Would you feel obligated to get off at the ports because they are places youve never been before? Or would you feel ok staying onboard? I tried explaining to someone that you can always stay onboard if that's what you choose. He wants someday to go on a 7night cruise and never get off the ship.

I do kind of feel obligated to at least get off and step foot on each new port. But with that said, I am really looking forward to booking a trans-atlantic trip soon so I can just cruise for several days and not worry about getting off anywhere. I would be very happy to just stay onboard. I love the sea days.

My husband and I barely got off the ship on the11/7/01 7 night.
We went on a 2 hour island van tour in St. Martin, and shopped at the small mall right near the dock in St. Thomas for 30 minutes.
We went to St. Thomas on our honeymoon for 10 days, so we really saw everything there was to see. It was very hot, so we just stayed on the ship and took advantage of all the empty pool chairs. We are going again this year on the 9/21 7 day and will probably do even less. The first time, we couldn't dock at Castaway Cay, so even that was a day at sea. Maybe we'll get off there this time. We get off just long enough to say we were set foot on the Islands, look around briefly and head back to the boat - it's marvelous to be there without the crowds! Especially the pool area!

We did a 5 day Radisson Diamond a few years back. I was unimpressed with St. Maarten so came back to the ship early. I took my book up to the pool and sat there for hours; it was pure bliss to this mommy of a then 4 year old! I had such a nice day that I did it again when we hit St. Barths (which is beautiful, btw). I took a 2 hour walk around the town and then went back to "my" spot. Truthfully, it was this experience that has made me want to cruise again...usually when we vacation, I'm beat after the trip. The cruise was the most relaxing trip we've ever taken.

I agree with that about St. Maarten. It was so depressing! No wonder we bought a small bottle of rum there and went directly back to the ship!!

On the 7day cruise we just went on (june 29th magic) Mom had planned an excursion on one island (st. Maarten), but then it was up to me and my friends if we wanted to get off at St. Thomas. We got up early and were off the ship, shopped, and were back by 12:30 pm, perfect timing for chicken fingers and ice cream!! I didn't need to spend all day out on the island, besides it was REALLY hot on St. Thomas.
On our recent 7-day Eastern Cruise, DH & I had the entire Quiet Cove pool and deck area to ourselves between 11 am and noon on the day we were on St. Maarten. What bliss! It was sooo relaxing! I'd be content to spend the whole cruise on the ship, and enjoy the peace and quiet.
