Lily- I'm shocked by what you had to contend with at the start of the race. Good for you for sticking to your guns.
If people are interested, my video highlights of the Wine&Dine course have been posted on the blog. You can find it at the link below.

Feel free to add your comments and feedback to the blog. I'll be forwarding it on to runDisney too.

I am late commenting since I spent the whole week down there. I loved the race, and have very few complaints. I finished 74th overall, so I did not experience the crowd issues: getting the medals, bags, etc. The course was very flat, especially compared to what I face in my training. I cannot run anywhere around here without encountering some nice hills. So running the course at Disney was really nice. My only complaint was the post race party. It was just too crowded. They should not sell so many tickets to it. I was in corral A, but I do think a wave start would have helped those in the other corrals.
Overall, I am very happy with the race. More than likely, I will do it again next year.
Congrats to all those who ran and finished the race.
Congrats on such a great finish!!! I am glad you had a great time

And while I may be a woman, I've never had children. But I have run two full marathons before this half. And when I got to mile 23 in each one of those, I swore I'd never run another one again. I think long distance racing is like child birth (again, hope I'm not speaking without much authority or experience). Once you get through it and survive it, you forget a lot of the pain, but remember a lot of the joy in the process and the event. THAT'S why you're thinking of running another one. JMHO...
This seems so true :goodvibes I swore during this half marathon that I would never do that distance again...yesterday I was plotting how I could do more halfs and eventually a full :rotfl:

I just found the time today to finish reading everyone's comments and experiences at the race and will now share mine.
Check-in: I thought this was very well organized!!!! Wish I could have exchanged my S shirt for an XS but it's okay to wear to run in.
Expo: It wasn't as big as I expected. We did buy the ifitness bags and love them!!!! Was a little disappointed in the Disney race merchandise. My daughter and I each bought one of the red "Eat, Drink, Run" t-shirts. They aren't children's sizes but they do run small.
Pre-Race: We beat the rush at the BW for the buses and only had to wait a few minutes but by the time our bus pulled away there were lots and lots of people waiting. Rode the bus with DisneyBride '03. :wave2: Diana!!!! There were lots of porta potties so the wait wasn't long there. The line for the bag check was horrendous! We walked and walked and walked to find the end...didn't want to be accused of line cutting :rotfl: and then noticed that there were 2 or 3 branches of the same line. Headed to the corrals as soon as they opened. DD was in A and I was in B. She stayed across the fence by me until A was filled almost to the grassy area and then she went on. I met disneygirlinnj and DisneylandForever in Corral B. :goodvibes
Race: Loved the fireworks at the start. They really pumped me up. It only took about 1:30 minutes to get to the starting line. Although there were a lot of people, I felt like I had plenty of room to get around when I needed to. The only area I felt had really bad lighting was at Lake Buena Vista Drive. It was too dark for too long of a stretch. Running through AK was fun. DHS was neat too...especially the Osborne lights and seeing ourselves on the big tv screen at Lights Motor Action. Wished we could have ran down the main street at DHS as we were exiting. Once I left DHS, I was on familiar territory as we stay at BCV often and have ran that way many times. I really pushed myself that last mile. DH was at BC to cheer me on and that gave me an extra spark too! I finished in 2:14:42 which was 6 minutes faster than my last half-marathon 5 years ago so I was very happy. This was DD's first half-marathon and she ran it in 1:53:51. She was happy as she wanted to run it in less than 9 minute miles which she did. We both enjoyed every minute of the race and felt good the whole time. I am a night person so I loved the late start time. I hope I enjoy the early start at the January half just as much. :rolleyes1
After Race: I was amazed that we didn't have any place to really cool down afterwards before being "herded" to get our drinks, food, medals, pictures taken, and then pick up our bags. I had to wait a couple of minutes to get my picture taken and then hit a long line to get my bag. The guy finding the bags for the line next to me found 4-5 bags before the lady for my line could find mine. By then, I was starting to cramp up and get a little queasy. I had been drinking my water but couldn't get my Powerade opened as my hands were too sweaty. Once I got outside and stretched and walked around and DH opened my Powerade I felt better. DD ate her banana too soon and got sick to her stomach. About an hour after the race, we felt ready to use our "wine and dine" vouchers, but the lines were WAY TOO LONG. DH did use his beverage voucher and both of ours but we gave away our food vouchers to a couple in line at the France kiosk on our way to the International Gateway. Headed back to the hot tub at BCV where we relaxed and soaked our tired muscles. Slept good until about 8 a.m.
Overall, my DD and I both had a great time running a race at Disney!!!!! I will be doing the half in January at Disney with my DH. At that race though, I will be going at his pace because we want to share the experience together.
THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THE TRAINING TIPS AND SUPPORT PRIOR TO THE RACE!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE THAT FINISHED!!!!!! :cheer2:

Lily, As someone who has a constant fear of being DLF or DNF (and occasionally has been right on the verge of both) - CONGRATS to you and your husband!
The race instructions explicitly said that if the first relay runner couldn't keep the pace and got picked up, the second relay runner would be told they could start the race. So it *never* should have gotten to a point where you were about to be swept as you started. It must be because your DH was so close to the right time/pace - if he had been just a little bit slower sooner, they would have picked him up and let you go. So congrats to you both for fighting and making it!!!!!
I would write to the race directors about your issue, just so they know for next year. Even though Disney sounds stern about their pace requirements, they always allow a little bit of a buffer for people that are *very close*. (Since that's usually me, I applaud this decision :cheer2:)
But if they're going to have a relay option, they need to provide MORE of a buffer around the relay check point for this situation. What if you couldn't do that first 12 minute mile, and instead (like me) were exactly a 16 minute miler? You almost definitely would have gotten swept in the first mile, which is completely unfair if you're keeping the pace. I don't think they really planned out the relay logistics well enough, so I hope they hear about these kinds of situations!

I'm a bit late with my 2 cents on the race, but I just got home late Saturday. This was my first half marathon, so I didn't really have anything to compare it to, but I really enjoyed the race alot.
I'm definitely a back of the packer, so I tried my best to get a decent spot in corral D, knowing I'd need as much help as possible. I got separated from my friend fairly early on. The first mile or two were pretty crowded. I tried to stay as far to the right as possible, but still felt like I was getting in the way of faster runners. I got passed a few times on the right by people running through the grass. Knowing I'd be slow I didn't take the time to stop for any potty or picture stops, which ended up being a good thing.
I felt like I was doing really well until around the 6th mile. That's when I became aware that the group behind me was diminishing because the sweepers were picking them up. My friend texted me when I was between the 6th and 7th mile that she had been swept at mile 5. All my attention was focused on trying my best to speed up as much as possible, but I was feeling more and more exhausted. The guys on bikes kept coming around giving us updates about how far we were ahead of pace.
I really started to feel awful after they gave out the Clif Blocks. I had been training with them, but not with the flavor they were giving out. I took a few of them, and was suddenly feeling awfully sick, and about the same time I realized I had a tiny pebble under the ball of my right foot. Just before mile 9 the bike guys were telling us we had 30 seconds to make it to the marker or we'd be swept. There were a couple of busses waiting right there.
I was so torn. I'd trained so hard, but at that moment I felt horrible, and was almost wishing that I'd be swept. I didn't want to go down easily, so I tried my best to speed up a bit, and somehow managed to make it to the check point in time. I kept pushing along after that, trying to ignore the pebble in my shoe, and my uncooperative stomach. For the next mile or so part of me was still wishing I'd be swept, but then the closer I came to the finish line, the more I would have hurt anyone who tried to pull me off of the course. :rotfl: No lie.
Midway through DHS I started getting a bit of a second wind. The rest of the back of the packers going through there with me were wonderful. We'd give each other little grins to keep going. Most of the characters were gone by that point, the only one I saw in DHS was Darth Vader right near the end. The Osborne Lights were a wonderful surprise and really helped boost my spirits.
By the time we were exiting DHS I was feeling a bit energized, and actually started passing a few people. There was a mother and daughter pair near the end I thought were amazing. The mother was probably in her 70's and was doing the race on her daughters arm. A few yards out from the finish line passed one poor woman telling her friend that she didn't care how close the finish line was she couldn't go any further. I hope she finished. Right before the finish line I dredged up a bit more energy and ran the last few yards over the finish line, smiling a big grin for the camera guy.
After that I was handed my bag of food, and a bottle of water. All I was thinking was that if I didn't get a medal because I was a bit over pace I was going to collapse and start crying. Luckily I turned the corner, and there was a wonderful man waiting there to put a medal around my neck. I don't know when I've been prouder about something I've completed.
Luckily, since I was at the back of the pack, bag pickup wasn't too bad. I only had to wait a few minutes to get my bag and before I knew it I was exiting into the park. I was shocked at how crowded it was. I don't think I ever really fully realized how few benches there were at Epcot. The park was more crowded than I had ever seen it before. I hobbled over to the area by the Off-Kilter stage to change my shoes, which was probably a mistake. The blister that had formed due to that pebble hurt much more once I put on my textured sole crocs. I limped off to find my friend, who was looking like she was in much worse shape than me. My stomach was too upset to really eat anything so I pretty much just drank my water and ate about half the banana in my bag. By the time I went up to get a real drink it was last call.
I was feeling much better after sitting for a little while, and didn't find the walk back to the Beach Club all that bad. My friend on the other hand was a mess for a good portion of the rest of the trip. I had a hard time falling asleep that night. My legs were a bit achy, and I just couldn't get them comfortable. Finally I did fall asleep, and was out until about noon the next day. We spent the rest of the day chilling around Stormalong Bay until it was time to go to MNSSHP.
All in all I had a good time. Blisters, aches and stomach issues not withstanding. That night I was thinking I'd never do this again, but I'm having second thoughts already. ;) I definitely want to be faster the next time though. It's way too tense with those people nipping at your heels. :)

Hi Mrs. D,

If U Had Wings - great report! You did it! :woohoo: Sometimes (and most of the time for me) this becomes a mental game. Mind over matter. You became focused on finishing despite the rock in your shoe (been there!) and feeling sickish (been there, too!)
The conditions were tough out there. It was night. It was a little warm and muggy. Most of us weren't used to running/walking that late. But, you did it and you have a medal. A BIG CONGRATULATIONS on your first race! May this be the first of many for you. :thumbsup2
APrunner and Frank - Congrats on your speedy times. You guys are are AWESOME! :worship::worship::worship:

Shannon, speaking of "back of the packers", you were always just a little ahead of me. Everytime I got close to you, I'd holler out at you but then you would take off running. I thought I might be scaring you or something. :teeth: Just kidding. I knew it was you because you had your name on the back of your shirt and something about DISboards. I think you were wearing earbuds and I assumed that you just couldn't hear me.

Congratulations to all of you! I was fortunate enough to have a room at the BC where I could watch the beginning racers coming toward the Finish Line. I was touched by the applause and cheering that you all received from the guests all along the sidewalk.
We had tickets to the Finish Line Party so we could celebrate with Diana (DisneyBride'03) and in retrospect I wish we hadn't bought them. Disney must have had $$ in their eyes when they finally thought they had gotten their act together concerning the sale of those tickets to that party. :(
I think is was Frank (we actually saw you cross the finish line!) who said the tickets should have been limited to the runners and one guest. I think if Disney had limited those tickets in the way they had originally intended the crowds would have been much smaller. As one of the first people to get a ticket to that party I was told that I had to have a code number from "my" runner in order to purchase a ticket. That was not the case as the weeks wore on. From what I could tell, anyone who wanted to purchase a ticket was able to do so. And that is why all you runners who came in after the first groups were either in lines for over and hour or couldn't even use those vouchers you had earned.
Shame on Disney. Their mismanagement of the party was blatantly unfair to the runners. If they can't limit the tickets in a better manner next time then only the runners should be allowed to participate!

Thanks everyone! This was such an accomplishment for me. I felt like I was floating on cloud 9 for the rest of the week. Sadly, I don't think I got to take the time to enjoy it as much as I should have since I felt so badly about my friend being swept. I didn't want to remind her too much that she didn't finish. :sad1:
This was really the first run/walk I'd ever done without my ipod. I had it with me, but at the last minute chose to go without it. I'm so glad I did. Even though I was too scared to stop for any reason, I was able to take in everything around me, and chat with a few other participants as I went along.

I sent an email on the 6th, got an automated response saying I would be contacted within 2 business days and haven't heard back. I don't really expect to hear back but wanted to send the email with my thoughts anyways.

I forgot to mention that my Mom (my travel buddy) was at Epcot prior to park closing and had her ticket to the Finish Line Party. She had to exit the park (as expected) and wait for the park to be cleared before allowed to reenter for the party. In that time that she was waiting she saw CMs announcing to regular guests leaving the park that they could buy a ticket to the Finish Line Party and stay in Epcot until 3am.
My Mom said many people were buying the tickets right there and then asking others waiting why there was a special party - they had no idea there had been a race.
While I have no idea what percentage of people purchased their ticket in this manner it DID NOT help the situation!

Oh, my gosh. This is the first I've heard of this, and that makes me so angry!!!! As others have also mentioned, we left without enjoying the party at all because it was so crowded - and I believe my entrance to that "exclusive" party was more than paid for by my entry fee and the 13.1 miles of sweat I had just put out. Livid.

As others have also mentioned, we left without enjoying the party at all because it was so crowded - and I believe my entrance to that "exclusive" party was more than paid for by my entry fee and the 13.1 miles of sweat I had just put out. Livid.
You are not the first person to mention to me. My traveling companion, Anna told me about while I was queezy in France. I can understand maintaining a certain business model, but sometimes less is more. And I am certain that if we all would have had a wonderful experience, there would be more of a buzz about return participants.

I understand Disney is running a business, but that really makes me angry, I wish it was more "exclusive" like it was advertised as  Also if the party wasnt so packed, both my spectator and I were planning on eating and drinking lots and hopefully purchasing merchandise (we were really looking forward to it) but did not end up spending a dime there.

We didn't really plan to stay too late since we don't drink and wanted to get some sleep before leaving the next day. That makes me really mad though! I would have thought the party would have been open to people that ran the race and their family/friends, not just anyone. The lines were crazy once we cooled down enough to think about food. We stayed long enough to use our vouchers and left. It would have been nice to have some of the country attractions open as well, which might have helped with the crowds. Imagine how amazing Impressions De France would have been. I might have sat in that movie all night if it was open!

I ran the race and my husband and daughter had tickets for the "party" to see me at the finish line. I read this to my husband and he told me that when they were entering the park, there were people at the gate infront of him without tickets wondering what was going on and what the party was for. The turnstile cast members were telling these people they could go buy a ticket to enter at the ticket window. Guess its all about the $$.

Seems like we should express our complaints on that one. I heard on a podcast that Disney only sold 65% of the tickets for the after party. I can't begin to imagine how crowded it would be if they were sold completely.
We didn't even use our vouchers because the lines were just to long so with hubby and my $270 race fee - we didn't get to enjoy the after party.
Not to mention it appears that a LOT of people gave up and didn't use the vouchers. Very disappointing and I will express my displeasure to Disney regarding this.

I know this wouldn't have been a solution for all (because many went home on Sunday), but it would have been nice if, at least, the runners vouchers were valid for the ENTIRE F&W Festival, not just that night. Wouldn't it have been nice to come back (after feeling crummy the night of the race) on Sunday or Monday to use your vouchers? I don't know about you, but after about 10 miles, my whole digestive tract shuts down and I don't feel like eating (much less drinking alcohol) for hours. But maybe this would be a partial solution for next year?

Well that helps explain why I had to buy a hot dog over at the bazaar place then. Last I saw before the race they had sold 65% of the after party tickets as well as all of us runners. If they didn't reach that 100% mark eventually I'd hate to see what that party would have looked like!
I can only hope they correct all this for next years race. What's crazy is I had money to spend and couldn't because of the lines which they still got the money just not mine I guess. :lmao:

They were also selling Party tickets at the expo. Major problems getting the ones we had pre-ordered because the system didn't like the confirmation numbers, but no problem for people walking in the door to purchase a ticket. :confused3

WOW this whole party thing was really a mess. I agree that I wish i could have used the vouchers either the day before or the day after the race. I was in no mood for food/drink or lines post race. Outrageous that they sold tickets to anyone at the gate. I think they need to open some attractions as well as food/wine vendors and stick with it being exclusive to runners and families. Poor decision, Disney.....poor decision.

We should have been able to use the vouchers later- that would've been great. I could barely stand the smell of food after the run, much less eat anything. And the lines...UGH. All I wanted to do was get in bed.
As far as expressing your thoughts to Disney, I agree we should write letters, but here's an interesting note: I do believe Disney reads DisBoards discussions. I shared this w/ some of you @ Boma, but for others, for a very long time when I went to log into my DVC account, **disboards member** appeared in pale gray in the password line. I imagine there are some divisions of the company that read boards, the DIS included. The two I think are most likely are DVC and DCL. I'm not sure if Disney Sports or EMMI (which Jon, the race director, owns) would read here.
If they do I wish they would post to initiate some dialogue. While some places on the board would just turn into accusations and yelling I think most of the runners would be fair in their criticism and keep it all above the belt, just as they have in their reviews.

The advice for mailing post race comments to EMMI is INCORRECT. The post race party would have been out of John’s control. A copy to EMMI would be appropriate but the letter should be addressed to either Disney Sports or Epcot.
Sorry but the proper place for that criticism lies with Disney Sports and with Epcot Management.
EMMI does not create the event nor do they have anything to do with the associated activities. All EMMI is responsible for is running the race. That would include obtaining permits, laying out the course, obtaining proper race supplies, ensuring the lighting was good and living within the budget received from Disney. So if you need to comment about the race course, the lighting, the bib or anything to do with seeding, or organization of the race proper the EMMI address is the correct address.
If you want to vent about the over-sold post race party the address is:
Disney Sports
P.O. Box 10000
Lake Buena Vista
FL 32830
Epcot General Manager

Written mailed in comments are very appropriate and I would encourage anyone who was there to write.

Good point. I have some issues with both and wanted to get it all in one letter. I guess two will work better.
I was always under the impression that the RD would work very closely on all aspects of their race, including after parties like this or the concerts that the Rock N Roll series does. Maybe not plan and run them but have input to things.
I would hope they would act as an advocate for the people paying to run their race and if not plan it directly work with them on making sure the event is good all the way around for the participants. This should start at the registration process, go through the race and expo, and then continue to anything attached to the race, as this party was.
That is my opinion at least.

Disney is very much team on planning and execution.... not so much on sharing complaints. Besides, one really wants to fill as many inboxes as legitimate with a complaint.
You are correct that EMMI, DS, WWos, AK and Epcot folks are a tight knit team. I just think that if one fails to point criticisms to the appropriate party it fails to carry the full impact.
If you think of the relationship between the parties you have three business groups under the WDW umbrella collaborating to hold an event or project for the benefit of the greater good of WDW (The W&D Race Weekend). These business groups do not have all the professional expertise required to execute every step of the project so they engage a consultant to design and execute a portion of the project (the race itself).
That is why I think anything not associated with the execution of the actual race (the parts you would find in the next race at home) EMMI is not the party to focus on. And really since the brand is Disney Sports all criticisms should head to DS first and copy any related party. That’s why a letter discussing the party should be addressed to DS and copy Epcot. A letter discussing the poor lighting should really be addressed to DS and copy EMMI. If one were to write only one letter, copying all would be acceptable, also.
Anyway, those are my thoughts.
Also, I know earlier in the thread there was discussion of whether the mouse is looking at the DIS Board... The simple asnwer is yes. Not every post, not all the time but you can bet they have reviewed this thread by now and have a flavor for how the hard core Disney fan feels about the event.

So just for yucks, I sent a note to runDisney and said as a veteran of Disney races, I was interested in next year's W&D, but that the feedback to this year's race was somewhat negative. I included the link to this thread. Here is the response I got.
Maura,
"Thank you for writing us, we are aware that there are some unhappy
guests from the Wine and Dine Half Marathon. With it being an Inaugural
Event we know there are definitely areas that can be improved upon for
next years race. We will do our best to improve upon all of these areas
and make it a more enjoyable race for all of our runners. Thank you
again for your input and we hope to see you out at the 2nd annual Wine
and Dine Half Marathon next October. Thank you"
Canned, yes; but they would have to be deaf, dumb and blind not to see some of the flaws from this year's race. (Although with their experience from other races, one still must wonder why this one was so bad.)
So I still will put it on my list for next year---of course, I am not making ANY list til after Sunday's marathon. Bad ju-ju.

Well good news - I hope. If anyone is on facebook and a fan of runDisney, they put out a reply to all the comments about the race.
"Dear fans....
As a leader of Disney Sports and a runner myself, I want to thank everyone who came out to participate in our first Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon. We think we have the beginnings of a great event, but I must say we also learned a great deal. There are a number of areas where we have heard from you that need some attention, including bag drop-off and pick-up, the finish line experience, and long lines at the post-race party.
Please know that we've already begun planning the changes to make sure this race is something you will want to come back and do again. My team and I are personally committed to make every runDisney race the best it can be. Thanks for running with us."

Not sure of the band, but there was one solo performer right before AK who is Dominic Gaudios. You can catch him playing at night at DTD. Not sure what nights but he has always been there when I was there, whch was on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday. He reminds me a lot of Keller Williams. I have to agree with all of the prior comments about issues with aspects of the race. However, I want to add a positive note. Every Disney cast member we saw over the weekend was extremely friendly; in fact my DW and I commented that it was almost as though Disney had placed a corporate emphasis on it; it was noticeable compared to our last couple of trips. We were especially happy with all of the positive comments we received from almost every cast member when we wore our race shirts while we toured the day after. It is a fairly small thing for Disney to do, without any cost, but meant a lot to us. It is the kind of thing that makes up for the race issues and makes us want to come back for another race.

I really should have gotten myself involved with this board sooner. I saw several of the DIS WISH shirts floating around before the race and struck up a conversation who was near me towards the front of corral C. She encouraged me to just jump in and write, so here I am. :)
Just yesterday I finally finished writing my race and trip report and posted it to my blog. Just a warning though, it's REALLY long and poorly edited. You might want to use one of the links at the top to skip to the race recap. That is, unless you want to follow the exciting adventures that were trying to find decent quality vegetarian/vegan options at Disney World or you're curious how the park touring went.
I only have six post and I can't include links yet. So I'll just direct you to my blog the old fashioned way. bobowen (dot) org

Hi all.
Can anyone post a picture of the official race pin? I didn't order one and would like to see how it looked.
This was my second Disney race and I really enjoyed it, but I really got beat down by the humidity. Hope to run in January too.
Thanks!

Welcome Bob. Congratulations on your first half. I'll be doing the full in January with you.
Thanks for the welcome and congrats FireDancer. It really was an amazing time and helps me feel that much more confident about the marathon.
I look forward to meeting you and others in Jan.

Yep...along with the comments that went with it. Some very upset people. I can see why...it is an expensive race, and if you bought party tix for your family to top it off - it was a lot of money spent! I trust Disney will work out the kinks...the first step to fixing any problem is admitting you have one - and at least they did that!

THis was my first race, so I really had no clue....I enjoyed myself..I was happy with the end result....but still have my vouchers:(
For me, it was exciting and I felt I was a part of something, especially that I was among athletes! THis Half got me off my a** and back to the gym...nothing else was motivating me at the time, so when they announced it...I figured this would do it!
ALthough I procrastinated awhile...:rolleyes1 I did it and I am still training and looking forward to two 5K's in the next month and the Half in January:upsidedow I think this public announcement was very positive!

It was OK. The day was VERY sunny and warm, and there's not a lot of shade on the course. Also, many of the bands were on break when the mid-to-back of packers passed them (I run a 2:20 HM at the moment).
It was fun running through the streets of Philly, though. I may run the Philadelphia Half next November rather than RnR.

I LOVED this race! It was a bit warm, but I ran in much worse all summer while training. I ran 2:32 and didn't really have that problem with the bands, but I really liked the course. I am doing the other Philly one on November 21 (got in through a charity), so I can give you both a comparison when I am done. I am just afraid this one will be too windy and cold for me! Thanks for the info -- the wine & dine was my first half and I did it in 2:26 so I wouldn't be too happy if that is the case with the bands being on a break! But I would like to run through Philly -- plus DH & I have lots of relatives there that could cheer us on!

I wanted to pass along some information. A lovely young woman from Disney Sports called me today regarding the letter I sent. I didn't race, so my comments were strictly about the Finish Line Party.
She said they are collecting all the feedback they've received and meeting to discuss what they should have/could have done. She admitted some things happened which they had not anticipated (she gave me examples) and assured me that they are working hard to make next years race and party much better. :thumbsup2
I was very impressed with the feedback I got about my feedback ;)!!

While I wasn't told anything in confidence, I don't feel comfortable posting specifics. The examples had to do with what most of us here already know about the way the Epcot CMs handled the Party.
I was impressed that they called me and just wanted to pass that info on to y'all. After the call, I do feel fairly confident that next year's party will be more exclusive to the runners, family and friends (as it was intended to be)! :thumbsup2

I am REALLY glad that the folks at Disney are listening. I'm not sure how they thought that 11,000 runners plus families would fit comfortably in World Showcase, but, I am glad they are listening. I'm sure they don't like the nearly unanimous opinion that the party was a bust. It will be interesting to see what sort of changes they make. :)

We stayed at BCV and used the hot tub about 2 a.m. after we gave up on using our vouchers at the after race party due to the long lines. We weren't the only ones there either. As long as you are quiet, they usually don't mind.

So I just wanted to report back here...I actually ran a race yesterday...a 5K + (3.56 miles)
Considering I walked the Wine& DIne Half, this was huge for me..my finish time was 37:30....better than my 5K split time in the Half, and this was longer!
Just under 11 minute miles:)
So glad I now have 2 more mths til Jan to continue training:)

I Did. I relayed my thoughts and they remain fairly consistent with my origianl feedback. Since then I have also had the opportunity to visit with a couple folks who have the ear of the race management side of the equation. It is clear that the folks in charge of getting runners from a to b are not the ones who decided to oversell the post race party. Discussions have occurred as the party issue has been a recurring theme. My other feedback focussed on course lighting. I already knew what the lighting answer was pre-convsersation. When I was there last month Buena Vista and other roadways were being resurfaced. That project was the 'blame' for the issue on Buena Vista; or so I have been told. Anyway, for mme the Wine and Dine was a Once and Done... At least until the 5 year anniversary.

Count me in as another that received the survey...one of the questions was interesting because they wanted to know what changes you would be for and they gave examples such as moving the time of the race to after 10 but before midnight and having the race end in the EPCOT parking lot...nope, my concerns were with the bag drop and post race overcrowding.

I just completed the survey. All the things they wanted to change. Start later, out and back course, finish in EPCOT parking lot, would just make me less likely to come back.
Otherwiase I think it matched everyone elses, bag check, crowds, and that stupid 0.1 out and back after leaving AK.

I got the survey on Friday and filled it out. I took every opportunity in the write in section to let them know the most important factor in my running the event again or recommending it would be limiting the after party to the runners + 1 only. There were way too many people who just bought tickets to stay.
The move to later in October would also be nice just to have a chance at slightly cooler weather or lower humidity. Regardless, it will be a few years before I plan on running this event again.

My right foot clipped one and the thing did not budge one iota so the result was a hop, hop on my left foot and down to the ground I went with a resulting face plant on the pavement. Bet I could have charged for the entertainment provided to other athletes.

I received the survey this week. It took me a long time to type up all my comments. Some were positive, there was a lot negative. I was a relay participant and they asked me some questions specific to that (which I had a lot to say)!
On the last question they asked if there was anything else I wanted to say; I commented on being disappointed in race merchandise; specifically the lack of women's cut t shirts (or those only being available in Jr. sizes) and the fact that the design on the Wine & Dine pint glass I purchased is almost completely worn off. After only 2 months! :scared1: My Beatles pint glass form the UK Rock Shop is 2 years old and looks ten times better. I told them I would have called to ask for a replacement but I would assume the replacement would be the same low quality. It's the one thing I have from the race that I use frequently and I get bummed each time I grab it.

In 2010, the first runner did 4.8 miles and the second one did 8.3 miles. I understand they are going to change the finish portion so they may have to tweak the mileage a little bit.

I plan to but not this year.
Love the descriptor of your avatar! That had nothing to do with my figure skater question this fall, did it? Lol!

No, I was dispelling rumors that it was Tinkerbell related.
Are you doing the W&D again in 2011?

It's looking like we may be taking a short June trip for SWW.
I'm hoping for the 2012 Princess unless someone has a free airline ticket and can put me up for either the Princess or W&D this year. ;)

I didn't think so, but now I'm not so sure....I could probably be talked into it.
I'm in the lottery for the NYC Full, so I'll probably wait to see what happens with that one!
I really want to do this race but I'm not certain whether to have my hubby bring the kids (DD10 and DD8) to the after party or whether I should arrange some type of childcare?
How did it go to have your young children at the finish line so late that night? To further complicate things, they really want to run the 5k that morning with me.

I have a college sophomore. He was at the finish line party with a friend and had a blast. I would not have wanted him there at that age. It was crowded the lines were really long. And I think he would have been bored at that age. There was just not much to do except eat, drink and listen to music.
Having said that, there are plans to change things for this year. So you might want to wait and see what's going to be open. It will make for a REALLY long day for them. Do they get cranky when they are tired?

They usually outlast us when at Disney but crankiness is a possibility if the day starts too early. I'm going to tell them that they can run the Mickey Mile instead of the 5k so that we can save a bit of money and start the day a bit later. Perhaps I'll get lucky and a relative will want to come along to babysit!
