View Full Version : Not liking Eurotunnel much

We're due to go today, my friend called just as we're getting ready to go. :sad2:
Eurotunnel delays and no info anywhere on what to do, other than nothing. Eurotunnel site down (unsurprisingly) and the phone number you are told to call says nothing much other than call the number you just called.
So...do we go? Do we do nothing? Wait for information (which I'm not confident will be forthcoming going on current service levels).
Not impressed with the tunnel at all. Wish I'd booked the ferry, they at least are capable of passing on information when delays happen.
Poss no disney for us after all. :sad1:

Apparently there are no ferries today. M20 at a standstill. How long does it take you to get to Folkestone?

We are due to go tomorrow morning. Dont think there is any point trying to change to the ferries as the roads are at a standstill in France with all the snow, and loads more forecast for tomorrow. :confused3 Feeling really fed up.

Well....
Eurotunnel are NOT telling people with bookings not to travel (so am guessing will not refund if you don't show) although still can't talk to a real person for confirmation. Snow forecast for Calais, and I've checked 3 sites, says little to light snow today depending on site. Not the amount of yesterday anyway.
Have a friend who has changed to the ferry and is travelling before us so she will text me from Calais with an 'on the ground' weather/road update.
So.. we are going to try. Wish us luck.

Have just boarded a train at 12.30 should have been on the 07.20
.
Its chaos, the eurotunnel staff are very poor onsite and there are no information announcements.
.
however we have been warned that the weather the other side is very severe.
But most importantly we are on our WAY !

good luck to the both of you who manged to get on your way, keep us informed
:cheer2:
We were due to go yesterday with a 6pm train, after 10 hrs of no news we left Folkstone at 4am, as I was exhausted & knew it was not safe to drive 3hrs+ in france, plus today would have been awful with chunnel lag, cold & 2 kids.
Eurotunnel have refunded us our crossing, we have re booked to go in January now. After speaking with the DLH direct at 5am today, it's bitter there & with the delay, we thought it was best not to subject our 6 & 2yr old to it. Also we have miised 2 days before we got there.
We decided to abandon hope of going after getting through to Eurotunnel & being told delays will be for 72hrs + .
Insurance will refund all costs & ET will pay any difference in the re-booking.

Sorry you're not going before Christmas MrsJ but with 2 small children I think you made the right decision. Hope you're not all too disappointed. On the plus side it should be much less busy in January.

We made it there and back! 28 hours from Buckinghamshire to Paris on the way out though - M20 and the tunnel were horrific and the weather in France was severe almost 8 hours from Calais to DLRP!
The terminal at Dover was appalling - vending machines empty - restaurants closed - people lying on floors everywhere - every member of staff giving different delay times. When we eventually made it off the M20 the check in staff told us it would be a 3 hour delay before our crossing.... 10 hours later a kind member of staff knocked on our car window to let us know our letter was boarding!
But....the weather cleared maybe 40 miles out of Paris. We'd travelled a day early so didn't quite have the relaxed travel and full 1st day in the parks but we were checked in to the Cheyenne by 2pm on Day 1.
Crowds not too bad and we were so much more organised this trip (thanks to info from this forum) that we got so much done :yay: Loads of new rides tried although my boys are not yet ready for BTM ( neither am I but doubt I ever will be!) DH loved it though. It was so much warmer than our pre-Christmas trip last year. No bitter wind slicing us in two :cheer2: This morning was the busiest we saw but as we had to leave at 1.30 it wasn't a problem.
I was rather impressed by the primary school taking what looked like a class of Year 1 kids for a day at DLRP - how brave are they??? Imagine keeping 30 5 year olds together and accounted for there?? A white knuckle ride indeed!
Loads of highs - a couple of lows but very much worth the marathon journey to get there. And a big well done to my 6 year old and 4 year old who were absolutely fantastic throughout.
I hope everyone else made it there and back ok.
