We're going to Disney! And 4 years earlier than originally planned! How does that happen, you might ask? Well, thanks to our lovely federal government, I've received a grant. $4000 per year, which means I have more financial aid than I need, so I'm getting more than $2000 back.
This grant is called the TEACH grant. I've agreed to teach at a "low-income" school in a "high need field" for four years within 8 years of graduation. Now, I was a little skeptical at first, but after looking into it, there are many schools in my area that are considered low income, so I agreed to it!
Our original plan was to go in May 2014 when I graduated from grad school. We were going to stay in a condo offsite, go for 15 days, rent a car, all the bells and whistles. I've slowly been cutting back though. Our plan now is to stay at All Star Music for 12 days and use Disney transportation.
I've been to Disney three times before, twice as a child at ages 13 months and 2 1/2. The last trip was in February 2007 when my school's wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, marching band, orchestra/string ensemble and Bel Canto singers all performed. It was quite the extravaganza. You can read all about it here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1766349).
This trip should be more successful because we have more time, have a plan of attack, less people to keep track of and have a better idea of what to expect. With that I'll leave you with a picture of my best friends and I from the last trip.

THE CAST

Me: Hi, I'm Gretchen!:wave2: I'm 18 years old and a freshman at SUNY Geneseo (aka the public Ivy of New York State). I will be 19 by the time the trip comes. I'm a speech pathology major who also enjoys psychology and math. I play the flute. Oh, and I'm OBSESSED with Disney! My favorite character is Belle.

Props to my roommate, Emily, for taking this picture. (She's never been to Disney. She thinks it "would be a strange place.":scared1:)

Mom: Debbie, early 50's, works as a day aide in a group home (aka she runs lots of med appointments and does lots of paperwork). Not quite as much of a Disney fan as I am, but she's going along with it and letting me plan everything! How many 18 year olds can say that?! Here's a pic of the two of us from last vacation.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9kccZjAp_Y4/SwjEidX7Z-I/AAAAAAAAADc/ya1eOpPplII/s400/8216_100551399963520_100000259810305_12176_2393502 _n.jpg

Other people not going on the trip, but I may be talking about:

Brother: Ian, 14 years old. Unfortunately, as much as he would love Disney he simply can't go with us. He is developmentally disabled and it would be too challenging and draining for all of us at this time. He currently lives in a group home. He loves Disney movies/Disney Channel (JONAS, Hannah Montana, Sonny with a Chance and Wizards of Waverly Place rank high on his list) and knows all of the songs at WDW (Wishes, Spectro, Fantasmic! and IllumiNations-at "Epicot").

Grandma Olly- She will be watching our pets while we're gone. Thanks grandma!

Pets: Dryfuss (Golden retriever-St. Bernard mix, 9 years old) and Miss Kitty (gray & white longhair, 2 years old). We love them both and adopted them through local shelters. We've had Dryfie for 8 years and Miss Kitty since June.

It all happened on Friday the 13th- a day generally regarded as bad, but was oh-so-good for us! First of all, I registered that morning (which is a nightmare-is it like that at all schools?) and got all the classes I wanted! That afternoon I went to work. At 4:15, everyone else leaves for the day and I man the phones until 5pm. I was going to do work that day, really I was! But I got an e-mail saying I had received the TEACH grant and because of that they had to lower my student loan. Great! I went into our student accounts system to check that out and low and behold, I was getting gobs of money back! Being the OCD Disney nut that I am, I began to crunch some numbers.
Standard View Studio at Kidani Village (renting points) :$1350
7 Day Base Tickets w/ WPF&M (MouseSavers Discount/Undercover Tourist): $575.90
Food: $730
Flights on Southwest: $318.40
Souvenirs: $300
Extra (Mousekeeping): $8
GRAND TOTAL: $3283

NOT BAD! I'm getting $1600 back plus what I set aside from work study. Mom can come up with about $650. We're all set!

I gleefully called mom and said "What if I told you we could go to Disney this May instead of 4 1/2 years from now?!" I fully expected her to ask me who I killed or what bank I robbed. She was in! Whoo Hoo!:cool1:

I fully attribute my ability to pull this trip together in a matter of days to my nuttiness with planning for the last several years. I booked the hotel the next night, signed up for a fridge swap here on the DIS and knew which restaurants I wanted. I had only 5 days to figure out a plan before I could book my ADRs! I'm pretty satisfied with it, and I got all my ADR times that I wanted.:thumbsup2

May 17th: Arrival day. Eat dinner at the Mara.
May 18th: Magic Kingdom. Crystal Palace 8:05am. Lunch in the room and dinner at Cosmic Ray's. Wishes tonight.
May 19th: Blizzard Beach in the AM and Ohana for dinner at 5pm.
May 20th: Studios. Lunch at Backlot Express, dinner at hotel.
May 21st: Downtown Disney. We will probably take the boat to Port Orleans because we wanted to stay there too. We will most likely go to DisneyQuest, and eat at Earl of Sandwich and Wolfgang Puck Express.
May 22nd: Epcot. Le Cellier at 12:45pm. See IllumiNations
May 23rd: Animal Kingdom. We will bring sandwiches for lunch and have dinner at Flame Tree, since AK is open until 7.
May 24th: Magic Kingdom. Liberty Tree Tavern at 11:30am and dinner at Columbia Harbor House. SpectroMagic & Wishes tonight.
May 25th: Studios. Lunch at 11:05 at 50's Prime Time, and dinner will be sandwiches from the room. Fantasmic! tonight.
May 26th: Boma 9:50am. Typhoon Lagoon in the afternoon-evening.
May 27th: Epcot. See IllumiNations if we haven't already, or if we want to see it again-which we probably will.
May 28th: Last day-our flight departs at 1pm, so we will probably be picked up by ME at 10am.

That's all for now folks. I'll keep posting as I think of things to share!

Just to prove my Disney nuttiness, here's some pics of my dorm room at school.

Those pictures are all of Disney. Some of them are my own, but most of them came from the various picture of the day threads. That is a Disney Princess poster.

There are several creative things I want to learn how to do before we go.
1) I want to make a scrapbook when we come back. It's something I've always wanted to learn!
2) I want to make my own character autograph book and I think I can after reading Utahmama's trip report of '06.
3) I want to learn how to take great pictures! On our last trip we didn't yet have a digital camera, as you can tell from the poor picture quality if you read my trip report. In December '07 we bought a cheap point and shoot. Well I've been reading the photography blog on allears and low and behold, my camera has all these features I never knew about! I'm especially excited about the fireworks setting, because those are often my favorite photos that others take.

Also, I think I've figured out what plans we're using for which parks.
I think RideMax will be our best bet. I've run the RM plans in very small chunks of time to get them ordered exactly the way UG has them (for various days). When I do this, either there is more waiting than if I let RM do its own plan, or not all the attractions fit. They also generally schedule large chunks of free time in the afternoons so we can go back to the hotel, meet characters, or have dinner. I'm pleased with most of the plans so far.

Anyone have any suggestions for Epcot? Right now I'm planning a day for FW and a day for WS, but it might work better do to half of each per day (such as FWW and WS Canada through Japan, then FWE, SSE and WS Mexico through America). Or a few things in FW and then all of WS one day, and the rest of FW the other?

Yay my first subscriber! :cool1: I am definitely a super planner, and I'm hoping it pays off! I'm currently reading your trip report from last May and I'm really enjoying it. I'm also hoping it doesn't rain the whole time we're there :scared1: only because we want to visit the water parks-for the theme parks we will just grab our rain gear and go, because rain seems to drive everyone else away :rotfl:

Woo hoo! Got my first refund today: $1015. That will pay our room deposit, flights and tickets. I'll buy the flights as soon as they are on sale, but I'm holding off on the tickets in the event that the Buy4/Get3 deal is extended-it would cost us only $30 to upgrade to a mod! Here's to hoping!

So today I remembered that there is a whole section on the DIS for renting points/reservations! My mom and I are looking into upgrading to Kidani Village in a standard view studio, which would cost us no more than we are paying for ASMu. I hope this works out!

Yes! We are booked in a standard view studio at Kidani Village thanks to the DIS Rent/Trade board-and we're saving $23 over the All Star AAA Price!

How adorable, right? It added a little pixiedust: to my day! Now I have to go study for part two of my phonetics final which is tomorrow. These next two weeks are going to be crazy! And I can't go home until the 23rd:headache:. Hopefully, they'll go quickly!

Also, today I downloaded "Dancin' (A Catchy Rhythm)" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUvSdh8iVuw), performed in a parade at Disneyland Paris, which is indeed one of the catchiest songs ever! If it doesn't make you wanna dance, I don't know what will!

:cool1: Whoo hoo I just booked our flights! I love Southwest, first of all :) I paid $318.40 for two round trip tickets, plus early-bird check-in on the return flight!:woohoo:

We will be leaving Buffalo at 12:45pm and arriving in Orlando at 3:25pm on May 17th. The last time we went we arrived really late and I definitely don't want to do that again!

We will be leaving Orlando at 1:00pm and arriving in Buffalo at 3:35pm on May 28th. I had been hoping to be able to go to a water park this morning, since for a long time there was a nonstop flight that left at around 6:30. However, we will now be leaving for the airport around 10am.

I chose to do the early bird check in because I a)will probably not have internet access and a printer while there and b) do not want to go to guest services while in the park the day before! I know it doesn't guarantee us A-boarding passes, but it's better than waiting to get to the airport I guess!

And then there's that whole perk about getting 2 free checked bags per person! I'm so excited!

Merry Christmas Everybody!

I've been waiting for my GPA to come out, and although I'm still waiting for one class, I'm pleased overall.

A in statistics
B- in intro psych
B- in my freshman writing seminar about divorce
B+ in phonetics
I'm expecting either a B+ or A- in my communication disorders overview class
My GPA should be around a 3.2 or 3.27, which I'm told is good for a freshman.

We all got some lovely gifts! :santa:

Mom:
-I made her five mix CDs, including one of only Disney music.
-I bought her a "Geneseo Mom" sweatshirt that she's been wanting.

Me:
-A $25 Wegmans gift card (Free grocery money!)
-Season 2 of Everwood (Adorable show!)
-An new flip cell phone (My old one was really old-not even a color screen).
-Fuzzy socks!
-Passporter's Walt Disney World 2010:goodvibes
-An alarm clock

My bosses at work also got me:
-A $25 iTunes gift card, in addition to one I had won the night before
-More fuzzy socks
-A Lindt chocolate snowman
-A $20 gift certificate to the local sub place at school

My brother:
-Pajamas
-Pillowcases (Cars-the movie- and Mickey Mouse. My mom made them).
-Magazines
-Old library books to read
-I bought him the book "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" and "The 20th Century Children's Book Treasury", which has stories like Madeline, Babar, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and Amelia Bedelia.

I'll post pictures later. I'm DVRing the Christmas parade, which I'm excited to watch. However, I don't care for Kelly Ripa as the host. She always seems forced and fake, like she doesn't want to be there. It's Disney! Be happy!

Glad to hear that you and your family had a very Merry Christmas, Gretchen!! :santa: Sorry I've been MIA but it's been a very busy few weeks for me! WTG on the good grades!! :thumbsup2 That's great!! And it sounds like you got some nice presents for Christmas. And I agree with you on Kelly Ripa--she is VERY forced and fake--she gets on my last nerve! But even with her hosting, we really enjoyed the Disney Christmas parade!!

I took some pictures of our Christmas tree:

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9kccZjAp_Y4/SziFwK9U7UI/AAAAAAAAARE/2B4u0FLGVYM/s400/fun%20stuff%20008.JPG

I know this isn't a great picture, but the lights look really cool:
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9kccZjAp_Y4/SziF0PkwM2I/AAAAAAAAARw/eSCZOhQlzfI/s400/fun%20stuff%20014.JPG

Christmas day was pretty uneventful. I read my Passporter and set up my phone and watched some Everwood. I also made chocolate covered oreo balls for my aunt's the next day. My mom had to work 4-10, so my brother and I hung out and kept ourselves entertained.

Saturday we went to my Aunt Caryn's. A lot of my family was there, including my adorable cousins Amber and Gavin (ages 5 & 3). So fun!

This morning I was awoken at 3am by my cat. I've been awake since then so I finished watching the Christmas Parade. My thoughts:

-Still sticking to my thoughts about Kelly Ripa.
-I'm sure the Jonas Brothers were great, but they were impossible to hear over all the screaming.
-Demi Lovato was great as always.
-Celine Dion & Stevie Wonder: Can't go wrong with them!
-Loved all the little girls on the princess float!
-The Yanni voices were good.
-Kris Allen was just okay I thought. However, I also don't watch American Idol, so maybe he was better then.

Some side notes:
-I was looking into the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day so I could save a day on our park admission. Turns out it's cheaper to buy the 7day WPF&M, then to buy the 6 day WPF&M.
-I saw that Disney on Ice will be coming to Buffalo...4 days after I go back to school! :headache:
-Is anyone else disappointed that the 2010 planning DVD is essentially the same one that's been used since 2007?
-I never went to River Country, but here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2344523) are some really eerie picks of what it's become.

I've got all 7 Harry Potter books and all 6 movies, plus The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story, The Lion King, and Aladdin to keep me occupied until January 16th.

I have to take my mom to work in a few hours because I have to take myself to the dentist this afternoon. But tonight I'm going to my friend Caitie's house for a "Christmas Break Reunion". Should be fun!:thumbsup2

Okay first of all I'm totally lovin' your PTR. Great plans, great everything! I get excited just reading your posts :goodvibes Subbing!

I'm 100% jealous you are staying at Kidani Village - you'll have to tell me how those rental point things work....

Jungle Cruise is corny no matter what time of day you ride it

Festival of the Lion King is an awesome show. You will kick yourself for not seeing it

Soarin' is amazing. You will love it. Even if you are afraid of heights. Really, it's amazing. If you can handle Rock N' Roller Coaster, you can handle Soarin'

Finally I found someone else who doesn't watch American Idol *HIGH FIVE*

Love your dorm decoration :thumbsup2

Hi! So nice to see people enjoying this PTR, it makes me feel like I'm not wasting my time writing it!

I see you're staying at the Poly, I'm so jealous of that! The point rental is really easy and cost effective; plus the guy I'm renting from has been very helpful and nice so far.

I'm sure Jungle Cruise will still be corny, but as I was really sick the last time I rode it  I hope maybe I'll enjoy it more this time!

I'm already kicking myself for not seeing FOTLK. All we got to do was Everest, Dinosaur, Primeval Whirl, and the Safari, so I'm definitely looking forward to exploring AK a little more.

I hope I like Soarin'. If it gets to be too much, I'll just close my eyes.

I don't watch much TV, especially not reality TV, but I do watch Dancing with the Stars. AI just isn't my thing.

Thanks! My roommate thought I was a little crazy. Her side was all neutrals and blues, but we complemented each other well. She transferred this semester and I'll miss her a lot.:sad1: Hopefully, I'll get somebody just as cool!

I'll start your PTR tomorrow, looking forward to it!

You're definitely not wasting your time. People are reading... even if they don't always post a "hello"

I see you're staying at the Poly, I'm so jealous of that! The point rental is really easy and cost effective; plus the guy I'm renting from has been very helpful and nice so far.

We can each live through our TR's upon our return so we won't feel so jealous of each other ;) I'm glad to hear that you've found a nice, helpful person for the point rental. I've heard a few horror stories....

I'm sure Jungle Cruise will still be corny, but as I was really sick the last time I rode it  I hope maybe I'll enjoy it more this time!

Sick? That's too bad. Nobody should be sick in Disney!

I'm already kicking myself for not seeing FOTLK. All we got to do was Everest, Dinosaur, Primeval Whirl, and the Safari, so I'm definitely looking forward to exploring AK a little more.

There sure is a lot to see and do. As long as you appreciate animals and nature stuff, you'll have fun! It's one of my fav parks :goodvibes

I hope I like Soarin'. If it gets to be too much, I'll just close my eyes.

That's the spirit!

We're all a bit crazy in our own way. Too bad she's transferred. Does that mean someone else will be moving in?

I'll start your PTR tomorrow, looking forward to it!

Thanks! Hope you enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed yours so far

Hello again everybody! I can't remember if I mentioned it before, but two of my friends are leaving January 11th to go do the college program. Ryan did this past spring as well; he worked at The Seas with Nemo & Friends (sometimes he even got to be Crush in Turtle Talk with Crush-how cool is that?). Anyway, they will both be working at Epcot this spring. Ryan will be working at Innoventions in the "Don't Waste It" Exhibit. Heather will be working at the Electric Umbrella. If you're down there and you see either of them, say "Hi". They're super awesome. They are there definitely until May 14th; Ryan is probably extending and Heather isn't sure yet. I told them they should so we can hang out while I'm there!

Also, I just was on Touringplans.com and they now have water park touring plans! If anyone tries these, let me know how they go!

Happy New Years Eve! Where has the year gone?

Last night several of my friends and I went to see "The Princess and the Frog". Such a cute movie! Great music, great story. My friend Ryan has decided he wants to take over Splash Mountain and remake it with this movie because he hates the "how do you do-fine how are you" song that's currently part of Splash. Then we all went out to eat and I didn't get home until about 1am!

Tonight, my plans aren't very exciting. Some of my friends are going downtown to watch the ball drop. My other friends and I are going to get together and have a Glee Marathon. It should be fun! I hope you all have a safe, fun New Years Eve!

YAY!! Wasn't the Princess and the Frog wonderful?!?! We LOVED it!!

Oooh--a Glee marathon! I LOVE that show! I bought the DVD on Tuesday and stayed up last night until 2:30 a.m. I watched 5 episodes and the Special Features!!

Woah it's been a while since I've updated! New Year's Eve was fun. My friends all had daquiris and such, but since I don't drink I had lots of sparkling grape juice and apple cider :) We watched three episodes of Glee. Then my other friends came over after they were done with the ball drop downtown. We played Catchphrase and chatted before I left.

Since my brother's birthday is the 5th, we celebrated on the 1st since he was home for the weekend. I took lots of pictures from that.

Ian's present from Grandma:
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9kccZjAp_Y4/S0oH-0f17HI/AAAAAAAAAU8/gPOPwfZqHk4/s400/Ian%27s%20Birthday%20001.JPG

It turned out to be snack packs of cookies.

The cake:

Ian getting ready to blow out the candles:

The Birthday Boy:
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9kccZjAp_Y4/S0oIDxun6MI/AAAAAAAAAVg/x0YBqCGbOJ4/s400/Ian%27s%20Birthday%20011.JPG

Mom got him a book, the Hannah Montana backstage pass. It's pretty cool and he LOVES it!

The weekend was pretty uneventful. Tuesday I had a dentist appointment. Not long before I had to leave I stubbed my baby toe really hard. It was bleeding and hurt so badly. As I was driving to the dentist it hurt so much I was nauseous. Then at the dentist I found out I have my first cavity:scared1: All in all, not a great day:sad:

I don't think I'm going to have a roommate this semester. My friends that are getting new roommates have already heard from them. The letters to the new people were mailed out by Friday and I haven't been contacted by anybody. I e-mailed reslife Friday and I'm waiting to hear back from them for sure. At first I was a little disappointed because my room is sort of lonely (I was alone for the last 5 days after my roommate left). However, if I end up with one now I'll be disappointed because I've gotten used to the idea of my own room and no one can replace Emily! My friend Jill across the hall is getting a new roommate, Corinne, and she seems pretty cool, so hopefully we'll find a new friend in her!

This semester I will be taking:
-Human Bio
-Human Bio Lab
-Anatomy & Physiology of Speech Mechanisms
-Language Acquisition
-History of Dance Since 1900
(Forgive me if I've posted that before).

Yesterday my Lang Ack professor sent out an e-mail saying the syllabus and all the handouts & such we would need for the semester are posted online. I downloaded everything to my computer and all in all there's 71 sheets to print out! :faint: I'll wait until I go back on Saturday and use the school printers and my free $30 to print it all. Plus the syllabus says:

1-19 Introduction (Speech, Language & Communication) Assignment: Chapter 1; Video 1. I'm assuming this means we need to have chapter 1 read before class which is fine. However, it also says that the videos won't be available until the 3rd week of the semester. Wish me luck on that one!

I've also been playing around with ADR times, RideMax and Unofficial Guide. I've put the attractions from UG touring plans into RideMax in the order I want them (very tedious) and have been attempting to figure out how much we can get done in certain time frames. I know they aren't exact because I can't use our actual dates yet, but it's a good rough estimate. Can anybody give me estimated times for how long meals take?

Right now the ADRs look like this (and I probably won't change them again)

Tuesday 5-19: Crystal Palace 8:05am (MK Day)
Wednesday 5-20: Ohana 5:00pm (BB AM)
Thursday 5-21: Sci-Fi Dine In 3:05pm (DHS Day)
Friday 5-22: Chef Mickey's 10:00am (DTD Day)
Saturday 5-23: Le Cellier 12:55pm (Epcot Day)
Monday 5-24: Liberty Tree Tavern 11:30am (MK Day)
Tuesday 5-25: 50's Prime Time 11:05am (DHS Day)
Wednesday 5-26: Boma 9:50am (TL PM)
Thursday 5-27: Akershus 8:00am (Epcot Day)

I moved Sci-Fi from Dinner to Lunch because I like the lunch menu better. I moved Le Cellier back an hour so we could finish the FW part of the plan before lunch and not have to backtrack.

That's all for now folks!

The only problem with his birthday is that it's 10 days after Christmas, which kind of makes gifts a bit difficult.

Haha, I've known where I want to eat for years. When I was planning for the longer trip I was also planning Whispering Canyon Cafe, 1900 Park Fare, and Cape May Cafe. I did have a CMC breakfast ADR, but when I scheduled the flights, there wasn't any room for it, as there really isn't time for breakfast on the last day. I took a poll here on the DIS asking which 2 restaurants people would pick out of: Ohana dinner, Boma breakfast, WCC Breakfast, CMC breakfast, and CMC dinner. Ohana and Boma got the most votes (60 & 41), followed by CMC breakfast (26). I disregarded 1900 Park Fare simply because of the price. I debated adding dinner at Sanaa on the first night, but the menu is too exotic for my tastes! And I really only keep playing with times, so I'm satisfied for right now. It's pretty amusing to see my original ADR confirmation #s in the 300s go to the 400s with the new ones!

Tell me about it... my family usually holds off on giving me some of my x-mas gifts and saves them for my b-day, which is so annoying!

I debated adding dinner at Sanaa on the first night, but the menu is too exotic for my tastes!

Oh you should try Sanaa! You don't know what you're missing! I guess if you haven't tried Indian food, than it might seem a bit exotic. But it's so yummy....

It's pretty amusing to see my original ADR confirmation #s in the 300s go to the 400s with the new ones!

I know! I noticed that too! It's weird having the 400s now. Goes to show how many ADRs are being made!

I lied. :rolleyes1 Not intentionally, of course. I had to change around the ADR times again. I realized that the times of both of my DHS ADRs were during Block Party Bash, which we want to see. So 50's Prime Time has been moved back to its original time of 11:05am on the 25th.

Jen, I think you cursed me!! I just had the brilliant idea to add and ADR at Rose & Crown so we can view IllumiNations from there. However, we might have to cancel the Le Cellier reservation because both of those restaurants are fairly expensive. :rotfl2: Oops! Sorry :rolleyes1 I knew the ADRs urge would creep up on you eventually. I voted for Le Cellier only because that's one of my fav places to eat plus Bubba has worked there for the last year. R&C isn't one of my faves, only because my last experience there wasn't the greatest. It depends on what's important to you. Do you want to eat at a very popular restaurant with amazing food or rather a one-of-a-kind dining experience with not so great food (in my opinion). Whatever you decide, I hope it's magical :wizard:

We decided to just stick with Le Cellier. Mom likes the menu there better. Our original plan was to grab a table at Cantina de San Angel and wait for IllumiNations, but it is going to be closed until fall. So we think we'll just grab something from Norway and hang over there instead. Also, today I figured out that I have made 26 ADRs since the 180 day mark. I now have 9. I've changed Le Cellier 6 times-that's the most. The only ones I haven't changed at some point are Crystal Palace, Liberty Tree Tavern, Chef Mickey's, and Ohana.

If you haven't seen these videos yet, go watch them. Right now. They make the parks look miniature and everything seems sped up. It's called tilt-shift photography. And I love the music!

Ooh, I've always wanted to try LeCellier. I can't eat red meat, so I've just not bothered before. I did see on someone's TR (Great Biscuit, I think?) that he ordered the Chocolate Mousse. I expected to see a parfait cup with pudding like stuff in it. Nope! It was the cutest little moose shaped dessert!

Looked like stiff pudding cakes (like they have in Great Britain) put together to look like a moose. For some reason (who knows why?:confused3) I just L-O-V-E moose! The t-shirts "Got Moose?" crack me up. It confounds my DD every time I say it & giggle. :lmao: Anyhoo, maybe you can order that for your dessert while you're there?

I haven't the slightest idea what a stiff pudding cake is :confused3 but the "Chocolate Moose" is chocolate mousse rolled in chocolate crumbs with maple antlers. My mom and I are thinking about that or the maple creme brulee. Both sound good to me!

Ah, now I see why it looked like that! In England, their puddings are boiled & come out sort of like a cake. Like their plum pudding at Christmas. I guess my description was sort of lacking!:rotfl:

Woah, it's been a while since I've updated!

I came back to school on the 16th; classes started on the 19th. My classes seem okay so far, though I've only had a few of them once so far. Anatomy & Physiology seems okay, if a little boring. You know the old Winnie the Pooh and Friends video commercials? My professor sounds like the guy who comments on them.

Dance History should be interesting as well. We're not studying the history of dances, instead it's the history of dance as an art form. We watched a video produced by MGM called "That's Dancing!", produced and hosted by Gene Kelly.

Human Bio Lecture-my professor sounds like Alex Trebek from Jeopardy. Science people have such weird senses of humor. He showed us photos of people with piercings through their cheeks and shins, and babies with tails. Very disturbing.

I added Art History-Renaissance through the Rococo the day I came back-5 of my friends are in it also. The professor took attendance-it's a 150 person lecture. :headache: I think she did it to see who didn't show up so she could remove them from the class if other people wanted to get in. We watched a movie/cartoon on the building of Notre Dame. I want to know where they found the voices for the cartoon people-they were hysterical. My friends and I couldn't look at each other or we would burst out laughing. The best part? Everything we have to read is on WIKIPEDIA?! Isn't that the bane of all teachers?

Human Bio Lab-I'm in a group with another freshman girl and a junior guy. His comment? "Great, I'm with two freshmen." My friends' response when I told them about it? "Why did he wait until junior year to take a science core?"

Language Acquisition-I found out the College Union printer doesn't charge me to print there. So I printed out many, many things over the past week and still have my $30.:goodvibes I read the chapter, then found out we didn't have to until after he teaches it. :lmao: During spring break I also have to find a cousin between the ages of 3-6 and collect a language sample from them, then analyze it. :scared1:

I don't have a roommate. :sad1: But Corinne across the hall is nice, and her friend Alina is in my comm disorders classes.

I went to a Candlelight Vigil for Haiti last night, and met some new girls there that live in my hall. I watched Twilight with them and we had a great time making fun of it. Don't get me wrong. I started reading the books the summer they came out. Just picked it up at the library and thought it looked interesting. Then it became this big phenomenon. The movie is really bad, but I do own it. New Moon the movie was better than Twilight, solely because Taylor Lautner takes off his shirt. Still, it's pretty bad.

Speaking of books, I saw a trailer awhile ago for "The Last Song", starring Miley Cyrus, written by Nicholas Sparks. I picked it up from the library yesterday and read the whole thing in about 5 hours. It was awesome. I even cried a little. The movie looks good, and it comes out on my birthday:yay: Click here if you want to watch the trailer The Last Song Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joCwQ2pjfjw)

I'm also applying to be an RA for next year. I have no idea who I'll be living with at this point, so that would be a good starting point! If I'm in a corridor style hall like I am now, I'll have my own room. If I'm in a suite style, I get my own bedroom, and then can choose who I want to live with me in the other rooms, or I can let reslife pick.

This semester I'm joining Flute Choir, GODA, and NSSLHA.
-Flute Choir:Pretty self explanatory
-GODA: Geneseo Organization for Deaf Awareness. They learn sign language and then perform it to songs at the end of the semester.
-NSSLHA: National Student Speech, Language, and Hearing Association. Basically, it's the student Speech Path/Audiology Club.
I will also continue with my work study job, and lobby hosting before tours, so I can apply to be a tour guide for next year as well.
This semester will definitely be busy!

I think I'm done rambling now! Hope everyone's January is going well-I can't believe it's over in a week!

I'm tired just thinking about how long this week has been-and it's only the first full one :faint:

Of course I still have time to plan for Disney, though there isn't much left for me to plan! I played around with RideMax for similar hours today, but I can't wait for May dates to come out (in mid-March!)

Hi Gretchen! It seems like I keep finding PTRs for the month of May. It looks like there may be more DISers there than CMs. :lmao:

What a great thing about the TEACH program. :yay: This is my 17th year of teaching and I love it. Being in speech path., you should not have any trouble finding a job. I know, here, around home, they are hard to find. Good luck with the classes this semester. :thumbsup2

I too have seen many PTRs for May-who knew it was such a popular month!?

Part of why I chose speech pathology is because I know it's easy to find a job. I originally wanted to teach elementary education, but it's such a popular choice that it's difficult to get a job. My other option was spanish, but I can't roll my r's.:sad1:

There are 27 states/territories as of '09-'10 that need some form of speech pathology.

They include:
Alabama
Connecticut
Delaware
D.C.
Florida
Illinois
Kansas
Louisiana
Massachusetts
Michigan
Minnesota
Montana
Nebraska
New Hampshire
Oklahoma
Oregon
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
South Carolina
South Dakota
Utah
Vermont
Virginia
Washington
West Virgina
Wisconsin
Virgin Islands

Of course NY isn't a state with a shortage, so I guess I'll be moving  But Florida has a shortage and that's where I want to go :goodvibes

Wow, it sounds like you've got quite the semester ahead of you! Your classes & activities sound like fun. I wish I was still in college - I loved my time there. :lovestruc Enjoy every moment!

Speech pathology is a great field - I know here in Louisiana there's a great need for them. We're not Florida - but it's still the Deep South. :thumbsup2

Hi everybody! Sorry I haven't updated in awhile. School has been very busy. I dropped my art history class because I didn't like it and I have so much other stuff going on. I've been to several flute choir meetings and I'm really enjoying it. Our theme is "Fairy Tale" and we're playing songs like "Scarborough Fair" and "Reflection" from Mulan. We're also playing a "Magic and Mystery Suite". The first part is Bach's Tocatta in D Minor, which you may recognize from SpectroMagic. It plays right after Jiminy Cricket says "where the thrill of Disney fantasies come to electric life." We're also getting T-shirts and they should look something like this:

Front:

Back:
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_9kccZjAp_Y4/S3RAOuAbt7I/AAAAAAAAAcs/uXvfOdPoD4o/s800/Back.jpg

I have my first sign language class tonight, and the theme for our songs for that is Boy Bands. I also got an A- on my first bio test!

I have a roommate now. My friend from next door moved in because her roommate is dating an emotionally abusive guy and my friend couldn't deal with her roommate coming back to the room crying and then running back to him every three days.

So I checked allears this morning and this is what I see:

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9kccZjAp_Y4/S3Q63EVqBMI/AAAAAAAAAcQ/9hxf1tXPY1M/s800/Untitled.jpg

:scared1: I say "What?!" and my roommate, Katie, says "What's wrong?" I said "I don't know yet, let me read the details" :rotfl2:

I'm thinking "I've never even really seen Wishes and I love SpectroMagic. This can't be happening!" So I read the blog and it says these changes will be happening in early June. Whew! Quote from the blog:
"• The term “Summer Nightastic” was introduced to describe the 2010 Summer nights at Walt Disney World.
• Crofton announced to a very happy audience that the Main Street Electrical Parade was coming back to The Magic Kingdom in early June 2010. This time the ELP will have Tinker Bell leading the way. Also, Snow White and Pinocchio will also be joining the parade.
• Also this summer The Magic Kingdom will have a new fireworks spectacular at The Magic Kingdom.
• At Disney’s Hollywood Studios the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror will welcome “drop-ins” with new surprises, new lighting effects, and a new drop sequence.
• The Sounds Like Summer concert series returns to Epcot and there are plans to expand Disney’s Animal Kingdom evening hours.

Overall it sounds pretty cool, especially the ToT updates and the AK extended hours. Just let me experience Disney the way it is one more time before everything completely changes! Maybe in a few years I'll go back to see the Fantasyland expansion and all the new things, like Star Tours.

That's all for now. And we're almost to the 3 month mark!

Hey everybody! I’m trying to type this quietly as Katie just worked the 12-8 shift as a dispatcher at University Police; she’s a little tired! I’ve got a few things to share with you.

1)My friends and I went to see “Valentine’s Day” on Saturday. It was cute and predictable, but those are my favorite kinds of movies! Plus it’s directed by Garry Marshall, so I had fun looking for the people that he uses in almost all his movies. If you don’t know, go watch the Princess Diaries and then Valentine’s Day. I’ll tell you the people and their roles in both movies.
-Kathleen Marshall (Garry’s daughter)(Charlotte in PD/Cashier at the Flower Store in VD)
-Larry Miller (Paolo in PD/Southwest Oversize Baggage Counter Guy in VD)
-Hector Elizando (Joe in PD/Edgar in VD)

2)I had an Anatomy & Physiology test on Wednesday, which we received the grades for on Friday. I got an 82 (B-) but when we went over the test, there was one question where the professor marked the wrong answer and a few questions that more than half the class missed, so we got 2 points back for each. That brought me up to an 88 (B+)!

3)I heard on the DIS that Wishes will be replaced by Magic, Music, and Mayhem (the fireworks from the Pirate and Princess Parties). I don’t know if it’s true, but I like that show (from what I’ve seen of it on YouTube) almost as good as Wishes. It’s especially cool when the pirates “blow up” the castle!

4)The price of the Crystal Palace breakfast has gone up $2/person. :sad2:

5)We are almost to the 3 month mark! Currently at 3 months and 2 days!

6)Yesterday I received an e-mail from JC, the guy I am renting the DVC points from. He said he was reading this PTR and would like to upgrade us to a Savannah view room for the last 4 or 5 days of our trip. I’m thinking “This is too good to be true. What’s the catch?” I called mom to ask her if she’d be up for it; I knew she might not like the idea of having to switch rooms halfway through, getting new room keys, packing/repacking all the luggage, etc., but she said she’d be fine with it. She did make fun of me though, saying “When are you going to sit and watch the animals? I didn’t think sitting was in your itinerary!” Haha mom, very funny. I then said, “That’s what our four hour afternoon breaks are for.” “Four hours? I can see napping for two, but not four!” “I’m building in travel time…”
So I e-mailed JC and said “I’d like to take you up on your offer, but I just want to make sure I’m not misunderstanding and that you want to do this at no extra cost to me.” He replied that he just wanted to do this because “anybody going for that long should have a view of the Savannah for at least a few days.” He said from reading this PTR I seemed like a nice, good person and sometime good people need good things to happen to them. Well, that turned my not so great Valentine’s Day right around. However, I didn’t get back to him fast enough and the savannah view is no longer available, at the end or the beginning of the trip. I got excited, but we are fine with the standard view, because I don’t think even those are too bad, we won’t be in the room much, and there are plenty of public viewing areas. (JC, if you’re reading this, thank you again for your generosity. We really appreciate it, even if it didn’t work out!)

Thanks for letting me know about the price hike at CP. Didn't even know about that!

Too bad you missed out on the Savannah view. I'm sure you'll be so busy going in and out of your room, that you'll hardly notice the lack of animals. It would've been nice though.

Whoo hoo! We are at the three month mark (88 days)!

I'm very excited to see the crowd levels are still low for our days. They are a 4 or a 6 every day. The UG crowd calendar never goes below a 4 anymore, so I think this is as good as it's gonna get! Also, April hours came out on RideMax yesterday. I was using dates with similar hours and slightly higher crowd levels (because they aren't that low in April) and the wait time look fantastic! The longest waits will probably be for Spectro, Wishes, etc. The longest printed wait time is 30 minutes for the Nemo show at 1pm. Everything else seems to be less than 25 minutes, with the average around 10-13. I know they're not my dates exactly, but I'm pleased with what I'm seeing and hoping for similar results! Also, we will be in a recommended park almost everyday. Our second Epcot & DHS days are neither avoid nor recommended parks for those days according to UG and RideMax also says to avoid DHS that day, but Epcot is a recommended park (DHS because of Fantasmic!)

So on Saturday, my roommate Katie, our friend Jill, and I went to the Corning Museum of Glass and to visit Katie's family, about 20 minutes from the museum. All in all, about 3 hours round trip of driving. We had a lot of fun and it was good to have a homemade meal. I took a lot of pictures and I'm linking the Facebook album!

Hey everybody! So the first two Saturdays in February I had interviews for the RA position. I'll find out the results of that next Friday, but I don't think I'm going to get it. That's okay though, as I'm not sure I necessarily I want the position anymore. My friends and I are also applying to live in the Writer's House next year. It's the newest dorm, opened in Spring 2009. It's awesome in there. It's a suite style building, but different than most of the suites. It's two (larger than I'm living in now) bedrooms that share a bathroom (sink and shower/sink and toilet) and they have a large foyer. Hopefully we get in, I find out on the 12th.

I've also applied to be an Orientation Advisor over the summer. During the freshman/transfer orientations you have a group of 10-15 students and you do ice breakers with them and introduce them to college life. It seems like a lot of fun and I'm feeling much better about that than the RA thing. The group interview was really fun and I felt comfortable with the people who were fellow candidates. We played a few ice breakers, answered some possible orientee questions ("What if I don't like my roommate?" "Can I bring a car to campus?") all of which I knew the answer to, except "Where are the parties?" I know the streets but not specific locations. My individual interview was the next day and I think that went well. We had to role play at the end and the Student Orientation Coordinator interviewing me says "I'm going to be the awkward orientee sitting in the corner of the dining hall by myself, looking miserable. You come talk to me." I started with the basics: What's your name, where are you from, what do you want to major in. Then I told her I wanted to introduce her to some other people. When it was over, she said nobody's ever told her that before, so I'm hoping it was a good answer.

I've also been asked to interview at a camp for diasabled/disadvantaged children that I applied at. However, I told them I'd like to interview, but seeing as I'll find out about the OA position before the camp interview I told them I'd get back to them as to whether I'd still be interested.

My friend Katie old me that her grandma wants to take her family to Disney next April. I was trying to talk them out of April because, among other reasons, Katie won't be on break. And college professors won't care that you weren't there because you were on vacation. But then her aunt said something about her family going in two weeks so now Katie and I are just both very confused. She doesn't really like her aunt, but I said "Well, she'll be going at one of the most expensive, crowded times and probably won't have a plan, so she'll wait in line forever." That made her feel better. I told her if her family wants any help planning, I'd be happy to help!:rotfl2::thumbsup2

I'm going home this weekend, because for my dance history class I need to see a professional performance and there's one at the Unversity of Buffalo. I'm hoping the snow doesn't strand me!

Yesterday I mailed the last payment for our room. Today I ordered the tickets from Undercover Tourist at 7:30am and had an e-mail at 9:20 saying they had shipped, so I'm pleased so far. And it was cheap! $575.90 for 2 7-day WPF&M tickets using the MouseSavers discount. That's a saving of $33.32 over the Disney gate price :cool1::thumbsup2 So this means that the room, flights, and tickets are all set. I will order our food from Garden Grocer in a few weeks, after I get paid a few times!

Yesterday I was running more RideMax plans. We are going to AK on a Sunday and RM doesn't work for Sundays. The park is open from 9-7, so I'm currently using a Tuesday in April with same hours, recommended park, and crowd levels. The only other days in May with the same hours are days with EMH which we will be avoiding. So I couldn't get it to give me a good plan riding EE twice. Finally I just left it out all together and got a 1.5 hour break from 1:30-3. I asked on the RideMax thread if that would be enough time to ride twice using the singles line. I was then informed that using the Give a Day promotion, if you don't need the free day, you can redeem it for FASTPASSes, sort of like the birthday FASTPASSes of last year. So I'm looking into volunteering when I'm home over spring break in a week! And if mom does it too, we can get these FASTPASSes on TWO different days!
If you're interested in this plan, here's a link (http://www.oinc.net/disney/fastpass.php#GAD).

2 months and 13 days! (For whatever reason, my ticker is off by a day)

Oh and P.S. I just got my RA letter...and they didn't pick me. But that's okay because I decided I didn't really want it anyway. Next Friday though I find out if they've picked me for Writer's House and/or orientation advisor. Those I will be crushed about if I don't get in.

Woohoo! What a nice feeling it is when everything is paid off :woohoo:

You've been quite the busy bee lately with school and such.

My hat goes off to you being able to ride EE twice in a row. I did that when I was there in Feb and....well.... you'll see my reaction when I get to it in my TR. ;)

Wow! You've been really busy, huh? And :woohoo: for paying everything off! That's always such a relief, isn't it?

I do hope you get at least one of the programs you're interested in. Writer's House sounds great - and I love the name!

I was an Orientation volunteer one semester. It was fun & a great way to meet new people. But since I didn't live on campus, it took a lot of time away from other on campus activities that I wanted to join. I was assigned as liason for off campus living - this was before they required freshmen to live on campus. Lots of fun & a great experience. Especially since I was a bit shy back then. I'm sure living on campus would make it a lot easier. :thumbsup2

:cool1::yay::woohoo: --> Your trip (and mine) is just a blink away! We'll be enjoying the Disney magic before you know it. :goodvibes

I got my letter about orientation a week before planned and...

THEY PICKED ME!!!!:cool1::worship::banana::woohoo::yay: :cheer2: So I will be back in Geneseo from June 8th to July 19th. Hopefully I'll have time to work on my trip report and scrapbook before/during that time!

On a trip note, we got our tickets on Saturday, 2 days after I ordered them. Needless to say, I was very impressed. Mom said we have Goofy and Mickey and then said "Wait, is Pluto the gold dog?" (Me looking at the tickets on allears) "Yes-gold dog, green collar, purple background?" "Yup" So we actually have

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9kccZjAp_Y4/S5ep5OXdwoI/AAAAAAAAAeI/IhrP__FcmoM/s800/09-mickey.jpg

and

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_9kccZjAp_Y4/S5ep7Y11bcI/AAAAAAAAAeM/Agm8acd37Ks/s800/09-pluto.jpg

I told mom I want Pluto because his background is purple and that's my favorite color.

Finally, we've signed up to volunteer with Project Linus, making blankets for children in the hospital. I've set our date up through DisneyParks as next Friday. I was a little worried yesterday when I saw that the Get a Day program is closed, but according to the Disney FAQs, as long as we've officially registered through them and are set to volunteer in the next 60 days, you will still get you vouchers.

Now comes the hard part. We want to use the FASTPASS cards on our AK day and first DHS day (with TSM). However, whether or not we need them depends on how many times we want to ride the Safari and TSM. If we do the Safari once and TSM twice, we won't need the passes. If we want to ride more than that, we will. Mom and I decided we would figure that out while I'm home. If we don't need the passes we'll donate our free day to one of the Boys & Girls Club or Dreams Take Flight Canada.

Two months and 7 days!

Katie (my roommate) and I got into Writer's House! :cool1::thumbsup2:goodvibes Katie's boyfriend did not :sad2: but he wasn't sure if he wanted to live on campus anyway. Our other friend, Jill, applied but told us the other day she wouldn't be living with us in a very drama filled event. I'm very confused/upset/hurt/angry as to what led to her decision, but that's a story for another day. But I have a place to live next year! The dorm just opened in Spring 2009, so its only a year old. It's technically a suite style building. Each suite has two double rooms joined by a foyer. On one side of the foyer is a sink/shower and on the other side is a sink/toilet. I'm going from the oldest dorm in campus to the newest! Here are some pictures from when it was still being finished (so no furniture)

This is the central lounge area; there's one per floor. In addition to the kitchen equipment you see here, there are also two small couches, a coffee table, and a high table and chairs. This is also where the vending machines are located. To the left of the counter is the laundry room. I'm so excited to not have to carry all my laundry up and down 3 flights of stairs anymore!

Registration starts at the end of this month. Next semester I have to take Fundamentals of Clinical Processes, Language Intervention, Fluency Intervention, and Speech and Hearing Science (all for my major)-I also have to complete 25 hours of clinical observation. I also have to take Humanities I (required). It is "A search for moral, social, and political alternatives and meaning embodied in the institutions, culture, and literature of Western Civilization from the beginnings to 1600. The course is factual as well as conceptual, including a narrative history of the period covered." I'm hoping to take Humanities II (1600-present) next summer in England, but depending on how much I like being an OA this summer, maybe I'll do that again next summer instead.

On a trip related note: The other day I found a thread asking about people's favorite guidebooks. Someone recommended "The Complete Walt Disney World 2010" by Julie and Mike Neal. I picked it up from the local library and it's very interesting. It gives hour by hour wait times for all the rides, as well as FASTPASS return times based on when you pick up the FASTPASS. They give lots of details about the ride and there's lots and lots of color photos. I wouldn't say I like it better than Passporter or Unofficial Guide- I like all 3 equally for what they are.

Yoo hoo! Anybody there? Well, this post is all trip/Disney related!

First, a few weeks ago my mom bought me window clings of the princesses, Princess and the Frog, and Tinkerbell, so Katie and I decorated the windows (I know they're a little faint, but you get the gist):

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9kccZjAp_Y4/S6A5YXA7FPI/AAAAAAAAAiA/yxaQ48ZYxxw/s800/Disney%20Stuff%20001.JPG

Next, my scrapbooking supplies finally came. 30 double sided sheets, various stickers and die cuts-only $4.95! The paper is 12x12, but the box was probably twice that and stuffed with packing peanuts-apparently they didn't want the paper to get bent! The paper is a Mickey theme.

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_9kccZjAp_Y4/S6A5des6jaI/AAAAAAAAAig/KQEEEjYNuao/s800/Disney%20Stuff%20007.JPG

Also, I finished our blankets for Project Linus. The green plaid is toddler sized; the butterfly print is for a teen.

I'm still not sure what I'm doing with the vouchers. We will definitely donate one, but I might keep the other to use for FASTPASSes at AK. I got a good plan with RideMax, but it still involves a lot of FASTPASSes! If anyone will be at AK on Sunday, May 23rd and would like one of the FASTPASS cards, let me know. Each voucher is good for 6 people and there's only two of us!

I've decided we will not be seeing It's Tough to Be a Bug. I'm not really a fan of 3D anyway, plus stingers and crawlies...:scared1: We'll sit it out this time. I've also decided we don't need to see Country Bear Jamboree. Finally, I definitely want to meet the fairies, so I'm setting aside a good hour and a half or so for Toontown right when it opens. May dates should be up in RideMax in the next few days. Once they are, I can post our daily itineraries!

Now for the sad news. We were discussing the budget and we've decided we need to cancel some ADRs. Though I'm hanging onto the ressies for now, we're saying goodbye to Sci Fi and Akershus. We sat and discussed this for literally about an hour. I put a poll up here and Sci Fi and 50's PTC got an overwhelming amount of cancellation votes, but I really want to keep 50's, so we'll leave Sci Fi and just grab the yummy sounding veggie sandwich from Backlot Express. We can see all the princesses present at Akershus elsewhere in World Showcase. I really want to see Belle in her yellow dress (in France she wears her blue one) but I think she wears it at Toontown, so maybe I can catch her there! Getting rid of those two meals is saving us about $100!

That's all for now. 2 months and 1 day!

:wave2: I'm still here! I've been bad about posting, just reading along. I'll try to do better.

That's great news about the Writer's House assignment! The place looks great in the pictures!

Your window clings are super cute, it makes it nice to have daily reminders of Disney, doesn't it?

I think getting FP cards are a great idea.

Aw, what? No love for bugs or ratty old bears? ;) We usually pick a few rides/attractions to skip, too. When you go often enough, it just makes sense.

WOO HOO! on the 2 month mark!:dance3::banana:

Oh good! I saw that this PTR has had over 1000 views and thought-not all of them can be from me!

That's great news about the Writer's House assignment! The place looks great in the pictures!

I'm so excited!

Yes, they are absolutely adorable.

I was planning on going to both. Mom was never very enthusiastic about the bears and kept trying to use the excuse "You saw them when you were 3".;) I was reading my new guidebook that said the sound system is bad and that kind of sealed the decision. The bugs are another story entirely, and my question about whether or not we should do them has spawned a 3 page debate!

WOO HOO! on the 2 month mark!:dance3::banana:

Yes, we're very excited!

I'm still here too! Nice windows :cutie:

I'm thinking we might need to cancel some ADRs too. It's so hard to take some off the list because you want to do them all! Oh well... I'm sure you won't miss to much from Sci-Fi. I hear the service and food is mediocre at best. Too bad about Akershus. I'd really like to go back there myself. You'll still all the princesses around I'm sure.

Subbing! I love the detail of your PTR...however, I just want to point out one thing about the GAD and fastpasses. From what you said, I thought that you meant that you'll get 6 sets of FPs to use for once GAD voucher. Although Disney does give you up to 6, if you have 6 people in your party, you won't be able to get 6 w/ just your mom and you b/c they require you to present the tickets of the people in your party when you pick them up. Since you'll only have 2 park tickets, you'll only be able to get two sets of FPs. If you already knew this, then sorry...just wanted to make sure you knew! :goodvibes

Keep up the great PTR!

Yes, I knew that. What I meant is that we will have one voucher, and we can get up to 6 FP Exchange cards using the one voucher. We will only have 2 cards unless we find 4 more people! Each card has 3 FPs good for KS and EE, and 3 for ITTBAB, KRR, and PW. And since we will have 2 cards that's 6 and 6 in all :) It's confusing, I know! I had to find a website that explained it all very clearly!

Oh, I didn't know that each card had more than 1 FP for a certain ride!! Is that always the case for the FP if you get it at AK? Do you know what FPs you can get at different parks?

Also, as a side-note, I was wondering if you and your mom are getting the PhotoPass? We're considering it but not sure...

Here is the website I used to get more info on the GAD FP :Disney Untangled-Give a Day FASTPASS (http://www.oinc.net/disney/fastpass.php#GAD)

I'm not sure either about the Photopass. I thought about doing a share (because really, a single CD for a family is ridiculously priced :scared1:) but I'm not sure how much we will utilize the photographers.

I'm thinking about canceling Chef Mickey's. The price just went up to $26.62/person, which I think is a bit much for (what I hear is) mediocre food and character interactions. We can meet Mickey & friends at the Character Spot in Epcot. If we cancel and just grab a breakfast platter from Mara (which will probably feed the two of us!) it saves us $55. Any thoughts?

I just canceled Chef Mickey's. Mickey is available in all 4 parks, and aside from Crystal Palace, the characters I most want to meet are: the Fairies, Tiana, and the princesses (around WS or in Toontown), and the Up characters. Like mom said, I will eventually go back and can meet Mickey another time.

Also, Katie and I just picked our suite for next year. We picked one overlooking the valley so we can see the awesome sunsets every night :cloud9: We're sharing with a girl named Rachel that our friend Jill went to school with, and her incoming student friend. The best part? Our friends Ray, Wilson, and Tyler will be in the suite next to us! We're 303, they're 304! :goodvibes

Since so many people are going home for Easter (except me) we're celebrating next Friday instead. We'll be going to Pizza Hut (since I don't get there often and we're poor college kids) then having a mudslide mousse pie from the union and playing some games.

Today I have a class, Katie and I are eating lunch, then I have work for 5 hours or so. I'll be spending the evening watching movies!

Happy belated birthday Gretchen! :goodvibes

I think it was a good idea to cancel CM's...I mean it's a fun thing to do but the food really isn't that great IMHO. So w/o the DDP, I don't really think it's worth it.

Yeah, I've heard iffy things abut the food and character interaction. As much as I'd like to meet Mickey, he's not on my top characters list, and we'll probably find him in the parks anyway. Plus, Mom's not crazy about the buffets/all you can eats, anyway, as she is currently doing the LA Weight Loss plan and has been very successful so far. We're keeping Crystal Palace, Ohana, and Boma because I've heard very few bad things about them, and we had a good experience at CP before. There's always another trip!

Yesterday was my last day at work for the semester. My bosses bought me a $50 Applebee's gift card to use before/after Disney when we're too tired to cook, and 3 scratch off lottery tickets. I won $10 on one of the tickets, which I cashed in today and then bough 5 more tickets. Out of those 5, I only won $2. :sad2: That will teach me!

I went home Thursday night for a doctor's appointment and went to Home Depot, where I took 31 Mickey head paint chips-30 to make a countdown calendar, and 1 to write my screen name on and attach to my backpack at the parks.

Mom said our Magical Express stuff came yesterday-after I left, of course! She said there's two yellow ME tags and an info booklet, but no Tinkerbell tags. Are they not giving those out anymore? Or do they just come when you book a package and get your other things like Planet Hollywood gift certificate, mini-golf 1/2 off pass, etc.?

I'm thinking about canceling Chef Mickey's. The price just went up to $26.62/person, which I think is a bit much for (what I hear is) mediocre food and character interactions. We can meet Mickey & friends at the Character Spot in Epcot. If we cancel and just grab a breakfast platter from Mara (which will probably feed the two of us!) it saves us $55. Any thoughts?

i think its deffinetly a good idea. while CM is in a beautiful place, its more worth the price for families with little kids. use your money somewhere else where you'll get more out of it.

I also loved your idea of the paint thing mickey heads. I have those taped all over my bedroom door, they really do make great decorations!!!

Also, in response to your tinkerbelle tags question, when i went to disney last year we didnt get any. We got these big plastic tags to attach to bags (in addition to the magical express tags) but nothing tinkerbelle related.

Enjoying your PTR and cant wait to read more!!!:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Yes, I felt a little strange grabbing so many Mickey heads but I think the end result was great!

Apparently we didn't get any other tags besides the ME ones.

So, mom and I were talking and decided that we wanted to add some room requests to our reservation. We wanted an upper floor room close to the lobby, so we e-mailed the guy we're renting from and he added it for us. This picture is from allears and we don't think it's a bad view at all. It is a studio with a standard view on the top floor in the section closest to the lobby, about midway down that section.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_9kccZjAp_Y4/S8MbsJ_mJOI/AAAAAAAAAoA/G8_6XU-QWZs/s800/kida09c22.jpg

I also decided that I want to do the Pick a Pearl in Japan. I saw a thread on here yesterday about it, and someone put pictures of a Cinderella carriage holder they bought on ebay for $3.50. They were pleased with the product and the seller has 100% positive ratings, so I bought one as well. It includes a chain and I think it's a much cheaper option that paying Disney prices for a setting. These pictures are from the person on the DIS who recommended the product.

Finally, we decided that we are going to celebrate our birthdays while we are down there. Yes, we are cheating a bit since I just had mine and mom's isn't until July, but we'll be there at about the midway point between our birthdays. We were going to do this three years ago, the year we both had milestone birthdays (me 16, mom 50), but it didn't work out. So I added birthday celebrations to all our ADRs and our room ressie, in addition to the "personal triumphs"-Mom losing 30+ pounds, me finishing my freshman year of college! And, since my birthday celebration Friday night was a bit of a letdown, I want a do over!

We also started a list of last minute things to buy. We need another memory card-ours is only 256MB-, a disposable water proof camera for the water parks and pool, sunscreen (SPF 50 because I'm a ginger who burns soooo easily and then I turn this color ), a pre-paid Visa gift card, sandwich bags (because they're cheaper here than at Garden Grocer), and ponchos (for Kali River Rapids, rain, and possibly Splash Mountain). I also started a discussion about what shoes people wear to the water parks. Most said they either wear water shoes (which I can't stand) or just leave their flip flops at their chair and go barefoot. I think that's the option we'll be going with.

We are officially one month away!! I think that deserves a lot of happy smilies, so we interrupt this post for a lot of dancing, smiling, and cheering. :cool1::banana::woohoo::yay::cheer2:party::dancer: :jumping1:

Okay, so I can start crossing off my countdown calendar tonight! And I have OA training all day today and tomorrow, so that should make the days go by a little faster!

Last night I was looking through some threads here on the DIS and decided that instead of making/buying an autograph book, I'm making a binder. Using templates I found here on the DIS I saved a page for each character I'm hoping to meet, and some I might not (ie., I saved all 5 fairies, even though we'll only meet 3, saved Cinderella on the off chance we have time to meet the princesses in Toontown and she's there),and some generic extras for some I'm not expecting. I will put two templates on a page and print them out, then throw them in a binder. That way I can just take the templates and cut them, then put them in the scrapbook. Here's are some examples (templates are all from Natalie on the Creative DISign board):

This is a generic one:

Thanks! I figure, if we're already taking a backpack, the binder won't be a terribly heavy addition, I can have the characters pages organized in the way we'll meet them (ie, Crystal Palace, Adventureland, and Liberty Square characters, followed by characters found on the left hand side of Disney Studios), and it's a sturdy surface! I also won't feel bad about taking them out/cutting them to put in the scrapbook. :goodvibes

I'm not sure exactly, but I know the pearl itself is $17 or so, then you have to pay extra for the setting, and more for the chain if you get a necklace. Plus, different settings have different costs. I think it's about $25 for a cheap setting.

:cool1: 30 days!!!!!

The luggage tags come with your final booklet with the Planet Hollywood vouchers, etc that you mentioned. The luggage tags don't have Tinker Bell on them anymore though. It's just the castle with the "What will you celebrate?" slogan. They're still nice tags.

Hi-five on being another who burns easily. I have two skin tones - pale & burnt. No tanning for this girl. It totally sucks but I'd rather be pale than burnt and get skin cancer. I always carry a 60SPF sunblock with me just in case. If I want to get a little sun, I put on the 30SPF. I have freckles (not the fat ones that are all over the body) but little ones on my face, shoulders, knuckles, etc. They spread like crazy in the sun!

Love your notebook pages! Hope you get lots of character signatures!

Hi! Thanks for joining in! I love my posters, but unfortunately they've fallen down so many times that I've had to peel off the tape and retape, so they've started to rip, and I finally took them down for good the other day-less to do in 23 days when I'm done! But, good excuse to buy more next year.

So, my mom was fired today. She's been on administrative leave since April 2nd and it was for a really stupid thing too. Basically, her boss doesn't like her and just wanted her gone. So, she's collecting unemployment while looking into working for another agency, or going back to school (well, not back, since she didn't go to college in the first place), or both. My aunt can't believe we're still going because of the lack of secure income, and my mom told her "no way are we canceling, we've put too much money in already, and it's been planned for too long!"

On the upside, I got my financial aid award info for next year, and it looks like I may be getting another large refund, so maybe we can make this trip an annual thing. But, I'm not counting on it, though it would be nice!

Only 24 more days!

I'm sure you'll catch up soon!

Thanks for your well wishes. Because of what she does, her field is in high demand. Not a lot of folks want to work with the disabled. She's looking at BOCES for nursing or the local community college for Occupational Therapy Assistant. The other night was very funny because I was telling her about the financial aid forms, but that she needs to apply to the school first. I think she forgot about that part. :rotfl:
Mom: "I get so into these things and then I don't want to wait."
Me: There's a whole process. You need to apply and then be accepted. And you need to do it soon if you want to get in for fall, otherwise you might have to wait until next spring.
Mom: But I don't want to wait that long.
Me: Do you not remember me applying to schools way in advance?
Mom: Yeah, but I thought that's just because you were anal.
Me: No, it's because schools have deadlines. But your program is still open. Call ECC and ask what you need to do (we're not sure if she needs her transcripts/SAT scores from 35 years ago).

:lmao:

Oh parents.

Anyway, we're only 20 days away now and this time next month we'll be eating dinner at Sunshine Seasons, before I ride the TAME version of Mission Space, and then stake out our place for IllumiNations. It will be our last night in Disney.

I realized today that one week from now is my last day of classes, two weeks from now is my last final/the day I go home, and three weeks from now I will be in the Magic Kingdom heading towards the Tiki Room, according to my RideMax plan!

My first year of college will be over a week from tomorrow! :scared1: Where did the year go?!

I've taken on the task of updating the categorized food picture thread. The woman who was doing it updated it last in July, then said it became too much of a chore and was no longer fun. Understandable, because it does take a lot of time. I'm nowhere near done, but I've gotten through a good chunk of it. Here's the link if you want to check it out: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2456371

I made a packing list the other day. We're taking two carry-ons: My backpack with things we'll need on the plane (laptop, iPod, ME stuff, cell phones) and a small suitcase with things we'll need at the hotel before the luggage gets delivered. We're also bringing 1 suitcase each, and mixing our stuff in each one, so if (heaven forbid) one gets lost, we won't be completely out of luck. :thumbsup2 Mom bought me a princess word search book that I plan to do while waiting at the airport, and I am bringing coloring books for the plane. We also plan to watch either a few episodes of GLEE or the first Pirates of the Caribbean.

Every year Geneseo has a day for undergrads to present their research they've done. Flute Choir got to perform as part of the event, and we got awesome lanyards with the pouches on the end that have a clear pocket, and several zip pockets on the inside. I'm so excited about this because I was thinking about how handy one of those would be for our IDs, credit cards, KTTW cards, FPs, and GAD FP cards. :goodvibes I've also purchased a waterproof camera, a 2GB memory card, and ponchos from WalMart.

I went home this past weekend and finally got to see our ME booklet. How many times do they need to say the Welcome Center is located on Level 1, Side B? I think it says it on every page, plus the front & back covers. And then there's the map, where the location is circled in bright red. But, as my roommate pointed out, there's always that one person who will still ask. :sad2:

I decided to rent a bunch of Disney movies to keep me occupied until I'm done with finals. I got Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland (the original), The Rescuers, The Aristocats, The Lion King (1 & 2), Angels in the Outfield, Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins, and Monsters, Inc. So far I've watched Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland, and the Lion King 1, as well as part of the Aristocats. Dumbo was such a racist movie I couldn't even finish it. I don't know how many of you have seen it, but at one point, the black men and the elephants are working to put up the Big Tent. The men are singing about how they didn't go to school and never learned to read or write, but are okay with being "roustabouts" for the rest of their lives. I also disliked the whipping of the elephants, and how mean everyone was to poor Dumbo. He was so cute, I just wanted to hug him. Katie and I watched The Lion King last week (a favorite of both of us) and Alice last night. Now, two funny quotes came from us last night. My mom said I last saw Alice when I was about 3 and actually understood what was going on, so last night, this came out of my mouth:

"Three year old me must have been a genius because I don't understand any of this right now. " :rotfl:

Then at one point the DVD was skipping, so Katie says: "They're speaking gibberish...You got the french version!"

Oh, the antics of two bored college girls.

I also got the Unofficial Guide again, to do some last minute reading on how to beat the crowds leaving the parades/fireworks. They also upped the crowd levels on three of our days-first AK day and both Epcot days. Disney also added a second Fantasmic! show the night we're supposed to see it, but mom said she'd rather go to the earlier one, so that's what we're doing.

Finally, she had a job interview last week and thinks it went very well. They also couldn't believe why she was fired and have called all her references, who have given her glowing recommendations, of course! So we're keeping our fingers crossed!

I think I've decided that I will put next year's refund away, and then we can go again in 2012. I'd love to go for Food & Wine after seeing some of the fantastic pics, but it's not a practical time, as I'd have to take off college and that's a bad idea. We'll see thought!

Only 14 days! I can use online check in this Friday!! :banana:This time in two weeks we'll be at AKV, swimming and eating dinner at the Mara-looking forward to the African Stew and Zebra Domes! :cloud9:

My student centre on campus gave out some of those lanyards with clear pouches and zipped pockets too! I was able to snatch a few for me and Andrew before they ran out. It'll be so perfect for all the little cards when we're in the parks.

Oh my gosh, you're so clooose!!!! I'm so excited for you! I watched Alice recently too and it was so confusing! I could barely follow it! When I was a kid, the part with the walrus and clams TERRIFIED me.

Yes, those little pouches are so awesome. I could have bought one from Passporter, but why do that when I can get one for free? We also have a yellow plastic box type thing that goes around your neck. I need to make sure it's water proof, but if it is, we'll take that to the water parks with us!

Yeah, throughout the whole movie I was just thinking "What the heck is going on?" Apparently the walrus/carpenter/clam poem is one of Katie's favorites. :confused3

Really? I found it so morbid! How he gets them to like and follow him, but he just eats them in the end. Those clams are so cute!

EDIT: OKAAAAY! I'm finally ALL caught up! I was looking at the templates you have for your autographs. That first one with a star with a Mickey in the middle, I have that! As in, that's a Swarovksi pendant that my mom got me to congratulate me on getting my G license! I'll have pics up on my PTR soon. It's one of the pendants I'm wearing to the World

Ahh, my sister is done with school in a couple weeks too. Crazy! College went by way too fast for me. There are times I wish I was still in school because then I wouldn't have to worry about finding a "real" job (the teaching market sucks here!).

YAY for 2 weeks! So jealous. Save a zebra dome for me! ;) Those things are so good.

Yeah, I don't think she likes the sequence itself, just the poem.

Yay for being caught up! My autograph binder has gotten a little out of control. :rolleyes1 I've printed out a page for any character that we might possibly meet, plus 6 generics for characters that I don't have a page for. :lmao: I also know there's no possible way we'll meet all of them!

Is a G license an adult drivers license? In the US it's D, so I'm not sure. Looking forward to the pics.

I'm thinking this year went by waaaay fast. I'm kind of glad it's over though. Too many "friends" acting like they're still in high school. What do you teach? (Or have your degree in?) Hey, you just got back! And you're going again in 7+ months! Who knows when I'll get back for sure. :confused3 We might end of actually saving a zebra dome for you-I was telling my mom what was in them and she said "Woah, that sounds really, really rich". We'll try our best to finish them though!

Well...kind of. The license system is 3-tiered in Ontario. At 16, you can take a written exam to get your G1 (essentially a driver's permit). You can only drive with someone that has driven for at least 5 years with a G license and you can't drive on highways or after midnight....

After a year, you can take a road test to get your G2, which allows you to drive by yourself, no time restrictions, and on the highways.

Within 3 years of getting your G1, you have to pass the highway exam to get your G. If you don't, you'll have to re-take the G1 and G2 exams.

It's complicated, I know. It used to be 2-tiered, but I guess Canada just wants to delay teenagers on the road? We recently just passed a bylaw that people have to be at least 18 to get their G1 now! It starts for people born in 1993 and younger.

OK, we have a similar system here. You must be 16 to take your written test and get your permit, which allows you to drive with a licensed driver over age 21. You then have to have either Drivers Education or 25 (I think) hours of practice + a 5 hour course (basically a video). Then you can take your road test. If you took Drivers Ed and are age 17, you get a full adult license. If you've only taken the 5 hour course plus your practice hours at age 17, you can only drive between the hours of 5am-9pm, unless you have school or work, which you need a form signed for. Then at 18, it automatically becomes a full license.

Mom says if she didn't hear back from the place she applied by today, she would start applying elsewhere tomorrow. I'll be sure to post as soon as I find out! Thanks for the birthday wishes! Only 12 days left-I'm so excited! And I can do online check in this Friday. :thumbsup2

Wow, an automatic license. That would be so much easier for people here to get their license. That way, we don't have that stupid expiry date. What if life gets in the way and you just don't have time to take that test? Also, the exams get more and more expensive every year.

ONLY 9 DAYS!!! Excuse me while I do the single digit dance.

:cool1::worship::banana::woohoo::yay::cheer2: :dancer:
party::jumping1:

Yesterday I did online check in. It was very easy. Because we are renting DVC points, I wasn't sure if we'd be able to do it; wasn't sure if we'd need a membership number. I added in one credit card, which will be used for souvenirs, we'll do a different one for food. (I'm paying souvenirs, mom's paying food). The only thing there was an issue with: room requests. I clicked on the link to add them, and a box popped up saying something like "We can accept up to two room requests, but they are not guaranteed unless specified below." Except there were no boxes to check off. Well, our requests are on our reservation already (high floor, near lobby) so we'll hope for the best!

Wooooo SINGLE DIGITS!!!! :cool1:

I found the room requests to not work for me either when I did online check-in. They only give you two options: Ground Floor and something else.... However, if you booked room requests with the reservation agent or have it noted on your reservation, the resort will still see it when they assign your room. If all else fails, they can usually accommodate you when you check-in. Just ask :goodvibes

Yes, I'm so excited we're one week away! Normally I wold have had my packing list done way before this, but I think I was procrastinating because of all the packing/unpacking/packing/unpacking/packing I have to do over the next month:

Tomorrow: Finish packing up my room here at school to go home.
Tomorrow/Wednesday: Unpack at home
Wednesday-Monday morning: Pack for Florida
Friday (28)-Sunday (30):Unpack from Florida
June 6-7: Pack to go back to Geneseo.

UGH!

I'll definitely be sure to post all about Kidani-I also plan on taking a zillion photos of the studio and the resort!

Mom said she's calling tomorrow to see if she got the job; apparently the HR lady was out last week.

On a slightly sad note, I'm leaving school today-all packed and ready to go, just waiting for Katie to get back so I can go sell our books back, and mom will be here around 2. Here's some picture of the packed up-ness.

Hey, your room doesn't look so bad. When I moved out of residence, I had bags of stuff EVERYWHERE. As well as a suitcase and a large plastic box for my clothes.

I STILL have a box of junk leftover from first year in my house right now....Need to go through that stuff and throw it out...I'm starting to run out of space in my closet.

I am NOT looking forward to moving out in 2 years =.=

So, the weather forecast isn't looking too great right now. :scared1: Scattered thunderstorms Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday, then isolated thunderstorms Wednesday-Friday. It's supposed to be mostly sunny on the following Sunday (the 23rd). High 80s all week though. :goodvibes

Last night after the worst dinner ever at IHOP (the service was awful, we were there nearly an hour before we got our food, and there was a hair in my eggs ) we decided to take a practice run to the airport with grandma, who will be dropping us off and picking us up (I haven't been in 3 years, mom hasn't been in one year, and I don't know when Grandma was last there as she dislikes flying). It was definitely an adventure. I know Jen will appreciate this, as she's probably the only one reading who's been to the Buffalo airport. We decided that dropping us off, Grandma will just drive up to the terminal. Picking us up, she will park in preferred long term, as all long term lots are free under two hours (but short term isn't, what sense does that make?!). So first we got into the lane for the long term lot, got our ticket, and drove around the lot until we got to the exit. Mom pulls up to a manned booth, and says to the guy "we're doing a practice run because we're flying out on Monday. For her to pick us up, she should just park here? And how do we get to the terminal?" Throughout the whole thing, the guy is just nodding his head with a knowing smile, and then tells us in a monotone voice to "follow the signs that say Terminal." You think he gets this question a lot? :rotfl: So we left the lot, and drove back in a big circle but moved over a lane to take us to the terminal. Grandma is reading the skycap booth signs, but of course she misses Southwest because it's the very first one, and even though I said 3-4 times it was back there, she kept asking where it was. :confused3 We then once again drove in a big circle, this time to get to the exit. Just as we pulled out, it started POURING rain. It was also getting dark the whole time because we'd been at IHOP for so long. I pointed out that Monday it will be daylight and sunny, so we should have better luck. :hippie:

I also found out that our flight down is SOLD OUT. :scared1: I'm not looking forward to the T-24 hour check in and mom is so worried that we'll end up with C boarding passes and won't be able to sit together. I told her it would be just like registering for classes: You get on the website 15 minutes before you're allowed to register/check in, then just keep refreshing the page until 12:45pm rolls around. I'm definitely glad we purchased the early bird check in for the trip back though. Also, I can't recall whether or not I've mentioned this before but I'm really worried about getting through security. Why? My first name isn't on my license. It's my last name, then first and middle initials. I don't know if it wouldn't fit or what, but I'm hoping it doesn't cause me problems. Stupid me didn't read the airport website closely when it said to put the name your name on the boarding pass exactly like it is on your ID. Oops. So my boarding pass has my full name. I'm not sure what back up ID to bring, as I don't have a passport. I'm probably bringing my school ID, though that only has my full name and photo, no other ID. Perhaps my birth certificate? I'm sure all this worrying is for nothing, but I'd rather be safe than sorry!

I'm almost all packed, just a few last minute things. However, the suitcase I'm currently packed in is not the one I'll be taking. I planned on it, but it's several years old and has been to camp and college with me. It's got holes all over the place and is looking a little shabby. Mom said that if we take it, the hotel isn't going to know what to do with us. It will stand out that we're "poor black children". (Not being offensive, I think it's a line Steve Martin said in "The Jerk" and it's the running joke in our family). So, when we take my brother back to his house on Sunday evening, we're stopping at my cousin's house to get a suitcase from her, then I can just transfer all my stuff to that one, tag it with the ME tags, and we're all set to go! :wizard:

I used up the majority of my meal plan money (still had $8.30 left after this :sad2:) to buy non-perishable snacks for the parks. I bought:
~6-100 calorie packs of Lorna Doone and Chips Ahoy cookies
~6 packs of blueberry pop tarts
~3 Special K Strawberry bars
~4 Strawberry NutriGrain bars
~1 bag of Swedish fish

We plan to just buy lunch at the airports. Buffalo doesn't have any chains, just generic places, but I know when we were at MCO last time, we ate at McDonald's and then got ice cream from Ben & Jerry's (mmmm Chunky Monkey :cloud9:)

Finally, I believe I've made the Dean's List for this semester (one more thing to celebrate!), but I'm still waiting on one more grade. I have an A- in Anatomy & Physiology, and Dance History. I have a B+ in Human bio lab and language acquisition. With those grades, I have a 3.54, and a 3.5 is needed for Dean's List. I had a B in bio lecture, but I think I did well enough on the last test that it may have gone up to a B+ or maybe even an A-, but I'll be sure to post here as soon as I found out.

I'll be posting our final plans over the next few days!

Only 3 days left!! This time next week we'll be heading for Downtown Disney!! :cool1:

Aww, those pictures of your packed up room make me kind of sad. When I would drive to school sometimes I'd pass by the college I went to and it always kind of annoyed me because some of the people just cross right in the middle of the street and I was always worried I'd hit someone. Well, then once school let out it was kind of depressing driving home and seeing the streets empty. :guilty: Sorry for my random story...

Katie was also very sad that I was gone, her FB status was something like "Oh, Gretchen's side of the room is so empty and less colorfully vibrant than it once was." And I told her "Yeah, now you know how I felt for that month I was by myself after Emily left and before you moved in!" I'm excited to go back next month though. I hear the college is so different in the summer because there are so few people there. Over Columbus day break, the school doesn't close but there are no classes, so people could stay if they wanted and the people that did (I wasn't one of them) said it resembled a ghost town...

WE LEAVE TODAY!!

We're heading to the airport in three hours, and our flight takes off at 12:45!! Just a few last minute items to throw in the suitcases & my backpack. For the flight, we're taking:

~Snacks
~Laptop (for movies & GLEE)
~Books
~Word Search
~Coloring Book and Crayons
~iPod

If I didn't know better, I'd say we had children flying with us from the supplies we're taking!!

I plan to take a gajillion photos while we're there. I'll try to post a brief update probably next Tuesday morning (we're getting internet Monday afternoon so Mom can do her unemployment stuff) and when I get back. I'll do my dining reviews as soon as we get back, but I probably won't start my trip report until mid July, because of my OA job. We're here! The guy I'm renting from didn't tell them we aren't DVC members, so we get free internet (I hope). I don't know if I will update daily, but I'll start off for now.

We got to the airport at 10:30. The security line looked long, but it moved quickly and we were done by 10:45. The people were pretty friendly-no problem with my license. :thumbsup2 The only rude guy was at the metal detector thing-he kept telling me to hurry-forgive me for not being an experienced traveler. :mad:We got lunch at Which Wich, a sandwich shop which was unique and delicious. The flight was uneventful, just some minor turbulence. We made our way to Magical Express without too much hassle (the way to ME through B-side according to the map was closed so we had to make a tiny detour.) There was really no wait to get on the bus-but it was a cruise bus. Anyway, we got on the bus around 4:05, and didn't sit for too long. It was less than half full. Of course, right as we got on the bus a torrential downpour thunderstorm started, but cleared up as we got closer. We stopped at Caribbean Beach and Pop Century. Then one couple got off at Jambo House, and we were the only ones for Kidani. :goodvibes Overall, it took about an hour. The staff has been wonderful. All our requests were met-we're on the 5th (top) floor in the first bead to the left of the lobby (looking at the front of the resort). Only two problems-they wouldn't put mom's credit card on her room key and when we got up to the room, our under the kitchenette sink trash was full, but we had two other empty trash cans. We explored the room, then walked over to Mara for dinner;we didn't think the walk was bad at all. We got a refillable mug, african stew and the zebra domes. Everything was delicious-I now understand the hype over the zebra domes. We walked back and went to get our tickets put on our room keys, and bought a few postcards. Mom asked about the groceries at Bell Services, and they said our luggage had also just arrived, so within a few minutes they brought everything up. Then we went to the pool, which was amazing. I love the slide!! We also found the laundry room. One of the coolest things: The elevators talk! I'm linking the facebook album I have. Talk to you all soon.

Our first morning was great! We were at the bus stop at 6:50am, and an Epcot and a DHS bus came before the MK bus, but we only waites about 15 minutes. Of course we were the only ones there. The bus driver was very friendly, and it took us about 20 minutes to get to MK, where we were one of the first families to enter the park. We stopped to get our picture taken by the Photopass guy, and he did a few shots in front of the castle, and a few Tinkerbell ones. Then we headed to Crystal Palace. We waited about 3 minutes to check in and 2 to be seated. Our waiter was awesome. I got pictures & autographs with all the characters, and Tigger was such a flirt-kissing me and holding my hands like we were ballroom dancing. :lovestruc The food was amazing; Mom said the scrambled eggs were outstanding. At the end, our waiter brought us birthday cupcakes and cards signed by all the characters. :thumbsup2 We were in and out in an hour. Then we did Pirates & Jungle Cruise, both of which were walk ons. RideMax has worked great so far. Direct quote from mom while walking through the empty pirates queue and seeing them send off empty boats: "This is nuts!". Our skipper on Jungle Cruise was great. We stopped for a bathroom break and I got a picture and autograph from Frontierland Donald. Then I went on Splash while mom watched Big Thunder to see if she wanted to go on it. Splash was also a walk on-I rode by myself in the front row and the drop wasn't as bad as I remembered. Then we took the raft over to Tom Sawyer Island. Honestly, we found it boring and we only stayed for about 15 minutes. By then our FPs for BTMRR were good, so we both went on. This was the only wait we encountered and it was short-only about 5 minutes. Mom LOVED it! After that we picked up another FP (one per ride) at Splash & BTMRR for me for later. We headed over to the Haunted Mansion-another walk on. Then I wanted to find Tiana & Naveen. We did, and that was the longest line so far-15 minutes. They were definitely worth the wait! They were so in character and got along so well with each other. Tiana asked me if I had a prince back home, and when I said no, Naveen took me over to look behind their gazebo to see if a bullfrog was there, and then Tiana told me not to kiss any toads. A Photopass guy took some pics there too. After that we were ready to head back to Kidani so mom could nap and we could cool off-it's SOOOO hot & humid right now. We got to the MK bus stop at 12pm, and waited 20 minutes for a bus. Not too bad but we were hot and our feet hurt! A few other families joined us. We saw multiple buses go by for POFQ, the All Stars, and Boardwalk, Swan & Dolphin. Mom got off at Kidani and went back to the room, and I stayed on the bus to get condiments from Mara (and to refill my mug with that delicious tea!) The condiments don't come in packets-they're in a dispenser. :headache: So I walked back with a paper cup of mustard. I went in the Zazu elevator just to get out of the heat, though we're closer to the Timon elevator, and really close to the elevators off the lobby. Those hallways are long! Mousekeeping left us a towel cake and a birthday card from Mickey while we were gone. We're heading back around 3-building in travel time. We have a few things left to do:
-Meet Ariel & Prince Eric (that's first-they stop greeting at 4:45, and the rest is in no particular order-no need for a plan because of the attractions we're doing). My friend wants Ariel's autograph, and I do too!
-Tiki Room
-Swiss Family Treehouse
-Liberty Belle
-Hall of Presidents
-Dinner at Columbia Harbour House
-Ride Splash & BTMRR with FPs
-WISHES!! I'm so excited for it!

I think this will be my last update until next Monday or Tuesday, just in case the internet isn't free.

Here's the link to the Facebook album for today.

Yeah, we were up super early. At the time you posted, we were already on the bus back to the resort after Wishes. We did get a Dole Whip, and it was delicious. My next update will probably be tomorrow evening, and I'll finish up day 2, do day 3, and begin day 4.

I'm going to be very general with my updates for now so I have stuff to say when I write my real trip report! I won't start the detailed one until late July when I have my PhotoPass Pics. Anyway, here's some more updates.
DAY 2 CON'TD
We did meet Ariel & Prince Eric and they were great as well. We had the tuna fish sandwich from Columbia Harbour House and it was so yummy, and we also got a Dole Whip, which was very refreshing. :thumbsup2 We did the Liberty Belle, the Hall of Presidents, the WDW Railroad, and the Tiki Room (so bizarre ) I also rode Splash again and barely got wet. We had time for Swiss Family Treehouse and another ride on BTMRR, but I wanted to sit, so we went to a few stores on Main Street. I bought the 2010 scrapbook at the Emporium and also some corndog nuggets from Casey's. Delicious! We watched Wishes (and sang along :rolleyes1) from right by the exit, then booked it to the bus. One came within 5 minutes. Overall, it was a great first day!

DAY 3
We were at the bus stop around 9:10, and Blizzard Beach and the Studios share a bus here. One came that was only going to the studios, but it wasn't too long before one came for BB. We got there about 20 minutes before opening. They let us in around 15 minutes before, but we were stopped by a rope. So technically, I've made rope drop everyday! I started the day off with Summit Plummet. The view from there is great. I could see EVERYTHING-Everest, AKL, Epcot, DHS, and way in the distance, the Contemporary/BLT, the Castle, and Space Mountain. After that, I did Slush Gusher and Downhill Double Dipper. I only have two things to say about these three slides:
1)They give a whole new meaning to the phrase "ripping somebody a new one". AND
2)If you're ever in need of a colon cleanse, this is the place to do it.
In case you didn't figure it out, the after effects weren't pleasant! :scared1: Then I went on Runoff Rapids and Snow Stormers. Mom and I had packed sandwiches, so we ate those. We went into Meltaway Bay for a bit, then floated through Castaway Creek. After our round trip ride and we had dried off we headed back to the bus stop, around 1:30. We waited about 20 minutes, but met two girls from Louisiana on their senior class trip. They were so nice and polite. We headed back to the hotel to get ready for dinner at......OHANA!!
We didn't wait long at all for a bus to MK, but the first boat to the Poly filled up so we had to wait for another one. We arrived at the Poly rather early, so we looked around their lobby & gift shop. I found a ring that I've been hoping to find for about 3 years-it has a "G" and a rhinestone Mickey Head on it. :woohoo: We waited a bit to check in at Ohana, and then they gave us a buzzer, so we looked in some more shops. Dinner was delicious! I'm writing a dining review, and the link will be in my sig soon if you want to check it out! Then we headed over to the Grand Floridian via the monorail. As mom said "I didn't feel outclassed at the Polynesian, but I definitely feel outclassed here." I agreed, everyone just seemed snobby. We didn't stay for very long. We continued on the monorail over to the MK, and didn't wait long for a bus. We went to look for some animals when we returned, but there weren't really many out. :sad1: Knowing we had to get up early, we headed to bed.

*I don't have any photos from Blizzard Beach at the moment. They're all either Photopass or on the waterproof disposable we bought. When I get home and have them developed, I'll scan them in.

DAY 4
I was up bright and early this morning 6:30am. Mom said she slept maybe two hours last night, so I tried to readjust our plans on the fly. I ran a few plans, but they all had us waiting 30 minutes for the Great Movie ride. Um, nope. So I decided we didn't have to do that. I decided I would use our GAD voucher today, instead of our AK day. So I left at 7:30, and mom would join me later in the morning. A bus came within 2 minutes of me getting to the stop. I got to DHS and went to redeem the GAD voucher. The lady really didn't want me to redeem it today. She said Rock 'n' Roller Coaster wasn't open, the park wasn't expected to be busy, if I waited I could get cards for the whole family. :headache: Yes lady, I know. Give me my card already! So she finally did, and I headed in. I was the first in line at my turnstile. I waited there for 45 minutes. Once they let us in, I power walked to the rope. *I realized once I got on the bus I forgot my sunglasses. Also, once I had taken 12 pictures and my "memory card" was full, I realized I'd also forgotten my memory card in the room, so a few of my pics are missing at the moment. I didn't bring my camera USB cord.* They brought out Paige Turner and the director Streetmosphere guy to entertain us for a few minutes. Then the rope dropped and the crowd hightailed it to Toy Story Mania. I was the 15th person in line, but because of the way they put us in the lines for the trams, the first one on the ride!! My score was 26,700. After that, I grabbed us FPs for later (4 of them-1 using my ticket, and 3 with the GAD card). Then I went to meet the Cars, and got our FPs for Star Tours (the only FP machine operating was for the GAD cards). Next, I headed for the Sorcerer Hat. I got a bunch of Photopass pics-me holding the hat, the balloon shot, stitch, Minnie sitting next to me. I also met a TON of characters today: Lightening McQueen, Mater, Chip & Dale, Pluto, Goofy, Minnie, Daisy, Donald, Stitch, Buzz & Woody! I headed toward the entrance to wait for mom. I sat on the wall outside of Sid Cahuenga's and Honey Darling & her husband were there. I was eating a poptart so they made a fuss about it. Hubby wanted one, and Honey told him no, he couldn't even smell it because he would inhale too many calories. He kept calling me "poptart" after that. He saw my birthday pin and guessed I was 20, I told him 19, and Honey said to hubby"Oh you're on fire today dear!" Then they asked who I was waiting for, and asked where mom was coming from. He asked me if I had a phone, and then told me to go have fun, leave her behind, there's too much to do! It was really entertaining! :rotfl:
Mom finally got there around 10:40, and we headed to the hat to meet more characters. We caught a bit of the HSM3 show. As fans of the franchise, we were disappointed. Then we headed to the backlot to meet Mike & Sulley. No luck. They guy told us one minute they'd be out, which turned into 15. We didn't want to wait for that, so we left and went on the backlot tour. I love the Hannah Montana Chicken Coop!! We grabbed lunch from Studio Catering Co.-a grilled veggie sandwich, apple slices, and a cheesecake. Everything was great. Then we headed back to TSM and rode twice in a row. First time: My score was 41,000, mom's was 57,000. Next time, mine was 54,900 and mom's was 73,000. It was getting really hot and I wasn't feeling too great, so we decided to head to Star Tours and then call it a day. I had the FPs, but we didn't need them-the ride was a walk on! Just as we arrived at the bus stop, so did our bus. Perfect timing! :goodvibes We stopped at BB on the way, and then we were back. We napped for a few hours and will spend the evening by the pool!

Things I had planned on doing, but didn't:
-Indy Jones
-Lights, Motors, Action
-Muppets
-Great Movie Ride
-American Idol

None of which I'm terribly heartbroken we missed.

YAY!! So glad you're having a great trip! We'll be down there on Saturday!!!

Yes, it's been awesome so far! And the weather's been great-it only rained for an hour the first day we got here, and it was overcast Wednesday evening but no rain.

Love the updates! I've only looked at your first facebook album (so far!)...ahhh I miss Kidani!

Kidani is great. We went over to Jambo last night to swim in their pool and we much prefer Kidani; it's more homey and calm, though there are kids here, too. It doesn't seem to be all that full either.

Today we literally shopped til we dropped. We started off with breakfast at Mara, and when we were done a DTD bus came within 5 minutes. I wanted to start off on West Side, but our driver wasn't very friendly so I didn't want to ask if she'd be stopping at Pleasure Island. We just walked over from Marketplace. DisneyQuest was not fun. We only did the Buzz Lightyear ride (and we didn't get the hang of it until the end) because there were two HUGE groups from schools taking over the place. Then, I lost my sunglasses somewhere so I had to buy new ones, but I like them better than my old ones.

Today We Ate At:
~Candy Cauldron (Chocolate Covered Strawberries)
~Wolfgang Puck Express (Margherita Pizza)
~Earl of Sandwich (The Original 1762 w/ a side of coleslaw)
~Ghirardelli (Very Berry Sundae)
~Goofy's Candy Co. (Me: Pretzel rods dipped in milk chocolate, 1 each dipped in Reese's Pieces, Mini M&Ms, and Butterfinger, then drizzled with white chocolate. Mom: Rice crispy treat dipped in milk, then mini m&ms and drizzled with white chocolate.

We Shopped At:
~The pick-a pearl place (my pearl for my necklace is tiny but cute)
~Magentron (2 Magnets)
~World of Disney (T-shirt for me that has rainbow peace signs and a Mickey outlined in Silver, and dangling Mickey earrings for mom)
~Disney's Days of Christmas
~Design a Tee (We made matching pink shirts with our names, a character design that says Celebrate Today and "Mom & Daughter Dream Vacation 2010 Kidani Village-pics in the links)
~Wonderful World of Memories
~Mickey's Mart (4 for $10-we bought my brother a HSM poster, pens, and book, and a Camp Rock journal)

We also took the boat and looked around Port Orleans. We waited about 25 minutes for a bus back to Kidani, but there were benches under the shelter, plus a breeze/fans were going. It was really hot again today, but I didn't get sunburned. :thumbsup2

Tomorrow is Epcot-World Showcase!

I'm too exhausted to do a real update but here's a rundown. We had lunch at Le Cellier (yummy) and dinner at Kringla Bakeri. We got snacks from the pastry stand, Kaki Gori, and refreshment outposts. We rode Maelstrom and Gran Fiesta Tour, saw Reflections of China, Dragon Legend Acrobats, The American Adventure, Impressions de France, O Canada!, and the British Invasion. I met Mulan, Snow White, Jasmine, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Alice, and Mary Poppins (who covertly revealed to me that she also goes to Geneseo. She said "Oh, I'm, quite familiar with that school. The sunsets are beautiful, aren't they? Perhaps I'll see you in the fall. In the townhouses. Number 13." All in her British Mary Poppins way. :rotfl:) After lunch we got mom a wheelchair because she's got some very nasty blisters that were killing her to walk on. So we took advantage of the wheelchair seating for IllumiNations, which was great (the seating and the show). That's all I've got for now. AK in the morning.

Today was Animal Kingdom. We were at the bus stop around 8:20, and a bus came not long after that. We got through the turnstiles in time to catch a bit of "The Adventure Begins" show. Kilimanjaro Safaris was first on our list so we headed toward Africa. First I grabbed some FPs (which we never ended up using). We saw lots of animals, including lions, and I got some good photos. Next we headed to Kali River Rapids, ponchos in hand. Nobody else in our raft spoke English-they all spoke Spanish. :sad2: What a weenie ride! There was nothing to it and I was a little disappointed. We also saw Flights of Wonder, which was really cool. Next we stopped for a frozen lemonade, which really hit the spot-it was hot today! After our snack we took the Maharajah Jungle Trek, but there weren't many animals out. I got FPs for Everest and then we found a shady bench near Nemo to eat our sandwiches. Around 12:30 we got in line for Nemo, and the wait was inside the theater which I wasn't expecting. I really liked the show, almost better than the movie. I thought the songs were catchy. After that we shopped for a bit, then went to see Festival of the Lion King. What an amazing show! We really wanted to meet Thumper in Camp Minnie Mickey, but he wasn't out. :sad1: Around this time we decided we'd had enough. The park was hot, crowded, the people were very rude and pushy today, and there were so many foreign rude people as well. So mom headed back to Kidani while I rode Everest. I used one FP and once on the single rider line. Believe it or not, the FP line was faster. I waited about 15 minutes for a bus back to the resort and it was packed. We napped for about two hours, then went and had dinner at the pool bar and went for a swim and sat in the hot tub. I'm just finishing this up before heading to bed before a day of fun at MK!

The good news: It's cooler today and not as humid, the people seem to be friendlier, and the park is not too crowded. The bad news: I've been getting a lot of black fly bites and I'm mildly allergic, so they're super itchy. :sad1: Anyway, we had a great morning. I knew there was no way I was getting mom up to be at the rope, but we did make rope drop, arriving at MK around 8:40am. As soon as the rope dropped, I power walked to Space Mountain to get my FPs, and told mom to get to Buzz as quickly as possible. By the time I got over there, she was already waiting. :thumbsup2 It was a walk on, and I scored better than her. We got right back on, with a very short wait. Again, I scored better than Mom. I was amazed! Next, we made our way back to Pooh. Now, here is where RideMax failed me a bit. RideMax told me the wait would be 2 minutes; the posted wait was 20. It was about 10. I was panicking, thinking we wouldn't make it to the Toontown rope drop. But we did! And...we were the second family in line to meet the fairies!! :worship: I got to meet Fawn, Tinker Bell, and Silvermist. They were all very nice and Tinker Bell was especially in character. I wanted to meet Mickey before the wait got too long, so that's where we went next. First, mom took pictures in his house and we only waited about 10 minutes or so to meet him....AND Minnie! Bonus! By the time we were let in, quite a line had built up. Next, we stopped at County Bounty to look for a gift for grandma. We didn't find anything, but I got a princess picture frame. Mom and I decided that we're going to pick a Photopass picture we really like and print one for each of us, then put it in our own frames. Finally, we toured Minnie's house. Next up on the plan was Snow White. Our predicted wait was 8 minutes; posted was 15. It actually was about 8 minutes. I just have to say no wonder I was terrified of that ride as a child. It's really scary! We were a bit behind schedule because we had lingered a bit in Toontown, so we got our FPs for Peter Pan, and looked at it's a small world. The posted wait was 20 minutes, but it was 11:10 and we had lunch ADRs for 11:30, so we went right over to Liberty Tree Tavern. We were the first family in the lobby and after the restaurant opened, the third or so to be seated. Our waitress was Caitlyn from Pennsylvania and she was great. Head over to my dining reviews to read more. We were out in just under an hour. We went back to small world and the wait still said 20 minutes, but we jumped in line. It was only about 10 and the ride itself was less obnoxious than I remembered. It also didn't seem as long. After our happiest cruise that ever sailed we headed for the bus stop and waited 10-15 minutes. We're back at the hotel for a few hours before more fun at MK, plus Spectro and Wishes!

Yeah, I was very excited to find that out. It was even cooler that she never broke character! I'm actually coming back to Geneseo tomorrow and I'm super excited!

Oops, welcome back today!!! I hope her handler didn't hear what she said to you. She could get in trouble for that.

Hey everyone! I'm just putting a general life update here. The OA job is great but it's keeping me so busy I barely have time to breathe. Our two transfer student sessions are over, and tomorrow we begin the first of five first year sessions. Mom definitely got her job and begins training on the 6th of July. If you didn't know, I've started updating the categorized food porn thread over on the restaurant board. I'd wanted to have it done, but there were some technical difficulties with it being locked, and now I just don't have time to work on it. I haven't forgotten about the trip report. I'll be starting it on July 19th or 20th. I have 14-15 pages of bulleted points in a word document so I won't forget to tell you anything. I'm also waiting on it because I want to have the photopass pics before I begin. Most of them turned out really well. I specifically requested the baby Simba photo...and they DIDN'T PUT HIM IN IT!! I even e-mailed Disney and they said he was fixed, but he's not. Oh well, it proves we're good actresses!

On another note, does anybody else have opinions on all the new stuff Disney is doing? My two issues are the "luxury homes" next to the MK and the new "luxury pet resort". Are these really necessary?! Who can afford those houses? ($1.5-8million) Mom thinks they're just favoring the wealthy.

I got the Photopass CD today so I'm starting the trip report. I don't have a group of orientees this last session (tomorrow and Friday) meaning I'll be spending a lot of time in the info desks aka doing nothing for hours at a time over the next few days. Look for some updates soon.
