View Full Version : Garden Grocer or WeGoShop?

I want to order diapers, wipes, baby wash, lotion, mouthwash, etc. for our 9 day stay. We used Garden Grocer in 2008 for water, Gatorade, and snacks, but never for baby products. Which service has better prices, Garden Grocer or WeGoShop? Where do you usually order your baby products?

TIA :flower3:

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ( I could go on) We go shop. The way that they work is that you send them to the store that you want them to go to. I send them to Walmart, because I am familiar with them and they seem to be better priced over all. You email them a detailed list of what you want and they go get it. Then, they deliver it all to your room. ALL you pay is the price of the items, plus a surcharge (price depends on the total amount of your bill and it is pretty reasonable) and tip!!! You then, schedule a time for them to deliver your stuff. They are WONDERFUL!!! Send them your list and schedule your time early then, just call them when you make it to the hotel and let them know your room information. LOVE THEM!!!!!

I don't know if I was clear. You pay the WALMART price and so as far as I am concerned they are less expensive than garden grocer. They do give you the receipt for your order.

Thanks so much for the response.

Do I pay when the items are delivered? Or will I be able to pay in advance? I like the idea that I can make a list of items from Walmart or Target. While I liked the service from Garden Grocer, they're limited as far as baby products.

You pay when the items are delivered, because they usually go shopping that day and you pay what they actually were charged, plus the service fee, which is really reasonable. I paid in cash, but I don't know if there is another option. They were wonderful. It can get time consuming to make the list before you go because you need to give brands and sizes, but I put things like 1 24 pack of either aquafina or disnea (sp?) water which ever is cheaper. 1- box of store brand fruit and grain bars cherry flavored. They really did a great job. I got everything on my list AND she made it to a 8:00 am in room delivery time on a SATURDAY morning. Needless to say, she got a good tip as she went and bought that stuff that morning while I was sleeping with my family!:cool1:

Head's up!! Call them early because they can get filled up. I think that the operation is pretty small, but I could be wrong.

Grocery total up to $50.00 = $17.00 shop & delivery service fee
Grocery total between $50.00 - $100.00 = $22.00 shop & delivery service fee
Grocery total between $100.00 - $200.00 = $27.00 shop & delivery service fee
Grocery total between $200.00 - $300.00 = $37.00 shop & delivery service fee
Grocery total over $300.00 = 13% of grocery total shop & delivery service fee

I just went to the website to see what the fees are and here is a list. We had one in diapers and we were in the 50-100 range, but we had LOTS of stuff delivered!!!

I would totally pay that much for someone to deliver stuff for me even when I am not on vacation!!

Also, I looked on the Frequently Asked Questions and you can use Credit Cards, but you still pay when the deliver it. Hope this helps!

Yikes! Garden Grocer is free, for orders over $200.... otherwise $12. They may have a limited menu, but the items are waiting when I arrive.

IMHO Garden Grocers, items are over priced and VERY LIMITED. It is less expensive to pay these people to go and get exactly what you want (espically when you have a baby) than it is to take your time and go get it yourself. Espically, if you don't have a car while you are away. I understand that Garden Grocer delivers, but they are getting their delivery fee, by increasing the cost of the items that they are selling you. SO, depending on what you are getting, it may be more cost effective to get what you want, at a lower price and pay the service charge verses paying the increased cost that Garden Grocer offers.

For example:
Garden Grocer prices for the following items Huggies Pull Ups 13.99, Nutri Grain Bars 3.79, 24 pack of Bottled water 7.99 and Soy Milk 4.39

Walmart prices on the same items: Huggies Pull Ups: 9.99, Nutri Grain bars 2.50, Bottled Water 4.99 and Soy Milk 2.89

WITHOUT BUYING THE STORE BRAND the total price difference on just those 4 items is 9.79. So, if you are making a pretty substantial purchase, like we usually do, we go shop is more cost effective for us.

I'm tempted to use wegoshop.
I need suggestions for the timing though.

We arrive Sat mid-day and want to hit the parks asap. Do you suppose they'd agree to come over Sun at 7am?
Are they prompt?

Ok... so I really sound like I am doing a commercial for these people, I promise I am not affilated with them at all and I was just really impressed with the service. I would call Marge (the owner) and ask her if they can do a 7:00am delivery time on a Sunday. I managed an 8:00 or 8:30 I can't remember delivery time on a Saturday. THEY WERE VERY PROMPT FOR ME! I programmed their number into my cell phone so I could call and tell them what our room number was, but you can get it off the website. Totally call her and ask.

I spoke to Marge the other day. She said she can leave items at bell services as long as you don't order alcohol. If you order alcohol, you have to show ID. I'm hoping to have them leave my delivery at Bell Services on our arrival morning.

I know that I am not going to be popular here, but I had a really uncomfortable experience with wegoshop. I paid the $27 delivery fee and then was told that I had to leave a tip. When I did leave 15%, the lady who delivered for me asked me why I didn't give her 20%...I could not believe it! It was very awkward to have her question the tip. which was about $35 or $40...a lot IMO...

Anyway, after all of that, she forgot a few things as well...I ordered for 2 families and she messed up some of the other family's items...no major crisis or anything, but be aware that a TIP is EXPECTED...

We also thought the tip thing was a bit awkward. In fact, it was the only thing that I'd consider any kind of "negative" with her service.

She sat beside me, showed me the receipt, and then the bill, which included the groceries, the delivery charge, and then circled the word "TIP" and said, "Plus tip". It made me feel a bit uncomfortable; it wasn't like I was planning to stiff her on the tip, so it seemed weird that she made such a point of it. I would've felt awful if she'd questioned the amount like she did with cmskok.

Bitsmommy

Questioning the amount of a tip is highly inappropriate and there is no excuse for it. I would have been MAD if that had happened to me!!! However, the only time that a tip was even mentioned was when I said that I would make sure to tip her appropriately if she could make an early morning, Saturday visit.

I agree, that is unacceptable.
A note to be made, Marge did not deliver my items, I believe one of her staff did & my staff representative from WeGoShop did not ask for a tip. I tipped about $10 dollars roughly. :santa::santa::santa:

Yep, they can leave them with bell services, but according to the website there is an automatic tip added to the fee. So, that is up to you. Honestly, I am considering getting that done this time.

so how do I know what prices are on items I would want to order? Like for wegoshop,I'd need to know what I wanted, and list it all out,but how would I know what the local superwalmart would charge for the items? they charge a much higher fee that GG,which I've used in the past-
I like the idea of walmart prices, but they aren't the same everywhere

They have always delivered to my room. When they do that you are presented with the Walmart receipt and a bill. The bill consists of the grocery total and the service fee. I have NEVER been approached with request for tip (as some others have mentioned). If they are dropping the items at bell services, I would assume that you would be required to give them a CC number and they would in turn, leave the items and the bill with the reciept and total for you at bell services with your items. I did read on the website that if you chose to leave your items at bell services you are required to leave a certain percentage tip. Still pretty convient in my opion and I am considering it next time.

With regard to the question regarding the cost of the items. Most Super Walmarts are pretty comparable in price. I didn't not notice a marginal price increase on the items that I purchased from the Orlando Walmart via We Go Shop from the Walmart that I use here at home. My husband just reminded me that I actually mentioned that the water was about $.50 cheaper per 24 pack. Since I have a little man, I basically bought the same stuff that I buy for home or camping trips... water, juice, peanut butter, bananas, soy milk, ect. and the cost was pretty well the same. I hope this helps. I know how very nerve wracking that it can be to ensure that you have the things that you need in your hotel room, when you don't have a car.

To add to this, you don't have to have her use Walmart. You can specify which local store you'd like her to use (ex. Publix, Winn-Dixie, etc.) or Super Target, Walmart, etc. She'll also go to more than one store if you specify that. We just indicated on our order to go wherever our items would be cheapest, and she went to Publix.

We rented a car in August and thought Publix was more expensive than Target.

No need to apologize. We are all here to learn. If he just wants a case of water. It isn't going to be worth your while to use either GG or We go shop because of the delivery fee. But, if you are ordering more than water, which is pretty easy to do, I would call Marge with We Go Shop and set up a time to have some items delivered. I don't know if they have all of their slots filled or not, but it never hurts to call and ask. I usually call about a month in advance because we usually go during free dining and people with toddlers need their stuff! You may also want to see if you can get a case of water via Amazon delivered to the hotel (if all you want is water). Not sure if Amazon carries that, but it would totally be worth it to look and see. Hope this helps!

Yeah.... you can. A lot of people get crackers, ect delivered. It works out as well. Just be careful because depending on the way that it is shipped and the hotel you could incur a charge. I think it has to be shipped USPS to avoid a charge. I will also ship boxes of food or necessary supplies to myself at the resort. Works well. :dance3:

Bitsmommy .... Thanks for the comments on We Go Shop.

Marge is my sister. I can defiantly tell you she would not stand for the Tip issues that people have raised. We Go Shop provides the unique opportunity to get what you want not what someone provides.

The will shop where you want them to and get what you want them to get. Marge is dedicated to customer service. If you run in to any issues they would get handled.

I run a Disney Tips / News / and Deals Blog. If you read the general consent on the Dis Boards you will see that people love We Go Shop Orlando. Marge will do her best to ensure you Vacation is not adversely effected by your grocery needs.

We just got back from disney and used WeGoShop...LOVE THEM!...I called when we arrived to let them know we got to the resort early and she..i totally am forgetting her name who shopped for me...and she said she was just about to go shopping for me and would be at the resort shortly..Didn't take her long at all. She got EVERYTHING i needed and i think our fee was $22..give or take, but we had a large order..was totally worth every penny. She also called and told me to bring my stroller to take my items up so i wouldn't have to use bell service (saved me a tip for them)...at pofq they don't allow wegoshop to take the items to the room because then the bell service wont get their tips..its a union thing i understand.. But we got snacks, water, diapers, wipes, juice, milk, and many other items.
I will ALWAYS use WeGoShop when we travel! So Worth It.

How much would it cost to take a taxi to head to a local grocery store vs the fee and tip?

hsmamato2
12-18-2009, 09:14 AM
see, this is just me maybe...but we're using the GG service and we rent a car. call me crazy, but I HATE grocery shopping on vacation!!!!!! I did it once, and hated that it took hours of my relaxation time to shop through a store, which is all I seem to do at home. So we order groceries, then we run and grab something if we run out. I mean, for a lrge shopping, it takes hours in the store (with my dh) and costs every bit as much (if not more with buying extra things)
in reality, it actually saves money to order stuff,no impulse buying of stuff that way! I figure it's part of my vacation spending to get it delivered and pay a fee for that.

Oh, they definitely expect a tip on top of the delivery fee. That was made very clear to me (I was going to tip anyway). I tipped about 18%.

The tip they add to the bill if they leave your groceries with Bell Services is 10%. That seems to indicate that the standard gratuity that is expected is 10%, but apparently if they bring the items to your room 10% is not enough? I might be tempted to have them deliver to Bell Services just to avoid a confrontation over the tip! :rotfl2:

We are in the process of deciding whether or not to order groceries for our trip in June. DS drinks gallons and gallons of milk, so paying $16 per gallon ($2 per pint at WDW) seems silly. We don't do Dining Plan and there were no concierge villas available for our dates (we did concierge last year), so I am pretty sure we need to order some basics.

We loved Wegoshop too! I prepriced everything we were ordering at our local Walmart here in Michigan (don't usually buy our groceries there) and the Florida Walmart ended up being within $5. I thought that was great!!

I was a bit confused about the tip thing too. I didn't see the option on our preorder to leave a tip there or I would have just done it that way.

Another possible option that I am looking into for my trip in May is to buy all of my non-refrigerated items and ship them directly to the resort. Even though we are driving, I do not want to worry about the space it would take to pack in the car. Then I can either stop on my way in for the refrigerated items or use one of the suggested suppliers. I am still looking into this as I will need to take into consideration any shipping charges.

I WOULD NOT wait to call her when you get there. I would call her AT LEAST a month prior to leaving and schedule a time. Also, you want to have access to email to create a shopping list for them. That is better done at your house so you can look at the times that you already have al home to get size, ect. I am a big planner, I call at month ahead of time. I don't know how late they deliver, as I usually request an early morning delivery and they usually accomidate me just fine. Ha ve a great trip!

This does sound like a great idea in theory, but the price for it does seem pretty steep. Let's say you order $50- $100 worth of items at Target; they charge you $22 plus expect (demand? automatically charge?) a 10% ($5-$10) tip? That's a 32%-64% surcharge on your total Target bill!

I would think that for less than that, you could rent a car for one day from MCO to Dolphin and pick it all up yourself, or you could take a taxi, either one taking no more than a half-hour to an hour of your time. The demanding of the tip alone would totally turn me off!

But, on the other hand, I guess it is a convenience and even with their charge it is way cheaper than paying $3 per bottle of water in the parks. Is that what I'm missing?

Has anyone used Wegoshop for beer and wine? I know you can buy it at grocery stores down there (unlike NJ), but would I be better off going to Liquor Store? Does anyone know of any liquor stores near Disney?

And yes DH and I are both winos!!!!!! OK, maybe just a little. :rolleyes1

You may want to check out the website if you only order 50 worth of groceries the shopping fee is less. The fee is based on the total cost of items you ordered. It is a give and take. Yes, you do pay a little more, but you have the items that you want/need and they cost WAY less than they would if you were to buy them at disney. In addition, with baggage costs and shipping cost increasing, it is not a bad deal to get the items purchased for you to make sure that they arrive safely in one piece.
