I'm leaving for the weekend and might miss the BIG EVENT so I wanted to congratulate you Dave in advance! The time you spend researching the cruise, the ports, cocoa beach area, etc is a big asset to the boards! It's so nice that your hobby benefits so many others.

Although I've run up 4000 posts on my odometer, there are <b><i>LOTS</i></b> of great people here who are so happy to help others. And so many people who have different areas of speciality to contribute. It's a great board and its participants are fantastic! I'd start naming names of some of my favorite contributors, but I'd be sure to leave out several deserving participants.

And DAVE is a perfect example of the best of the best!Well... <i><b>thank you</b>, RellingTwin</i>. That is very high praise given the many fine people on this board.

The dates for Ash Wednesday and Easter are available at the U.S. Naval Observatory web site...

http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/easter.html

Easter 2004 is April 11.

WOW Thanks Dave!!!!!

Do they have a site like that for allthe Holidays?

Dave_from_Marietta
07-21-2002, 11:02 PM
Not all the holidays, no. The reason the U.S. Naval Observatory calculates these dates is that the date is based on the calendar and astronomical observations.

More or less... Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox. And Ash Wednesday is 42 days before that. But there are a bunch of small-print conditions that can adjust the date of Easter. It's pretty complex and if you want to know all about that, you can find an explanation at their site.

As for other holidays... Mother's Day is the second Sunday of May, Father's Day is the third Sunday of June, Election Day is the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November. Thanksgiving is the <b><i>4th</i></b> Thursday (not the <b><i>last</i></b> Thursday) of November.
