We were lucky enough to cruise on the June 22 Magic Western and we had a blast! What a wonderful time, wonderful people and wonderful memories.

During the cruise we mailed several postcards from Castaway Cay. They were mailed on June 28 and they just arrived in Delaware yesterday, July 18.

I just wanted to give you an idea of how long it might take to actually get them so you don't worry that they were lost at sea (or worse).

you got yours back faster than we did. It took about two and a half months for all my postcards mailed at CC to reach their final destination.

Lucky you, ours haven't arrived yet. But my pictures aren't back from Fuji yet either. So the scrap book will never be finished.

Take care,

Frank (on the Cruise Director's Staff) told us that everything in the Bahamas and Caribbean (and I suspect Central America too) runs at a leisurely pace. You ask for something and they might say MAŅANA which means TOMORROW. Sure they will do it, in their own sweet time. They do not understand the American urgency to do things now.

That attitude is part of what makes these vacations so relaxing. But it can be surprising  or frustrating. The mail is no exception. It gets moved when it gets moved.

Frank said that sometimes the Bahamian postal worker does not come to Castaway Cay even though they know what days the ships will be there. Sometimes they come late, sometimes they leave early, whatever they choose. On our cruise they left early and I was so frustrated. Frank volunteered to mail my cards the next time he was at Castaway Cay and the postal worker was there. What a guy!

We mailed postcards from Castaway Cay on July 12th and haven't received them yet. Not surprising (based on the info above).

However, you might be interested to know that postcards we sent from HELL, Grand Cayman Island, were received within 1 week. I guess their boss is a little stricter. (LOL)

Frank is right, JLSE50. We stayed in Freeport for 3 days (one of those famous time-share deals!) and a Bahamian minute can be anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. The pace is extremely relaxing unless you're someone who's used to getting everything fast - then it can be very frustrating. We had a hard time adjusting because our way of life is so different. My DH went up to a small snack bar for a hamburger and the fellow behind the bar was cooking each one individually and serving it before he took another order....talk about laid back! So it doesn't surprise me that the mail is as slow as it is. :sunny: It's great for a vacation but I'm not sure if I could adjust to that lifestyle. Might be nice to give it a try, though. :D

My Mother, in the Pittsburgh area, received her postcard from Castaway Cay yesterday, July 19 and my MIL, in Southern New Jersey just received her card mailed from Cozumel yesterday. They are all hitting right around the same time.

Good Luck to all and "Speedy Delivery."

I am a Girl Scout leader and I always mail postcards to my 'girls' when I go on vacation. On our first cruise at Castaway Cay I mailed them and it took a couple months for them to get the cards.

Last year, on our second cruise, I mailed postcards from Disney World before we got on the cruise.

This year we are going on the Western Cruise and I am going to mail post cards from Key West. They should get them much quicker (I hope).

The post cards we mailed from Key West arrived just a few days after we got home, not too bad. This is probably your best bet to get them soon.

Howard, we received our post card on 7/19 when we came home from Syracuse Sightseeing with Caroline and Mike. Thanks for the post card.
