does anyone know if you can choose the Prefix 3 course meal from the menu if you are on the dining plan? Trying to do a pre-plan.

I have read here that you can use DDP credits for the 3 course meal but there are no substitutions allowed.

The 3 course meals come with a lesser value entree and I think also dessert, so they allow the App. but you have to stick with certain entrees and not substitute.

The point of the three course menus at Chefs de France, Le Cellier and Captain's Grill are specifically to encourage basic dining plan users to go for the cheaper entrees - if you are okay with sticking with the fixed price menu, and stay away from the higher-end entrees, they'll throw in an appetizer.

If you like the items presented on the prix fix menu, that's great - stick to them and you get an appetizer. If you prefer a more expensive entree, you are much better off getting the expensive entree and paying OOP for an appetizer if you want one.

The only real caveat is that no substitutions will be allowed - from all reports, you must take the fixed price items as they are listed and served - you won't even be allowed to substitute the side dishes. (Some variance will probably be permitted for medical conditions and should be checked with Disney special diets.)

If anyone needs any proof that these three fixed price menus are designed with dining plan users in mind, note that if you go to Le Cellier and order the same items paid out of pocket, if you choose the gnocchi or chicken entrees you will actually pay more for your fixed price meal than you would if you ordered the exact same three items a la carte from the regular menu. There doesn't seem to be any reason for anyone who is not on the dining plan to choose those particular options from the fixed price menu.
