We are leaving today from 8 days of the deluxe dining plan. Thought I would share the totals. We got a pin for free dining so we just had to pay to upgrade to the deluxe dining which was an additional $512. So basically we paid the 512 for our meals.

I kept all the receipts and they totalled $1560.42 without tips
This does not include the snacks and resort mugs or tips which we paid cash.

I dont know really if i was worth it because if we would have paid out of pocket, we wouldnt have gotten appetizers or desserts. Also we would not have eaten at some of the places we did just to fill in TS's.
Plus, we were not hungry by no means for the meals. Way too much food.

We did the Deluxe Plan for a weekend (2 nights/3 days) and we spent it all but were absolutely stuffed, to the point where we considered not showing for our Le Cellier reservations! We won't do it again unless we book an adults-only weekend and do the signature/2 TS restaurants.

You could have used your Deluxe Dining Plan to purchase those resort mugs. It's included in the price. :confused3

You guys will have to back me up when I post telling people that Deluxe is too much food unless you are going to a lot of Signatures or Dinner shows.

I have been raked over the coals by people saying how dare I say that while praising how wonderful it is.

I also try to tell them it will take a lot of time for travelling to reservations, WAITING, and dining. Last time I was told I am a 'poor planner' if any meal takes more than an hour. Well, I've been there 35 times and not sure how a slow kitchen, server, or lobby wait has anything to do with my planning...but oh well.

Nobody will listen to me.

I just went on the basic free dining and my Dad was complaining that we had too many meals to go to!..lol.

Consider yourself backed up :thumbsup2 if the MAIN reason you are going to WDW is to eat, then fill your boots with DXDDP. For us the regular dining plan is more than enough, both in terms of food and time.

I have crunched the numbers over and over again, and discovered that the basic DDP is still best for our family and is plenty of food. Even with paying OOP for a few character breakfasts (and if we decide to get an appetizer at an a la carte restaurant, which probably won't happen anyway) on our 10-night trip in July, we will spend WAY less money in total than we would for the deluxe plan. We also couldn't even begin to think of what we would do with 80 snacks (4 people on the plan for 10 nights). 40 snacks will be a lot, but we really do it for the meals and I don't even calculate snacks into the numbers when I figure out if the basic DDP will save us money...I only count in meals.

I think the only way we would do the deluxe plan is if we really planned to eat at lots of signature restaurants and go to dinner shows. But I wouldn't get it and then purposely go to signatures just to use up the credits. My kids are little and while they could probably handle a signature one or 2 nights, I don't think it is fair to them to eat at all signatures...I think they will enjoy the louder, more fun places like character meals and Whispering Canyon.

I am not a fan of the dining plans

However, we did do the DXDP for 2 nights in September. We were at AKV 2 nights before moving to BCV.

We did Boma Breakfast, Y&Y lunch, Narcoossee and Flying Fish for dinner. We had some great meals. Saying that, there is no weay on God's Green earth we could eat 3 course meals for a week! :rotfl:

We have the DXDDP for our trip next month, but we are spreading 3 nigths worth of credits over 3 days, and doing CP, so I hope we will think it was worth it.

Rule #1 for the DxDP: don't eat everything on the plate!!!!

The portions are all far larger than necessary, so of course if you try to eat all of it you will be stuffed and not want to eat at your next meal! If you eat just a normal serving size amount of what they bring out to you then it is perfectly possible to eat - and enjoy - three TS per day if necessary (though we still prefer not doing three TS in a single day just for time's sake).

We're doing dxddp - mostly because my son is 9, and I didn't think that ddp (kids) would be enough for him.
My mom is still trying to figure out what food we should bring with us. I'm trying to tell her that we have 88 snacks to spend, plus 66 adult desserts. and she's worried about having some treats to nosh on at night.
Oh, and since we have the Planet Hollywood food certificate, she's bent on using that, too.
It should be interesting...

I LOVE the Deluxe Dining Plan!!!:cool1:

We use our dinners as down time. Instead of traveling back and forth to the hotel to rest. Sitting down at a nice dinner to relax is just the ticket for us. That way we don't have to leave the parks. We do a some QS lunches and breakfast but all our dinners are TS. Can't wait til Sept 2010 to dine again!

We did the DxDP last summer. I enjoyed it and would do it again - specifically to dine at Signature restaurants for dinner. But, we're staying concierge this summer, so we're going with the DDP. I'm still booking 2 signature restaurants (CRT and Narcoosee's), and I'm prepared to pay OOP for a couple of QS places. Plus we'll have the lounge from concierge for most breakfasts (I am only planning one character breakfast at Tusker House).

I hope I don't miss the DxDP....but then again, there's always another trip to be planned!

I think that the deluxe plan works much better for shorter stays than longer stays. We are arriving tomorrow We are there for four full days and three nights, spreading 3 days worth of TS over 4 days and doing one signature meal. I made my ADR's, then calculated the cost of the meals to the penny, and found that we would save about $300 with the deluxe plan. Fingers crossed--we will see if its too much dining!!
