchester for her engagement. They are all much of a muchness regarding what they serve; we have never left hungry. I think the Ritz is my fav for setting amd ambiance. People were a little more dressed up and the atmosphere was lovely. It is a lovely treat and I dont think you'll be disappointed.

I like the Savoy best. Less touristy than the Ritz IMHO.

My favourite is definitely Fortnum & Mason's for afternoon tea, it's formal enough that it feels like a treat but the wait staff aren't looking down their noses at you! F & M is a great location and you can have a nice mooch around the shop before or after. Enjoy!

Took my sister, for her 50th, to the Ritz.
Our mum came to and we all had a great time.
Food was plentyful and we kept being topped up.
Only grumble was that we were told off for taking photos! - however we had taken them by the time we were asked to refrain to protect other guests privacy.
Oh, the toilets are to die for!!!
