Very cool. I tried to get a look in over by the BBQ area and almost immediatly a cast member showed up out of the nowhere and told me I was not allowed back there. I am quite jealous to say the least.

I am certain Disney would not be thrilled that those pictures were taken. I kind of relate seeing these pictures to seeing the aftermath of a storm. You really want to look but it is kind of voyeuristic. Sometimes it is better to let someone or something rest in peace.

It really is sad. I wish I had a chance to see it in all it's glory way back when. Anybody notice the #'s of hit's it's getting? In the last 7 hrs, it went from 85000 to over 90000 views. It's making it way all over the net apparently.
I like seeing the pictures but I hate seeing all the attention it's getting. It looks like a cool place to explore if you could but this will probably make Disney do something about it- fence it off better if nothing else.

I honestly can't believe that Disney hasn't torn down the abandoned RC area by now. Seeing those pictures of the items left behind in that "shack" is just disturbing, especially the employee recognition plaque.

Very Sad. Went there once as a child with my family. Really enjoyed it.
Just one more reminder that in spite of all the pixie dust, Disney World is a business and when your business purpose is no longer financially feasible to maintain, you fade away, only to be reclaimed by Mother Nature. Another 15-20 years and I doubt much will remain recognizable.
Sad. :sad1:

It would have been perfect for our last trip. We camped at Fort Wilderness, so we were very close. My kids love water parks, but they prefer the swimming and play areas to the slides.
It's too bad that it didn't make it. For a while after it closed, I held out hope that they were mothballing it for a few years until demand increased again. I had already given up on that hope, but these pictures certainly make it clear that it will never re-open, at least not without a complete rebuild.
My oldest spent a little time at River Country when he was a toddler. In fact, that is where he first mastered the fine art of drinking from a straw. We were huddled under a thatch covered table waiting out a summer thunderstorm while he was playing with his drink.
One of these days I'll dig out my negatives of the trip and scan them.

It would cost Disney too much $$$ to demo the site. It is far cheaper to fence off.
