All right, I'm throwing my hat into the ring here! Hanging out with a Disney pusher has finally taken it's toll and I am just hooked. (Yep, Karen I'm talking about YOU!) She was good too, like any pusher she just gave me a little taste at first and then kept stringing me along knowing I'd come back for more. :stir:

It all started with the innocent mention of homeschool tickets and the lure of a good deal. I decided to check into it because even though I really didn't want to go to WDW I knew my kids would enjoy it. Now, before you cry blasphemy at my lack of desire for the World let me explain that I went for a day on my senior trip with no plan and no idea what I was doing. It was hot, the lines were long and we didn't even get to stay long enough to see Wishes. Not an endearing memory. Karen kept reassuring me that with a plan it didn't have to be like that; I wasn't convinced but decided to give it a try. So, I checked into the price of the homeschool tickets and figured I could swing it and while it might not be my dream vacation it would be fun. Then Karen implemented the next part of her devious plan... pictures.

We share a budding love of photography so when she returned from her trip to the World in October I couldn't wait to see her pics. Not wanting to give me much time between 'fixes' a link to her trip report here on the dis soon followed the pics. pixiedust: Okay, now I'm actually starting to get excited and look forward to this trip and not just for the kids. But my friend is cunning, she knows that I'm excited but not a full blown addict yet and I might need one more taste to push me over the edge. Maybe the fact that there will probably be free dining and a link to the menus. :smooth:

I emerged from pouring over info about what days to go to which parks and scouring menus to keep all of my picky eaters happy with a perfect schedule of ADRs to make and backups just in case. Yep, I'm pretty much gone now, what else could she possibly throw at me to drag me in deeper? Perhaps a link to the DISign boards here at the dis. :surfweb:

A few days of lurking around the boards and before I knew it I had plans to make 40 shirts, journals, autograph books, passports, pressed penny money holders, snack tickets... Ooooh, I'm going to need some tables and charts and graphs and bulleted lists to keep all of this straight. :goodvibes (Have I mentioned that I love tables and charts and graphs and bulleted lists? )

So, I have most of my plans ready to go and yet I still have all of this pent up Disney energy and need an outlet. I figured I'd start a PTR and recount some of those plans (fine tuning as I go of course ;) ) since I still have lots of time before my actual trip... which reminds me I need to get a ticker for my sig... :rolleyes

Ok, so...let me try to explain this. Lets start with getting the name to your PTR instead of just the link full of numbers and letters. Go in to edit your signature. Where you have the link you will see the web address first and then in brackets, you will see it again. In between those brackets you can put whatever you want and THAT is what will show, instead of the web address. Does this make sense? That's how I can put a link to something and then give it a name. If you mess around with it, you will get it. :)

I'll begin by introducing the cast of players for this magical trip. I haven't attempted to post pics here on the dis yet so bear with me if I don't get it right the first time!

I don't have many pics of me since I'm the family photographer so a family pic...

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/clingmansdomebw.jpg

That's me, Hope, in the back barely taller than the kids. Dh, Robbie, is next to me towering over the rest of us and creating lots of dead space above our heads in the pic. DD, Kya, is nine and DS, Jace, is 10. This pic was taken on top of old smoky... the tallest peak in the Smoky Mountains. It was a beautiful, fun relaxing trip but I have a feeling our next family vacation is going to make this one pale in comparison. :goodvibes

My parents are going with us too! :cheer2:

I didn't have any pics of my mom, Bobbi, by herself so here's one of her and the kids at the pumpkin patch in October.

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_7497.jpg

And my dad, Tony.

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/IMG_6585.jpg

I really am so grateful that I have parents who make the trip better for all of us! A couple of years ago dh and I decided to go on our first solo trip. I was really looking forward to it and it was in my favorite place on earth- Germany in the Heidelberg area. HOWEVER I spent much of the trip thinking that the kids would have enjoyed many of the things we were doing and feeling bad that they were missing out. I'd traveled without them before but this time was different because I knew they would be old enough to really enjoy themselves.

A few months later the kids and I went with my parents and my brother to the beach but since we'd just gone to Germany Robbie couldn't miss work. Again, so many things were disappointing without Robbie there. I got tears in my eyes when the kids saw the ocean for the first time. Their response was priceless and Kya, who was 7 at the time, cried out "Oooh, it's bigger than big!!" I was just so sad that he missed that KWIM? She'll see the ocean again but it won't ever be THE FIRST TIME again. Anyway, after going on two vacations that year that were fun but still fell a little flat I realized that vacations just weren't the same without all of us together.

We've traveled together since then and it is soooo much better but the fact that we'll all be there this time AND my parents will be there to give Robbie and I some time to ourselves is just icing on my Disney cake!

Stay tuned... I want to tell you all about picking my ADRs but I'm trying to pace myself!

All right, those pics are huge!!! I'm going to work on resizing them!

ETA: Done! that wasn't so hard... and thanks Karen! I figured it out once I remembered it was pretty much like the unschooling boards I used to visit. It just took a minute for it all to come back to me. ;)

It's so nice to see your family, Hope!!! I'm a shorty like you --- 5"3"!!! I like to say vertically challenged. :rotfl2: And I see you learned how to rename the trip report. You two are making me feel like a slacker for not doing one.....I just don't have much to say unless I'm responding to someone else's comments.:confused3 OH well. Merry Christmas to you as I don't think I'll be on the boards for the next few days......:santa:

I was going to jump in and tell you about the ADRs but realized that you might be wondering when we'll be going, where we'll be staying and why. That one was pretty simple.

Karen brought up the homeschool tickets at our homeschool playgroup, during the course of the conversation someone (I don't remember who) mentioned it would be fun for the kids if we went at the same time. I love travel, I love planning vacations, and I love taking my kids new places. I knew they would love WDW so I decided we'd look into it and see if we could afford it. At first we thought we'd go in January of 2010 (we know all of these homeschool dates haven't been released yet- we're just looking at the history and keeping our fingers crossed!). However, Karen had just returned from a trip that coincided with Food & Wine which her dh loved AND historically WDW does free dining in September (which is another month in which they historically do homeschool tickets). So, discounted homeschool tickets, F&W AND free dining!!! It was like the perfect storm- and we got to go even sooner! We knew it would be hotter but that's okay, we could plan our days to be at the pool in the hottest part of the day and just tough it out the rest of the time. So, our dates are picked...

I honestly didn't do much in choosing where to stay. As I said, Karen and I are going at the same time and she's staying at ASMu so we are too. We thought our girls would enjoy having a friend to play in the pool with so staying at the same resort was an easy decision. Of course I still had to read through the ASMu thread here at the DIS and look at the pics on the Disney site. Since I admit that my planning is obsessive it shouldn't be a surprise that I not only needed to know which resort we would be staying at I also needed to think about which building and why as well as where in that building we wanted to be. :rotfl:

I know there are no guarantees but we'll be requesting Jazz 9 near the smoking section. My dad is a smoker so there's that but the smoking section will also put us a little further away from the pool which will mean quieter evenings for Robbie who is a light sleeper. Honestly, I joke about the obsessive planning but I really just want everyone to have a good time and taking the time to think about these things helps with that. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! ;)

So, the resort and room were picked, threads read, pictures poured over- it was time to move on. I spent a little (okay, maybe more than a little :rolleyes1 ) time looking at Karen's schedule of park days, reading through the DIS, looking at Tour Guide Mike, etc. to determine when we wanted to see each park. I came up with what seemed like a perfect schedule and even had a few park days in common with Karen so the girls would be able to do some things together. A few weeks later I had to tweak my original schedule because we found out that F&W would be starting later than we thought at first and I was scheduled to be at World Showcase on opening day!! My hubby does NOT like crowds and I had planned carefully not to be in parks on busy days. I wasn't sure how he'd react to opening day so I thought it would be best to switch it. Karen on the other wanted to go to F&W since opening day was going to be her only chance. This meant we also needed to move the day we'd planned to spend together at Blizzard Beach. It sounds much more complicated than it really was- I just pushed BB back a day, moved WS to our first park day (a green day according to TGMike!) and switched AK (which had been our first park day) to our last day. No biggie and a chance for more planning. :thumbsup2

We had also originally planned to fly home Friday after BB but when we changed our schedule for F&W we decided to fly out early Saturday instead. Robbie and my mom had requested a full weekend to recover from the trip but they were both okay with getting home early Saturday instead of late Friday. I'm soooo glad we made this change. I was really worried about how much fun I could really have at BB when I would be worried about getting to ME on time. Tearing the kids away from a waterpark to get to the airport on time is NOT my idea of fun! :sad2: One thing I have to remember is that while I'm trying to make sure everyone has fun I need to make sure I have fun too (something that I easily forget sometimes). So, I switched it. :wizard:

After all of that... our park schedule for the week of September 25- October 2, 2010:

I'm pretty sure that these are all green days according to TG Mike and we will be at rope drop (or at least attempt to be) every day so we should be low on crowds and lines and high on fun! :cheer2:

Saturday 9/25- fly to Orlando, check into and explore resort and head to Downtown Disney to shop, go to Disney Quest, and eat dinner.

Sunday 9/26- World Showcase

Monday 9/27- Hollywood Studios

Tuesday 9/28- Magic Kingdom

Wednesday 9/29- Future World, meeting Karen for lunch then going to World Showcase so the girls can do a Kim Possible mission together :goodvibes

Thursday 9/30- Blizzard Beach

Friday 10/1- Animal Kingdom

Saturday 10/2- fly home

We had some post Christmas excitement around here yesterday that is somewhat related to our Disney vacation and I am soooo excited that I have to share it with you guys.

Yesterday we took our kids to town to spend the gift cards they'd gotten for Christmas and we split up so Jace didn't have to stand around while Kya looked at clothes and she didn't have to stand around while he looked at video games. So, Robbie dropped us off and then took Jace over to Gamestop. A little while later he called and said they were in the parking lot whenever we were ready to go. We were headed to the checkout line a few minutes later and I was confused to see him walking toward me because I'd thought he was going to wait in the car. As he approached he pulled a scratchers ticket out of his pocket that he'd bought after he dropped us off and handed it to me. Now, I don't buy tickets because with my obsessive persoanlity I get sucked in but he likes them and knows when to quit so he plays once in a while. He's never really won a significant amount but enough to break even- a dollar here, ten there, you know just enough to fund his fun. But not this time- yesterday he won $1000!!!
:cool1::cool1::cool1:

We looked it up online and we only have to pay 4% tax on a prize between $101 and $5000 so when we make it to the lotto office this week we will walk out with a check for $960. We haven't decided what to do with all of the money yet (I'm trying to convince him that a netbook would be good for the whole family, :rotfl:) but we know some of it is going to be going in our Disney fund and as soon as we get the check I'm booking our room! I had been waiting for our tax refund but now I can get it done sooner and hopefully use our taxes to pay for something else Disney (or a new lens for my camera :rolleyes1 ).

Well, now that the initial excitement has worn off from "winning the lottery" (which is what my kids keep saying :lmao: ) we've decided to keep the extra money in savings until we get our tax return and THEN decide what to do. Mostly because I want a netbook and Robbie wants a tv for the bedroom (which I used to say absolutely no way but as the kids have gotten bigger and taken over the living room I'm reconsidering, lol)- hopefully we'll have enough to get both if we can find good deals (which is my specialty ;) ). Anyway, we'll have the money either today or tomorrow and I'm definately making our reservations! :woohoo:

I thought I'd tell you about ADRs just in case you were waiting with baited breath to hear all about it.

ADRs and the prospect of free dining were really the thing that sealed the deal and made me a full-on Disney convert. Karen sent me a link to the allears menus and I was hooked! We'll be staying seven nights so seven TS to choose!! :surfweb:

I have a few picky eaters in my midst so it was a bit of a challenge to find things that would satisfy everyone and still have SOME variety. The main challenges- my dad doesn't eat vegetables and the only thing Jace can be guaranteed to eat is pizza and cheeseburgers. Robbie was also a challenge because he really likes plain foods but since he will generally eat whatever without complaining it wasn't as big of an issue- except that I wanted him to have a good time so I tried to keep his preferences in mind as well. So, I had to find things that would offer a filling meal for my dad which meant meat, potatoes and dessert (this would also pretty much keep Robbie happy as well so that helped). For Jace either pizza or cheeseburgers had to be on the menu. He'll be 11 at the time of our trip so will have the choice to eat from the adult or the child's menu and usually at least one of the menus offered these foods. A few things I'd really wanted to try like Boma, Marakkesh, and Teppen Edo were scratched for one of our picky reasons or another but overall, no great losses.

My mom mentioned that she and my dad like breakfast and often have that as their big meal of the day so I figured a couple of breakfasts would help keep everyone happy. Buffets were another strategy. It was days and days of pouring over menus and trying to fit things in with my park schedule but I did finally come up with a schedule that seemed perfect. I think it must have been perfect because originally we had six nights and six TS. When I added the seventh I moved some things around and spent about an hour trying to get things just right. When I finished I realized that I'd moved everything back to my original times. At least now I knew without a doubt that this was the perfect schedule for us.

I tried to get some variety of food in there (as much as possible with my picky eaters!) and also to spread out the TS between breakfast, lunch and dinner. The only thing that didn't work out for us was a CS lunch at Flametree BBQ in Animal Kingdom. I've read over and over that it is the best CS at WDW and my dad loves BBQ so it would have been nice. However, since we have two TS meals that day it just makes sense to have a snack for lunch. The hour I spent moving things around was my attempt at trying to make this work but it just never did without changing other things about our schedule that were really more important. The guys will have other opportunities to eat bbq ribs so it's not really a huge loss and overall I'm EXTREMELY happy with the schedule! :goodvibes

So, without further ado- our complete schedule with parks, activites, ADRs and other meals:

-S (4) lunch, back to resort to rest/swim
-1900 Character Dinner TS (7)
-Wishes from Marina at GF

Saturday October 2:-CS (7) breakfast at ASM
-use any left over snack credits- can take these with us for trip home!
-check out by 11 am
-travel home

Three extra snack credits each -The kids will have three snack tickets on their lanyards to use whenever they feel like it. I wanted to be sure to leave some leeway with snacks so if anyone felt hungry they could get something without having to pay OOP every time.

We'll also be shipping a box of breakfast and snacks foods to round out the DDP. I think this looks like plenty of food but with all the walking we may be famished and I want to be prepared! I'd originally planned to buy beer at the gift shop at the resort but I'm hearing reports of $5 per beer! :scared1: I'm just going to fax our ids to Garden Grocer and if my dad or Robbie want some beers to keep in the room we'll have it delivered. They could also take a cab to a grocery store if they wanted so I'll leave that that up to them. I'll still fax the ids so they can decide when we're there what they'd rather do. Planning for every contingency... this is why I call myself obsessive! :lmao: It really does pay off in the long run though because this way if everyone is tired we can just have things delivered but if the guys need a break from the Magic then they can get one- and you just never know what you're going to want until your there in the situation. (This is what I tell myself to justify the obsession) :thumbsup2

Oh, and I forgot to mention (I know, I know, with a post that long how could there be anything else!)- Robbie was feeling lucky and bought another scratchers ticket yesterday- he won another $50! I'm telling you that man needs to buy a powerball ticket this week!

Ooooh! I didn't see this latest version of the schedule! I think you will like Chef Mickey's, it's something you should do at least once, the kids will love it! Your parents will love Ohana as well I bet! They can watch Hallowishes (where we will be that night!) if you time it right! :)

I added Chef Mickey's for my 7th TS and then had enough for a CS for breakfast before we go home, so that extra night is going to pay for itself (well, almost). I wasn't sure about the food at Chef Mickey's but I figure it can't be all bad and Kya will love dinner with Minnie so it will be worth it even if the food isn't great.

What time would be "timing it right" for viewing Hallowishes do you think? I'd like to see Hallowishes at least once (from outside the park since we aren't buying tickets to MNSSHP) and if our night at GF is regular Wishes then we'll plan to view it from Contemporary after Chef Mickey's (and of course Mom and Dad from the beach at Poly if they want).

On a side note I'd have really liked to have gone to Ohana but no pizza or cheeseburgers for Jace and I really have my heart set on Robbie and I having our night alone on the Boardwalk so I guess we'll just have to hear about it from mom and dad.

Hope, that is soooooo awesome about the scratch ticket. A girl here at work won the same amount this past weekend. Great job!!! Ah yes, good old Gamestop! I think my DD lives there!!!:yay:

Weeeellll, timing is not as easy to plan. We had a 7:10 ADR at Ohana and were still in the restaurant, getting ready to leave at 9pm when Wishes started. Not sure if it will be 9 or 9:30, and that may depend on Hallowishes. It "should" be Hallowishes that night (you'll see my scramble to change my whole schedule if it's not! Ack!) MNSSHP is traditionally on T, TH, F, & Sun. Our dinner took way longer than I thought, we had to wait for our seats past our ADR and then it took a long time for the food.

Where will you watch it at Contemporary?? I forgot if there is somewhere to watch from there? I would think a 6:30 dinner would give you plenty of time with no worries about rushing dinner.

There is a spot to watch from Contemporary- just from the parking lot I thinkbut I've read in more than one thread that it has great viewing. 6:30 sounds about right, thanks! See, I still have much to learn from the master. ;)

Thanks Ann! I missed your post earlier. :)

I double checked about viewing from Contemporary and apparently there is a balcony/observation deck on the fourth floor that pipes in the music! :cool1:

I think we'll plan on this and then we won't have to rush at 1900 PF the following night. Of course GF marina will still be in my contingency plan. :rolleyes1

Gah, parents! My dad has decided he isn't sure about Ohana- I should have just picked a place for them but instead I printed out menus for all of the places I thought they'd like so they could pick. Mom left it completely up to Dad since he is the picky eater. The problem is that he saw pork loin on the menu at Ohana and said, "Yep, that sounds good," without bothering to look at what they offered for sides and dessert. When I pointed it out to him he realized that the meat might just be the only thing he wanted so he changed his mind. It really is fine and no big deal at all since I can't make my ADRs until March but still, doesn't he realize I have charts and tables and graphs that I have to change now. :rolleyes1

I have the check for the lottery money but still no reservation. I guess I forgot to take into consideration that just because we have the money now doesn't necessarily mean my parents will so we're still waiting a few weeks so they can recover from Christmas, taxes, etc. I was still itching to do something for my trip though so I ordered my new walking shoes. I haven't bought good, supportive shoes in over 10 years so I figured it was time.

I did my research with the shoes, scouring the boards here at the dis and then reading reviews on amazon and other sites. I finally settled on the Ventura canvas Keens. ALL of the reviews are good on these shoes which was rare in my research. There was usually at least one person who didn't like a shoe for one reason or another but the Ventura seemed to be praised universally. I also picked them because while they aren't the cutest shoes I've ever bought they also aren't ugly (as lots of really comfortable shoes are). Finally, the price was right- I got them for under $50 including shipping. I should have them in a couple of days!

The reviews say that these shoes are good right out of the box but I'm glad to be getting them in time to break them in and test them out. Karen and I are going to start walking three times a week so I'll let you know if they are as great as they seem. It is freezing here, snow last night in fact and it is soooo tempting to put off our first walk which is supposed to be tomorrow but I'm afraid if we wait for warm we'll never start!

Oh, almost forgot- here (http://www.sierratradingpost.com/Product.aspx?baseno=2070W&plp=Keen_Ventura_Canvas_Shoes_-_For_Women&utm_source=Shopzilla_BizRate&utm_medium=PaidShopping&utm_term=Keen_Ventura_Canvas_Shoes_-_For_Women&utm_campaign=PCZILLAUS9&codesProcessed=true) is a link for the shoes if anyone is interested- I got the Sahara/Natural but was really torn between those and the Iguana/Natural since I LOVE green. I settled for the safe neutral mostly because I live on a gravel road and I figured they wouldn't show dirt as badly when I start walking out here.

Walking in the snow doesn't sound that great to me either! Why are we doing this again? Oh yes, b/c it's good for us. Remind me of that tomorrow when we are freezing our arses off! ;) The shoes look interesting, can't wait to see if you like them!

Too bad we don't have a mall to walk in! I've been racking my brain for FREE indoor place (so, NOT the Centre, lol) we could walk when its cold or rainy but haven't come up with any ideas. *sigh*

Okay, I just ordered more shoes! In my defense I was only going to look at the crocs flip flops for water shoes and they were having BOGOs on their already marked down shoes with free shipping! I got Kya and I both a pair for $15- and hers have MICKEY HEADS (http://www.crocs.com/crocs-disney-minnie-mouse-mary-jane/10163-66E-420,default,pd.html?cgid=outlet-women&sid=w)instead of the regular holes!!!! Honestly, I wouldn't have bought them today if it wasn't for the Mickey heads being so cheap and the only size available just happened to be a size up from where she is now so will fit in the fall. Okay, I must stop shoe shopping!

ETA: I found black and red mickey heads in Jace's size- now I'm really done, lol. I was going to just not get mine so I was still only spending $15 but for some reason the men's Mickey heads weren't bogos??? Oh well, three pairs of shoes for $30 isn't too bad! I'm waiting to give the kids theirs right before we go (One more thing in their goody bags- more on that later ;) ) so that they won't be worn out- crocs need to be new to be comfy, not broken in and I want them both to have comfy shoes!

Okay, this post is one of those confessions mentioned in the title of this thread... you are about to see just how obsessed I truly am. ;)

After spending so much time fine tuning and perfecting my park days and ADRs I was pretty much sucked in... or so I thought! My next venture was to wander over to the DISign boards. Now, Karen had sent me a few other links to the dis for restaurant and resort reviews but I'd remained a lurker for those. So when she sent me a link to the DISign boards I didn't give it a second thought... :rolleyes1

I was GLUED to the computer for DAYS- I had to tear myself away so the kids could use it sometimes and I would stay up VERY late because I just needed to find one more thing! :surfweb: T-shirts were my obsession and I emerged with a plan to make FORTY shirts. The kids have enough that they will have to wear more than one per day! I did eventually scale back a little when I started thinking about buying all of those t-shirt transfers and shirts but not much... my current plan inlcludes 35 shirts and two pillowcases. I will make a couple of the shirts for mom and I last so if I run out of transfers I won't have to buy another pack. Really as long as the kids have their shirts that's all that matters but they would like for us to match them so if I have the transfers we will- at least part of the time. I even talked my dad and Robbie into joining in for a couple of the shirts. :cool2:

I should also probably confess that I have three MWord tables to help me keep track of all of these shirts. I have one table that outlines the disigns for each person, one that outlines what color shirt the disigns will go on and one that outlines what color shirt each person needs. I know, I know, obsess much? :rotfl2:

This is what I have planned for us... (I'll post pics later when I actually start making the shirts) I put this in italics so that you can skip to the bottom if reading about shirt designs isn't your cup of tea :thumbsup2

Day 1: The kids will both have pillowcases for traveling. Jace's pillowcase says "We're going to Disneyworld today!" and Kya's has Tiana next to a Mickey Head that says "I'm almost there" I haven't decided what color pillowcases to use because I'm going to scour the clearance aisle. Probably light blue, light green, or white depending on what I find.

Day 2: We're going to Epcot WS and I have "Around the world in a day" shirts for the kids, mom and myself to put on light yellow shirts. Robbie will have a "Conquering the world, one beer at a time" shirt with Grumpy. It's a similar design to ours and has a circle of Mickey Heads filled with flags. My dad will have a shirt with Grumpy that says "I don't do matching shirts... unless my grandkids ask me to." I'm not really sure if he'll wear it on this day or not, but since the rest of us will have matching shirts I'm thinking maybe. The guys shirts will be black

Day 3: Going to DHS, Jace will have Aaron Stone name fill on a blue shirt, Kya Hannah Montana name fill on a pink shirt. Nothing for the adults that day.

Day 4: Magic Kingdom- this is the big day that we all have matching shirts! We have a shirt with 6 pirate Mickey heads that says "We be together" and the pirate MHs with our names for the front pocket of the shirt. These are going on white shirts. That evening the kids are going with my parents while Robbie and I have a night to ourselves so I got a disign for them to wear to dinner that says "I have something to celebrate, I'm seeing the World with my grandparents!" For my parents it says grandkids instead of grandparents. These are going on navy shirts.

Day 5: Epcot FW- We're meeting up with Karen and her daughter so the girls have shirts to wear with Tink and Silvermist that say "Friends make life magical" Jace has a Lego Star Wars shirt to wear that day. I'm thinking some shade of green for these shirts. Again, nothing for the adults on this day. This is one of the places I scaled back because I was going to make shirts for us to wear to Wishes that night but decided against it.

Day 6: Blizzard Beach- Jace picked out a Disign with Phinneas and Ferb surfing that seems appropriate for the water park. Kya will have a Wizards of Waverly place shirt, both on royal blue. Nothing for the adults that day but in the evening Robbie, the kids and I are going to Chef Mickey's while my parents go to dinner. The four of us will wear Mickey heads to CM. Kya's has a tiara and an eye patch and says "A little bit pirate, a little bit princess" Jace's has a jedi mickey, Robbie's has Grumpy (again, ) and mine is a pink kind of graphic designed MH. Those are all going on brown shirts.

Day 7: Animal Kingdom- The kids, mom and myself will have tan shirts with a circle of MH filled with various animal prints. There are also names with characters in safari clothes and the names filled with animal print for the sleeves or front pocket area. That night we're going to Park Fare for dinner. Mom (who still dyes her hair platinum) will have shirt with Cinderalla looking over her shoulder and says "Gentlemen prefer blondes" I'll have a glass slipper on a black background that says "The right shoes can change your life" Kya's will say the same thing as mine but hers will have Cinderella on it instead of just a glass slipper. I tried to come up with a shirt for Jace and did have some ideas but nothing I thought he'd actually ever wear again so he's getting a star wars name fill instead of something PF themed. All of these are going on sky blue shirts.

I also had a couple of shirts for mom and I that didn't match anything else but thought I'd put on the same color shirt the kids were wearing but this is where I "scaled back"

Of course Kya also has lots of shirts with Disney characters she wants to bring with her so she may be changing even more than the rest of us. :rotfl:

It's definately a long list... perhaps a *touch* obsessive :lmao: but I finally finished so now I could walk away from the DISign boards... but wait what about those goody bags I mentioned earlier :rolleyes1

Oh but you forgot the tie dye shirts we are going to make this summer! Fit those in your chart! :hippie:

All right, now you guys are just ganging up on me! I admitted right from the beginning I was obsessive, no need to poke fun.

Oooh, tie-dye- I wasn't going to attempt it but if you're going to teach me then sign me up! We can wear them on the plane- see, it all fits in nicely. And you can pretend to be less obsessed than me but I know the truth!! :rotfl2:

I'm frustrated this morning because I slept in after staying up to welcome the new year and now I can't get us signed up for the give a day, get a day program. The website keeps timing out and won't load properly because they are so bombarded with people trying to sign up. Honestly we don't need the tickets since we're buying multi-day tickets with the homeschool discount so it isn't a huge issue. I wanted the special fast pass but I also wanted the experience. I think it will be good for the kids to do some service and this is a good motivator to get them started. I'll keep trying and hopefully eventually get us signed up for something!

I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year's Eve and wish you all peace in the new year! :goodvibes

Hope, at least you saw the ball drop.......we were all up until about 11:50pm. Victoria was the first to crash and I followed shortly thereafter!!! What's really funny is that at 11:40pm I said "wouldn't it be too bad if we fell asleep now??" Yeah, I think I should have keep quiet!:rotfl:

My t-shirts are all covered with elastics and ready to dye. I am so hoping they come out well. I think I'm doing the Mickey in lime green and then just go for it with the rest of the colors....I don't know. I wanted to do it today, but I had the animal cages to clean out as they were getting smelly!! :guilty: I think I'm going to have to go on baby alert again.....I think Mama rabbit is pregnant again. Don't get me wrong, I do have them seperated but when Victoria had some friends over, they thought the rabbits would like to play together! Yeah, I'm sure they did! It's hard to tell if a rabbit is pregnant, but she is showing signs. :sad2: I'll keep you posted!!!:yay:

01-02-2010, 07:43 AM
That is hilarious that the kids wanted the rabbitts to play! Not so funny when you have lots of baby bunnies but the idea of it. :lmao:

I FINALLY got us signed up for a day of service. Since we live a very rural area it is a bit of a drive but that's okay. When you live this far out you just get used to having to drive to do everything. Anyway, we'll be making paper flowers and cards to be distributed to nursing homes. We'll be there on MLK Day along with Karen and her crew.

I feel like a tag along since she picked it first but there were just limited opportunities for kids under 10 and this was the closest one to us so she'll just have to put up with us!

-Hope-
01-02-2010, 09:52 AM
Back again, I just can't seem to stay away.

I didn't sleep much last night (I have periodic insomnia) I am BORED- surfed the web and cleaned the house as much as I can and it is WAAAAAY to cold to go outside (SEVEN degrees! :scared1: ). So, at the risk of being called obsessive I thought I'd come share some more of my plans. :goodvibes

While I was in the midst of t-shirt planning I also had another iron in the fire- my park plans! I knew what days would keep the lines short but Karen was also giving me advice about what order to see things so we'd barely see lines at all. I gotta say, it really helps to have dis obsessed friend IRL.

So, Karen lent me her copy of Passporters and I also found two books at the used bookstore- Birnbaum's from 2006 and Disney World with Kids from 2002. Although some of the info was out of date I was really glad to have the DW w/ Kids because it gives a detailed description of each ride and attraction. The kids and I looked through these together (well, Jace wasn't as interested as Kya and I but he answered questions when I asked) and I was able to determine what we wanted to see and what we could skip. I then showed these to Karen and she gave me advice about what to do first, what route to take, etc.

I also ordered (again, after Karen told me about it- noticing a pattern here? And she says I'M the obsessed one :lmao: ) the free customized maps from Disney. They let you pick the rides and attractions you are interested in and send a map with those things marked and it is personalized with your family name. Very cool souvenir and also a great tool for deciding our route in the park.

So, now I have a loose itenerary for each park. I know where we will start, which rides have fastpass, what other attractions are nearby while we wait for return times on our fastpasses and what CS and snacks are available in each area of all the parks. I plan on laminating all of this info on an index card so I can carry it with me into the park. I haven't made these yet though because I want to wait until closer to time to leave and get parade, show, and fireworks schedules.

I know that some may find this too much of a plan and argue that it's better to go with the flow. I guess that's okay for some people but we'll have more fun if we aren't waiting in long lines, trying to decide what places have food we like when we're already hungry and if we know we didn't miss out on something we would have really enjoyed. I won't be militant- the itenerary is a loose guide, not a militant plan that must be followed to the minute. (except rope drop, they better be up and out the door for rope drop!) If we see interesting things or characters we want to meet we'll stop and do that, if we're hungry we'll eat, if someone needs to rest we will. What we won't do is wander aimlessly around the park and just hope we find things that look fun. That would NOT be fun for me at all! (And if mamma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy ;) )

I also came up with a budget during this time- I included: room, tickets, refillable mugs, tips (room and dining), airfare, airport parking, missed wages (I only included what we need to pay bills not our grocery, gas, and spending money for the week), and souvenirs/misc. We're hoping for free dining as is historically done in September so we didn't budget for food. We will send some snacks ahead but since we'd normally have to eat anyway this isn't above and beyond our regular budget so not included. I must admit when I added it all up I had a bit of a shock, its doable but ack, it looks like a lot all in one place like that! I have to keep reminding myself that I have time to save, which I do (plus some lotter money :cheer2: ).

I'll post our park plans and budget in a seperate post so you don't have to dig through it if you don't want- I'm just copying and pasting from Word so hopefully the format will transfer okay.

-Hope-

I am much more rested today! I was actually able to sleep last night, probably from sheer exhaustion! Anyhoo, today is looking much better. :thumbsup2

I figured I've shared so much from this big ol' bag of crazy I've got that I might as well show you the rest. You've heard about my need for perfect schedules and ADRs, my obsession with t-shirts, and all the rest so now I'll share with you... the goody bags AKA my efforts to spread the magic. :tink:

When I finished my t-shirt plans I was so deeply sucked into the disign boards that I just kept going... I had planned to make a simple autograph book from index cards but one with characters is soooo much cuter, right? Then I wanted to make passports for epcot. And lets not forget the pressed penny money tubes. Then I found the Mickey head character notes. :dance3: They are gift tags with notes from various characters and they are oh so cute! :hyper:

Well, the gift tags got me thinking... wouldn't it be fun if the kids were suprised by some of this stuff, and wouldn't it be even more fun if they got their suprises while we were at WDW with a note from a character! Well, all of this thinking evolved into the goody bags. :rolleyes1 The first goody bag they'll get the day we leave and it is going to have lots of stuff in it, some they'll know about before hand, some they won't. It includes:

Disney pillowcases (that I mentioned in the t-shirt post)
lanyards with trading pins- I'm getting these on eBay since they'll be trading and it won't matter which pins they start with as long as they're official tradable pins
a journal made with pages found on the disign boards
disney pens and markers
money envelopes- also found on the disign boards and will have their spending money in them
autograph book
window clings- I'm hoping to find some of these at a dollar store, if not then back to the disign boards
passport
Mickey head crocs
snack tickets- we'll each have 3 extra snack credits on the DDP and I had tickets disigned so they could have freedom with it but I'd still be able to easily keep track

Karen is also making them an activity book for traveling. :lovestruc

Each day after that they'll be getting an itinerary to attach to their lanyards (on cute mickey head borderd paper of course), an invitation to that days ADR (found on the disign boards), and a t-shirt or other small gift. These will have the character note gift tags attached. By getting a goody bag each morning they'll (hopefully) be excited about hopping out of bed and we'll get to rope drop on time. The itineraries are for my sanity as much as anything. I figure if they have a list of the order we'll be doing things then they won't be asking me all day what's next. I'm also hoping that seeing the list of what we're doing will build up some anticipation and get everyone excited for the day. I'm hoping to hold off what our dining plans will be each day until they get the invitation so it will be a fun surprise. I'm also hoping that I can keep some of the t-shirts a surprise; some they already know about and they'll help with the tie-dye but I'm really trying to keep the rest under wraps. We'll see...

On day 2, our first park day, they already know about the shirts they'll be wearing so they are getting their pressed penny money tubes. If you're not familiar it is an M&M tube filled with quarters and pennies for those pressed penny souvenir machines. My kids love those and this will be fun. I've been warned not to bring them pre-loaded though because the money in a tube looks suspiscious when x-rayed and could cause hold ups at security. They say the same thing about bringing rolls of change so I'm not sure yet how I'm bringing this money- baggies?? :confused3

Day three they'll get their name fill shirts, day 4 their grandparent shirts. Day 5 is when we're going to see Spectro/Wishes so they'll get glow necklaces. Day 6 the Mickey head shirts, Day 7 the Park Faire shirts.

On day 8, our return travel day, I plan on either leaving them a special souvenir that they eyed during the week or giving them money to get something at DTD. It really depends on our flight info and what we have time for.

So, that's it. Not too over the top, right?:rotfl:

awesome plans, Hope!!! My ties dyes came out ok. I love Victoria's as it came out great with lots of color. I did mine first and it's more white than anything else. I did mine first and I think I was afraid to run the colors onto the Mickey head itself. I still like it, Victoria's is just better! :confused3 I've been a busy little bee, too. I've done my Mousekeeping & tip envelopes and tonz of lime green Mickey heads to attach to my backpack and waist pouch! Victoria thinks I'm obsessed! If she only knew! :rotfl: Heck, we just got dumped on with 2 feet of snow this weekend, so I was stuck inside for 3 days!!! The neighbor came over to plow.....he was probably laughing at my kept getting the snowblower stuck! It was that heavy, wet snow that's impossible to move!

Thanks Ann! I have mousekeeping and dining envelopes saved on my computer! I know you're shocked. :rotfl2:

Glad to hear your t-shirts came out- I know what you mean about being tentative with the first one, that's why I'm glad I'll be making mine with someone who's BTDT.

It's good to have good neighbors. :thumbsup2

Hi Hope, subbing in! I am the crazy person that talked Karen into doing a PTR after reading her TR. So since she blames me for all this, I guess you can blame me too:lmao: Great start although it looks pretty well finished to me. Now me, I am going in July and need to make ADRs next month and have not even checked with "Mike" on what the "green" days are. Boy do I have some work ahead of me.! I kind of like to spread it out, otherwise if I do everything too early, I keep going back and making changes which makes me and hubby crazy! Keep up the good work!:wizard:

Hi Gina and welcome! Honestly I can blame others for my obsession all I want but the truth is I just love planning and with WDW and the DIS there is so much to plan that it's easy to get sucked in. :surfweb: Just don't tell Karen, I like to keep her thinking it's all her fault. :rolleyes1

It does seem that I have pretty much everything done... which is why I started a PTR to begin with... I'd run out of things to plan and was itching for something trip related to do so I just figured I'd tell other people what I'd been up to. :rotfl: I'm at a bit of a "What now?" stage to be honest. I do have a to do list that is sorted by month so I can try to pace myself a bit. Things like making ADRs, printing out the journals, making the shirts, etc.

Last month I printed and made the kids spending money envelopes and their pressed penny tubes. This month I'm booking the rooms and scouring the dollar store for gift bags and window clings. I have a WDW tub that I keep stuff in as I go (guess who I learned that from :lmao: ) and will just keep adding to it as I finish things. So, I guess I have the plans done its just putting those plans into action that I have to do now... and that just isn't nearly as much fun for me so hopefully reporting back and posting pics of my progress to you guys will keep me motivated to get it all done and not put everything off until the last minute! :goodvibes

Back again! Less than 10 minutes after I made my last post my Keens were delivered! I was soooo excited until I opened the box and realized they'd sent me the wrong color. :sad1: I looked over the invoice and checked my email confirmation and they both said I should have gotten the sahara which is a dark tan but these are black. :confused3 I considered just keeping them but since they are canvas the black almost looks denim and they won't look good with jeans since it would be two differnt shades of denim. On the up side Sierra Trading Post has a great return/exchange policy and they're shipping them to me right away (even before they get these back!) free of charge and the return shipping is also free.

I went ahead and tried them on to see how they feel and they seem promising! A lot of people said they'd be great right out of the box without breaking them in but the canvas seems a little stiff around the heel so I think breaking them in will be necessary. All in all though I'm impressed- they accomodate my wide feet without slipping around and also support my high arches. Hopefully these will pamper my feet while I'm walking around the World (and with Karen if it ever gets warm enough for us to walk!).

I also went ahead and took some pics of the kid's money envelopes and penny tubes to share... like I said I'm a much better planner than implementer and if I'm sharing my progress as I go it will hopefully motivate me to actually carry out all these grand plans.

Kya's stuff: Hannah Montana, Fairies, and High School Musical

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_8776.jpg

Jace's stuff: Lego Star Wars, Phinneas and Ferb, and Jedi Mickey

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_8779.jpg

I went ahead and made two envelopes in the hopes that we'll have time for them to shop for themselves on the last day- if not though then I know Mom will want to give them some money and she can use the extras. :goodvibes

ETA: I just got off the phone with Sierra Trading Post (there was an issue with the online exchange) and the woman on the phone was very thankful to me for being so polite and understanding about the error and just as we were about to hang up she threw in a $10 gift certificate. My grandma always said you catch more flies with honey! :)

Sorry about the sneaks it stinks when you are waiting for something and it comes in wrong! That was good about the gift certificate - I always try to remember that the CS I am speaking with did not pack my box so don't take my anger out on her. That does not always work but it sounds good in theory!

Love the money envelopes - how did you do that? No wait don't tell me then I will get started with all that stuff, hmmmm good Easter basket stuff?? Last year I scrapbooked pages for each of my girls and framed them with their favorite princesses, planes, tix etc. and the dates for our trip - that's how I told them! They were so excited and now they have them hanging on their walls. Oh so tell me....

I was thinking of doing something like a pillowsheet for autographs, but I don't want to have to carry around a clipboard at the park. Seems like it would end up a better souvenir though. Maybe we can make a collage from the autograph books & pics this time and frame it?

I try to remember the same thing when dealing with CS- I was a checker at Wal-mart during college and was amazed at how mad people could get when stuff didn't scan correctly- I had NOTHING to do with putting prices into the computer! I try to remember that when I'm dealing with people.

I got the envelopes from a thread on the DISign boards. I got these from mcraft17's thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1755694&highlight=envelopes)but Natalie (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2225095) also has a lot of great stuff- but be warned before you go there that it is ADDICTIVE! :surfweb:

I saw the pillowcases, they are cute and I thought about them as well (especially since I'm already making pillowcases) and I like the simplicity of the pillowcase but I think in the long run something with the pics with the characters will be more special.

I'd planned to make the autograph pages with enough space at the top to cut them out easily so we can make a scrapbook or something when we get home OR just leave one side of the page blank so we could put the pics directly in the autograph book. I like the collage idea too though so now, I'm not sure. :confused3

Okay, very slight change in plans (which those of you following Karen's PTR already read about, lol). We aren't planning to do MNSSHP but she is and there are certain things that will be way more fun for the girls (and us!) to do together. BB and a KP Mission at WS were things we definately wanted the girls to do together so when Karen needed to change her plans for MNSSHP we needed to adjust as well. It was actually a pretty welcome challenge because I needed something Disney to do today. :rotfl:

So, the new schedule (changes in bold):

Saturday September 25:
-Travel Day
-DTD & Disney Quest*
-S (1) lunch
-take water taxi to POFQ for CS (1) dinner @ Sassagoula Floatworks

Sunday September 26:
-sleep in, breakfast in room
-World Showcase @ 11:00
-TS (1) @ Biergarten for late lunch
-Cantina de San Angel for CS (2) dinner and drinks
-Illuminations (watch from Cantina patio- arrive about an hour early)

Monday September 27:
-DHS* rope drop, breakfast in room
-Sci-fi Diner TS (2) lunch
-back to resort to swim/relax
-Cosmic Ray’s CS (3) dinner
-Wishes/Spectro*

Tuesday September 28:
-Crystal Palace Character Breakfast TS (3)
-MK rope drop
-S (2) lunch, back to resort
- Robbie and I to Big River Grille, Planet Hollywood for kids, mom, and dad TS (4)

Wednesday September 29:
-sleep in, CS (4) breakfast at Pepper Market or ASM
-Blizzard Beach*, S (3) lunch at BB
-Chef Mickey’s TS (5) Mom and Dad may want a night off

Thursday September 30:
-Epcot: Future World* rope drop, breakfast in room
-Sunshine Seasons* CS (5) lunch with Karen
-Kim Possible Mission with Karen, break
-CS (6) dinner at ASM or Pepper Market

Friday October 1:
-Tusker House Character Breakfast TS (6)
-AK rope drop
-S (4) lunch, back to resort to rest/swim (Karen @ F&W- Savannah may want to come back and swim with us)
-1900 Character Dinner TS (7)
-Wishes from Marina at GF

Saturday October 2:
-CS (7) breakfast at ASM
-use any left over snack credits- can take these with us for trip home!
-check out by 11 am
-travel home

Pretty simple, just swapped FW and BB days and moved Spectro/Wishes to Monday. I think I like this new schedule better because it gives us a day to sleep in during the week instead of being up early for rope drop or an ADR three days in a row. :goodvibes

I'm giggling at all the folks that are probably seeing double when they read both our PTRs! I like the new itinerary as well, it works out better for us to have a sleep in day on Wednesday and when I moved my ADRs around it ended up better as well b/c now we have 1 TS a day and before there were 2 days with 2 and 2 days with none! I'm glad to see that my craziness helped you out. :p

Fellow obsessive planner here, joining in the fun! popcorn:: I'm going to keep this window open while I read all your updates, so this post will bounce around a bit....

Your trip dates are exactly the same as mine were last year. We had SO much fun. It was hot, but not scorching, and the crowds weren't bad at all. We had Free Dining and LOVED it!

That is awesome about the lotto!! Too cool!

Your ADR's look great! You really can't wrong with a buffet when trying to please a lot of different palates. :thumbsup2 I had a ton of stuff delivered by GG....and ended up leaving most of it for another DISer that was checking into the same resort the day after we left. We just didn't end up eating in the room much. :confused3 But it is always better to be prepared! :goodvibes

Those shoes are really cute! I bought Crocs flip-flops to wear last year, but didn't break them in first and ended up with really painful blisters on both feet on the second day. So I bought some Mickey head regular Crocs at Mouse Gears and wore those the rest of the week. :thumbsup2

The pillowcases and shirts sound super cute! Can't wait for pics! Love the envelopes and penny tubes! I can't wait until my kids are old enough for stuff like that.

Whew! I think I'm caught up. Now just waiting on another update..... ;)

Hi Julia! Welcome to my obsession!

Wondering about the crocs- everyone says NOT to break in crocs before because they are better new. Is it just the flip flops that need broken in because of the thing between the toe?

We won't have much delivered maybe just a bit of beer for dad and Robbie to relax with on slow evenings and maybe 1/2 gallon of milk for our breakfasts in the room. I do want to be prepared but also want to stick to the budget. I figure having reasonable priced beer will HELP the budget way more than it will hurt it, lol.

Yes, I think it is just the flip flops that need to be broken in first. I didn't have any problems with my new Mickey ones. ITA about the reasonably priced beer!! We didn't buy any last year, but my SIL did, and I remember it being a bit outrageous! I admittedly went way overboard with my GG order last year. Oh well, live and learn, right? :thumbsup2

just found your PTR--our dates are overlapping--we'll be there from 9-28 to 10-9. I'm an obsessive planner too, lol. Most of it worked out and we just went with the flow when it didnt' work out, lol. your plan for the park looks great but be prepared for issues with the toy story riding in the am. We were there about a month ago at rope drop and the line for TSM was INSANE not to mention that the fast pass line was just as bad as the actual ride and by 10 am the Fast pass line was giving out return fast passes for a return time of 8pm at night--we didn't do the fast pass because it locked up all our fast passes for the day until 8pm, so that might be something you want to consider The standby times for TSM went from 45 minutes to 2 hours and that's supposed to be a SLOW season:confused3 We were at HS three different days and never did get to ride it because we weren't willing to wait that long in standby or wait till the end of the night to ride it....

How does the homeschool tickets work with the free dining promotion? Do they let you have both discounts or are you paying out of pocket for the Dining plan? I know that they wouldn't let me do a double discount on our December vacation, but that was a free dining pin and discounted room rate, so is it different for the homeschool discount? I'd love to do the discounted tickets since we're considering starting GenevaClaire in Homeschool this year rather than sending her to public school kindergarten-
but we're not sure, it depends on how they transistion her from her special preschool into kindy--so we have to wait till May till they do the meeting to see what services they can provide her or if we'll do homeschool and private therapy sessions

First of all, WELCOME!!

Wow, that really stinks about TSM! We have already planned that one of the adults will wait in FP lines if necessary- my parents are really going more for the experience of being with the grandkids than for the rides so if we go ride something while they wait in a FP line they will be okay with that. Also we are doing the Give a day, get a day volunteer program and since we'll already have a multi-day ticket we may get the special FP. :cheer2: Out of curiosity was this the same time of year that this happened? And were you there on a green day according to TGM? Trying to think of all the contingencies.

As for the free dining and HS tickets- My uber organized partner in crime has found a loophole.:worship: We are buying a one day MYW ticket at full price with our room booking. Technically we aren't using any discounts and will then be eligible for free dining for every night of our stay. We'll buy the homeschool tickets seperately and use them for the rest of the week. :thumbsup2

As for your dd you should ask them what services are available if you choose homeschooling for K. Our school district is required to provide services through age 7 regardless of school enrollment because 7 is the age of compulsory education in MO but 3 is the age that federal law says children are eligble for special services. So, from age 3-7 the kids can be brought into school just for therapy if they live in the district even if not enrolled. Every state and district has different policies so you'll have to talk with them when you meet in May- although you don't necessarily have to wait that long. (I used to be a Sp.Ed. teacher, lol) The school is required to call a meeting annually but parents can request additional meetings at any time. Good luck, whatever you decide! :goodvibes

Thanks so much for the info about the school providing svcs I'll check NC laws and see if it's the same here. The OT we're dealing with now thru the school is a nightmare she's not doing anything that I have requested and I even took an IEP advocate in with me this December for her annual meeting. Still haven't seen much happen that was supposed to since that meeting...

that's a cool loophole, does it save a bunch of money? I'm not sure if it would help us or not, we've got 10 day park hoppers--which they told me is the cheapest ticket price possible? I need to sit down and do the math and figure it out to see which would be better if we do go the homeschooling route after her transistion meeting this spring.

About HS, yep all days were green days, DD cannot tolerate large crowds, too many sensory issues, so all days were Green in our travel plan.Plus the first part of December is really slow according to TGM and UG-- It was crazy, I couldn't believe the line for both FP and the actual ride. So we've promised DD that we'll do it this time, even if her and her daddy stay somewhere else and play while I go wade thru the crazy FP line and we'll just have to plan to come back at whatever time it is, regardless of when or she's not going to be a happy camper, lol.

We're doing the GAD program too, but DD isn't old enough to actually qualify for the free ticket/FP, but DH and I will both have a FP so we can have one at MK and then another at DHS so that may fix the problem for TSM, I can only hope.

Ahh, snow days leave me with too much time on my hands...

The house is clean, it's waaaaay to cold to play in the snow for very long, nothing on tv, roads are still TERRIBLE so I'm checking out the dis. Again. :surfweb:

Now, this can be problematic for an obsessive planner because there are so many good ideas floating around. Soooo... :rolleyes1

I think we're going to do some Disney movie themed activities leading up to our trip. This thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1707141&highlight=Disney+Movie+Night)is AMAZING! So, I made a list and I have 61 movies that I'd like us to watch! :faint: No way even I can pull that off! I have 37 weeks until our trip so I'm going to shoot for one a week with the themed activities. We may watch more this winter while we're stuck inside since we have lots of options on Netflix not to mention that my mom has an EXTENSIVE Disney movie library. We'll only do one theme day per week though so I'm going to try to focus on things I think they'll see at the park but haven't necessarily seen the corresponding movie... like Tom and Huck, Swiss Family Robinson, Haunted Mansion, etc. I'm going to try ot keep it simple. I might try to incorporate some learning into the themes too... just don't tell my kids! :p

We'll be getting UP! from Netflix in a couple of days and since my mom's house is about the only place I can get to in the weather (she lives next door) I'm going to go raid her movie cabinet. :goodvibes

The movie themes will be this color so easily spotted and I'll make a seperate TOC in the first post. And just when I though I'd gotten as nutty as humanly possible. :rotfl:

and the student surpasses the master. :worship:

I had thought about movie night each week, but my boys would be horrified. I said we could do this and suggested Pirates of the Caribbean. They asked what FOOD we would have that associated with it and I said tacos. Then they laughed and laughed.

Savannah & I could do it, but that wouldn't be as fun.

I think I'll keep posting in you PTR, it's much more interesting than mine!

I'm with you on the snow--DD has another day off from school because of snow here --it's super cold and not much fun for very long outside.
 You've not lost it you've just joined all the rest of his Disney addicts, lol. We did this last trip, but I didn't get all the activities planned that I wanted--so this time we have them all planned out in advance, DD chose the "order" that she wanted to see them in and I've got the duty of planning the food and the activities to go with each of them. We had planned on them being on the weekend but we're all stir crazy from being cooped up in the house with snow this week so Our first one is tonight--101 dalmatians--I hadn't planned a "learning" activity but that would be a great idea--I think I'll figure out a counting game with dog spots for tonight. See if you think this is goofy(no pun intended) we're making personal size puppy pizzas (DD cannot do the texture of hot dogs which was a cute idea if she would eat them) Dogbone sugar cookies, Dalmatian shakes (oreo shakes) and we're making our 4 dogs some dog bones from a recipe that I got on the internet. (the cats are going to feel so left out:lmao: we'll make it up to them when we do the aristocats movie)
Now I need to make up a counting game from puppy spots :) Plus we're going to decorate the table to match the theme for tonight :) I'm just waiting for her to wake up from nap and then it's time to start getting the house decorated

You can come and do it with us!! We're doing it during the day because Robbie already thinks I've lost it so I'm not dragging him in with me!

Hmmmm.... maybe one of our walking days could be a movie day too! Then maybe we'd actually start.

I'm pretty sure it was your PTR that gave me this idea and sent me in search of the movie theme thread. :thumbsup2

works for me!

BTW, I won't completely be convinced that you are officially a Disney nut until much later, I'm guessing a few days into the actual trip...when you start talking about the NEXT trip! I know, I know, once-in-a-lifetime...just keep telling yourself that. There's no way to do it all and you'll find yourself wondering about just coming back once more to do those things you missed or get those shots that didn't come out right. Mark my word! :p

You may be right... I don't think I am a Disney nut just yet... more like an obsessive planning nut and there is just so much info (and so many pushers, lol) out there for Disney that it fuels that obsession.

I do find myself looking at pics of the castle all decorated up for Christmas and thinking it would be so great to see that... but you know I love to go to new places too so we'll see...

Hi Hope,

I just found your PTR and I'm enjoying is very much. My trip in 2009 was the same time as yours will be. We were there from September 26th through October 3rd. It was wonderful. Be prepared to want to go back. I thought it was a once in a liftime kind of trip too. But now we are planning on going back in either December 2010 or January 2011.:cheer2:

I love all your t-shirt ideas. I could only convince my family to wear matching t-shirts on one day. One thought on your t-shirt plans.....the weather in Orlando for September and October is really hot and humid. The darker colors might be really uncomfortable.

WELCOME!!! :goodvibes

As for the dark colored shirts- the guys are picky so some of their shirts are darker- I've tried to make ours lighter colors unless we are wearing them at night. The guys :confused3 I've tried to convince them they need lighter colors but they don't listen well. Good advice though- I'll keep working on them! :thumbsup2

I'm sure that I'll want to go back! What I'm waiting to see is if I'll want to go back more than I'll want to go other places. :rotfl: I love to travel and love to go new places- the kids and I have a goal to visit all 50 states and I have my own goal to visit all 6 inhabitable continents. So far I've only been to two continents and nine states (drive throughs don't count!) and the kids have also been to two continents but only six states. I KNOW we are going to love WDW and will want to go back but I don't know if I'll love it enough to give up EVER seeing some other places, KWIM? It is a BIG world out there and I want to see as much of it as possible! :sail:

Cute smiley! ;)

Jodi, you'll have to tell us all about that week! How busy were the restaurants? How about the parks? Wait times? Did you use TGM or UG? How busy was F&W? (we will be there on opening day so I know it will probably be crazy, but it's our last park day and my dh loves f&w) Where did you stay? Were the buses long waits? Do you think that is enough questioning?

We have our first movie day planned! Tuesday Karen and I are (FINALLY!) going to be able to start walking. We found an indoor place to walk near her house and were supposed to start this week but the snow came and has had me trapped! But this week we get to start walking and we will do our first movie day after our first walk! :cool1:

I'm super excited because I haven't seen UP! yet and have been just dying to. I found some fun snacks and activities to go with the theme and will share those pics with you guys after our party. If you read Karen's PTR you may already know that we both also love amateur photography so I'm sure we'll both have some great pics to share!

I found all of the ideas on the family fun site. We'll be having cupcakes arranged to look like a bunch of balloons, piercing a balloon without popping it and making adventure books to earn 'badges'. I can hardly wait!

I've found that most cartoons, especially Disney, have sad and/or scary parts and I'm okay with that. Usually the kids just accept it as part of the story and on the rare occasion that they were uncomfortable/upset we just talked it through and they were fine. :thumbsup2

I went through all of mom's movies and she has a lot... I just have to hunt down a vcr to watch them on!

Woohoo! I finally got my shoes and they are the right color! :cool1: Sierra Trading Post is being mildly irritating with the return but nothing terrible. They said I wouldn't be charged return shipping since it was their error. I got my refund yesterday and they'd charged me return shipping. No big deal, I sent them an email last night and figured it would get resolved. They were quick, I had an email waiting for me when I woke up this morning. They apologized and gave me a refund of $2.20- the only problem is that they charged me $5.75. :confused3 I've sent another email and hopefully it will get taken care of. It wouldn't even be an issue except we only pay bills with our checking account and deposit EXACTLY what is needed to cover our checks and automatic withdrawls (we pay for everything else with cash). They are messing up my account balances and it's getting on my nerves!

Anyway... I got my shoes and love them! And just in time too since Karen and I are going for our first walk today! :cheer2:

Karen and I finally got to walk today at the rec center near her house and afterwards we headed over to her house for our first movie day. :happytv:

First, the walk- after walking for a while and my legs were already starting to feel itchy (a circulation thing that happens when I walk :confused3 ) Karen turns to me and says, "Okay, we've probably made it to World Showcase by now!" :scared1: I am sooooo out of shape that just walking to the park is wearing me out, much less actually being IN the park. It's a good thing we've got eight months to prepare!!

The movie was a lot of fun. Jace and I hadn't seen UP yet so we were really excited about it- and of course we weren't disappointed! What a great movie. I got teary eyed several times but overall it was cute and very uplifting. (Hah, no pun intended! :lmao: ) I found some great things online for the kids to do and it just made the day even more fun!

Of course because it was Karen and I we had to start with some pics of everything looking pretty- which Jace refused to be in (you'd think he was tired of getting his picture taken or something  )

Yay!!!!! (I've been sitting here hitting reload, waiting for you to post!)

We had a great time too and would LOVE to do it every week, but if you think it's too much, you must let me know! I feel guilty that you did all the prep work, making the booklets, printing, and making cupcakes. Maybe we should alternate weeks. Wait...you aren't going to stick me with Honey I Shrunk The Kids though b/c I already know there aren't any activities for that! :p

You got some good shots and were smart enough to bring your camera into the living room to get pics of them actually watching the movie! Sneaky! ;)

We can alternate weeks if you want but I really don't mind- it was fun putting everything together. :)

I'm thinking that we're just going to watch Honey I Shrunk the Kids and send it back for something a little more party friendly. I'll check out the movie day thread and see what looks like fun.

Thanks Julia! I know it will get better- it really wasn't so bad considering it was the first time I'd walked in a few months and before that it had been pretty sporadic.

I just have to say again how much I love my shoes! Yesterday I walked over to my parents (they live next door so a very short walk) but it was a muddy, slushy mess with all the snow melting so I wore some of my old shoes. In that short walk not only did my arches hurt but so did my lower back. I had none of those issues when I walked in my Keens. I think these shoes are going to make a huge difference in my motivation- well, my shoes and Karen. ;)

I haven't had the opportunity to post much lately- Jace is deep in the throes of creating a video game and he is on the computer A LOT!!! I'm hoping to get a Netbook soon so I don't have to share but we'll see- Disney is the first priority!! :thumbsup2

Karen and I have walked twice now and it feels great to be out there! I have some issues with my back that I usually just push through. This time when I felt it I stopped and stretched and it almost immediately went away- I even felt like walking another lap around the lake and the pain didn't return. :cool1:

The stretching made me think that perhaps my Wii Fit yoga a few days a week will help with the back pain so that's the new plan. I honestly LOVE Wii Fit yoga- I feel so great when I do it. For some reason though I rarely take the time to do it. :confused3 I have a goal now though- to be in tip top shape for WDW!! I think by focusing on how I feel and keeping in mind that the better I feel the more I'll get to see and do with my family then the more motivated I'll be to keep moving.

I've also been combing through the Disney movie nights thread and have found some really great ideas. It is really fun to get into the planning for our Disney days because there's more instant gratification. Coming up this week we'll be watching A Bug's Life which I haven't seen in a while. I'll post more about that later- with pics of course!:goodvibes

Our next few days are BUSY so don't be surprised if you don't hear much from me. Tomorrow I'm meeting with Karen and two other friends to plan for the homeschooling conference we're attending in a few weeks. Our four families (moms and kids, no dads) are driving up to Sandusky, OH in February for the Winter Waterpark Gathering at Kalahari Resort- home of a HUGE indoor waterpark. Monday we are doing King's day of service in O'Fallon (about 100 miles from us) for GAD (Karen and I ended up at the same place for this too since there are so few choices for kids under 10). Tuesday we have our Disney day followed by Kya's dance class. Karen, you may just be sick of me after this week!! :rotfl:

Whew, I'm tired just from looking at that but in all honesty I NEED it. I get testy being cooped up in the house so its good for me to stay busy! Hopefully next time I'll have some insights and pics to post from our GAD experience. :goodvibes

We did our GAD today! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

We signed up for King's Day of Service in O'Fallon about 2 hours from home.(Yep, for those of you reading Karen's PTR it was the same activity!) It was a great experience and it has me itching to do more volunteer work locally. I have a few ideas floating around in my head that I'm hoping to put into practice but one thing that we will definately be doing is volunteering to celebrate Martin Luther King Day every year. It just really struck me that the best way to honor a life of service is by serving others; not simply reading stories or watching videos about others who have served. Anyhoo... it was a great experience and I think WDW is really doing a great thing by encouraging people to get out and volunteer! :goodvibes

The cast today was the kids, my mom, and me. The GPS kept trying to take us in strange directions. This is why we call it Wanda... because sometimes you wanda around instead of going straight to where you want to be! Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we have it but sometimes yahoo maps is just really all you need.

We packed a lunch to eat in the car since it was such a long drive and we arrived at around 12:45. We met up with Karen in the parking lot and then went inside to get registered. We were then told to find a seat and we snagged the empty chairs at Karen's table- I hope she didn't mind us horning in on their family day because we didn't ask, just plopped ourselves down! The whole place seemed to fill up pretty quickly and I wondered how many people were there because of WDW- again, giving them props for inspiring so many people! :lovestruc

I got a few pics of the kids and the table while we waited for instructions...

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_8940.jpg

None of us were really sure what to do with all the tissue paper and pipe cleaners so we just waited for directions. At about 1:15 we got instructions on how to make the flowers. Others were instructed on card making and some registration packets they were putting together. The flowers turned out to be pretty simple once we got the hang of it but some of those early tries... :rolleyes1

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_8953.jpg

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_8970.jpg

We made A LOT of flowers! After a while everyone really started to get creative and some of them were turning out to be beautiful!

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_8977.jpg

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_8967.jpg

At around 2:30 we took a break and were offered chips and soda. While we were hanging out in the lobby Jace noticed a display case with a hole to reach through and touch the object inside. He wandered over to investigate and discovered that it was part of an I beam from the World Trade Center.

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_8983.jpg

After the break we went in to get back to work and the kids had decided they really wanted to move on from making flowers. The adults had decided we'd finally gotten the hang of this task and didn't want to learn another! Karen asked one of the women if there was room for the kids to work on cards and she enthusastically said yes- apparantly they really needed more cards so it was good she asked. :thumbsup2

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_8984.jpg

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_8988.jpg

We were supposed to stay until 5 but at about 3:30 they announced that we had surpassed expectations (and I'm sure they were running out of supplies) so we got to go home early! :woohoo:

It was a really great day and I'm so happy we took part in the GAD program! More than once I while making those flowers I was thinking about my great grandmothers who lived across the hall from each other in the residential care facility in our town. I remembered some of the crafty things they had in their rooms and them telling me about the people who brought them. I could tell then that they really appreciated the visits and the gifts brought were a daily reminder that someone had taken the time to come see them. I'm really proud to be a part of brightening someone else's grandma's day.

We had another movie day today! Our choice for this week was A Bug's Life.

We started off by walking at the park near Karen's house. It was a BEAUTIFUL day and we took full advantage of it! Even though we've only walked a few times I am finding myself looking forward to it already. It helps when the weather cooperates! After our walk we let the girls play at the park for a while and then headed over to Karen's for our fun activities! (Jace opted out this week so it was just us girls!)

The girls started off by decorating their faces with stickers. We were happily snapping pictures when they decided they needed a mirror so off they went to the bathroom- only to come back a few minutes later with all the stickers off the page but only one on their faces! The little tricksters thought they were getting by with something because they knew we wanted pics and they are both sick of posing for us!

After the sticker fun they made antenna with headbands, pipe cleaners and practice golf balls.

They had some fun 'talking' with their completed antennae. :rotfl:

The antenna were followed by egg carton caterpillars.

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9077.jpg

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9098.jpg

While the paint was drying on the caterpillars we had some snacks- spiders and two kinds of ladybugs!

Your shots came out nice! I have too many but I'm going to post them anyway! You aren't going to tell them of my valiant return of your camera that you forgot at my house?!?!?!? :rolleyes1

I'm so glad the weather was nice, I'm sure it will turn bad again so I'm glad we are getting out while we can!

I still can't BELIEVE I left my camera at your house!

I was rushing out the door to get Kya to dance and we were all worked up about issues in our homeschool co-op and I just left it there! It probably felt abandoned! I didn't even realize it until Karen called me (and rub it in that she would be posting her pics on the dis before me)! The worst part is that Karen and I live in neigboring towns but not the same town and to complicate it more Kya's dance class is ANOTHER neighboring town. Thank goodness Karen had to go to that town or I wouldn't have gotten my camera until Thursday! Woohoo, Karen saves the day! :woohoo::lovestruc

Hi hope, I'm just coming over from Karen's PTR, don't know why ,but I didn't realize you had one going to until I just read about it! :confused3 Your kids are adorable and that's really neat that you are going to disney with a friend. You guys are gonna have a blast!

Your bugs life movie night was super cute, I love the apple/peanut butter bugs, my girls would LOVE that. I may have to scoop up this idea!

Oh Disney, why must you change things?!? Yesterday several people, including Karen, received a pin code for free dining for mid-August to early October. This appears to be a good thing since it probably means these are the free dining dates that will be released to the public later. HOWEVER the pin code Karen got isn't for DDP it is for quick service. :confused3 It appears that Disney may be offering quick service dining to the value guests and ddp to the moderate and deluxe guests. At first this PANICED me!! We have a budget, I have my plans all laid out, HOW COULD THIS BE!!!

I'm in the process of adjustin my itenerary but I have a few questions for you guys.

1) Does anyone have an CS ideas for us for our DHS day? The reason we planned for Sci-fi was because I'd heard such awful thinks about CS at DHS. I wouldn't be opposed to taking the ferry to Epcot or Boardwalk so suggestion there would be welcome as well.

2) Some of our evening meals were supposed to be part of our experience, not just dinner. I'm trying to keep that philosophy with CS meals and these are the ideas I've come up with.

Go to AKL and eat at Mara (their quick service restaurant) and walk around to look at the animals there
Get pizzas from Intermission at ASMu and watch the poolside movie
Go to F&W Friday evening (the crowds! I know- but still, should be fun!)
Head over to DTD to walk around and have CS there

Any other suggestions for turning a CS dinner into an event?

3) We'll be keeping one breakfast and one dinner TS and paying OOP. (And possibly a lunch if we don't find an alternative to Sci-fi). We know that the dinner we're keeping is Park Fare. We MUST have dinner with Cinderella and her family, no ifs ands or buts! For breakfast I'm torn. After seeing pictures of Tusker House I was really excited about it and I think my kids will enjoy Donald and friends more than Pooh and friends (although they'd still enjoy Pooh, just not as much). There is also no CS breakfast offered in AK so if we don't get to ASMu early then we'll miss rope drope as we'll have to eat at the resort before we go to the park if we aren't doing TS. HOWEVER, I was really looking forward to the early start at MK and the only CS breakfast offered there is Main Street Bakery which would mean stopping to eat before heading to Dumbo :scared1: or backtracking. Of course the kids and I could do the Dumbo Dash while others got us some food and that would eliminate those issues. MK is earlier in the week though so we might not be as willing to get up early for an ADR later in the week- that could be adventageous though because if we HAVE to get up we will but if not we might miss rope drop at AK. Did you follow all that?? In short I want to know if you think we should do our oop breakfast at Crystal Palace or Tusker House.

-Hope-
01-21-2010, 09:39 AM
Okay, I pretty much talked myself into Tusker House with my ramblings- mostly because I know we'll get up for rope drop at MK no matter what but by Friday we might just sleep in and miss rope drop at AK unless we have a reason to get up and get moving- like an ADR!

Twoboysnmygirl
01-21-2010, 09:40 AM
Very difficult but if that was my choice, I would go with the characters you think the kids want to meet the most. I would NOT get a CS breakfast on the day you cut out the TS, I would get a SNACK at ASMU and hit rope drop at MK or AK that day. This way you don't have to stop and get something while doing the dumbo dash.

Knowing YOU, I would keep Crystal Palace b/c you are a photographer at heart and your empty park pics of the castle will be priceless to you. If you arrive at rope drop you will have thrawls (is that a word? LOL) of people in your main street/castle pics.

Twoboysnmygirl
01-21-2010, 09:41 AM
Well, that makes sense...but don't try to eat on mainstreet at rope drop! Grab something quick first and then just plan on CS for lunch at MK.

Oh and I know you accounted for the savings in the refillable mugs since they are included but did you figure in the savings on tips you would have been spending as well on 7 TS meals?

I'm going to have 2 itineraries going, one with QS and one with DDP in case they actually do release DDP for values. It's hard though b/c I can't "fall in love" with one b/c then we might be doing the other! It's going to be a long 2 months until they start releasing fall public discounts!

-Hope-
01-21-2010, 10:09 AM
Ooooh, I forgot about tips! :worship: Thanks for reminding me!

I did keep thinking about the pics I could get if we eat at Crystal Palace but in the end I'm leaning toward (nothing set in stone until I make the ADR right?) what is best for the group, not just me and my camera. although I do that a lot and end up always thinking of everyone else and never myself! At any rate, I wasn't really going to try to do CS at either park for breakfast I just wanted the option just in case I couldn't get people out the door on time- I always have to have a contingency plan!! :rolleyes1

I have two plans going as well and printed one out to bring with me this morning!

-Hope-
01-21-2010, 11:54 PM
Okay, I have my plans all adjusted for Quick Service dining- and I LOVE my them!

There were still a few TS meals that we wanted to do no matter what so that helped to round out the QS plan- we are going to have WAY more food simply because we'd have never eaten everything in one sitting but the QS lets us spread things around to when we're actually hungry. So, we'll still have two full meals per day and now with QS we'll have an extra snack leaving us 6 extra snack credits for everyone to use at their own discretion instead of 3. Since I know the kids wouldn't have really eaten that much at a buffet and would just be hungry later so this really works out better for our family.

I was also worried that it was going to be too expensive for us to still enjoy the TS that was most important to us. After subtracting the refillable mugs (which are included in QS but not DDP) and tips for all of the extra TS meals I only have to budget an extra $75. I also don't think we'll spend as much on drinks because most QS places simply don't offer alcohol and even if they do I'd be much less likely to want it with a QS meal than a TS meal. There is just something about a sit down meal in a restaurant that makes me want to order a drink. :rotfl: So, I simply deducted the $75 from my 'misc.' budget so my overall budget is the same. :goodvibes

A couple of other perks to having fewer ADRs in our schedule: 1) we now get to eat at Flametree BBQ at Animal Kingdom. Everything I've read proclaims it to be the best CS at the park but I just couldn't make it work before and still have my other meals make sense. Since both my dad and Robbie love ribs I think this place will be a big hit. 2) We now have Food and Wine in our schedule with plenty of snack credits to enjoy it. I kind of had in the back of my mind before that I'd try to make it over with my mom while Robbie took the kids to swim. But even then I would've had to either save my snack credits, save from the misc. budget or just miss it. Now I know we're going and I'm really looking forward to it!

So, my new plans:

Saturday September 25:

Alright, Karen mentioned Contempo Cafe in her new plans so of course I had to look at the menu. It's a sickness- seriously, I may need help.

The real reason I want to do this has nothing to do with food and everything to do with wanting to try lots of different things. In our old plans we were going to get to ride the monorail when we ate at Chef Mickey's and I think the kids (especially Jace) would really enjoy it. In fact I think he'll be disappointed if he sees the monorail and never gets to ride it and this way we actually have a purpose.

IF we aren't totally worn out when we are ready to leave DHS (big if and we can always just go back to plan A and eat at ASMu if we're too tired) then I thought we might try to go to Contempo for our late lunch instead of heading back to the resort. I thought it could be fun if we take the boat from DHS to Boardwalk and then walk over from Boardwalk to take the monorail from Epcot to Contemporary. After we eat we'll just take buses back to the resort.

Tell me if this sounds too complicated- it looks simple enough on the map but I'm not so sure. The Friendship boat seems like an easy and relaxing way to get from DHS to a monorail stop, well at least near a monorail stop. I can't really tell from the map though how close Boardwalk and the monorail stop are though. Maybe we should just take a bus from DHS to Epcot. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Twoboysnmygirl
01-22-2010, 01:47 PM
Mmmm, LONG walk. I think Epcot's monorail entrance is at the FRONT of Epcot and you would be entering out in World Showcase if you take the friendship boat.

How about going back to the resort for your lunch as planned or back for a snack and then heading to Contempo before going to Spectro and Wishes? You could skip Cosmic Rays or move it to another time?

-Hope-
01-22-2010, 01:56 PM
I was afraid it would be longer than it seemed on the map. We could also just ride the monorail around once without actually needing to... I'll have to puzzle over it and figure out how I want to do it.

AND, I don't know if you can take the monrail straight to Contemporary or you have to go to the TTC first. The best thing to do is go ask on the transportation board, they know ALL the best routes!

-Hope-
01-23-2010, 12:17 AM
Okay, after pouring over the transportation boards I think our best option is going to be to take the bus from DHS to Contemporary and then after we eat at Contempo to take the monorail to TTC where we can take a bus back to the resort. Of course all that assumes we'll be in the mood for that- if we are hot and tired we'll head back to the resort and just take the monorail around sometime without any specific purpose if the kids really want to.

I'm not really sure why I insist on making things so complicated.

Twoboysnmygirl
01-23-2010, 03:21 AM
It makes sense anyway b/c once you are at Contemporary, the easiest way back to your resort is to get on the monorail anyway, at least to MK to grab a bus. There's no resort to resort buses, so I think you'll get your monorail ride! :thumbsup2

[QUOTE=Twoboysnmygirl;34939110]Cute smiley! ;)

Do you think that is enough questioning?[/QUO

Hello!! It's been awhile since I've been on the boards. But I'll try to answer some of your questions.

The restaurants were crazy!! They were the longest waits that we had. With most families on free dining reservations were hard to come by. Our first ADR was at CP. I was crazy to make an ADR at MK on a Sunday afternoon but with the 3 little kids in our group we had to go to MK first. There were people everywhere waiting to get into CP. We got there 20 mins early and then waited and waited and waited. They were running about 45 mins late. The wait was rough because it was soooooo hot. But, once we got seated it was a lot of fun. I love Winnie the Pooh and Eyeore. The food was okay. Nothing outstanding. I'm not a huge fan of buffets. The character interaction was great!! If I ever figure out how to post a picture I'll show you.

Oops, gotta go. If you want I'll give you more info about my trip later.

Jodi

-Hope-
01-23-2010, 09:15 AM
Thanks for that info Jodi! I'd love to hear more, especially about buses since we are going to completely rely on Disney transportation for our trip. Hearing about the dining issues makes me even more happy with my new quick service plan!

Just to let you all in on just how crazily obsessive (or maybe controlling!) I can get about planning I'll let you in on what I'm working on right now.

I started looking at menus for the counter service places I picked. I was trying to do a little fine tuning and I've ended up with a MAJOR project on my hands. When I picked the CS places I looked at location and checked to see if there was something on the menu everyone would enjoy. However today when I was looking at those menus I realized that a lot of the places I picked serve the same things and we are going to get tired of hamburgers and pulled pork sandwiches. Sooo.... I copied menus from allears into a word document and organized them by location. I printed them all out and am about to go spread out on my bed with my schedule, maps, and menus so I can make sure I've not only got a good plan for getting a variety of food without a lot of backtracking and running all over.

Sounds crazy I know but my dad and my husband will both be unhappy if they have to eat the same thing all the time and I don't want to waste our park time waiting in three different lines for food.

Or maybe I just wanted a WDW planning project for the afternoon. :rolleyes1

Twoboysnmygirl
01-23-2010, 03:03 PM
How about showing THEM??? I know, I know, this would mean they would realize how crazy you really are, but there MUST be something they would like to eat on this amazing vacation that is semi-exotic? (and I wouldn't really consider most things on CS menus exotic at all?) :confused3

Twoboysnmygirl
01-23-2010, 03:05 PM
Oh and did I ever show you the CS booklet I made? Natalie (DISIGN board) has all the options for CS on cute cards you can print out and take with you. I made it so my IL's could look and see if there was anything they wanted, but I don't think they ever even looked at it! But, I don't think it had the resort CS menus.

-Hope-
01-24-2010, 07:49 AM
I kind of came to this conclusion- I narrowed down the choices on my own and figured I'd show them the menus and let them decide for themselves from those choices. I think if I tried to show them ALL of the menus they wouldn't look because they'd think it was too much trouble and they'd just randomly pick something. BUT if I just show them a few menus they will pick something. And it isn't that the CS food is exotic its that they are really picky. I think I have it figured out though so no big deal.

I also took your idea and figured out where to put TS in the same schedule so if they do offer the ddp then I'll still have my new and improved plan.

An 'almost' movie day!

Our first movie day was a huge success, the following week was still fun but Jace didn't come and the girls were definately less interested in the movie. This week, our third week, we never got around to watching the movie! :rolleyes1 I suppose I should start at the beginning though!

We were having a hard time getting out the door. Jace, once again, didn't want to go with us. He told me that if he wanted to be a hermit. I indulge him when there is a place for him to go, which there usually is. However on this particular day everyone he would normally stay with was busy. I convinced him to just bring his DSi and that it would be fine. Hurdle cleared, it looks like we're going to get out the door on time!

Squeaking out the door at EXACTLY the time we need to in order to meet Karen on time I think we are in the clear. But then THE COOLEST thing happened. We live on a gravel road in the middle of nowhere. This usually means nothing exciting happens. However, once it a while it is just the right environment for great things. I was reminded of this when out of the corner of my eye I spotted- A BALD EAGLE! :cool1: He was just hanging out in a tree so I stopped (in the middle of the road) and grabbed my camera. I was shooting away when I realized I should put my telephoto adapter on so I could get better shots- so, back to the car. Again, happily clicking away when I decided to preview a pic only to discover- I had no memory card in the camera! :scared1: Back to the car one more time. I finally got some decent shots (decent not great because it was a gray, overcast day and my telephoto adapter isn't the greatest).

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/IMG_9208.jpg

Of course all this excitement meant we were late to meet Karen and Savannah at the rec center. Thankfully Karen is also a photographer not to mention an animal lover so she completely understood. We walked for a while-I'm not really sure how long, just until we were tired and couldn't walk any more! After walking we headed over to Karen's house (as soon as we can walk outside I'll host so we aren't always invading her!) for our Monster's Inc. movie day. :goodvibes

I should've seen immediately that we were in trouble. The kids went straight to Savannah's room and weren't at all interested in the activities we had planned. We just let them play for a while and eventually they wandered in ready to do some things. They all grabbed the activity packs Karen had printed out and worked on those together.

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9220.jpg

They all seemed ready for cookies so we started to get the ingredients together for that- and Karen realized she didn't have sugar- no sugar, no sugar cookies! So, she ran to the store to grab sugar. While she was there she realized it would be just as cheap to buy a roll of sugar cookie dough as a pack of sugar so that's what she did! :rotfl: The kids didn't mind because they were most interested in decorating and eating the cookies.

We divided the frosting into ziploc bags and added food coloring to the bags, snipped off the ends and voila- pastry bags! The kids had a good time decorating their door and eye cookies. The girls printed out a picture of Boo's door and since it had flowers on it so did their cookies. Mike's eye is blue so they covered their round cookies with white frosting, blue in the middle and then had their choice of a chocolate chip or a chocolate covered peanut for the 'pupil'.

At first Jace wasn't interested- he was playing Rockband with Karen's son, Dallas, and decorating cookies wasn't going to top that! Eventually they quit playing though so he joined us and had a good time!

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9223.jpg

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9243.jpg

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9291.jpg

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9268.jpg

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9314.jpg

Of course eating them was even more fun than decorating them!

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9307.jpg

After that the girls disappeared into Savannah's room- Jace was with them for a while but then came into the living room with us and played his DSi. We never did get around to watching the movie but it was a fun day!

:cheer2:I booked our room today!!! :cheer2:

I called this afternoon and got all 6 of us booked at ASMu. Of course the CM couldn't make any promises about adjoining rooms or putting us in Jazz but the request has been noted. :goodvibes

When it came time to add on dining he immediately offered me Quick Service. I hedged and admitted that I was hoping for free dining to be released. He assured me that I could canel the dining later at no penalty (I already knew that  ) so I let him put it on. He told me that he'd offered me the QS plan because that was people staying in values would most likely get if free dining is offered. Honestly, I love my QS plan so I'm happy about that. More time in the parks, less sitting in restaurants. :thumbsup2

I'm not sure I've filled everyone in on my latest dining decisions. So I guess I can do that now as well. We decided to do TS oop because there were a few things we were really looking forward to. Park Fare was on our must list and still is, we'll be having dinner there on Thursday evening. This is also the night the kids will get to ride the monorail. We'll take the bus from ASMu to MK and then the Monorail to GF. I'm hoping to get a 6:15 ADR and that we'll be finished eating in time to watch Wishes from the Marina. There's a small possibility that this could be a party day which would be awesome- we're not attending a party it would be great to have an opportunity to see Hallowishes from outside the park.

Our other TS is going to be at Crystal Palace. I originally thought we'd do our breakfast TS at Tusker House but this worked better for a variety of reasons. I'm excited about getting early shots of a nearly empty Main Street. :woohoo:

Like I said earlier, I really like the QS plan better HOWEVER, one of the things I love about the DDP is that the dinners we had planned were events to look forward to instead of just grabbing a meal. I didn't want to give that up when we switched gears to do the QS instead of the DDP.

Obviously this isn't all of our CS meals- the ones not listed are just simply grabbing something at the resort or in the park and that hasn't changed much from my original plans. The ones listed here are the ones I tried to pair with another activity to make it more special since we won't be do as many character meals...

We're headed to DTD on our arrival day- we'll probably grab something from Earl of Sandwich for lunch and then take a water taxi to POFQ for dinner at Sassagoula Floatworks.
We'll have a snack from Boardwalk Bakery for breakfast on our WS day. We are planning to take the bus to DHS and the boat to Boardwalk.
Dinner that night will be at Cantina de San Angel (if they're finished with the refurb!!!) and Illuminations from the patio.
Columbia Harbour House for Dinner followed by Spectro/Wishes
Dinner from Intermission at ASMu followed by the pooside movie
Mara at AKL for dinner followed by walking around to explore this resort and hopefully spot some of the animals
Snack credits to be used at F&W on opening day
back to DTD for lunch at Wolfgang Puck's Express and some last minute shopping

That app would be so cool to have! I guess since my phone resembles the bird that used to loudly repeat what Fred Flinstone said I'll have to stick to printing out Natalies menus.

Hi Hope!!! I am soooo happy that you have now booked :woohoo: I've been out of commission for the last few days......I had my H1N1 flu shot on Thursday and I don't think it agreed with my system. Ugh! I'm better now, though. My instant notification emails don't seem to be working, either. All the threads I've subscribed to I haven't received notifications from....Makes me mad!!!! :headache: I don't want you all to think I don't care!:sad2:

Haunted Mansion Movie Day

Jace opted out again- that boy would be a hermit if I let him. Oh well, he and I will watch the movie this morning before we send it back and then he can do the activities on his own.

Karen and I met at the rec center to walk first. :thumbsup2 After walking we headed over to Karen's house for some Disney fun. I brought a pudding cemetary and she'd printed out LOTS of fun HM activities.

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9326.jpg

We decided that it might be a good idea to watch the movie first since the activities would make more sense AND to make sure we actually watched the movie this week. :rotfl: The girls grabbed the activity packs and worked on those while the previews played then we settled in to watch the movie!

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9369.jpg

What a cute movie! None of us had seen this one so we all enjoyed it. Kya was a little scared at a few parts but overall she liked the movie. She watched part of it through her fingers.

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9377.jpg

Jace is more sensitive to things like that- he enjoys the movies but sometimes has nightmares afterwards. He still wants to watch the movie but I'm glad I watched it first so he can be prepared!

After the movie we moved to the kitchen table where the girls had some of the cemetary pudding and then made some paper crafts. (Or was it Karen and I who made those? :rolleyes1 )

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9402.jpg

Karen found great printouts! Master Gracey and Madame Leota's tombstones, a tomb, hitchiker mask and the cutest bookmark with the stretching portraits. The tombstones were difficult to make and I was losing my patience but they turned out so cute!

Okay, folks I'm making myself a little nuts today. I think it's because I had planned to go run some errands and got snowed in instead. A day at home by choice is amazing but being stuck due to weather makes me feel trapped. :scared:

So, when Robbie and Kya were able to get out in the four wheel drive and Jace walked over to my mom and dad's (have I mentioned they live next door?) I had about an hour to myself. :cloud9: Of course I got out my Disney folder (yes, there is a folder, you can't be all that surprised) and started 'fine tuning' my plans. :rolleyes1

A couple of things are giving me issues right now...

1) I'd really like to take Jace to T-rex. Karen gave me the idea of just having dessert which I LOVE, my issue is with fitting it in. We can try to do it the first night we get in but that's a little tricky. Its hard to gauge how we're going to be feeling after traveling so I'm a little reluctant to make the ADR on our arrival day. However, if I don't make it for that day then I may need to give up something else. I'm trying to remember the advice I read earlier (and passed along to Karen already  )- A wish list is just that. A WISH list. We don't have to do it all.

So, opinions please- if I can't find a way to fit them all in without feeling rushed which one should I give up:

dessert at T-Rex
visiting AKL (and having CS dinner at Mara)
poolside Wii and movie on the giant blow up screen at ASMu

2) I'm also having a hard time figuring out my park plan on our DHS day. At first it seemed easy since we don't like roller coasters but now I'm having another issue. DHS is all about shows. There are LOTS of shows to choose from and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to fit them all in. Of course it complicates things even further that I'm basically *guessing* at show times. They could change any time!

Our MUST do shows at DHS:

Jedi Training Academy
Indiana Jones (recently added, Jace is newly infatuated with Indy)

And the things we'd REALLY like to see:

Muppets
HSM 'concert'

And the things it would be nice to see but aren't high priorities:

Little Mermaid
Beauty and the Beast

When I try to fit all of this in with the rides and attractions we want to do with show times I'm estimating I either can't do it all or we're going to be doing a lot of backtracking. DHS is early in the week (our second full day) so I think we'll have the energy for backtracking but I don't want to wear us out! So, more opinons: if I can't find a streamlined way to fit everything in should I pare back the shows or should we just suck it up and walk back and forth between the areas? :confused3

I know I'm going to have to rethink all of this again when I get the ACTUAL show times but I just can't let it go- if there's a problem in my plans that I can't figure out it just drives me CRAZY until I come up with a solution (even if it is only temporary). :rotfl:

Oh I see! You can give the advise but not take it! :hyper2:

:rotfl:

Ok, first off, you are already spoiled rotten. Those GAD FPs spoiled you before you even used them! :p Everyone has to backtrack a bit usually. Since you will have the GAD FPs, you are at an advantage and shouldn't have to as much. Do you know the times for shows right now and for last year in Sept? I'm pretty sure they are the same or similar all year round.

I also think that you won't wear yourself out much BECAUSE you are seeing so many shows. Many of them are inside with AC and you will be sitting almost as much as walking (although I do remember my back actually hurting from sitting too much at DHS!)

Also, I think I should enlist our DIS friends to talk you into The Great Movie Ride. The kids will like it, I think. Do you know about the vehicle driver being "hijacked" while you ride? It's cute and the kids will probably enjoy it. Aren't you happy that I'm just trying to add MORE stuff to your day?

Really though, with your FPs and not even having to step foot on Sunset Blvd since you aren't riding any of the headliners (other than TSM) you shouldn't have a problem seeing the shows you want. However, I think you should plan for lunch. I don't think you will make it until you get back to ASMU. I know the food choices are bleak, I'm finding a way around that myself, but the shows will take up TIME and I think you will all get hungry before you are done with the park.

-Hope-
02-06-2010, 02:41 AM
Ok, first off, you are already spoiled rotten.

Who me?!?

But, but... Really its not about the walking as much as its about the TIME spent walking. I think I just need to look at it with you because you'll be able to give me a better idea of how long its going to take me to walk from point A to point B- I'm probably cushioning my time too much and its making the day SEEM longer than it has to be.

The thing with so many shows is they just take so long- between getting there to get good seats and the time actually spent in the show most of them are going to be like 45 minutes long- and that doesn't include the time wasted when there's 20 minutes between one show and the next which isn't enough time to do anything else but to much time to just be standing around waiting. :confused3

But since we aren't interested in a lot of rides it seemed like a good day to see some shows so I went back and TRIED to make it work but I just could not fit it all in. Not a big deal really, its just a wish list right. :rolleyes1 I cut out Beauty and the Beast and the Studio Backlot tour and I still don't think we'll get finished before 2:00 (again with some cushioning to get from one place to the next). VotLM will be a maybe. We'll be in that area last and if we feel like it we'll do it, otherwise we won't. I have no idea if I could fit in the Great Movie Ride- keeping in mind that we're going to MK for Spectro/Wishes that night!

I did add lunch. We'll suck it up and eat at either Backlot or Studio Catering, depending on where we are when we get hungry. And now we'll have another extra snack credit to play with. :woohoo:

It's hard to judge the time. I was doing the same with with my AK day b/c we are going to MNSSHP that night and I cannot imagine fitting everything in AND TS at Tusker House. But, it has to fit b/c once again I looked at the menus and there is NOWHERE that Savannah & I can eat at AK other than TH.

Anyway, finishing at 2pm is still PLENTY of time! That afternoon break doesn't have to be as long as you would think. Even if you got back to the resort at 3 or 4pm you could rest & swim and Spectro doesn't start until 8pm. I found that our afternoons/evenings went much slower than our morning. The morning flies by but then I always thought we had enough time in the afternoon. I was sitting at the house this last trip WAITING for it to be time to leave for our dinner ADRs that were for 6pm, so I think you will be ok.

AND, what's funny is, I have the same issue with my DHS day, we have to be done by 1pm or so b/c we're taking the ferry to Biergarten. For us, DHS shouldn't be an all day park this time b/c we aren't doing the shows. Well, most of them. HSM is a must for Savannah and I love the Muppets.

-Hope-
02-06-2010, 10:29 AM
Well, I think I have it figured out. For some reason I had it in my head that we just had to eat breakfast at Starring Rolls. I think its because all of the reviews I said declared it the only decent CS in DHS. But it was just a snack breakfast so why was I holding on to it so much? :confused3 Anyway, I dropped it and we'll grab a snack breakfast at the resort to eat on the bus. That didn't really help much but it did give me time for The Great Movie Ride. :thumbsup2

So, tell me what you think.

-Great Movie Ride at rope drop.
-Get in line for Jedi Training (starts at 9:55 but need to be in line about 20-25 min early to guarantee being picked- this is first come first serve now)
-HSM concert (10:30 performance)
-Star Tours (with GAD FP)
-Indiana Jones (in line by 11:15 for 11:30 show- Is that early enough for this show?)

After the Indiana Jones show we can eat at Backlot Express if we're hungry. If not then we'll wait until after we do these:

-Muppets (with GAD FP)
-HISTK Movie Set playground (check Muppet showtimes to see which is first)

If we didn't have lunch at Backlot we can eat at Studio Catering Co. while we're in this area. It should be about 1:30 when we finish in the SOA area and lunch.

-TSM (GAD FP)
-Magic of Disney Animation
-VothLM (GAD FP) (I think this is going to be a must for my mom because it was my little brother's favorite as a toddler and we used to be able say it word for word because he watched it EVERY day. She'll want to see it just for nostalgia's sake.)
-Narnia (if the kids ask, I'm not bringing it up :rolleyes1 )

IF we really wanted to I suppose we could do the 2:00 show of Beauty and the Beast after we ride TSM and then go back for the rest of the things in that area. I guess it will just depend if we are sick of shows at that point. :rotfl: The Block Party Bash parade is at 3:00 so we may see that as well if we still happen to be in the area when it goes through. The kids may also want to ride TSM or Star Tours one more time since we aren't using all of the GAD FP exchanges.

I tried to put all of the things that were must do first and then all of the stuff that we may or may not do is toward the end of the day so we can decide how we feel about it then. If all we do after lunch was TSM and MoDA I'll be happy but I think its good to have the option to do the other stuff so everyone doesn't think I've made all the decisions for them! :rolleyes1

I think we'll be finished between 2:30 and 3:30 depending on whether or not we do everything or decide to skip some things (I don't think we'll do it all at the end of the day). That should get us back to the resort between 3 and 4 (give or take depending on how the buses are running) and we won't need to leave to get back to MK until about 6 or 6:30 so we can eat before Spectro. (We'll just grab our food and eat in our parade spot).

When I was working on this last night Kya said, "A lot of the stuff you do is about Disney."

WOOT! You are going to be on The Movie Ride by yourself while everyone else runs to TSM! I think your plan looks great and I think even with all the shows you will see a lot and get a lot done. I don't think you'll need GAD for Muppets? Do they even take FPs???? Never had to wait for it, doubt there is a need for FP at all in September!

I don't think you'll need GAD for Muppets? Do they even take FPs???? Never had to wait for it, doubt there is a need for FP at all in September!

For some reason I thought Muppets was on the GAD list but its in a book I have- the same book that shows Indy as a FP attraction even though nothing else does (including the map my mom's bank customer gave her from WDW). My book is old though (2006) so they may have changed it or its just a mistake. :confused3 Anyway, good to know we won't need it since I was wrong!! :thumbsup2

I spent so much time fretting over this and making it perfect and now I've decided that instead of sleeping in on our WS day (it's our FIRST day, are we really going to be able to sleep in?!?) we should do a couple of things on our DHS list before heading over to Epcot. (I wonder what TGMike says about this day at DHS? I don't think it will matter much with the two things I want to accomplish but just curious.) It means giving up Boardwalk Bakery for breakfast BUT if we get a few things out of the way the day before then we will be finished earlier on the actual DHS day which means we would have time to rest and still make it to MK early enough that night to do a few fun things before Spectro. :goodvibes Did you follow that, I'll explain...

I'm thinking that I'll borrow from my original plan and on our WS day we'll get to DHS a few minutes after rope drop, grab breakfast at Starring Rolls then head over to get in line for Jedi Training. We should finish just in time to take a few pictures and catch the 10:30 HSM show. Then we can hop on the boat and head over to WS. (It will probably be closer to 11:15 than 11 when we get there but that's okay- we'll still have plenty of time!)

So then, the next day at DHS all of our stuff I had planned after lunch (TSM, VotLM, MoDA, etc.) can be done earlier and we should be finished at DHS by about 12:30- which will give us lots of time to relax and swim and still head back over to MK in plenty of time to do a couple of rides/attractions and get something to eat before we have to get our spots for Spectro! :woohoo: Our MK day will be a lot less jam packed with this plan as well.

I just decided to do this so I don't have all my times figured out but I'm off to do that now! It takes very little to make me happy when it comes to planning my (ummm, OUR) Disney trip.

I'm FINALLY uploading my pics to photobucket so I can post about our Finding Nemo day yesterday! Last night and this morning photobucket kept trying to download spyware onto my computer- thankfully I didn't click on the warning (FYI- a red screen and a warning message that APPEARS to be from Microsoft but isn't). I finally googled the text of the message and found that I needed to reboot my computer to stop the warning from popping up. So, one reboot and a whole lot of frustration later my pics are finally ready! :goodvibes

We had originally planned to do Mickey and Minnie's Sweetheart Stories in honor of Valentine's Day but Savannah wasn't too enthusiastic about it so we decided to change it. No time to get a different movie from Netflix so we had to choose from what we had on hand or that was available on instant watch and decided on Finding Nemo.

Karen and I were both worried that the weather was going to put a stop to our plans. :sad2:I was NOT happy about the possibility of cancellation. I do okay in winter as long as I can get out of the house but when I'm stuck at home I get cabin fever to the 1000th degree. Plus, since we hadn't been able to walk Thursday I really wanted to get to the rec center where I could walk inside!

Thankfully the snow didn't come until today so we were able to get together! :cheer2: (Well, we had SOME snow yesterday but the roads were still good, unlike today- I'm looking at a near blizzard right now, but I digress.)

As usual we met first to walk. This is always great because as we walk we get to talk about Disney!. :goodvibes Karen helped me think some things through on the changes I wanted to make to my park plans- I'll post about that later. :thumbsup2

After the walk we headed back to Karen's house for some Disney movie magic. :wizard:

I brought turtles in honor of Crush and Karen made mac-n-cheese that we added fish crackers to so it would resemble Nemo and Marlin in the anemone. Karen also had some fun character cut outs to make it more festive. :lovestruc I also brought a sheet with characters to cut out for the craft we'd do next (more on that later!) and Karen made some fun activity packs for the girls to work on (Jace opted out again  ) and they grabbed them before I was able to start snapping pictures.

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9428.jpg

After they worked on their activity packs and had some mac-n-cheese and turtles they were ready to make their aquariums. While they'd been busy with their fun and food I shaved a blue and green crayon so there was plenty for both of them. We then laid out a sheet of wax paper and the girls placed their character cut outs on it and sprinkled some crayon shavings around. We topped that with another piece of wax paper.

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9438.jpg

I then used an iron to melt the wax in the paper and the crayon shavings, this gave a green and blue marbled effect to the aquariums and also sealed the two pieces of wax paper together. The girls then cut frames from contruction paper to glue onto the wax paper and trimmed around the edges. Voila- the aquarium from the dentist's office.

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9459.jpg

While they were waiting for the glue to dry on the frames so they could trim the edges they made a cute little bag that was in their activity packs. They also each picked out two of the characters that had been in the mac-n-cheese anemone so they had lots of goodies! :goodvibes

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9458.jpg

After that they watched the movie- and decided that those cute little bags made great snack holders! You can't see it but their eating Whales! Do any of you speak whale?

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9462.jpg

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9466.jpg

Karen and I didn't make it through the whole movie- The movies are cute but if its one we've already seen we'd both just rather talk about trip planning. :lmao:

Kya really wants to do Enchanted next week but I haven't checked with Karen yet so we'll see!

Hi, I'm Hope and I'm obsessed with Disney planning. (I do want to point out that Karen is my enabler- w/o her input and suggestions I'm SURE I'd have quit by now!) :hyper2:

I changed my plans- again. :rolleyes1 I just know that if I keep tweaking over the next 7 months that eventually the clouds will part and the light will shine down while the angel choir sings about my PERFECT schedule. pixiedust:

So, I told you that I wanted to go to DHS and do a couple of things on our World Showcase morning. Originally I'd planned to sleep in and not head out until it was time for WS to open and then we'd stay all day, right through Illuminations. Well, the problem I was having was that I knew we'd be too tired to stay at WS without taking a break mid afternoon. HOWEVER I also know that we're going to be up and ready to go since its our first day so we might as well be at DHS having some Disney fun! Also, I wasn't really sure that everyone wouldn't want a break at some point even if we did start late. I really want to see all (or at least most) of the countries though so I couldn't decide what to do. :confused3

WELL... since we'll be finished at DHS so early this means we'll be able to go to MK that evening even earlier. We were just going to go for dinner and Spectro/Wishes but now we'll be able to knock out the stuff we wanted to do at Frontierland and Liberty Square before the parade. :woohoo: Now, this means that we'll be finished earlier than I thought on our MK day. So, instead of just hanging out at the resort we can head back over to Epcot that evening to tour some countries we might miss on our first day. :thumbsup2 We'll have a couple of other opportunites to see a country or two as well. We'll have time after our KP Mission with Karen and we're going to F&W Friday evening. I LOVE my new plan- I thought I'd already created the perfect plan but every time I think that I come up with some way to make it even better.

I also decided that I really wanted the Tusker House breakfast instead of Crystal Palace. The ONLY thing that was drawing me to CP was the opportunity to take pics on Main Street before the park opens. Tusker House on the other hand has (IMHO) better characters and better theming. Not to mention that I KNOW we'll make rope drop at MK but I wasn't so sure at AK. Making this decision was easier when I realized (thanks to Karen) that my MK day is more free now so I'll be able take some pics when we arrive and just wait in line at Dumbo instead of doing the dumbodash.

Since I didn't want my TS dinner and my TS breakfast back to back I moved our Park Fare dinner to Wednesday. One more crazily obsessive thing I did this morning was to make a table of how we will do meals if Disney offers the DDP instead of QS to the values. I LOVE my new plan so I wanted to be sure that I'd get to keep it if our dining plans change. :rolleyes1

I love reading about your movie nights! Such awesome ideas. I'm going to take note of some of this stuff so I can do it with my daughter and her friends when she gets older!

Thanks! We have lots of fun! :lovestruc I get lots of the ideas from the Disney theme night thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1707141&highlight=Disney+Movie+Night)and then just add to them or tweak a little bit to suit us.

How old is your little girl? You might just do some family fun nights if she isn't big enough to invite friends over. :thumbsup2

My little girl is just about 15 months old. She doesn't have the attention span to watch quite a full movie yet. lol If we do plan to watch a movie or something sometimes I'll print out a coloring page that relates to it and she has a blast with that. Thank you for the link to the Disney theme night thread. I might have to do some of the meal ideas for my husband and I, and tweak it for the little one. :)

I have been VERY worried about where this money is going to come from because my husband's paychecks have been a bit sporadic lately. He works construction and we've been okay but haven't been able to make saving for WDW a priority. No more worries now- thank GOODNESS! :woohoo:

oh Hope I am so happy for you!!! I hate worrying about money and fortunately for me I had my tax refund and my mom gave me some shares that I cashed in. I am now almost debt free. As for the paychecks, I have to save $222 bi-weekly to make Disney happen. It's doable as long as there are no extra needs from now until then. Well folks- she did it again! Karen, my own personal Disney pusher, has once again talked me into more Disney fun...

Originally we weren't going to go to MNSSHP because I didn't want to spend the extra money but we are getting a pretty generous tax refund this year soooo... TRICK-OR-TREAT! :woohoo:

I have to do a little bit of schedule rearranging and think about costumes for the kids so I have some things to think about for the next few days- and I love to have something to plan. :goodvibes

One of the things I think I'm most excited about is that we will now be in MK two nights- one night for the party and another for Spectro since we really want to see it. That means that we'll be there for regular Wishes as well as Hallowishes so we'll get to do one of the things I really wanted and didn't think I was going to get- riding Dumbo during Wishes!! :lovestruc I really wanted to do this but I also wanted pics of fireworks over the castle so it just wasn't going to work out but now it will. :cool1:

As I said, lots of rearringing (which Karen and I started this afternoon while she was twisting my arm to convince me) and planning to think about so I'll keep you all posted~ I also have pics from movie day today but am too tired to go through them right now so that will have to wait until tomorrow as well. :)

Enchanted

Yesterday we had an Enchanted movie day! This is SUCH a cute movie and I love that Disney put so many elements of other princess movies into it just to make it more fun.

Since there are poisoned caramel apples and appletinis in the movie that's what we decided to do too! I got some plastic champagne glasses from the dollar store and we made our 'appletinis' with apple juice and club soda- so fun! I didn't get any pics of the appletinis but you can see the glasses in the pic with our other goodies.

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9565.jpg

For the caramel apples we decided to get REALLY Disney and bring Goofy's Candy Co. right to Karen's kitchen. Of course to be really and truly Disney we used Karen's Mickey trivet for the pot of caramel...

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9596.jpg

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9606.jpg

and had crushed oreos and bits of reeses to roll the apples in...

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9625.jpg

and drizzled the whole thing in chocolate! (FYI that 'magic shell' chocolate doesn't get hard unless its on something cold like ice cream- oops!)

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9658.jpg

The kids had so much fun making thes and they had even more fun eating them! I had to BEG for ONE BITE, the little stinkers!

We tried to get some pics of the girls giving a toast with their appletinis but they were more interested in being the evil stepsisters and making goofy faces. At one point I think Savannah declared, "Go fetch me a towel!" :rotfl:

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9725.jpg

We settled in for the movie and the kids took their activity packs with them. Karen found a quiz online about the movie and our kids LOVED this! They were reading the questions ahead of time and waiting for the answer to be shown. Now, before I homeschooled I taught public school for a long time and this is a strategy that we taught kids all the time. So you see, our Disney movie days are really an educational endeavor.

-travel home

Six extra snack credits each.

If you notice I now have 3 visits to both MK and WS planned (one day and two evenings each). I am soooo excited about this and can't wait for the party!!! I give Karen a hard time but honestly I never even thought of adding the party in with some of our tax refund until she suggested it. She's just spreading the Disney magic. :wizard:

And of course since we're going to the party we'll also need costumes! Savannah has already passed her red and white polka-dot Minnie dress on to Kya  so she decided that she'll be Minnie. We just have to get her some ears and shoes. :goodvibes

She wore the dress when we delivered flowers to a local residential care facility on Valentine's day and I got a pic. She has her coat on and since it was soooo cold she also wore leggings and a shirt underneath but you get the idea. :lovestruc

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9533.jpg

I'm not sure what Jace will do yet. It will probably be something simple since his real Halloween costume probably won't be Disney themed. He already has some pirate stuff around the house so that's a possibility. Somewhere on the dis I saw a little boy with an apron and chef's hat with a stuffed Remy in the pocket of the apron. Simple AND cute! I'll get his input and I'm sure we'll figure out something.

Mom and I (the guys aren't going- unless Mom doesn't want to go for some reason in which case Robbie agreed to go with us) will probably just make shirts- so I'm off to search the DISign boards!

Great ideas for the Enchanted night! I still haven't seen that movie, but I'm going to have to soon. We had our first movie night (well, it was in the morning) but it wasn't anything elaborate. I can't wait to do more and more during our movie nights as my daughter gets older. I'm definitely going to be making note of the caramel apples and non-alcoholic appletinis you made for future reference. :goodvibes Thanks for sharing!!

The costume idea is perfect! :lovestruc I DO have some minnie ears (headband) but I would only part with them for that night. If she doesn't want to borrow them and wants her own, I got them on ebay for pretty cheap (direct from China! LOL) :rolleyes1

I'm so glad you are getting to take her to WDW when she's still in that "girly" stage. Savannah wants to be a gothic mummy for Halloween/the party. BUT, since it's white, it kind of looks similar to the ballroom dresses in HM, so I guess it's not too bad!

We did 101 Dalmatians... chocolate chip pancakes and "dalmatian milk." Plus there was a little sticker activity we called "Put the Spots on the Dalmatian." (Pics in my PTR.) Those of you following Karen's PTR probably already know that we hit a bit of a snag this week. Disney changed the dates of homeschool days and we were either going to have to pay full price for our tickets or change our dates. ACK!

Changing the dates would not have been that big of a deal EXCEPT that if we changed our dates and Karen didn't the girls were going to be disappointed. On the other had the price tag kept growing on this trip, I'd just decided the day before to add MNSSHP to our trip and now the tickets were going to be more than I thought. :sad2: Well, this is where obsessive planning pays off.

Karen and I talked, my mom and I talked, Karen and I talked some more. I didn't really involve Robbie in it because he has pretty much told me that he trusts me to do the planning I just need to tell him when to show up. I also got online and starting comparing prices, looking to what I could do to keep my dates AND stay within our budget. On about our third call of the evening Karen and I decided that we could ditch our Blizzard Beach day. We're staying at ASMu which has two of the most fun pools at WDW with fun activities every day. Surely giving up the water park wouldn't be that big of a deal- and it wasn't the kids were mildly disappointed but got over it quickly. I didn't mention that we were also giving up Quest by not doing Waterparks and More because I honestly don't think that will even register. They'll get to play in the arcade at the resort and do lots of cool technological things at Innoventions so I don't think Quest will be a big deal at all. So, we were well on our way to whittling down the cost of the tickets.
Then Karen mentioned that if we weren't going to BB she might add another park day. Wait, did my cost just shoot back up?

Well, I was online while talking to her so I looked it up- tickets to BB were going to cost $135 for me and the kids. An extra day on our tickets was going to cost $13 for all four of us. That seemed like a no brainer to me. :thumbsup2 Then I started thinking that with this extra day and our MNSSHP tickets getting us an extra evening in MK we might not need to pay for hoppers. So, I priced the tickets without the hopper option and we were getting really close to being at the same price we were before. I decided to take out our oop breakfast at Tusker House. It just seemed silly to pay $100 for eggs and waffles, even Mickey waffles. We'll be able to get most of the same things at CS breakfast at the resort and it would be included on our QS plan, so I dumped the extra meal which also dumped the tip for that meal. I started adding up my new numbers and...

$100 LESS than it had been before. :cheer2:

So, my new plan has one less character meal, no waterpark, no quest, no hoppers BUT it also has one more park day. It seems like a pretty fair trade honestly. I still get to go to MK several times- one full day (morning and evening with a break in the afternoon) and one evening for the party. I still have two full days (again with breaks in the afternoon) at Epcot. I still have my DHS days split into two mornings (extending into early afternoon). My new schedule is less rushed, has fewer days we have to be at rope drop and seems to allow for a little more time so I'm happy with it.

Of course there is a little more drama though...

So, in the course of the conversation about the dates changing I realized that my mom thought her room reservation included the priced of her tickets. :confused3 I KNOW I explained this to her but my mom has a tendancy not to really listen sometimes so she thought this was all news to her. My dad has been laid off for a while and I think they were scraping together the cost of these tickets to begin with. I offered to buy their tickets but neither of them would even discuss that. So, now I'm not sure if they are coming or not.

At first I was upset because I know the kids are going to be really disappointed if they don't go but I do understand. I wish they would let us help them pay for it but they have very old fashioned ideas about things like that. My mom works at the bank so she knows exactly how much money we have in savings and what our tax refund was so she knows we can afford it but still thinks parents are supposed to help kids, not the other way around. :confused3 So, I've accepted they may not come but haven't told the kids yet. I figured there's no sense upsetting them until they've actually made a decision. So far they haven't cancelled their room so it's still a possibility they might come. I think I'll know for sure when its time to book the flight which is just about a month away. *sigh*

Continued...

So, with all the dust and drama settled I was able to reconfigure my park plans to accomodate no hoppers. Karen and I still wanted the girls to have at least one full afternoon to play at the pool since we weren't doing BB and we also still wanted them to be able to do a KP Mission together which was suprisingly easy to coordinate- it's amazing how much easier one extra park day makes everything. :rolleyes1

-DTD
-Wolfgang CS (2) dinner

Sunday September 26:

Hi Hope, not sure if I have commented or not on your PTR, so here goes:
I have a pair of Keens and I LOVE them!! They are probably the most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever owned. The pair you ordered—on my wish list!! :)

DISigns—which DISers are you using? Are you creating any yourself? Watch those sales!! You can get great deals on clearance at Target and Old Navy—at least from what I noticed around here in Michigan.

Hey, we share the same thing: ODPD—Obssessive Disney Planning Disorder. :thumbsup2:

Index cards—have your read or are you reading MRYPNPPS latest TR? If not, before she starts her actual TR she does a mini PTR and shows her version of cards you might be thinking about. I think I am going to adapt it to fit my needs. :goodvibes:

I love  all the Disney Movie Days you and Karen have been doing—so cute!! I am hoping to do some fun things with my DD and family before we go down too. :goodvibes:

DHS: I think is the hardest park to plan as to me it is not the easiest LO. From what I gathered, Muppets would be the one I would drop off unless you are huge Muppet fans. It is suppose to be getting an overhaul soon as it is dated.

TRex: Can you plan to do it the night you are at DTD or is that going to be too much? Do you like the Mara menu—you could just go to pick up the Zebra Domes for a snack credit if that is the main reason for choosing it?

JTA: Did you read about the new selection process? Waiting in line (kids have to be there) and answering the questions? They also have an age range now that you have to fall into.—since read that you do not about this. :goodvibes:

Yay for tax money!!! :yay: :yay: I have read lots of people are getting back more than they expected!

:woohoo: for MNSSHP!!!! How exciting!!!! You could make Jace a shirt—there is a cute Mickey as a Jedi that would make a cute one for MNSSHP.

Great job working the fuzzy Disney math to make it work for you!! :teacher:

I am glad that you were able to work things to make them fit within your comfort range.

I am sorry your parents might be able to swing it!!:( I hope it works out.
Your plans look great!!!! I think it is comforting to know I am surrounded by others who share the ODPD! We are in good company. :rotfl2:

Yep, these shoes are AWESOME- the best Disney money I've spent so far!

DISigns—which DISers are you using? Are you creating any yourself? Watch those sales!! You can get great deals on clearance at Target and Old Navy—at least from what I noticed around here in Michigan.

I'm really hoping to get some good deals as the summer stuff goes on clearance- we're going at the perfect time of year to snatch some things up super cheap! I'll still be making some of my own though to be more special and so we have some matching things. :goodvibes Natalie (donatalie), Kelly (kellybell), and Milliepie have some great DISigns that we'll probably use. Amy M_I_C_K_E_Y) has a super cute Lego star wars and Tebi73 did a few name fills for me. Marion (RustManFan) also did a really cute friendship shirt for Kya and Savannah to wear together.

Hey, we share the same thing: ODPD—Obssessive Disney Planning Disorder. :thumbsup2:

These are so much fun to plan and do- brings a little Disney magic to the very gray winter we're having.

DHS: I think is the hardest park to plan as to me it is not the easiest LO. From what I gathered, Muppets would be the one I would drop off unless you are huge Muppet fans. It is suppose to be getting an overhaul soon as it is dated.

With our newest plans I managed to fit it all in! :goodvibes

TRex: Can you plan to do it the night you are at DTD or is that going to be too much? Do you like the Mara menu—you could just go to pick up the Zebra Domes for a snack credit if that is the main reason for choosing it?

The main reason I chose Mara is that it gives us the opportunity to visit AKL and its on the QS dining plan. I've pretty much decided we won't be doing T-Rex. Jace didn't seem all that excited about it so it was easy to drop. He wants lots of time at the Lego store in DTD so he'll already be having lots of fun. A few years ago dinosaurs would have been more important but he's growing up. *sigh* :sad1:

JTA: Did you read about the new selection process? Waiting in line (kids have to be there) and answering the questions? They also have an age range now that you have to fall into.—since read that you do not about this. :goodvibes:

Yep, we know all about the new selection process. Jace is so looking forward to this so we will be in line plenty early! He'll only be 11 when we're there so he's still young enough to participate. :thumbsup2

Jace has decided he wants to be a pirate- he thought this wasn't too babyish and still seemed Disney. This should be pretty simple too- he has lots of satiny swishy athletic pants and we'll just jagged cut the bottoms of a pair that have gotten too short, pair it with a white t-shirt and black vest, bandanna, eye patch, and clip on earring and voila' pixiedust: Instant pirate! Of course we've just started reading Tom Sawyer so he may change his mind and that will be a super easy costume as well. :goodvibes

He already has that Jedi Mickey shirt picked out to wear when he does Jedi Training. :thumbsup2

Great job working the fuzzy Disney math to make it work for you!! :teacher:

I'm actually pretty laid back about things despite all my obsessive planning. I enjoy the puzzle and making it all work so changing things up just gives me a new challenge to tackle. :thumbsup2

I think the JTA will be fun to watch even if he decides not to participate so I'd just try and see how he feels when he gets there. Kya has absolutely no interest in participating but still wants to see the show. :)

Well, I might just be a little crazy folks. I am terrified of heights- I literally get butterflies in my stomach when I'm walking down steep steps and I can't stand next to the edge of anything, even if it has a railing. I have always pushed myself through this fear when it comes to doing things I really want to do. I climbed out on a castle tower that was on top of a mountain once but I kept myself GLUED to the tower wall. This is a real fear of mine and yet...

Jace wants to do Characters in Flight. :scared1: Now, I could let him do it with Robbie and not worry about facing my fears but I think I'd regret it. I want those pics from way up high! I hadn't really given it much thought until we saw the planning dvd- Jace thought it was nutty at first but then he saw that there's a net and he started to get into the idea. I think the net will help me too, the good thing about irrational fears is that irrational things can make you feel better.

We have DTD on our agenda for our arrival and departure days. I think on our last day IF we have any spending money left (it'll be about $80 for all four of us) we'll check to see if its running. According to reports here on the DIS it can be iffy because weather and wind conditions have to be just right (which also makes me feel better- they take safety seriously!) or they shut the ride down, even if people are waiting. So, its not a definate plan but definately something we're going to try to make work. I better get some AMAZING pictures!

Have any of you done CiF? If so tell me about it- and share pics if you have them!

Character's in Flight is a tethered hot air balloon at DTD. The planning dvd talks about it under 'recent additions' so I guess its only been there for a couple of years (the dvd seems like it might be a year or two old) so maybe that's why you've never heard about it.

We watched the dvd again yesterday (I know, I know, obsess much) :rotfl: and both of the kids want to do it so if its up and running on our last day we will. It's $16 each- I was rounding up to 20 when I estimated 80 because I'm not sure if that includes tax. My kids aren't big on thrill rides and refuse to do any roller coasters so this would be a really exciting addition to our trip. I think it will be worth it to push through my fear. :goodvibes

Along that same line of thought- when we watched the dvd we talked about the fact that Splash isn't really a coaster. It's a slow ride with fun theming and a big drop at the end. Since the speed and twists, not the drops are what they don't like about coasters they both think they want to do Splash now! :woohoo:

Oh! I know Characters in Flight. I just didn't know that's what it's called. We've never done it but it was brand-new when we stayed at SSR last May. We could see it from the hotel. It looks cool but I seriously doubt my DH would do it!

My kids LOVE Splash Mountain. They were terrified of Thunder Mountain but thought Splash was awesome. My 4 year old was a bit afraid of Soarin' but my 6 year old LOVED it!

Better late than never right... :rolleyes1

This week has been pretty busy and stuff kept cropping up so I didn't have a chance to post about our Fox and the Hound movie day! I'm sure most of you have already read all about it on Karen's PTR but here goes anyway. :thumbsup2

We decided that since Fox and the Hound is really all about freindship that this should be the theme of our day. :lovestruc

I found a recipe online for Friendship Bread that didn't require messing with that starter (if you've never done the starter rest assured- it's a pain in the neck!) so Kya and I made these at home. I happened to have three small loaf pans so I made the kids their own individual loaves. We also gathered materials t make friendship collages; colored paper, scissors, glue, magazines, and some pics of the girls together. :goodvibes

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9780.jpg

You can see from the look on Kya's face how happy she is to be having her picture taken. :lmao: With a little coaxing though both of the girls started to have fun posing for us. (Jace was here too but didn't want to be in the pic  )

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9791.jpg

After posing for a few pics they got to work on their collages. They turned out so cute!

Kya's...
http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9807.jpg

and Savannah's
http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9813.jpg

Jace started on a collage but lost interest before he finished. In fact he spent most of the time wining about being tired- I was ready to wring his neck because he kept interrupting while Karen and I were talking about Disney! :rotfl:

After they made their collages they headed into Savannah's room to watch the movie on our old tv/vcr combo. It was a HUGE hit for them to watch this way! They loved being separate from us where they could play and watch and Karen and I loved the opportunity to talk about trip planning. :cloud9:

Another great movie day!

Ive been tweaking and retweaking.....my poor eraser! Would you believe I had trouble finding 11 TS restaurants??!! Victoria is extremely fussy and so I've been reading the menus and elimating places. For example, I really wanted to eat at the Coral Reef, but there's nothing on there she would eat! We'll have to do Le Cellier instead. AAArrrrggggg!!!! :scared1: We will also be doing the Fantamic dinner package at the Hollywood and Vine. I'm hoping Characters in Flight will be running, too, because that looks like a lot of fun!! I'm hoping that now since we are all staying at the ASMu, we can get together one afternoon for our Dismeet. I can't wait to meet all of my Disfriends in person!!!!

Appeasing picky eaters when you're meal planning is the worst! There are lots of places I'd like to go but I'm afraid no one else would eat it! LOL!

As for a Dismeet I'm surely hoping we can squeeze that in to our super busy schedule! Karen and I had such a hard time figuring out when the girls could get together because we both have so much packed in! We finally decided that we would plan to meet at the pool Monday afternoon around 2:30 or 3- no set time to arrive or to leave since we'll both be with our families and want to be flexible for them. If it works with your schedule you should stop by and say hi! :goodvibes

Have you seen any of the youtube videos at PF? Hysterical!! Yep, there isn't much good to eat at DHS but since we aren't hopping we won't have time to eat elsewhere and PF is the only TS we're going to do since we have to pay oop. Okay, so my touring plans are pretty much done but I'd love some feedback. Like I mentioned before I'll just post one day at a time so I don't overwhelm you guys!

The first day is of course our travel day. I'm really anxious for flight info to come out so I can find out how early we can get to Orlando. I want as much time as possible, no matter how early we have to get up! I want our time to be relaxed and unrushed so we'll just check out the resort and head to DTD. Since Characters in Flight stops running at noon we'll have to do that when we go back to DTD later in the week. :goodvibes

Saturday September 25- Day 1: Travel/DTD
• Fly to Orlando
• Settle into room/ explore resort
• CS lunch @ ASMu
• *Downtown Disney: Lego store, World of Disney, Once Upon a Toy, Pin traders, Goofy’s Candy Co.
• CS @ Earl of Sandwich
• DJ Dance Party (East) 6:30-9:30, Celebrate Tonight! (Pleasure Island) 6-12 (don't have to do this, just some fun things going on)

What do you guys think? My list of things are our MUSTS, we'll just walk around the Marketplace ont he east side and probably Pleasure Island as well and see what else there is to see. Is there anything else at DTD that we just MUST try/see/do?? (Since it's near CiF I also have Magic Masters on the agenda for our Friday visit to DTD so that's covered.)

ETA: We don't have Quest tickets and aren't planning to buy them so that's not an option!

I think that's a great 1st day. We've found that travel days are better when we plan less. Taking time to explore/swim and spending time at DTD is very clever!!! My kids really liked the Lego store (at 6:30am my 6 year old woke my husband up by saying "It's time to L-E-G-O-S!").

I love your plans!!!! We have a lot of the same places on our list too. It seems like you've got yourself super organized! I'm jealous!!!

We love Earl of Sandwich. Pecos Bill's seems to have a nice selection as well. I like Studio Catering too!

Yep, my kids are so much happier if I'm not trying to rush them from place to place. I had to decide a few years ago if I wanted to be miserable and see it all or have fun and see enough. Pretty easy choice. ;)

And that is so cut about your little one- Jace will be 11 Monday and still loves Legos (in fact he campaigned for us to go to Legoland instead of WDW, lol) so this is something he's really looking forward to! :goodvibes

Glad to hear someone say something good about Studio Catering. :)

Sure Ann, I saw it mentioned on Steve Soares (http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/pi.htm). He updates every week so you have to check back closer to time for your trip but most things stay pretty much the same. From what I understand these are street parties with entertainers, dancing etc. (all kid friendly of course!) It all takes place outside so we'll probably just enjoy it as we're walking around. :goodvibes

I like your first day plans Hope! Do you know your flight time yet? Honestly, I do not think you will miss that much at Disney Quest--it is fun but there are still quite a few things you have to pay for despite paying for the admissions. Jace would probably like it but with the arcade card you get as part of the package, hopefully that will appease him!

BTW--I like that you are doing one day at a time! It is nice to go through them day by day IMO. :thumbsup2

No flight times yet. We're planning to fly Southwest due to super cheap prices coupled with the fact that they don't make you pay for bags. Southwest won't release flight info for September for about a month so we are just waiting. Yeah, I think the arcade at the resort and the cool stuff at Innoventions will be enough that he won't even miss Quest. I also read something about a penny arcade on mainstreet with old school style games? The book I read it in is a little old and I haven't really looked into it a lot but it sounds like something fun if we have the time at MK (which I think we will since Toontown will probably be closed by the time we gett there). At any rate we'll be at WDW so he's going to have fun no matter what! :cloud9:

Glad you like the one day at a time plan. :goodvibes I know that I sometimes get overwhelmed by too much info in one post and then I end up just skimming. :rolleyes1 Hopefully this way people will be able to take it in a little better and offer more feedback. :thumbsup2

Okay folks, I soooo appreciate all the feedback you gave for our first day's plans. :lovestruc Our second day, which is our first park day and first full day at WDW,:banana: is going to be at Animal Kingdom. This day looks green green green at AK so should be good as far as crowds go. We have GAD tickets which we plan to use for fastpasses but we won't use them at AK. We don't like coasters so they would really be a waste here. Plus, if my parents don't go we'll only have three GAD tickets since one of the four we have is in my mom's name. That means we'll have to choose which parks we use them in and AK would definately be a waste. If they do go then we'll use mom's ticket to get the ear figurine for the kids and they can share the pins, if not then we'll donate her ticket.

So, without further ado, our touring plans...

Sunday September 26- Day 2: Animal Kingdom
S breakfast @ ASMu, rope drop
• Kilimanjaro Safaris (do this first, prob won’t need FP)
• Pangani Forest Exploration Trail
• Flights of Wonder (arrive about 15 min early, sit on the left) 10:30, 11:20, 1, 2, 3
• on the way from FoW to Nemo grab FP for Kali and snack @ Dino Diner to eat while in line
• Finding Nemo (arrive 30 min early) 10:30, 11:45, 2, 3:15
• Triceratop Spin (maybe one of us can take them to do this while the other holds our place in line for Nemo, if not no biggie- also no biggie to skip if line is long)
• Boneyard
• lunch @ Flametree BBQ
• Kali River Rapids with the FP we got earlier
• Maharajah Jungle Trek (can do this before Kali if it's not our return time yet)
• Tree of Life and Discovery Island Trails
• Oasis
• Greeting Trails (can finish after LK if need/want to)
• Festival of the Lion King (arrive 30 minutes early) 10, 11, 12, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30

back to resort to rest/get ready for dinner at 1900 Park Fare (6:45) take bus to TTC, monorail to GF, after dinner take ferry back to MK and transfer to bus back to resort

This is by far our busiest day! Most days I have a break scheduled in the middle of the day and we finish up in the evening. But since AK closes at 5 I wasn't able to do that. Also, the only other day I have us touring w/o a break its because we are going to hang out at the resort/pool all evening- on this day we are touring all day AND have our only TS meal of the week! This is how it worked out and there's really no place else for me to put the ADR than on the AK day (except the first night we arrive which I really didn't want to do either) without losing park time. I think it should be okay though because it's our first day and I think we'll be raring to go! :yay: Plus we don't have to be at rope drop the next morning so if we're a little tired we have some leeway (not much but some).

I'm really interested to know what you guys think of the times I chose for the shows (my times are in red). Do I have enough time to do the things on my list and still make it to these shows on time? It makes sense in the touring and with the park layout to do FotLK last but is it a mistake to wait this long- will we risk missing it if we plan for the last show of the day?

Do you think we'll have enough time after touring to make a 6:45 ADR? ASMu is close to AK so I think we should be back by 4:30 and would need to leave by 5:45 to make it to GF on time. An hour and 15 minutes would be plenty of time to rest a bit and get ready for dinner but are these times realistic?

TIA for your feedback!! :goodvibes

Looks good. We always do the Safari 1st and never had a long wait (except the time my mom had an ECV and we had to wait for an accessible jeep - she should have parked it with the strollers and walked!).
We love the Lion King show!

I would be a little worried about getting to the ADR - mostly because I'm crazy like that. I'm the person who would rather wait 2 hours in an airport than risk any possibility of missing a flight. Last May we had a few days where the buses were painfully slow - long waits, etc. Or are you driving? Now I can't remember. If you have a car, you'll totally be fine. If not, it might be a little close.

I think it looks great! You might consider skipping the snack and having lunch right after Nemo and THEN going to the boneyard. It might let you judge your time a little more if you do this.

I think your 3:30 time is fine, actually you may find that you make the 2:30 show! The only issue with that is that the lines for the characters will get long right after the show, LK empties out right into the character meet area and many people get right in line.

You really have it all figured out! I'm going to have to take tips from you for our touring plans! :worship:

IS there a bus from the resorts to the TTC???? :confused3 You can also take a bus to MK and then get on the monorail to GF. I would push that ADR back just another 15 to 6:30 b/c I think the meal COULD realistically last 2 hours and I want you to get to see those fireworks on the ferry back!

Nope, not driving we are completely relying on Disney transportation. Maybe if we are cutting it too close we can take a cab.

That's a good idea to do the boneyard after lunch, that way if we're running behind I can tell them they only have 15 minutes or whatever. I'm also hoping that we make it to the character trails to do them during the 2:30 show so the lines won't be long. Maybe I should plan to split Discovery Island Trails and the Oasis before and after if I need to instead of the character trails to be sure to avoid the lines. :thumbsup2

And I only have it all figured out because you taught me so well! :worship:

Do you think I'll be pushing it if I make it 6:30 or do you think I'll have plenty of time to get back to the room and get ready without rushing around? :confused3 I figure we'll need to leave the resort at least an hour before our ADR.

I'm not sure there is a bus to TTC, if not then MK will work just as well. :thumbsup2

I have not look at the PF YouTube videos--I will have to check them out to prep DD. Thanks for the suggestion! :thumbsup2

I do that too--skim posts that are super long. A lot of times I am reading the forums when I am relaxing at night or taking a study break so I am not reading super careful.

I completely agree with saving your GAD fastpasses for MK or DHS. I think they would be much more valuable there.

I think you have KRR in a good spot--should give you plenty of time to dry off (anticipating how hot it is going to be when we go) before you sit in an AC room.

I like how you cap off your first park day with 1900 PF--a great way to celebrate being at Disney!! :woohoo:

The only show I foresee you may run into problems with is FN with the transition between FoW to FN only because the show is extremely popular and they will cut the line off if they get up to the limits.

The traveling times seem realistic to me. I plan at least 1/2 hour bus ride to everything (which is high for most times but I rather be safe than rushed). Having an hour to get to GF seems accurate to me. If you get there early than you can always explore GF (heaven forbid ;))

I don't think there are buses to TTC--you can take a taxi there. So you get back on the MK bus, ride the monorail to GF than back to MK to get the bus to ASMu.

Ok, know you are perfectly happy with using Disney transport, but in this instance, would you consider having the backup plan of a cab to GF IF you were running late? This way you don't have to worry about it and can relax and enjoy AK.

Can't wait for the tea party today! It's taking everything I have not to upload pics of the table all set up, but I shall resist!

I also want to talk about your AK order, I have an idea. :goodvibes

If you don't mind taking a cab as a back-up, I think you'll be ok! We're so used to relying on Disney transportation that it never occurred to me to take a cab. That's a good thing to keep in mind if we get frustrated with buses to MK or AK...

I agree- we'll only have about 15 minutes since we need to be in line at least half an hour early so I'm taking Karen's suggestion to skip the snack. I'll send Robbie and the kids to get in line while I get the FP for Kali and meet them there. :thumbsup2

Yes definately having the cab as a back up plan this night! Since there's really no way to predict how much time we'll want to spend at AK and I don't want to have to feel rushed in the park or getting to dinner I think a cab is worth it in this instance- I'm frugal but not cheap and when spending a little bit of money will truly improve something I'm all for it.

I can't wait either! For the tea party or to talk about Disney. :goodvibes

Meh, I don't think my idea will work out. I was just trying to get you lunch earlier (this will save time, we got DRINKS once at Flame tree in Sept. and it too Mary Alice almost 40 mintues?!?!?! Long lines mid-day). It ends up being the same time finishing up though, with 3 shows and trying to coordinate their times, I think that's what makes it seem so hard to get your itinerary to fit! We'll talk more today! :goodvibes

No pressure at all huh guys!

I have to share my computer (for now) and the kids both beat me to it and by the time they were done it was time for me to fix supper! No excuse I know.

I'm just now getting my pics uploaded to photobucket so I'll go ahead and share my plan changes (you didn't really believe those were my final plans did you?) :rolleyes1

Karen and I spent so much time looking mapping and backtracking on my AK plans. Honestly, they looked okay but I know my family and we are just not commando touring kind of people. We could possibly have fit it all in but at what cost? Would we be rushing from one place to the next and not have time to really enjoy the park? Would we feel rushed to get to our dinner and be wishing we had more time to rest? Would we be so exhausted that we couldn't enjoy this dinner that is supposed to be one of the highlights of our trip? That's a lot of what ifs for me. I was just thinking I was going to have to talk to my family and decide what things we would have to leave off of the AK day. :sad2:

So we moved on to talking about Karen's plans and I wasn't really thinking much more about it. But have you ever heard that your brain will keep working on a problem even when you aren't thinking about it? Well, that must have been what happened because all of a sudden it hit me- it's just impossible to do this park in one day, I really need two days for AK. The park is laid odd so wierd, the park hours are short, you have to stick with show times and can't really know how long a trail might take. It was just too much for one day! Soooo...

I decided that instead of DTD on Friday morning before the party we'll go back to AK for a little while. It will only cost $12 total to add another park ticket and we'd have spent $20 on a cab to get to dinner since we were so rushed trying to do it in one day. It just made sense both budget wise and sanity wise to do two short AK park days instead of one long one. I don't have my touring plans done yet so I'll have to get those up for you tomorrow. But I feel GREAT about this new plan. We'll have a much more pleasant AK experience and we'll still have plenty of time to go do CiF at DTD on Saturday morning before we leave. :thumbsup2

My pics still haven't uploaded and I have to get up early so I'll post our movie day and my new AK touring plans tomorrow!

Oh.My.Goodness. You guys Karen really outdid herself this week! I knew she loved this movie but I had no idea how much until I walked into her house yesterday! :upsidedow

Here I was carrying my chincy little paper flamingoes and candleabra and she had gone ALL OUT!

another angle...
http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_0002.jpg

and another... (btw, Kya and Savannah are both sick of having their picture taken so to get Kya to smile I had to tell her to pretend Jace was in trouble, LOL!)

and another... (you can see Kya's white apron w/ blue shirt in this one so she would be Alice-esque)

one more... (did I mention I love photography)
http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9892.jpg

She was the Queen of hearts last year for MNSSHP (and our homeschool party) so she had some great things to make the table look really fantastic!

Her QoH shoes made a great vase...
http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9902.jpg

and her flamingo purse were really unique and so fun! :ccat:
http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9917.jpg

And get this- we learned how to make paper roses when we did our volunteer day so she and Savannah made paper roses, some red, and here's the kicker, some white that they painted red!
http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9893.jpg

Rey's (Karen's husband) top hat was a great addition to the tablescape- I kept expecting Johnny Depp to magically appear beneath it at any moment. :rotfl:
http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9982.jpg

Of course she had to make 'eat me' and 'drink me' lables...
http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9899.jpg

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9950.jpg

Finger sandwiches- cut into the shapes of playing cards of course!
http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9890.jpg

Karen and Savannah even made a string of paper lanterns and hung fun lights from Savannah's room in the kitchen. This woman thinks of everything! :worship:
http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9937.jpg

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9903.jpg

We were trying to get some pics of the girls drinking their tea and we told them pinkies up and this is what they did...
http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9964.jpg
:rotfl2:

At one point Savannah parted from her roll as The Mad Hatter and wanted to be QoH. This is her right before she told Karen to spread some butter on her biscuit or it would be off with her head!
http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab329/hnilges/_MG_9986.jpg

After they ate Karen also had activity pages and some fun cutouts for them that included a doorhanger, bookmarks and a picture frame. They worked on these in the living room for a bit and then headed to Savannah's room to finish up, play, and watch the movie. Meanwhile Karen and I stayed in the living room to do what else... talk about trip planning! :rolleyes1

This movie day was FANTASTIC and is going to be hard to beat! :thumbsup2

Oh man I just love getting so much feedback for my plans. You guys really helped me see that we were rushing it in the evening and now thanks to Karen (and skipping our walk yesterday because we were too caught up in planning :rolleyes1 ) I have an even better plan for AK! :lovestruc

Like I said before I've decided to split it into two days. The first day will be our first park day and will look like this:

Sunday September 26- Day 2: Animal Kingdom
S breakfast @ ASMu, rope drop
• Kilimanjaro Safaris (do this first, prob won’t need FP)
• Pangani Forest Exploration Trail
• Greeting Trails
• Festival of the Lion King (arrive 30 minutes early) 10, 11, 12, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30
• head over to Asia, grab FP for Kali
• lunch @ Yak and Yeti
• Flights of Wonder (arrive about 15 min early, sit on the left) 10:30, 11:20, 1, 2, 3
• Maharajah Jungle Trek
• Kali River Rapids

back to resort to rest/swim

1900 Park Fare for dinner (6:15) take bus to MK, monorail to GF, take ferry back to MK
I'm feeling great about this day now! :cheer2:

-Hope-
03-01-2010, 05:56 PM
All right- I'm going to assume that you all approve the AK changes or you got fed up with me changing my mind and quit following along. :rotfl: At any rate, here's our first of two Epcot days! :woohoo:

We're starting out in FW but will have some WS time on this day as well. We'll use a GAD FP today so touring FW will be a breeze! As for WS I figured we'll need about 45 minutes per country, not including meals- does that seem realistic? :confused3

Monday September 27- Day 3: Epcot
snack breakfast at ASMu, try to make rope drop but if not 9:15 will be okay (it will be less time @ Innoventions but we'll have another chance to go there later in the week)
• Mission: SPACE (Green Team) (FP)
• Turtle Talk with Crush
• Living With the Land (FP)
• Soarin’ (FP)
• Innoventions
• Mexico- lunch, Mariachis 12:15
• back to resort to swim/relax

back to WS (need to leave resort by about 3:30)
• Norway- Maelstrom (FP), Kim Possible
• China- movie, acrobats 5:15
· Germany, dinner
• Ferry to front, walk to UK- Kim Possible, British Invasion 8:00

Anxiously awaiting your feedback! :goodvibes

ETA: If you're joining in late some of the following conversations may be a bit confusing- I changed Norway to the afternoon at a later date and instead of posting a whole new itinerary I just changed it here and linked back to it. ;)

Hmmm, wondering if you are pushing it trying to do Norway/Malstrom and then get back over to meet for lunch. We don't HAVE to meet for lunch if that makes it easier! We can always meet in WS after lunch??

I'm having itinerary issues right now as well. I must be crazy.

Hi Hope!! Your Tea Party looks like it was a lot of fun!!! I just cannot believe the creativity the two of you have. Your touring plans looks great, as well. I'm not one to go into much more detail other than what day is where. I may regret that later, but it's all good for now.

I wondered that too- I have an hour and a GAD FP but I'm not sure. :confused3

I know, I love the planning so that's why I get obsessive! :rotfl:

For us this might be our only trip to Disney so I want to be sure we see and do as much as possible! :goodvibes

Okay, I'm going to leave this like it is because I think an hour will be plenty of time since I'm only trying to do Norway. If for some reason it's not I can always call you that day and we can meet after lunch instead of for lunch- but I really don't think that will be necessary.

I emailed you about your itinerary issues but forgot to mention that if you want to do MK Monday instead of on a party day we can move Epcot to Tuesday- I can definately make that work.

Okay, still not sure if I've scared half of you off with my relentless changing of plans.

Something scared my parents off because they have pretty much told me that they aren't going. :sad1: I told the kids and they were both disappointed. I was too but I'm used to it- my parents used to say they were going on vacation every year and every year found a reason not to. We went to the beach a couple of years ago and it was the first family vacation we'd ever had. I think WDW is just not high on my dad's wish list and if we were going to the beach he'd make it work. Oh well, we're going to have a magical time and the kids have plenty of time to get used to the idea of us going without Grandma and Grandpa.

Anyway, back to the touring plans. :goodvibes DHS was tough! Trying to fit in all the shows we wanted to see was so hard. I finally accepted the fact that we just couldn't do it all. Sure we might have TIME to go see every show we wanted but making that work with the SHOW TIMES was just about impossible. I finally decided that we were going to have to give up Beauty and the Beast and Studio Backlot Tour. I could do it if we didn't take a break in the afternoon but that just doesn't seem worth it- I know my family and they will want a break!

We'll have another GAD FP this day :cheer2:

Tuesday September 28- Day 4: DHS
S breakfast @ ASMu, rope drop
• Great Movie Ride
• HSM concert @ 9:30
• Star Tours (FP)
• In line for Jedi Training 10:50, in line by 10:20
• Indiana Jones (11:30 show, be in line 10-15 min early)
• CS lunch @ Backlot Express
• Muppets (check show times, can go to playground or SOA first)
• HISTK/ SOA (can do this on our way out after LMA if we need to)
• Lights, Motors, Action (1:20 show, FP)

back to resort to rest/ swim

when rested go back back to DHS
• TSM (FP)
• CS dinner @ Studio Catering Co.
• Journey Into Narnia
• Voyage of the Little Mermaid (FP)
• Magic of Disney Animation

park closes @ 7, ferry to Boardwalk to walk around/have a sweet treat (take bus to Epcot to go back to ASMu since DHS buses will probably stop running before we're done)

My evening stuff is all pretty much negotiable except for TSM. I figured we'd just walk around Pixar Place/ Mickey Avenue/ Animation Courtyard areas until park closing and fit in what we can.

I think it looks GREAT! you have lots of shows there and they might be "showed-out" by the end of that anyway, I wouldn't worry about trying to fit it all in. You will have a great full day there and I think they will love the stuff you have scheduled!!! I have to admit I'm slightly concerned you will be tired and not want to go back to the park, but hopefully that GAD for TSM will keep you motivated!

and won't you have THREEEEEEEEEEE GAD's so you can just ride it 3 times in a row?!?!?! :dance3:

I finally have my itinerary worked over again...ohmygosh, WHY do I keep doing this to myself? Every time I think it can't get better, it does. :p

Yep, we have no interest in ToT or RnRC so that leaves 3 FP for TSM!! :cool1:

I'm not too concerned for being too wiped out- when we start to get hungry and bored it will be time to go back. Heck if we wanted to lay around until 5 we could and we'd still have time to do the important stuff and one or two extras. This is our usual vacationing style, we like to have a busy morning, followed by a break, and then heading out again for a more a more laid back evening. The only day we don't have that is MNSSHP and I think it's definately worth the exception. :thumbsup2
