Would you pay a premium point per night price for a guaranteed Boardwalk view? If so, how many points do you think would be reasonable?

No, I would not pay a premium. We always get standard view and we love it. One time we were on the fifth floor overlooking the entance and I just sat on the balcony, smoking a cigar, drinking Crown Royal and being mesmerized by all the comings and goings of people, cars, shuttles. It was quite fun, actually.

No. Don't think a 3-tier view structure would work out, especially if the standard view was then in jeopardy of being phased out. Also, this might mean that Boardwalk views may not be sold out, which may create water views being upgraded to BW view in order to fill rooms. Now those paying the premium for BW view would be upset that non-premiums are being upgraded.
Personally, I don't find myself lounging off the balcony for any more than 5 minutes a day no matter what view I have.

Another vote in the "no" column. I like the point structure the way it is and hope that it doesn't change.

Interesting question! And I don't have an answer. All of the previous posts make a lot of sense.
Part of me says YES! But most of me says NO!
I thikn I might be willing to part with a point or two per night to GUARANTEE a BW view, knowing that I might get one with the luck of the draw anyway. But not on every trip.

I would like to see a program where you could guarantee a BW view with extra points. We have little children and both grandmas come with us. We spend quite a bit of time in the room for naps and to just relax. The grandmothers both wake up early and love to have their coffee on the balconey over the BW. For me, I would pay an extra 5 points per night for that view.

For me, the preferred view should be a boardwalk view and all other views are standard. I always get a standard view because I will not pay more points to look at the canal or quiet pool.

I agree with lampy. I would like to see preferred be a boardwalk view, and everything else be standard. I wonder how many people book a preferred view and hope for a canal or pool view instead of the boardwalk? I'm sure some people do, but most seem to want the boardwalk view, at least based on the posts I've read. I would love a boardwalk view some day, but am hesitant to spend that many points knowing that my chances of a BW view are pretty slim. If I knew I would get a BW view, I wouldn't mind parting with the points once in a while.

DVC was approached before about this - the answer was no - they have enough problems with 2 tables for BWV they can't handle a third and they say that they would NEVER do this again.

joepoe -
You sound like my DH! He started sitting out on the balcony with his Crown Royal and a cigar back in 2000. We bought into DVC during that trip because he won't stay in a room without a balcony anymore. He loves to watch the comings & goings down at the entrance so we've only stayed a standard room while at BWV. We stayed down at the YC for a couple of days last December & had a room that overlooked the lake. He thought it was okay, but enjoyed the BWV standard view much better (more activity to watch). I would spend extra points (maybe 5 a night) if I could guarantee a boardwalk view though. DH could sit there and watch the people on the boardwalk along with the boat traffic.

I like to stretch my points using the standard view rooms. I also like to sit out on the patio and watch the coming and going. I am trying a perfered view 1 bedroom this August though! Will see if it is worth the difference.

Another 'no' vote.....I'd rather have the points than a view.
We always try to get a Standard view.....got the last day of our 11 night trip for next June reserved today. We requested a 'view of the bus stop.' Had a 'view of the bus stop' this past year, and the location turned out to be great. We were able to see the EPCOT fireworks and the real bonus is that we went right out the side door to the sidewalk that heads directly over to the bus stop.....a short walk to the bus stop, Community Hall, and the quite pool. The CM was rather entertained by this request but agreed to go ahead and record it! :p
I also would like to see the preferred view rooms be only the boardwalk view, but I doubt that would ever happen. We have been very lucky and have gotten a boardwalk view every time but once when we had a preferred view room and the boardwalk view is wonderful!

hi: another no vote here; we prefer the standard view. after the first couple of times with preferred view and bw view requests (one of which was at the 11 month mark) and only getting pool or canal views, we opted for stretching the points.

Another no.
Buzz,
I never thought to request a certain standard view! We had a 1BR SV overlooking the front entrance and it was entertaining to watch the comings and goings. We watched a perplexed Dad trying to load the trunk with obviously more luggage than they brought.LOL We liked it much better than our PV 1BR BW view. Which we found very noisy at 2AM club closing.

Another no vote. We tried preferred before .. ended up with the quiet pool, clown pool and swan/dolphin view. Then we started reserving standard view..like these views better, and even get bonus of seeing illuminations high fireworks if you're in your room at that time. Just not worth the point difference to us.

We've always been lucky and got the Boardwalk view that we requested.....but this year we're going for a standard view and stretching our holiday out a bit! I wouldn't pay any more points for a Boardwalk view, but if I booked a preferred view room and ended up overlooking the canal I'd be disappointed!

Nope - my daughter and hubby stayed over the boardwalk once and said it was very noisey late at night on a weekend. With that said, I prefer to just take it all in with a walk around the BWV.

A rare Yes vote here.
We love the boardwalk view. Would be willing to pay a few more points (3-5) to guarantee it. The other preferred views of the pool, etc. are not that much better, if at all, than the standard views.

Another YES vote here. Remember the total points at a resort must stay the same. So if DVC would raise the points for a gauranteed boardwalk view they would have to lower the points somewhere else.
Right now it is only 9 points for a standard view studio at BWV for about 5 months out of the year. That's only one point more than OKW. Imagine if they lower that to 7 points a night. You could then get a studio at BWV for less points than OKW for about 5 months out of the year. That certainly would make the 11 month home resort advantage at BWV very attractive.
