I might do som kind of starter this year too, but not quite sure what yet.

What is everyone else having for their christmas dinner this year?

Turkey and all the trimmings for us too, you can't beat it. We probably won't have a starter, and we may have jelly & ice-cream for dessert as everyone in my house (except me) doesn't like mince pies, Christmas pudding or Christmas cake :santa:

:sad2::sad2::sad2: OMG! What is a chrimbo bimbo to do! Shocking! Are you sure they're your family?

We have smoked salmon on bilinis with creme fraiche/horseradish dressing. A little bit of bubbly goes nice with this;)

Turkey with all the traditional trimmings, all home made. It has to be king edwards spuds. We like a light red wine with our Christmas dinner as most of us (apart from DH) like the dark meat with it's stronger flavour:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

After the washing up we have Christmas pudding and mince pies with cream and custard  for DH. We usually have a pavlova for the girls as they're not keen on pud and pies.

Yum! I'm looking forward to it already.

Some fab sounding menus.

Starter - Prawn Cocktail
Main - Turkey with stuffing, Roast and mashed tatties, brussels, carrots & neep (turnip) mashed, parsnips, pigs in blankets and lots of gravy
Sweet - Trifle and Christmas Pudding

We used to have Scotch Broth for starter but was too heavy as everyone used to have too many rolls or bread with the soup.

Of course all washed down with lots of different booze but I do like rose wine with my main meal.

Phew, some fantastic sounding feasts for Christmas Dinner!

We don't have a starter at ours, just a main meal. It's usually an option of turkey crown, lamb or pork alongside all the usual trimmings. I can't wait for my sausages in blankets :goodvibes

We then have an option of chocolate gateaux or trifle, all depends what we fancy! :)

No starters in our house - the kids would never eat the main course if we did. :rotfl:Turkey crown topped with bacon, sausagemeat stuffing, roasties, plenty of veg, yorkshire puddings and loads of gravy. I don't eat the meat but will eat everything else. For pudding we usually have a few choices as nobody likes Christmas pudding. Banoffee pie for DH, something lemony for me and something with chocolate for the kids.

I'm cooking the dinner again this year, I have more or less decided on:

Starter: not sure I will bother

Dinner: Roast Turkey, roast pork with extra crackling, roast potatoes, carrots, bacon wrapped parsnips, brussels with crispy pancetta, peas & broccoli, pigs in blankets, sausagemeat stuffing & yorkshires (for my little niece)

Dessert will either be homemade yule log or chocolate roulade

I don't want her there, but i want my brother there. We have never had Christmas dinner without him.

Alot of things are too much for my mum at the moment, but she loves her family Christmas dinners and this year my Brother won't be there and shes upset about it. But the only way my Brother would have dinner with us if my mum allowed the SIL's mum to have dinner with us and that is too much for my mum to take on at the moment.

Oh can I join in? These sound great!!

We used to always have turkey, but for the last 2 years we have shoved tradition and we are now having beef Wellington, from our favourite local farm shop!

We have Christmas Dinner in the evening at our house, my parents refuse to feed the whole of our family for two meals. Well we usually have around 13 or 14 of us (which is almost our entire extended family), which might get even bigger this year! :scared:

For the last few years we have had lunch at my other half's family, just a simple soup, and since both families get on, it all works out rather nicely. Usually a scrummy french onion soup (no cheese on mine!)

For dinner we will have:
To start: Soup or pate and toast
Main: Beef Wellington, roast potatoes, carrots, brussell sprouts (which have to avoid my sister and uncle), cauliflower, gravy... all that good stuff! We also have nut roast kind of things for the two veggies.
Desert: Christmas pudding, set alight with brandy, ice cream and something chocolaty for my sister who hates christmas pudding, and home made mince pies (which me and my other half always make, it's been our job for 5 years now!:lovestruc)

It makes me feel all festive just talking about it!

We are serving carrot and coriander soup for starter. For main, turkey, roast potato, mashed potato, fresh veg (sprouts, roast parsnip, carrots, peas, cauliflower cheese), stuffing, sausage wrapped in bacon and cranberry sauce. For desert christmas pudding (made by the MIL) with brandy or rum custard or a diabetic desert for my dad and SIL who doesn't like christmas pud! Then for later christmas cake (with Wensleydale cheese - a Yorkshire tradition!!) or mince pies, both thanks to my mum. Oh and it all washed down with Vuerve Cliquoit champagne.

Since my sister got married they alternate the Christmas with our parents & the In laws (although my sister & BIL prefer my mums cooking:rotfl2:) It was strange at first but it turned out ok. Just enjoy it with your mum, dad, Kyra. At least this way it won't be spoiled by the future in law:thumbsup2

Starter = none (if I am spending hours in the kitchen on Xmas day instead of playing with the kids then I want empty plates :rotfl2:)
Main = Turkey, Pork & Gammon with all the usual trimming + yorkshires for the kids (or I will never hear the end of it)

It was your Christmas Pudding Pavlova I was getting quite excited about, is it your own recipe or from a recipe online? Would love to give it a try.

It was something I tried a few years back because everyone was saying they only wanted a little Christmas Pudding (the usual comment "just to say I have had some" kept cropping up) -

I made it up as I went along but it went down very well. I started on Xmas Eve by soaking some orange segments in Cointreau ;) After Christmas dinner I topped individual size meringue nests with a little warm pudding - popped the orange segments on top and then served it with some pouring cream (double is best) with more Cointreau in it (as much or as little to your own taste really).

I love anything meringue based so I was pleased I incorporated it into our Christmas Menu :thumbsup2

The Christmas Bombe is now in the freezer :) We are going to try it tomorrow evening when my sister is here to vet it with us. The inside of it includes: apricots, cherries, currants, pistachio nuts, white chocolate, double cream and Cointreau (I see a pattern here :rotfl2:) I just hope it tastes as nice as it looks.

Loving the sound of your desserts Mrs Pegasus :thumbsup2

We don't have a starter for Christmas dinner - the first thing I ever eat on christmas Day is a piece of turkey - yum!

We will be having turkey, lush gammon (that's what the kids call it but, basically, it's Sainsbury's Taste the Difference smoked gammon), extra crispy roast potatoes (the one day of the year I cook my potatoes with fat instead of Fry Light :rotfl:), pigs in blankets, sausagemeat stuffing (plus extra stuffing balls for Nat to eat on Boxing day ;)), brussels, carrots, parsnips and yourkie puds for the kids (and me).

For pud, we are having Madagascan Vanilla and Chocolate Cheesecake (for me, Sain and Gary) and trifle (Rea and Daniel). Like so many others, we don't like Christmas cake or pud. The kids and Gary have mince pies but we save them for later in the evening when we're opening our pressies :thumbsup2

Oh, I'm getting all excited now - can't wait for my Christmas dinner.

Does anyone else not have turkey (or anything else that you have for Christmas) during the rest of the year. We only ever eat turkey in our house at Christmas - not because we don't like it but because, for me, it makes it that bit more special :) Am I weird???

My mom and I do it between us, she usually prepares the veggies at home and brings them with her, then I throw the turkey in the oven, this year I am slow cookering some gammon too so that will go in as soon as we get up.

Maybe we spend an hour actually in the kitchen dishing up and carving etc. We have it down to a fine art now!

Can I just ask ho much time do you guys spend in the kitchen every xmas ?? We have a big meal xmas eve so all the time on xmas day is spent together we still have turkey but its left vers from xmas eve
Am I the only weirdo that doesnt really cook on xmas day??:confused3

We tend to go to my Mums on Xmas Eve as she puts a bit of a spread on for all her kids and Grandkids. It also gives us the chance to exchange gifts so we don't have to go driving around on Xmas Day. (I have always hated the thought of giving the kids loads of presents in the morning then taking them out in the afternoon for hours so they don't get a chance to play with them.)

When we get back xmas eve me and DW will prep most of the veggies so it's less to do the next day. When all is said and done though we probably only spend about the same amount of time as we would for a normal Sunday dinner.

Personally not cooking on a xmas day sounds like a fantastic idea to me - unfortunately we have family around this year so I don't think we will get away with not doing it.

I would say about an hour, as the turkey gets cooked on Xmas eve & the veggies get prepared then too. All that is done on Xmas day is cook the pork & veggies

I don't spend that long in the kitchen. Admittedly I'm only cooking for the 4 of us but I cheat whenever I can and am not embarrassed to us frozen roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings, we have a turkey breast joint as we seldom eat the dark meat and I hate the smell of the cold carcass. I do have fresh veg but I've even bought that ready prepared some years.

At the end of the day as long as the family enjoy the meal and I enjoy the day I don't care how many corners I cut.

I spend as little as time possible in the kitchen on Christmas Day. I like to prepare all my veggies and anything that can be prepared on Christmas Eve afternoon. Still cook my turkey on Christmas Day though. Hubbie usually helps as for some weird reason he seems to enjoy peeling and cutting up veggies.:confused3

i buy lots of stuff ready prepared ( life's too short to prepare sprouts ! ) and my brother cooks so we spent time in and out of the kitchen all helping ( or hindering )
