What are my chances of getting a free upgrade? I am going August 10-14. Staying in a standard room at BC. First visit to Disney. My DH and 2 DD's can't wait to get there! Maybee I should;)

I have been going to Disney every other yr since my son was 2, now for the past 5 yrs I go every yr. and I have never gotten and upgrade I guess it is all in the luck of the draw or the cast member who helps you. Either way your first time, you are going to have a great time and hopefully many more times to follow.:bounce: :Pinkbounc :)

I have also hoped for an upgrade upon arrival. So far I have not recieved one. We always go during value season, as well, which are the slowest times of the year.
Has anybody else had any luck getting free upgrades?

You never really know with these things I have only gotten one upgrade and I have been every summer for the last 15 years. If you ask nicely at check in they may have something available and you might get it. now maater whaat I am sure you will have a great time. The other tip I can give you is there are standard rooms aat the BC the are smaller and have no balconey and double beds and no day bed. If the room size matters make sure you request these things before you leave.

The closest thing to an upgrade we received was at the Contemporary Wing - from a standard to a garden. And, it was the week after Thanksgiving, one of the slowest times of all. I wouldn't go there thinking you will get an upgrade, although some people have.

We have lucked up twice. Once at the Cont. it was in Sept and we had booked a Tower Room for $179 a night; this was in '99. we were upgraded to Club.

At the Poly, July '99 had booked garden and were upgraded to lagoon.

We did not ask or suggest an upgrade they were just given!

I got upgraded one time at the YC. Had a standard room and asked for a lagoon view and got it. I think it depends on season, and who is behind the desk. That was over the 4th of July. Last time I asked at the Poly in August and she said, no, we are full. So, you take what you get and hope you are not disappointed. But I have to say, after it works once, you are still sort of disappointed the next time when it doesn't work.

Well, I guess we are just lucky then. We were upgraded the one time we stayed at WL, and have been upgraded 5 of 7 stays at the YC. Last year, we were upgraded from standard to concierge!
It really depends on the CM you get, (the younger the better!), and the time of day you check in, and availability. I do know that if there is anything to upgrade you to, the YC will upgrade. Probably the BC too! Good luck!:):D:)

We're staying at the Poly in Aug. and right now just have your basic standard room. I had booked this trip through a travel agent. Does anyone know if at check in you can upgrade to concierge if we decided too. The service sounds really nice but it's the $$$. I was wondering if a better deal can be made at check-in rather than calling my travel agent and having her do it when it would probably be at full price.
Thanks!

Free upgrades are completely luck of the draw IMHO. We always book the least expensive room and just put in a medical request for a non-smoking room due to my husbands asthma and then take it from there. Sometimes we have been upgraded and sometimes not. At the AKL last year we booked Pool View rooms and got Pool View rooms.

I also reconmend that if the view is important then book the more expensive view upfront.

May 11, 1998, my husband and I were upgraded from the Contemp Garden Wing room to the 14th floor concierge. I had faxed the resort 2-3 days previous to check-in and requested a lake view from the Garden Wing room we had booked for $154, mentioning that we were coming down (sans children) to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We got to the front desk and I asked the CM if he had gotten our fax request. He had a big grin on his face and nodded "yes". Then he sprung it on us that we were being upgraded to the 14 th floor. We got to the room and found a red rose, bottle of champaigne and a card from the staff of the resort in our room. I honestly was only hoping for a view of Bay Lake---and boy, did I sure get it ! lol
We've gone to Disney at least a dozen times over the years and this is the only time this we've ever gotten lucky.

Way to go, Maria. You just never know. I am happy for those that get upgrades like that, it is part of the disney magic.

Went to WL last month for our first wedding anniversary and got upgraded from standard view to Courtyard with King bed!! It was a fabulous view and not one mention was made at check in which made the suprise of the view fom the room even nicer.
