View Full Version : At Old Key West you enter the rooms from inside right?

Hey,

We are staying at Old Key West in a little over a week and I'm just a little confused. I assume you enter the rooms from an inside corridor? I thought maybe not since the buildings seem similar to Caribbean Beach. Does anyone have any good pics of the outside of the buildings and the inside cooridors (if that's where you enter)? Thanks so much! We are not DVC members but rented points!

Stayed there two years ago in two bedroom, from what I saw all entrances are from outside. The whole complex reminds me of a small town vs. a hotel. There really is no 'parking lot' rather spaces in front of each building, again, that small town feel. Other detail better answered by someone who's been there more than once....

There are no inside corridors at Old Key West.

Hey,

So exactly where are the balconies for the rooms?

Thanks

They are off the back overlooking either the golf course or lake area. Have a magical stay.

The buildings at OKW are arranged in clusters and it does look like a small village or a really nice condo area. The rooms at CBR are arranged back to back (the bathroom wall of one room is against the bathroom wall of the room behind it) so the only window at CBR is on the same wall as the door and there are long outside corridors.
The villas at OKW are just one villa deep. Your area goes from the front of the building to the back, so you have a front entry door and a back area. That's where the windows and balcony are.
The entrances to each villa are at the front of the building, with a covered walkway and you enter directly from outside (no inside corrider). The entry areas are set back, so there isn't a long row of doors along the front; it's more private feeling. There is a small parking area in front of each building. Since the windows and balconies are at the back, there are only green space, wooded, water and golf course views. NO Parking lot views.

Here's a

link to the DIS page about OKW (http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/resorts/okw.htm) which has a link to a resort map and

This picture shows pretty much a typical balcony view and you can get a good idea of how the balconies are arranged on the buildings.

And here's a link to the official Disney website OKW page. (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/waltdisneyworld/resorts/resortindex?id=HRSOldKeyWestResortRsrt)

Here are room diagrams:

The parking lot would be at the bottom, along with the steps to the second and third floors. Only buildings 62, 63 & 64 have elevators.

Think of OKW as a condo rather than a hotel. You enter your front door from the outside. The entrances are also angled so you have sort of a "private" entrance. You aren't looking down a row of doors like in a motel. You also park your car right out front. Yes, there is a front balcony area similar to CBR.

When looking at a map to consider views, the "view" is out the back of the unit. SueM's pictures are a good example. The balconies you see in the pictures are the "back". In fact, there are very few (if any) windows in the units that look toward the "front". You enter your door and are transported into your own little world. ;)

And now, killer ducks, too. ;)

Not mine. Although I'm always worried about the ducks at Epcot attaching us. DD used to tease them by throwing some food to them and then pretending to throw more food.

I always wondered about that picture too. They usually discourage people from walking around on the golf course.

I dunno... the picture looks like some entry-level image processing to me. Notice how the grass in the foreground completely changes color, just below the wife's elbow? I think the family on the grass, the ducks, and the background were merged together to get that picture.

I think that's one of the green areas from the golf course and it looks sort of pasted in because of foreshortening with the lens and camera angle they chose. The picture is from the official Disney site and is probably a real picture - just highly staged. Can you imagine real kids staying that still with ducks that close. And you can see what looks like the shadow of the photographer's head near the bottom edge of the picture.

And, I don't even want to think about the bug bites they'll all have when they stand up.

And even the ducks are "actors". Those are the type of duck you have for a pet. The ducks at OKW are the "real" thing with lots of color!

I posted these threads from our trip last Nov. The thread for a studio has a pic of the front door.
