Monorail Troubles

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Dec. 13) -- A power failure stranded about 300 passengers for a couple hours aboard three monorail trains at Walt Disney World.

Bo Jones of the Reedy Creek Fire Department says no one was injured when the monorail system lost power around 1 a.m. Sunday.

Jones says firefighters used ladders to assist some visitors aboard one train "more out of customer service than as an emergency situation." Other passengers disembarked later when the trains were towed to nearby stations.

The 15-mile monorail service was restored by the time the parks opened later Sunday morning.

Getting stuck on the monorail for a couple hours would be bad enough, but at 1:00am, when you're leaving the park exhausted and just want to get back and sleep...that stinks!

I can imagine that there were lots of scared and crabby kids!

Disney World is for adults,,to this day I still have not seen one single little kid pay for their parents to go to Disney.

With me it would be Iced Tea!!! I've heard people say they never get in an elevator if they need to go, just in case it gets stuck;:scared1: add the monorail to that!!!:thumbsup2

We paid for my parents to come with us this past May, they stayed with us at the Fort and kept the kids a couple nights so the wife and I could have some time alone to enjoy the world. Worked out great!

The monorails are outdated glorified fiberglass. I say demolish them. I'm just kidding. I always say you gotta take your first trip to the MK on the monorail just because then take the boat back. I hardly ever ride it anymore since we don't park at the MK lot but it's still fun to ride when we do.

Staying at the Fort, the monorail is not all that useful. But about 20 years ago my parents took us down and we stayed at the Ploynesian. On that trip, the monorail was great. I was too young to drive, but old enough to have some freedom. I guess we had park hoppers because my parents let me go to the parks on my own while they did their own thing at the hotel. It was the basis for my love of the World because I was able to explore and go where I wanted to go. I remember having all of the monorail routes so down that I could make it back to the hotel in less than 15 minutes from anywhere in the World (this was before AK, or at least I didn't go there). I did get on the wrong train once, though, and had to run down the walking path from the transportion center back to the Poly in order to make curfew! Still one of my favorite memories.
