In what country did Disney discover the four Walt Disney Locomotives: Mexico, Venezue

According to original Disney Press releases, all of the engines were purchased from United Railways of Yucatan, headquartered in Merida - which was a "jungle town".

The oldest of the steamers was built in 1902 and the other four are 1915-1928 vintage.

I'll bet you do Daisy. When I was looking for an answer to this thread, I ran across a piece of info that I did not know. Disneyland purchased a steam locomotive from, of all places, Cedar Point. The engine is now known as the "Ward Kimball" and is Disneyland's 5th steam locomotive.

How very interesting. Our fifth locomotive was called the Ward Kimball. The fifth locomotive did not fit the tracks and I believe it was sold to somebody and it was swapped for railroad cars. You can still see pieces of the fifth locomotive by the train tracks near the crossing in Adventureland.

There is also a reference to Ward Kimball under the Main St. train station. There is a time board for the trains and one of the destinations is listed as "Kimball Canyon" and also "Grizzly Flats," which I believe is the name of his personal railroad, much like Walt's Carolwood Pacific.

The Magic Kingdom operates five narrow-gauge steam locomotives around the perimeter of its theme park. Normally, two of the four are in operation at a time. Four of these steam
locomotives came from the United Railroad of Yucatan, Mexico. They have been converted to burn oil. One more locomotive (a 1927 Davenport built for N&S Coal at Pittsburg, Nova Scotia as an 0-4-0T, now a 2-4-4RT) was recently added to the roster and named Ward Kimball. However, it was found too light for the trains. In 1999 it was traded to the Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad in Sandusky, OH in exchange for their former Barker Lapine 2-4-4 named "Maud L". Maud L. was sent to Disneyland in Anaheim, CA where it will be completely rebuilt and converted from burning coal to burning oil.
