Yes, Virginia, There Is A New Discount Coming Out on December 21

by Len Testa on December 17, 2009

DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old.

“Some of my little friends say there is no new discount coming out on December 21.

“Papa says, ‘If you see it in TouringPlans.com it’s so.’

“Please tell me the truth; is there a new discount coming out on the 21st?

- Virginia

Yes, Virginia, there is a new discount coming out on December 21. It exists as certainly as Buzz and Woody and Belle exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no discounts! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no Splash Mountain, no Tower of Terror to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in discounts! You might as well not believe in fairies!

[Note: In keeping with Bob Iger's recent statements about 2010 discounts we don't expect this discount to be as steep as Buy-4-Get-3-Free or Buy-5-Get-2-Free.

Update: We hear there's a five-day minimum. Travel dates are January 3 through June 3, 2010. Those who stay at value resorts will get a $300 gift card. Moderate resorts get a $500 gift card. Deluxes get a $750 gift card. Blackout dates are March 28 through April 10, 2010. There's limited availability.]

12/21 MouseSavers UPDATE (http://www.mousesavers.com/packages.html#giftcard):

FREE Gift Card with Jan-June 2010 Packages

With this special offer, get a FREE Disney Gift Card when you book a full-price Walt Disney World vacation package (including accommodations and tickets) for a minimum of 5 nights/5 days between 1/3/10-6/3/10 (some dates are not available, and rooms are limited and subject to availability).

Stay at a Disney Value resort and get a $300 Disney Gift Card with your 5-night or longer vacation package.

Stay at a Disney Moderate resort and get a $500 Disney Gift Card with your 5-night or longer vacation package.

Stay at a Disney Deluxe or Deluxe Villa resort and get a $750 Disney Gift Card with your 5-night or longer vacation package.

The Disney Gift Card can be used for almost anything at Walt Disney World, including souvenirs, tours, spa treatments, watercraft rental, gratuities, alcoholic beverages or meals.

You can add the Quick Service Dining Plan, the regular Dining Plan or the Deluxe Dining Plan to this package.

The package includes standard Magic Your Way Base Tickets. You can pay extra to upgrade them with the Park Hopper, Water Parks & More and/or No Expiration option(s) if you choose.

This offer cannot be applied to the Premium or Platinum packages or to "split stays" (for example, 2 nights at one hotel, 3 nights at another).

Note that if you need only a 4-day ticket and you have a non-discounted package, it may be worthwhile to switch to this package (which requires a minimum of a 5-day ticket) because the cost of that extra day on your ticket is low compared with the value of the gift card.

Also note that if you've already booked the "7 Nights for the Price of 4" or "7 Nights for the Price of 5" package (now discontinued) and are staying at least 7 nights, it is a better deal than this new offer. If you have one of those packages with only a 6-night stay in a Value resort, the new package may be a better deal.

You must book this special package by 3/27/10. Request special offer code QGX

From Mousemisers:

Travel Dates: January 3 – June 3, 2010

Walt Disney World has released a special Magic Your Way package deal for the travel dates listed above, where you can receive up to a $750 Disney Gift Card for free with your stay. There are a few requirements:

A minimum 5 night stay

A minimum 5 day Magic Your Way park pass

You must stay at a Disney World resort (Swan, Dolphin and Downtown Disney area resorts do not qualify)

Availability is extremely limited, especially during January and February. Blackout dates include March 27 – April 11, 2010. You may not check in during the black out dates. You can check in March 26 or before and extend into the black out period and still qualify. You can also check in June 3 and qualify for the free gift card.

You will receive the gift card at check in, it cannot be used to pay for part of your package. You must pay your package in full 45 days before travel. The gift card can be used anywhere in the Walt Disney World resort theme parks and resorts that accept credit cards, including restaurants, gift shops and to pay for your charges against your room. It can also be used at many Walt Disney World Downtown Disney merchants, at the Disneyland Resort, on the Disney Cruise or at the Disney Store. It can also be used to pay for a future Disney vacation.

Gift Card Amounts:

$300 – Disney World Value Resorts
$500 – Disney World Moderate Resorts
$750 – Disney World Deluxe Resorts
$750 – Disney World Deluxe Villa Resorts

Please note that you cannot combine discounts. If you have already booked a reservation with the buy 4 get 3 free discount or another discount, you can not add this to your reservation. You will need to compare your current reservation with the Disney Gift Card deal, and decide which option works better for you.

Question about "travel dates". (For this possible discount and others in general) If it says by June 3, does that mean you have to check in by June 3, or check out? We check in on May 31, out on June 7. Would we qualify? Anyone know? Thanks!!

I'm a little slow this morning - does this mean that the only discount is the gift card, or that there will be some percentage discount PLUS the gift card? And will this be the type of gift card that's only good for merchandise, or will it be good for food too?

Okay, if this rumor is true, and boy I hope it is, then I may have to take advantage of it. The one concern/question I have about the whole rebooking with better deals thing is what happens to existing ADRs that may be associated to the original reservation? Do they transfer to the new reservation without a problem or will there be a chance of lost ADRs? We are currently boooked through AAA for 6n/7d in May and are taking some friends with us for their first trip. This is our second. I would hate to lose dining reservations just to get a gift card.

We received this PIN last year and did use it. The dates were similar. The offer was like this:

Book any room (at rack rate) receive a $500 giftcard for a 5 day stay. This giftcard was for anything Disney, just like a regular giftcard you can buy at full. IT WAS NOT LIKE THAT $395/$500 card that they sell.

We were able to book up to 3 rooms with the PIN as long as travelling together. A one day pass, minimum was also a requirement of the PIN. We each got a one day pass, my husband and I had AP, my son in the other room was going to upgrade his to an AP!! We booked 2 rooms at ASMu, We received 2 $500 gifcards on checkin. YOu had to sign for receiving it. We used the cards as follows: One was used toward the upgrade of the 1 day pass to an AP (also got the 10% off passalong discount!) The other was used mostly for food. Each 6 night stay(we just booked 6 nights, didn't have to) with one day passes was under $900 per room! Thought this actually beat out Free Dining! (got to buy exactly the meals we wanted this way really no desserts) We also had TinW card, so we got 20% off and used WDW giftcard to pay!!

It was as follows: $500/5nights, $400/4 nights, $300/3 nights.

We are actually going to use some of the left over 1 day passes to go in Feb with the 40% off. Hoping to be able to use the AP code (our room at WL not available) HOpe this helps. I know it's last years offer but that's how it was.

I would bet that you have to get tickets. These offers are usually packages and packages require tickets.

Last time they offered the gift cards (non PIN) they did not let you use them for food.

With the PIN last year for the Free card, you could use it for anything-food, tickets etc. We had 2 (2 rooms) and used one basically for food purchases (along with TinW card) and the other to upgrade a 1 day pass to an AP (with 10%off passalong card) There Were NO restrictions on this card. I don't know if this year is different but we did do this last year.

And Easter Week is blacked out. I am telling you, I so regret going to WDW this Easter. No deals, holiday pricing at meals and for the DDP and no deal as of yet. We can only go during peak times now and if this is how it is, well maybe our Disney Days are winding down.

And please don't anybody give the supply and demand thing. I know that, I am just bummed that deal after deal comes out and nothing for our dates. We literally are on the brink of being able to afford this trip and I have already bought airfare. I have downgraded to a value and even that may just not work out due to a dh's job woes.

I am just so bummed.

We went the first week in february 2009 under Buy 4 get 3 and you got the $200 gift card. We used the gift card for everything - room internet charges, food, dining plan tips, souvenirs, ticket upgrade for little guy, etc.

If it is a stand alone $300 gc for value resorts, but you have to pay rack rate for the room, then I'll probably keep what I have as I have already paid (45 days was up 2 days ago). We are doing 30% off room, added the dining plan and 1 day passes for each of us. By the time we paid the change fee, paid more for dining out of pocket instead of using the dining plan (as we would drop dining plan and use the card for food), I think it would be a wash for us.

Fingers crossed its a room deal + $300....like earlier this year!!!!!A girl can dream! LOL!

Oh Brother. I have already booked the GF for 10 days with the 40% off pin code. Now the number crunching will have to start to see what is the better deal.

I would think off hand that the 40% off is a way better deal. The absolute cheapest rack rate at GF is 410.00 (value season, garden view). 40% of that is $164, times 9 nights is $1,476, which is almost double the amount of the gift card.

I am thrilled to hear about this. We are planning to go for 5 nites (just so happens) during Presidents week in Feb. I have booked air... I have park tickets for most in the party... but have held off on reserving a room as there is no disocunts we can use for that week.... YET.

Getting a $300 gift card is pretty good. Rack rate for room only at POP was $726 (so this equates to a 41% discount). I will be online Monday AM to book.

I hope they dont require us to buy tickets to get this deal. (I have more one day passes then I will probably ever use!)

the guess of what is going to be offered is a free gift card that has been stated. It will be a seperate offer and you can't combine offers as a rule. Last year the 4/7 offer came with a $200 free giftcard for the beginning of the offer. This one sounds like it is what the PIN was with a free giftcard last spring.

Thank you for that but we really just want the gift card if we can get it. Our package was a very generous wedding gift (we would never have been able to afford a honeymoon anywhere otherwise) so if we could get the gift card to give us some spending money while we are there that would be AMAZING.

I just called Disney (a couple times actually, to get different opinions) and was told by both that the card would be a merchandise card (not good for dining). I'm frustrated too. That is the week my nephew will be at WDW with his school's orchestra, and he really wants someone to come see him. I want to go, but I am choking on paying $130 a night for a Value, especially when I cannot find airfare for under $400 a person.

I went and double checked, and it is actually $145 a night for a Value. Even worse!

Have you tried Continental Airlines? I have been seeing fares for like $250 roundtrip/ person. That's not as bad. Have you tried Southwest as well? They often have really good prices.

Definitely not ideal but free money is free money. If nothing else, I can get my daughter that nice big Cinderella's castle for her room with it. Let's just hold out hope that dining will be included or they will put the 4/3 and 5/2 offers with it to balance it a little. Yeah, I know. Pipe dream. :lmao:

I have. If I could return the following Tuesday, instead of Saturday, the airfare does drop by as much as $200. I just don't know if I could handle that much alone time. My sis would obviously like to go, but there is no way she could leave the rest of her family for that long. Not to mention the saving would all be eaten up by the resort costs.

If it is merchandise only I will definitely not bite. If I bought $750 in merchandise I would have to pay the airline more to send it all home. I do not spend NEAR that much on "stuff" at Disney, BUT if we could not get the DDP and use it for all our dining I would consider it.

It is better than nothing, but with our finances the way they are it would not be enough to seal the deal for me. I do not need $750 worth of things to clutter up my house. That is A LOT of money to be used solely on merchandise.

If it is merchandise only I will definitely not bite. If I bought $750 in merchandise I would have to pay the airline more to send it all home. I do not spend NEAR that much on "stuff" at Disney, BUT if we could not get the DDP and use it for all our dining I would consider it.

Well, if that is the case, I will just buy a bunch of princess clothes for my daughter.

I just called Disney (a couple times actually, to get different opinions) and was told by both that the card would be a merchandise card (not good for dining). I told her that was not a very good deal (few people would go spend $750 on souviniers, right). Is this a very good deal???? What do you all think?

Called and was told the same thing. This will not make me book :lmao:

Well we got a pin, so if we go I think it will be a better deal for us, unless they have some sort of room discount with it.
if you can use the money only on merchandise, it's not enticing to me. I don't think things like BBB, pirates league and the pirate cruises are included in that, and those are things I would want to use it for.
We most likely would stay at Pop and if we did go, we many not even stay for 5 days. It will be more of a budget trip if we go. And flights from our town go back and forth on Sundays and Thursdays. So that meas 4 nights max. Of course I want to stay longer, but if it is a choice of 4 night or no nights, guess which I pick. LOL! I can't wait to hear what the actual deal is tho.

I definitely agree because if youre going do matter if there is a deal in place or not then this would work out great. I just dont think that this will lure in a lot of major bookings like a 4/3 deal would. We went under the 4/3 deal this year and dont have plans to go in 2010 yet because of possible other vacation ideas but let me tell you if the 4/3 deal or another similiar was offered, those other ideas would be put on hold and I would be booking Disney at a blink of an eye!

I am pretty sure that the gift card offer will be only on package reservations that include park tickets.

I believe you will have to make 2 separate reservations, one under your name and one under your husband's to get the two gift cards. For $1500 in gift cards it's totally worth it!

I've been doing some math this morning, comparing this new deal to the current Buy-4-Get-3-Free (b4g3) and Buy-5-Get-2-Free (b5g2). I could be wrong about all of this, but here's what I've got.

Note that the new discount requires a 5-day MYW base ticket purchase.

So far, the new promo seems to make sense for those:

1) Staying at a value resort for 6 nights on the Buy-5-Get-2 Free deal, where only 1 night would have been free. (The two scenarios I've seen include 1 adult and 2 adults, so I don't know yet whether kids make a difference).

2) Staying at a value resort for 5 nights with no discount, with 4-day MYW+PH tickets. In this case (2 adults and 2 kids), paying for the extra day on the MYQ tickets increases the total slightly, but getting the $300 gift card more than makes up for the difference.

I haven't seen other scenarios where this deal beats the original deals.

Anyone else re-priced their trips at this new rate? (Note: my original post didn't take into account this new discount's 5-day MYW ticket requirement. Sorry.)

When it comes to modifying an existing discounted package - I personally think, because you will now have to pay "full price" for your package, you'll find some people who would rather keep the discount they currently have even if the savings is less than the amount of the gift card they will receive. People are going to be hesitant to reach into their wallets and pull out another couple of hundred dollars towards their vacation just to get a gift card. I could be wrong but people are having a hard enough time getting the money together to pay for their discounted package. Now they'll have to scrape together even more money. That's just my opinion.

As for people who have no discount at all they will now have something.

If we pay rack rates for our room and use the $300 gc for food we would only save $73. If we can't use it for food then it does not help at all. Given the junk Disney for the most part only sells now in their gift shops, I'd probably spend mine on those over priced bottles of booze they also sell! I mean, time was when a gift card for merchandise would have made my day. But I have two teens now and I don't find Disney merchandise the huge temptation or desire it used to be for me.

So if its only good on merchandise, and they offer it for Easter Week, then I hope I can buy something I'll actually want and enjoy!

If you have to pay full rack rate to get a gift card which can't be used for food, then this deal doesn't make sense at all.

If you are saving $250 real dollars to get a $300 gift card, it's like getting 16%of merchandise. Plus, now you'll be buying items that you wouldn't have purchased with cash, but now that you have the card, it's like why not. This just seems like the past $395 for a $500 gift card, but with no room discount. i think the $250 is cash goes further than a $300 gift card or $400 for a $500. just my opinion

I have read through this entire thread and it seems people are saying different things as to what the giftcard can be used for. Can it be used for dining? What about non-restaurant dining . . . popcorn or a snack in one of the parks? What about alcohol? Can it be used to rent mouse boats?

If it can't be used for any of the above then it really isn't a saving at all for those of us who do not spend a lot of money on merchandise. I feel like I am missing something here. To me it's a win-win for Disney . . . they're not discouting anything but instead louring people into their shops.

What's the rumor that this will be offered along with the 4/3 or 5/2? That seems too unbelievable.

thanks for any info!!!

I currently have booked 1 BC room for 8 nights with a 40% pin code. I may have to book 2 rooms because we may have an extra guest. For now lets just stick with what i have, I am saving approx $1272 on the room. IF the discount includes a nominal say 20% room discount plus the $750 card CAN be used for food, then the deal gets very close at around $636 room discount plus $750 card equals total saving of $1386. If there is no room discount then i am better off with my 40%.

I have zero sources, but I'm 100% sure this gift card will be eligible for dining. All of the past offers Disney has done with gift cards has included dining and I don't see how this would be different.

The only exception is the merchandise card they sell... but I doubt that is what will be included in this package.

This offer is really only good for those of us that can't travel during the time frames available on the current offer. We were coming in late May no matter what and there were no discounts available for us. That makes the gift card meaningful for us. For those that already have a discount this gift card deal is worthless to them. Especially if it is only good on merchandise.

What I did was price my Poly GV at full price on the WDW website and it is $1200 more than my current price for the 7/4. We are staying 7 nights and are 2 adults, 2 children. Even the $750 gift card isn't a good deal for me. The other reason is that we really do not buy much anymore at Disney. If it is available to use for food that would be good for others that don't have a discount or are staying less than 7 nights.

The other thing people can do, if they were planning to, is to book another Disney vacation and use the gift card towards the amount due.

I would suggest those that want to compare and have a discount is to go to Disney's website and price your package at full price compared to what you are currently paying and make your decision based on those numbers.

We never buy "stuff" on a Disney vacation. Most of it is useless to me, the boys usually pick out 1 T-shirt and maybe something small, but honestly its alot of junk. We enjoy walking through the shops to look around, but never would spend hundreds of dollars on souveniers. I sooooo hope that we can use the gift card on FOOD! Then I would cancel the dining plan.

I also don't have a PIN (I've tried all the tricks as well) so getting ANYTHING would be lovely! :) I am really wishing pixie dust on us that this gift card can be used for food like it has in the past. I've just crunched some numbers for us and I'll likely drop off the dining plan and use the $300 gift towards food only if so. I realize we'll use more than the $300 but we'll still make out better since I wouldn't spend $300 on "stuff". Now don't get me wrong, I surely could but at least with putting it towards our dining I know it's saving me in the long run. The dining for us is $479.85 and going through our ADR's and picking out what we're likely to eat and then adding a "buffer" we'd only be out of pocket about $160.00 but since we're dropping the $479.85 it's a net savings of about $320 for us which is a decent savings!! :cool1:

We've had the dining plan for our first two trips and we've always enjoyed it and took advantage of trying different things. That said, we don't eat a lot and I usually drink water and rarely eat desserts so this won't be hard for us to share a dessert every now and then and not order many drinks. This way we can really compare the savings for the future trips.

If the card cannot be used on food, does that mean that it also cannot be used to cover the gratuities if you are on the DDP?

This just doesn't seem like much of a "deal" to me.

DisneyBabies
12-19-2009, 09:34 PM
Ok, so no one is really certain what this discount is going to be right?

I know a few people have called Disney and asked (myself included :flower3:) and either the CM knows enough to say it might include a giftcard that we might only be able to use for merchandise or the CM doesn't "know anything about any new discount" and if the did they couldn't tell us. I even emailed my TA to see if she had anymore information than we do and she doesn't.

I've seen a few disers post that getting the giftcard means we will have to pay rack rate for the room. But we got the b4g3 and a giftcard the last time.

So those of you that are running numbers already to see if the discount would be worth it, what are you basing your prices on?

I'll be on the site on Monday to see what the discount is and compare it to what I have now (I just can't wait for my TA to get back to me that night :flower3:) but I don't see how we can really speculate about if it is a good discount or not yet. The only thing I can even guess at at theis point is the giftcard (if we can use it for food :thumbsup2; if not, I'll use it to buy gifts for DC's teachers, nanny and gifts for DC's for NEXT Christmas :thumbsup2) Although, if you have any ideas to teach me to speculate, bring them on 'cause I can't wait for Monday :rolleyes1.

I do hope that the discount works out well for those that can use it. Good luck everyone!

I know they probably offer better deals to UK residents because they have to travel farther, but this seems similar to what is being talked about gift-card wise:

Pulled from UK Disney site:

Enjoy your FREE extra holiday spending money as you like at a wide variety of locations around Walt Disney World Resort, as payment towards meals, shopping, tours, entertainment, recreation and much more. Visit www.DisneyGiftCard.com for further details.

Stay at a Disney Value Resort and receive a $350 USD Disney Gift Card
Stay at a Disney Moderate Resort and receive a $550 USD Disney Gift Card
Stay at a Disney Deluxe Resort and receive a $750 USD Disney Gift Card
Stay at a Disney Deluxe Villa Resort and receive a $1000 USD Disney Gift Card

PLUS SAVE 20% on selected Walt Disney World Resort Hotels!
During the same period, you can also save 20% on your accommodation when you stay at selected Resorts - and even better, these savings are combinable with the Disney Gift Card offer.

SAVE 20% when you stay at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa or Disney's Old Key West Resort, PLUS receive a $1,000 USD Disney Gift Card
SAVE 20% when you stay at Disney's Yacht Club or Disney's Beach Club Resorts, PLUS receive a $750 USD Disney Gift Card

They get to use their gift card as a gift card, so hopefully that carries over to our deal. They also get room discounts, but only on select resorts. As for my family and our May trip, the 40% off code is probably better for us, unless it is offered with a room discount.

This deal is from Jan to mid-May. They also already have a free dining offer for the fall (mid-Aug to Nov 1st) up on the UK site.

Mid May? I hope that is not true or I am left out in the cold yet again.

This is for the UK deal. According to the rumors, the US deal should go to sometime in June I think. I only posted the details because the gift card offering seemed very similar to the rumors going around. Since they get a gift card and not a merch card, hopefully that will be the type of card offered to US folks. They also have a fall free dining offer out, which is similar (but not exactly the same as) the deal offered this past fall for the US. So maybe these two deals will be similar, but probably not exactly the same. Something to think about, anyway, while we wait in anticipation.

I will someone would answer your last question though...what time do deals usually come out?

I'm from the UK and hae taken up the 20% off the YC - Disney UK were offering (for my dates in May - not all the way through), 20% off the YC, BC, SSR or OKW. You also get a $1,000 gift card but only if you are staying 14 nights. As my trip is 7 nights I don't qualify for the gift card but I'm more than happy with the 20% off the YC - I sometimes book my stays through Disney US but the £/$ rate isn't great at the moment and it was quite a bit more expensive for me to book through Disney US on this occasion.

I hope everything manages to get a deal that works for them :goodvibes

The rumor is that the hotel package will be at full price so what I did is go to disneyworld.com and priced out what I currently have booked at full price. The difference between full price and the 7/4 deal at the Polynesian with 2 adults, 2 children is $1200 less

To me the $750 gift card for deluxe hotels isn't worth changing my package.
Even if my savings was only $700 it wouldn't be worth it to me to pay $700 more out of my pocket just to get a gift card that may or may not be used for food.

For me, I've got nothing for my dates so anything is a step up. I wish the buy four get more deal was going on because that would have been great because that also included tickets.

As part of our planning we always put aside money for personal items. The gift card isn't ideal but it will allow for us to move some of the pieces around and will make a difference for us... just not as much as we would like.

I have zero sources, but I'm 100% sure this gift card will be eligible for dining. All of the past offers Disney has done with gift cards has included dining and I don't see how this would be different.

The only exception is the merchandise card they sell... but I doubt that is what will be included in this package.

Oh well, we'll see on Tuesday.

When I did the Travel Agent program at WDW, they gave us each a $50 merchandise card and we WERE able to use it for dining....so I would think that these cards would apply. Here's hoping! :thumbsup2

I just did some number crunching and found that for my 8 night trip in May, this rumored deal comes out good under the following conditions:

Paying rack rate for the first 5 nights with 8 day tickets and 5 nights dining, earning $500 gift card with moderate booking
Using my 30% off pin code for the same moderate resort (split stay reservation)
Assuming I can use the gift card for tips while on the dining plan and to make up for lost dining plan on the additional nights (will still have $ left over

Even accounting for the loss of dining credits the last few days, I come out slightly ahead of what we would have had with the 4/3 deal after adding 1 more night :cool1:

The rumor is that the hotel package will be at full price so what I did is go to disneyworld.com and priced out what I currently have booked at full price. The difference between full price and the 7/4 deal at the Polynesian with 2 adults, 2 children is $1200 less

To me the $750 gift card for deluxe hotels isn't worth changing my package.
Even if my savings was only $700 it wouldn't be worth it to me to pay $700 more out of my pocket just to get a gift card that may or may not be used for food.

See, this is the part I don't understand. The hotel package being full price is pure conjecture at this point. There hasn't been the slightest confirmation of this from Disney. There has been tentative confirmation that the discount will include a gift card, but beyond that no one can say what the discount will entail.

I guess I'm just trying to figure out why everyone is running these numbers without knowing what they should be running. I mean what happens tomorrow if it turns out there is a discount on the rooms plus the gift card. That means everyone who already decided that this discount isn't good has to rerun numbers again.

I'm all for the "Oh, I hope it is this or that or something else."; I guess I just wonder why this discount is being discounted (pun intended :lmao:) before it is even released.

I have run both numbers, with a room discount and without. So i know for sure it has to be a minimum of 20% room discount plus gift card can be used for food.

I'm on the phone now updating our package to the new special. I really need a discount - but I would be crazy to turn down the 750 since I have nothing else. I can use it to pay for my 2 girls meals (they are under 3 so they can't be on the dining plan) and for some of their birthday gifts and our tips. I am still working on and hoping for a pin.

if you're on a 7 day stay at a deluxe with the B4G7 package, you're probably better off with that deal. At least that's the way it worked out for me. I just ran my current package (7 nights at Poly GV, 2 adults, 2 children, DDP) through on the website and even with the gift card calculated in, it would cost me about $400 more. While it would have been nice to get the gift card like they did last year, I'm not complaining. I'm very happy with my current deal.

I was told that the black out dates are March 28-April 10th and they are hard black out dates. Anyone arriving during this time cannot get the offer. In the past they had black out dates but there was very limited availability. This time they are saying no availability at all during these dates

Just called this morning and had the code applied to our existing reservation.

We didn't have a previous code so anything is a step up. I asked the lady adding the code if there were restrictions to the card and she said I could use it on anything and then she went on to say "food, tips, alcohol, t-shirts, just about anything you want. You can even save it for your next trip." I thought that was pretty fair.

Another nice poster had posted a link for the use of the Gift cards and to reiterate, it can be used on dining - which is fabulous! :) We also did not have anything but a small AAA discount (which I know we'll lose) so now we'll be able to drop the dining and save approx $320 total off the price which is awesome for us! :cool1: I know so many people have received pins so this probably doesn't feel as great, but for the "pinless", this is something to smile about! :rotfl2:

I'm just waiting for the office to open so I can have them add the code to our existing reservation and drop the dining.

Why do you use one then? WDW reservations are easy to do yourself and you can call as soon as an offer is out there. Rooms go quickly. We tried to get a standard room at the WL (there are rooms avail w/ no discount or this new offer) w/ the AP discount none on the first day! There also aren't any with the 40% pin or the GP offer.

This Giftcard discount stinks.

First its not avail on 2/14 in a value - so I was going to move up to a moderate since that date is not blacked out.

Now I hear you have to buy the 5 day pass. That is a deal breaker in my eyes.

So I am still stuck paying rack rates at Pop.

From what I understand the Photopass discount is automatic when you book through Disney. But make certain you are set up to receive email offers from Disney or they won't sent it. If you book through a TA you need to discuss it with them so they can make sure you get it.

I get discount tickets from work (I work with a firm that has a significant relationship w Disney). And I get 10 day no expire passes... So I only buy them once every other trip.

I have been an annual passholder in the past as well - but am not at the moment.

I have many many one day passes from all the discounts of late that require the purchase of one day passes.

Paying full price for ticets wipes out much (of not all) of the gift card value in my opinion.

Can you use that gift card towards DDP?

I don't see that being possible since you do not get the gift card until you arrive and dining has to be added to your ressie prior to arrival.

Do you mean booking a vacation starting on June 2nd or 3rd? If so, I am not sure. I do know that my vacation extended past the June 3rd cut off date (we depart on the 5th) and I was able to take advantage of the promo.
Yes, the girls last day of school is June 2nd and we are looking to arrive either the 2nd or 3rd and check out the 9th or 10th.

I know so many people have received pins so this probably doesn't feel as great, but for the "pinless", this is something to smile about! :rotfl2:

For us, I think the GC deal will save us $150-$245 per room over our PIN code, depending on where we stay. We are getting two rooms, so that would be a savings of $300 to almost $500. We will then use the 20-30-40 percent off code to book our remaining days and add on to the 5-day tix. I think the PIN code is better for those staying in more expensive deluxe resorts, suites or higher-level rooms. We would just want a standard room at WL if staying deluxe or book two standard rooms, instead of a suite or cabin, at the values or mods.

I'm thinking about all the possibilities: Can you use the gift card to book another trip? And if you can, can you apply that gift card to a potential bounceback offer (if there is one in your room?) And for the photopass -- I understand you get a discount because you're staying on Disney property, but can you actually pay for the photopass with the gift card? Hmmmmm. So many possibilities.

I have no clue whats best.... the 4/3 deal with DDP is about the same price as without dining and $500 gift card.

DDP is about $900.00 for us so i would be out $400 in food from my math :confused3

Blah ill just stick with what i have now

I know you cannot use it to add the dining plan because the dining plan cannot be added when you check in. It has to be added at least 4 days before you arrive

I don't know about the park tickets

So after an hour of "disney math", I changed my reservation. Previously booked using 30% room discount for 7 nights with dining and 1 day passes for 2 adults and 1 child (child to be upgraded to 5 day at gate). Ended up re-booking with a combo of the new package and the 30% general public room only code.

Old price- 7 nights at pop @ 30%, 7 days ddp (2 Adults & 1 child), 2 adult 1 day passes, 1 child 5 day pass, ddp tips for $1600.

New price - 5 nights @ pop (rack), 2 nights at pop @ 30%, 5 days ddp (2 Adults & 1 child), 2 days OOP food(same eating itinerary), 2 adult 5 day passes, 1 child 5 day pass, ddp tips for $2000 - $300 gift card = $1700.

So by doing the split reservation, it works out to be $100 more money total on an already discounted package, but dh and I now get 5 day park passes instead of 1 day passes for $50 more a ticket. Had 4 day passes left on no exp. tickets, but for $50 each - we will take the tickets

Worked for us, because all of our more $$ table service reservations were earlier in the week anyway so losing 2 days on the ddp was a big savings for those 2 days. It actually worked out better for us than the buy 5/get 2 deal as well. If I took the $300 off the room price then it is $172.50 total for the first 5 nights (63% savings) and the last 2 nights are 30% off.

I'm happy!

From what I am getting, this gift card is not really free...my guess is you are paying for it someway when you book your trip. At least that is what my travel agent told me. She said sometimes these are good deals, but for us we got the buy 4 night stay for 7, so to change my resevations, I would lose 2 nights and 3 days, and end up paying over $1000 more for a $500 gift card...so in the end, I am paying for it.

I do hope they come out with new deals soon, but this sounds like a great deal for those that only can afford 3 nights, you can get the 5 nights, and get a gift card. Glad some of you are able to use it!!

Do I wait, keeping my fingers firmly crossed, hoping for our normal free dining for the end of August?

Oh man, now I have to check on flights.

Okay, my TA was able to get me the $300 gc, we arrive on 3/26 and depart on 4/5. So even though our dates fell in the blackout period, our arrival date was before that and they gave it to us. I have confirmation with it all spelled out from Disney so apparently if your arrival falls within the dates, you are set! I am so happy, $300 is something and will be very helpful. This also seals the deal we will not do the QSDP, it was not going to save us much anyway and we probably would have been eating more than we wanted anyway. Now we can just use the gc towards meals.

I am really confused now. I just called Disney and the cm told me that we had to complete our travel (ie check out) by June 3rd to get the card . . . BUT if I go to book it online it is showing my dates as available for the promo code. :confused3 What to do now?? Call again and see if a different cm tells me something different? Book online using the promo code and hope I am not surprised when we arrive? It is looking like I am back to square 1 again.

ETA I just went and rechecked the website and it says:
Valid for arrivals on 1/3-1/11/10, 1/19-3/27/10 and 4/11-6/3/10.
and we will arrive June 2nd so we should be fine, and that would be why the online system was letting me use the code.

My TA got us the deal (see my above post) and our dates (except for arrival) fell during the blackout times. I would book that online and print out the confirmation that you have the gift card.

It clearly states arrival on certain dates then you get it.

As someone already postd from the on-line, it clearly says arrivals by 3/27 but its not working. You really need to finish travel by the blackout date.

unfortunately, because our dates begin April 8th, the new offer does not add up for us. We would have to add a day on the back end and even with the $750 deluxe gift card, we only net a savings of $200, not incluing changing our flights :confused3. Pretty tedious info, but some will here will know what I mean. thank you.

Our TA is confident that other offers will come after the first of the year and before April: fingers crossed.

Rhonda Ctvrtnik at Dreams Unlimited. I tried doing it myself too, but was unable to as well, although for me it said "offer not available" which could mean the deal was sold out for my dates/resort already. She emailed me my confirmation she got from Disney so that makes me feel better. But I have to admit, I'm still a bit nervous. I don't know. I was only assuming they would accept the card since you can view and pay for your Photopass photos at the following locations, according to wdwinfo:

You can see and purchase prints of your photos in the Theme Parks You can also purchase Disney’s PhotoCD for $149.95 at the locations below:
• Magic Kingdom - Exposition Hall on Main Street
• Epcot - Camera Center - Future World
• Disney-MGM Studios - Cover Story on Hollywood Boulevard
• Disney’s Animal Kingdom - Garden Gate Gifts
• Downtown Disney Marketplace - Between Team Mickey and Arribas Bros.
• Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa - M. Mouse Mercantile

Resort Portrait locations also offer photo viewing and ordering.

So if the gift card can really be used anywhere in WDW where credit cards are accepted, couldn't you use it for Photopass, too:confused3

Can you book 2x 5 days at different resorts with the deal and get the following:
Ressie 1. 5 days hotel, gift card, 10 day tickets with PH

Not every offer is the best deal for everyone. It depends on how many days you are staying, dates, where you are staying, the number of people in your party. If you have a different discount, that one maybe better.

This is true, as it was in our case. To get the $500 GC we would have to change from 7 nights to 5 and it would have cost about an extra $1000...so for us, we would be just paying for GC...and they told us they will not double dip, as we got the buy 4 nights get 3 free.

If you have to pay extra to get the GC than it seems as though that is not the deal for you. Good Luck...hopefully new deals will come out soon.

By the way, I had to laugh when I told the gentleman at Disney that I saw this on the dis boards....he said " Ohhh the wonderful dis boards"....:rotfl2: Guess you all here know your stuff, even more than those that work at disney!!!

True statement for us. DH and I did the math today (took a while :upsidedow) and found that to switch our ressie from the 4/3 would actually cost us $400. We have 2 rooms at CSR, 7 day hoppers, no dining. The 4/3 savings on the rooms is really a good deal, about a 43% discount off room rack rate!

As frustrating as it can be to try and run all the numbers it really is a good idea. Everyone's situations are a bit different. I'm glad to hear the GC is good for dining, that will be helpful to folks who don't have a better discount! :goodvibes

Those tickets will be good for 14 days after they are first used. So if you don't use them for the first time until next year... then they are good until 14 days from next year. I have many tickets just like this....

If you plan to do this, I suggest getting the 5 day passes removed from the room keys on the second batch (and put them on to paper park passes) as if you were to mistakenly swipe the new room key into a turnstile, your 14 days will begin then. You can have these tickets removed from the keys at any ticket window at any of the parks. Do it on Day 6 to avoid a problem.

Last year, while the offer was a little different, the giftcard sounds the same. We were able to upgrade one of the 1 day passes (only had to prebuy a 1 day per person last year) and use one of the free $500 giftcards to upgrade to an AP (also we were allowed to use the 10% off Passalong card). The other $500 giftcard was used mainly for food and we combined that with the Tables in Wonderland card as well for 20% off!! It really was a deal too good to pass up (PIN last year for a $500 per room any hotel as long as you stayed 5 nights.)

I got this by taking $2459.29 and subtracting $500. That gave my $1959.29. I then added $133 to that and got $2092.29. I then took your current package of $2510.62 and subtracted $2092.29. This gave a savings of $418.33.

Maybe I am doing something wrong (wouldn't be surprising with four kids 2-6 years old yelling in the background,) but that is what I got.

Have you thought about a split stay? All weekend long I kept doing that math and coming up with the conclusion that this deal would cost us about $180 extra (when compared to our 40% PIN) because I was pricing the GC package with all seven days. Then I realized that I only needed to buy 5 nights to get the GC and could do the other two nights with our 40% off code. This is going to save us $300-$500 for the trip, depending on where we stay (we are getting two rooms.) We would get the most savings ($500) by staying in a mod room, as opposed to a value or deluxe room. There is a chance that we may have to move rooms, but maybe not.

Without a split stay on the GC deal, you would be paying full price for the last three nights, without any added benefit. If you can get those last three nights at a discount, that would add to your savings.

I was excited to see this deal. I am staying for 6 nights at POP in....oh about 2 weeks now!:cool1: I used the buy 5, get 2 free, but I only got one night free since we have a 6 night stay. Total savings off my package was about $110. With this deal, we had to add the $110 back onto our package price, but when we get there we get $300 to spend. We would have spent that money OOP anyhow - tips, refillable mugs, a trip to BBB, extra food and keepsakes! So between my disney visa reward card and this giftcard, I would say I need $0 spending money at Disney during our stay.

I'm very happy with this deal! I guess it's $190 swing to the good for us.

That being said, I'm wondering if the giftcard expires, and also if it can be used on anything when we get home...such as dvds or toys. (Just in case we have a balance)

I came up with the same thing, but after I reread the post I think it is worded awkwardly and they are saying that the 2459.29 is AFTER the $500 is taken off and the insurance is added on.
Personally I say $60 is $60, but not everyone sees it the same. Plus they already had a discount so of course it wouldn't be as much of a deal as it would be for someone who does not have a deal at all.

If you leave with a balance you are better than me! I use the gift card to rationalize being able to get more stuff. After all if I plan to spend a certain amount on stuff outside food then I can still spend that amount after I've used up the gift card, right? :rotfl:

While not as good as the 4/3 deal, this one is working out well for us. DD is a picky eater and on this spring's trip will be 10.. thus and adult on the DDP. I decided it would not be worth spending money on the DDP to end up scheduling a bunch of character breakfastes to be able to use the TS credits. We'll use the GC to cover our food.

Yeah, sorry if I worded it wrong, the $2459 is after I took away the $500. Total to start is $2826 plus insurance. Oh well. $60 is still a savings and will buy a few Mickey bars! I should crunch the numbers though and see what happens if I do the 5 day package and then the other 3 nights with the AAA discount. Thanks.

You need to have a room and park tickets on each ressie to get 2 GC.

Everyone in our group is going to have the same thing; everyone has to have the same thing when you're getting a package - room, tickets, etc. And you have to get a package to get the gift card. There's 7 of us so we'll need two rooms. So... I guess we get 2 gift cards!

You might be able to use it at the parks, but I'm pretty sure you can't use it on the photopass site, as it isn't owned by Disney.

According to http://www.disneygiftcard.com/where/disney-photopass you can!!! :goodvibes

Has anyone gotten their confirmation email since having them put the Gift Card promo onto their reservation?

I called on Monday and got the promo; today I received the confirmation email, but it doesn't say ANYthing about the Gift Card promo having been added to my reservation. It is a short email, and it just says I have the reservations for such-n-such dates, here's how much it costs, here's how much has already been paid, here's what $ is due.

Do I assume the Gift Card is actually in there, or do I need to call again to make sure?

Thanks!

Thanks SummerIrmoma2_3 for pointing that out. I knew I had to be missing something, but figured I'd post the info just in case it helped. I agree that $60 is $60 in a normal situation, but some (including myself) may be hesitant to switch if it means paying more out of pocket up front. She'll be paying $2,826 upfront, instead of $2,510 to get the $60. But, if she can up that savings with, say, a split stay, maybe it will be more worthwhile.

jlcd, I hope a split stay works for you. Like I said, it will save us $245 on each mod room, just by switching from the 30% PIN for those 5 days, to the GC (that savings amount does not include the extra 40% we will be saving on the two other days.) With the PIN we save $255 off of $850; with the GC, we get $500. If you are going during a higher season (we are going during reg season,) this will eat into your savings, but hopefully it will be a good savings for you.

I got the same email after calling to add the deal Monday morning. Also, when I log in to "My Vacation" on the Disney website it doesn't say anything about it. The only thing that is different is that in the last email, the package now says CARIBBEAN BEACH- SGV / MAGIC YOUR WAY DLX DINE - OL, it sued to say CARIBBEAN BEACH- PAY / MYW PKG + DLX DINE - OL. So something must have changed, but I may call just to be sure they have it right, and maybe see if they can email me that link OP mentioned...better safe than sorry!

You need to have a room and park tickets on each ressie to get 2 GC.

So you need to have two different ressie's? We have a family of five staying in two rooms at Pop but are all on the same ressie number. So that would be only 1 GC if I were to switch?

We booked with the 2 free nights (7 day reservations), meal plan and 6 day PH tix. I am still trying to figure out what is better. I have holiday brain and things are firing correctly at this point! :rolleyes1

Good for you! That's pretty much how my experience was. Took me less than 5 minutes. I had given up thinking there would be any special offers during my travel time which is, by the way, nearly the exact times as you. We arrive on the 27th and leave on June 5th.

Just for the record, there is no way you can make out with the new special using a two package split stay, unless you are going by yourself. Even with only two people, it costs 486 dollars for a five day base ticket for both. You would be much better off booking a 5 day package, get the gift card and use AAA for the second five days. Then you can use the gift card to upgrade your five day tickets to ten, much cheaper.
Yjou cant' use the gift card for the original tickets that make the package the package, but you can upgrade the tickets when you get there.

An easy way to do it is, if you're like most people, you put charging privilages on your room card, use that to upgrade the tickets, along with whatever else you charge during your stay and before you check out, use the gift card to help pay for the costs you incurred on your room key.

My family is going for 10 days starting on January 1. This package deal is valid beginning January 3. If we do a split reservation (The first for Jan 1/2 and the 2nd for Jan 3 - 10 under the gift card package deal), does anybody know if we can start using the tickets from the package deal on Jan 1/2 or would we have to buy separate tickets for the days that precede the package? ok, just looked at my emails, and there is a difference in the coding in the email now. i don't have a clue what it means, but thought someone else might.

before adding extra night and gift card:
POP CENTURY CLSSC- MWB / MYW PKG + QUICK SRV DINE - OL

after adding extra night and gift card:
POP CENTURY CLSSC- TNK / MYW QUICK SRV DINE - OL

other than the dates listed, this is the only info on the email that's different.

Tickets start when you first check in and are good until midnight of the day you check out.

Make sure you figure out the costs of the extra tickets when you are figuring in the discounts... Single and 2 day tickets are expensive... you save $ the longer you stay...

Yup... you're not officially there on the package until the day it starts...

You might want to see if they are having any specials (google mousesavers)
and try to get a room only ressie and then get your tickets separately.

Price it all out... see which is better... are you doing the food plan? That's usually only on package rates or if you are DVC or Annual pass members.

see what works out best...

You can look here for ticket prices... the more days you stay there the cheaper it is...

thurowb.....so you are talking 2 nights, which is really only one day. we never go to a park check in day, we enjoy the resort pool while we wait for our room, then have dinner at the resort restaurant (if it's a mod). maybe the next day you could go to a water park, or downtown disney (you CAN use your planet hollywood voucher ahead of time, it comes in the mail, we have done this. you could mini golf. the very next morning, check in with the package(if you are a late nighter, maybe you could do this at midnight?
this way you are not buying the first 2 (expensive )park days twice. we actually like non-park days.

also, if you want to stay at the sam3e resort, have them make a note of it at the first check-in, so maybe you can keep the same room.

for all you people with the 4/3 discount. that is better. this GC discount was not meant to add on to that.

last year, they extended the 4/3. that is what we were hoping for. this year, they did the GC offer instead
of extending the 4/3. be very happy you got the 4/3 for the time you are going and don't waste your time trying to figure out which is best. the GC is less of a discount. Iger said they would be cutting back on the discounts in 2010 (although hubby pointed out that his quote said at the later half of 2010).
