View Full Version : YEE-HAW!!! PamOKW, I Hope This Doesn't Mean We Aren't Heroes Any More.....

The phone on my desk rang just a little bit ago, I answered, and there was our guide, Jackie, who I knew I hadn't given my number at work. DH called her and, unbeknownst to me, bought our initial block of 150 points!!!! Then he had her call to tell me. I'm in such a state of shock, after my disappointment with the decision we felt we had to make last night. When I called DH after speaking with Jackie, he told me that with a little minor (?) juggling around, we should be fine, our oldest can still go to the State college he currently attends, our second one can go to Northeastern, we can go to....DISNEY!!! We hope to be able to add 50 pts. here and there as we can. That way, by the time we go meet Walt on the 'other side' our kids and grandkids will have all the points they need -- LOL!
Thanks to Tricia, Lisa, and Pam for the kind words of commiseration and encouragement. Vacation Club people are so kind and helpful --

MinnieMe,
Congratulations! My dh put a deposit down just yesterday from work also. I did not know he was doing it...we had discussed it, but I didn't think he'd do it so soon. I am still in shock. I spoke with our guide last night so it is starting to feel real.
I can't wait for my Fed-Ex package. The guide said it will take until maybe Friday as they are quite busy this week.

I have 2 in college. You need to keep your sanity while you educate your kids. I don't know how you handle your tuition payments - I picked up a tip from a friend that put the tuition on a credit card and then financed the tuition on his home equity loan. If you use a credit card that is linked to a frequent flyer program (for example Citibank Mastercard works with American Airlines)
you can get free airline tickets to get you to Disney while you are paying tuition. I have earned 8 airline tickets while paying for my kids
college education. It isn't a plan for everyone, but I thought I'd mention it.

Although I can't welcome you home (I wish I could), I'd like to say how happy I am for you! What a treat. I would just fall out and expire if something as wonderful as this happened in my case. I don't expect it to but I am happy your hubby was able to sprinkle some DVC pixie dust on you. I do hope to join you at "home" one day.

Thank you all so much--
Lisa, I hope to see you 'at home' one day.
BobH, thanks for the advice. Actually, I work for a State college (I see you're from Sterling. I work at Fitchburg), and one of my 'benefits' is free tuition. But the State keeps lowering tuition and raising fees!!! The credit card/home equity is a good suggestion and we may just jump on that bandwagon.
Tricia, this is the first time my husband has ever surprised me in quite this fashion -- but I'm glad he did. And I'm sure the shock will wear off soon!!

what a great surprise! i was just reading your disappointed post and now you are at the other end of the spectrum. we had to wait until our son was a sophmore at college before we could buy in-due to the tuition payments the first year. it does take a bit of juggling, but it is certainly worth it. welcome home!

Well, this is certainly good news. May I also welcome you home. Pretty soon you will be plotting on how to add points. One of the best parts is no more worrying about when to call to get a DC or AP rate. :D

Congratulations and Welcome Home!! That had to be about the best surprise he could have done! I know about the college thing we have 2 enrolled right now at out of state and private universities. Way I look at it is this is a way to insure we can keep close as they get older- we can now afford to take them and their future families to WDW.

Some of the best times my family has had were at Disneyworld. My kids are grown, but my 21 year old daughter and 19 year old son are both going to be able to enjoy the Disney experience for years to come. We all look at it as a great place for both separate vacations and family reunions until 2041.

My goodness, what nice responses we've received. Like some of you, our kids are older (3 boys 21, 19, 17 and our daughter is 14), but we felt this would be a good way to continue vacationing as a family or as individuals. It looks like our 19-year-old and two friends will be going down for four days after graduation, which Mom thinks is a better idea than Beach Week! And we hope to take a 'family' vacation in August. We're all very excited!
