Doesn't seem like anyone has started a thread yet for this five night sailing, so i'll go ahead. This will be our 13th Disney Cruise; hope it's lucky! Sailing to celebrate my daughter's high school graduation and get a chance to go on this new ship!
Anyone else joining us yet?

We're in!!! Yes, finally returning to DCL:cloud9:
This will be our 5th DCL. We've done two 3 nights and an Eastern and a double dip Western. :grouphug:
One of our recent cruises was on the Crown Princess......gotta say I loved it just as much as DCL. We had an awesome group. :woohoo: and 9 nights. Adult areas were adult like DCL.
Last cruise was on NCL....it was good, but I don't think we'll cruise it again. There were no adult areas really. Kids in the bars till late and salt water pools. :sad2:
So we've been waiting for one of the new ships and saving those Disney Dollars!!:yay:
Cruise list: Ages of kids will be at the time of cruise. Please correct me if I'm wrong with any info.

Sky and Irish,
You seem to have a number of 7 nights under your cruising belt. What brings you back to the 5 night? popcorn:: Is it the draw of the Dream?
It is for us. 5 nights will be way too short, but 2 stops at CC are awesome!
I so missed my smilies....:cheer2:
My last DCL cruise report had so many smilies I had to keep posting short excerpts because I had gone over my smilie limit per post!!!:scared1:

You'll find that I like to post alot when it comes to cruise meet boards. ;)
We are so looking forward to Serenity Bay. It has been my happy place for years. :hippie:
How is the menu that Serenity Bay? Last time on the 2nd stop at CC we had t-bones and lobster....:woohoo:
My husband did the catamaran sail and snorkel last time and said it was good. Has anyone done this recently?
I've been looking into the Nassau day. :surfweb: Yes, I'm an over achiever when it comes to planning vacations. I was thinking about doing a day pass at Wyndham or the Sheraton.
I have a goal to try to keep our cost as close as I can to my disney rewards dollars to pay for the entire cruise.:rolleyes1 We'll see!

Well my dh and I are empty nesters this year, so while we've always taken our son, he'll be 20 and hopefully doing a co-op. The sooner he gets out of college the sooner HE gets to take us on a cruise!!:rotfl2::yay:
Btw, even though I said empty nesters.....we're very young ones somewhere in the mid 40's. :rolleyes1
I'm sure any questions asked can be answered by someone going on this cruise as it seems there have been a number of cruises taken. We missed the Gold CC membership by 1 cruise. Well this one will bring us up to 5 so we'll have to cruise again!!!:dance3:

Hello, everyone, and Happy New Year!
I'm delighted some more folks have joined us! There will probably still be some lulls in list traffic, but I'm sure it will keep growing and be REALLY busy this time next year!
We picked the longest Dream cruise we could go on...my DH and I tend to take the 7 day cruises on our own, and take the kids (well, teens, now) on the shorter ones so we can combine it with 3 or 4 days at WDW. We did take them on a 7 day cruise on the Norwegian Pearl to Alaska last summer...fabulous!
I was wondering about the Pirate party and costumes being carried over to the Dream...I sure hope so, as our entire family has tons of pirate gear and loves to dress up! DH and I also enjoy trotting out the formalwear...not sure if there will be a formal night on the 5 night Dream, but that's no matter...we'll be at Palo in tux and gown and black gloves regardless. Where else can you wear that stuff? We never miss the opportunity! On one of our earlier Western Magic cruises we got together with a bunch of other Disboarders that wanted to dress up-took great pictures in the atrium with dashing looking middle-aged guys and "seasoned" ladies sporting tiaras! We did our own all grown up princess thing ;-)
I am interested to see what the updates to Castaway Cay end up looking like, and if they change to flavor of the island. We'll be there next in July and November of this year. I figured they couldn't add all those extra passengers on the Dream without changing something.
So welcome again, everyone! I know it seems far away, but if you look at the final payment date 3 months before, it appears closer!

I would imagine there is a Pirate night since there is one on the 3 night.
There will be the 5 nights this summer, so that will give us a good idea how the activities will fall.
We probably won't get too dressed up for the formal night. When we did the 3 night, most people dressed up the night that they went to Tritons (or is it the other "fancy" restaurant. You can tell I haven't cruised in a while on DCL, I forgotten all the details. I generally wear nice dresses every night to dinner with dressy sandals. DH usually wears khakis with a shirt and tie and then he brings a jacket for the more formal nights.
We have the 6pm dinner seating. We picked it because we are always so hungry by then even though we can snack before. I want to save my appetite for dinner! But on second thought, that would give us more time before dinner on port days. Hmmmmm....decisions decisions.
When it comes to CC, the only thing that concerns me is Serenity Bay!! Oh yeah baby!! We will probably do the catamaran snorkel the one day and then just chill at Serenity Bay the other. We haven't ventured to the family beach or cookies since our 3 nights. We do like to start early to snorkel at the lagoon before we head to SB. We might have to check out the new family water area though.....and then head to heaven......

Hello there! We are super excited to be sailing on the Disney Dream in 2011! It's DH, me, DS (who will be 11 at time of sailing) and DD (who will be almost ( at the time of sailing). We've been on 2 DCL sailings previously - both on board the Disney Magic. Our first cruise was December 2007, and then we did the Christmas sailing in 2008. We absolutely love the DCL!! We can't wait to go back, but wanted to save those Disney dollars for one of the new cruise ships :goodvibes
We've also been to WDW several times, and are planning a huge family trip for this upcoming fall with my sister and her family, my brother and his family, as well as some close family friends! My sister and brother have been to WDW before (we went when we were teens), but they both have young children and spouses who have never been - so it's gonna be great! DH and I love the way you are treated at WDW and especially on board the DCL. DS (who is 9 now) and DD (who is 7 now) love the thrill rides and the FUN!
If there are any other DC (Disney Children) who would like a pen pal, both DS and DD would love it (well, at least DD would :lmao:)
I look forward to chatting & getting to know all of our fellow sailors!!

Welcome, Robin
We have two teenagers...my son will be 15 at the time of the cruise and my daughter will be 18. In fact, this cruise is to celebrate her high school graduation.
Maybe other folks have kids closer to your children's ages. Anyone?

Travelling with us with be MIL and FIL, me and DH and three kiddos, and BIL and SIL and their two kiddos. While they have all cruised, it will be FIL, MIL, BIL, SIL first cruise with Disney.

On past cruise meets we have posted the disers and family members to keep track of everyone. I started one on #4 on page 1 so that it would be easy to find. I'm sure this thread will have a ton of people by cruise time.
If anyone does not want their information on this list, pleas let me know and I'll take it off. Or if I have any info wrong or that you would like me to add.

We're in!
My mom & I are surprising my dad for father's day (2 days before) with this cruise. :goodvibes
I haven't officially booked it yet, as I'm waiting to book it while onboard the magic this Sept. Gotta sneak away & book it while my mom keeps my dad busy. :rolleyes1
As of now, it will just be my parents (early 60s) & myself (mid 20s).
This will be my 5th disney cruise. I have cruised a 3, 4 & 7 day with DCL & am about to sail the 14 day WB Transatlantic this Sept.
I have also sailed with NCL & Princess. I don't have a favorite, as they all have their positives & negatives, but anything Disney has a special place in my heart. :lovestruc

DH and I are booked on this cruise as the first cruise in our b2b on the Dream!!!! We are very excited!!! These cruises will be our 7th and 8th DCL cruise, we've done a 4 day on the Wonder, 2 Eastern Caribbean and 1 Western Caribbean on the Magic, a Panama Canal Crossing on the Magic and we have another Western Caribbean in November. We were supposed to be going on the Baltic Capitals cruise this coming June, but the airfare turned out to be prohibitive and we are also expecting our third grandchild this summer, so we decided to stay closer to home. Our grandchildren have had an alarming habit of being born early!
I look forward to talking to you all!

We've been on Magic once, Wonder once, and NCL a couple of times. We're looking forward to exploring the new ship, getting back to CC and hopefully seeing Navardo, the Sand Castle master.

We just got back from our first Disney cruise, a 7 day Western on the Magic. Loved every minute! So we booked the longest cruise available on the Dream. Look forward to meeting you all. It will be me, my husband, and our 2 sons who will be 9 and 4 at the time of the cruise. We did the fish extender gift exchange and my boys loved finding the little treats when we came back to our room. Hope we can do that on this cruise!

Hello fellow Dreamers!
This will be our second DCL cruise. The first was in late April 2008 - 4 night on the Wonder, and we can't wait to get back onboard. We were planning a 7-night Eastern, but couldn't pass up the new ship. Wish it were longer, sigh....
DS will be 9 at the time of the cruise. My DH (39) and I (39) will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary on 6/22, and also pre-celebrating our big 4-0 birthdays that will be soon after the cruise.
Didn't really participate much with the DIS group last time, since it was all so new to us, but this looks like it will be fun to pre-plan our trip together as more details on the ship are released in the months to come.
Looking forward to sailing with you!:flower3:

i have to say that I think the cruise meet boards really do add to the excitement of the cruise. on our cruise this past march, we only did one initial meet, but I have to say that the FE exchange really brightened each day -- every day! The kids and DH and I loved coming back to notes and surprises - and we did see people all around the ship from our meet and our online boards.
skylynx
04-15-2010, 09:45 AM
DIS meets really do enhance the experience, even on a shorter cruise. With thousands of people on the ship, I'm always amazed how many people we bump into here and there that we met at the Dis gathering. Wish DCL did what NCL does...I arranged for our Cruise Critic group meet on the Norwegian Pearl to Alaska last summer. NCL provides (no charge) a private room with refreshments and an officer visit for the meet and greet. Really nice.

Hi, Everyone
Our family went to a DVC member event in the Chicago 'burbs over the weekend. DVC is giving away Dream cruises as purchase incentives, so the event was heavily focused on the new ship. They even had an operating model of the video porthole that will be in the inside cabins. It was so cool...had everyone mesmerized watching it. The starfish from Finding Nemo was on it, plus the house and balloon from Up would occasionally go sailing by, Flounder jumps out of the water, etc. I heard one of the DVC cast members say they'd been told by DCL some folks with inside staterooms had turned down upgrades because they wanted to experience the video porthole! Not sure I'd go that far, but the porthole was something to behold.
The other neat thing we learned about is that in certain places around the ship, and particularly in the atrium, there will be "enchanted art," which will be pictures framed on the wall that sense your presence and will interact with you. For example, one was a picture that looked like an old black and white photo of Walt and Mrs. D that occasionally would have a cartoon Donald Duck fly past them on a magic carpet (a' la The Rivers of Time ride in Mexico). My favorite was a painting of the bay at Neverland, and there was some way you could steer one of the ships in the painting around by waving. Kind of like a Wii, I guess. With all the talk about the new restaurants and the Aquaduck, it's exciting to know there will be other, less obvious bits of Disney magic to discover!

Welcome, Miztigg. Plenty of room for more DCL addicts on this cruise. Rebooking on board is, as far as I can tell from my own experience, the ONLY real antidote to the end-of-cruise blues. That way, when you haul your luggage out under the "see you real soon" sign while disembarking, you'll know that saying is true, and not be so depressed!
Happy to have you with us.

We just switched from the 6/12 to 6/21 cruise so other family members could join us. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!! This would be our 4th cruise (1 Celebrity and 2 DCL before - both on the Magic) I am hoping to combine it with some time at the World, since it is just a 5 night. We couldn't resist checking out the new ship. We are used to the 7 night and are hoping to extend the pixie dust longer that just the cruise. We are on our way home now from our 5-day Double Dip on the Wonder (June 13-18). We booked this cruise because of our kiddos. My hubby and I wanted a 7-day cruise, but our kiddos loved our server so much and wanted to be on the same cruise he would sail on. Not to mention, the 7-day cruises wouldn't be the Dream.
We had a Pirate Party during our cruise. We had a *dressy* night also.
The magic art on the Dream will be like Magic Quest at Great Wolf Lodge. From what we were told, a Disney villan has stollen something. The kiddos use their *key to the world* and the art will give the kiddos a clue to the next piece of art to find the stollen object and what villan stole it. Also, each object will change to something different.
It will be myself, hubby and boy/girl twins (8).

Wow - one year from today, we'll be at Universal (shhhh) waiting to cruise the next day!:dance3:

Add us to the list! We just surprised my inlaws by telling them yesterday that the whole family is taking them on this cruise for their 45th anniversary!
In our group will be:
Me, my husband, and my daughters (now 7 and 9)
My inlaws
My BIL, SIL, niece (now 1) and nephew (now 4)
My BIL
My husband's aunt
My family has been on 4 DCLs and my husband and I will be doing a 4 night Wonder in September by ourselves.
We're planning on doing Universal the weekend before the cruise to see Wizarding World of Harry Potter and then staying with most of the family in the treehouses at Saratoga Springs the night before the cruise.
I can't believe it's a year out and I am already starting the research obsession!!

I know we are a year away from our cruise. We just participated in our first FE exchange on our first 5-day cruise June 13. The *keeper of the list* initially set a cutoff date for participation, which was about 6 weeks before the date of sail. This allowed the participants enough time to plan, purchase and prepare their FE gifts. Everybody sent the following information in a PM:
DisBoard Name
E-mail Address (for spreadsheet)
Names of Adults
Names/Ages of Kids
Stateroom No.
Location
He would list the following information and update a particular post so everyone could keep track. The new participants would be added in bold:
DisBoard Name
Jack (Adult)
Jill (Adult)
Billy (10)
Betty (6)
After the deadline, he emailed the Excel spreadsheet out to the participants that included the above information (including the staterooms). On Day 1 of our cruise, we all met and introduced ourselves.
Just thought I would share an idea.

I was the keeper of the list for my last cruise - it worked very well. I would be happy to keep that list for this group. Did we ever agree on a name for our Motley Cruise?
How about we make the deadline for participation at the 75 day mark prior to the cruise?
Please feel free to send the following information to me via pm:

E-mail Address (for spreadsheet):
Names of Adults:
Family Name:
Names/Ages/(M/F) of Kids:
Stateroom No.
Cell Phone (in case of ship delay)

Thanks so much Rani!! We love doing the FE thing and it is always well worth all the preparation.....always great to spread a little pixie dust! pixiedust:
One thing that was done on prior cruises was either to have a designated spot for a DIS board meet at the sail away party, and distribute any updates to the FE listing info, or have the keeper of the list put any changes/updates to cabin info on their door. We had a lot of changes at the last minute, especially with upgrades at port, etc. How about 60 days out for the FE deadline?

I'll send out the last update of the list info no later than June 18, 2011. How about we meet in the Promenade lounge at 3 pm - bring your lists in case there are any changes and we can update each other at the meet. I wonder if there is a way to leave a final copy at the guest Services desk in case anyone needs it as a reference.

Add 3 more in for the sailing!
Myself, DH and DD 8 are very excited to be going on the new ship!! We have sailed the Magic twice and absolutely loved it. I even splurged for the verandah which we have never done. I hear that I'm in trouble because once you have one, you never want to cruise without it again!!

Welcome, Hollybud. You're probably right that you'll be verandah-addicted after this cruise. DH and I spend LOTS of time out on our verandah...it's one of the things we look forward most to on our cruises. If you are early birds like us, consider having room service bring coffee and a croissant to share out on your balcony in the morning before going to the "real" breakfast a bit later. We also love to have a glass of wine on our verandah before heading down to dinner, and we sit out there at night just listening to the waves rush by. You are in for a real treat!

I'll tell you why i like the idea of a private FB group. Two years ago my meet group was absolutely amazing -- you seriously couldn't keep up with the posts because we were constantly posting, getting to know each other -- to the point where we actually felt we'd known each other for years by the time the ship sailed. About a month before the cruise date, a bunch of lurkers came out of the shadows - not people who had just booked the cruise or found the board - but people who literally said they'd been reading our posts from page one and felt like they knew us. yet, we knew NOTHING about them. It was creepy. A couple contacted a bunch of us privately and we felt stalked.
Maybe it was internet naivity, but these are public boards and anyone can read and never chime in....which either makes you vulnerable or less likely to share. The private FB group is great because it puts names to faces and allows only people who are supposed to be there to get to know one another. Just my $ .16.

Hi, dlander...we're celebrating our DD's high school graduation, too. I found a Disboards thread where you can print off a Mickey Mouse ear graduation cap to stick over your stateroom door number. Let me know if you are interested in making one for your daughter and I'll dig out the link to that thread.
It would be nice for your DD and mine to get to meet! We just got off a four day on Wonder this past Tuesday, and the kids (DD17 and DS14) are already sad about how long it is until their next one! The kids just completed their 5th DCL cruise; it was the 11th for DH and me. Plus one Norwegian Pearl cruise for all of us to Alaska last summer.
Looking forward to meeting you!

Skylynx- I would love for the girls to meet up! And I definitely like the graduation cap idea. We have been on 2 Disney cruises and our DD has been on 3. Grandma took her last summer for her 16th Bday. DD loves cruising and meeting new friends. She has friends all over the country that she has kept in contact with and even visited with. On our second Disney cruise 5 years ago, DD met a girl on the Dis and they were inseperable on the ship! They have maintained that friendship and she comes down from Washington every year to go to Disneyland and even surprised DD on her 16th birthday last year. I love the Dis boards:love:

I am jealous! I'm hoping we'll be able to go on the Fantasy in 2012 - but my sub jobs will have to pick up for that. I'm kind of frustrated to hear that the deposit policy changed. For five of us, $250 each was much more feasible than putting down half of the total cruise bill - around $7,xxx - our deposit goes from $1K - to over $3K......not good.:headache:

I booked the "double dip" on the Wonder last weekend...can you belive my first DCL cruise was without my kids?!:rotfl: They weren't too happy about that, but it was a girls only weekend getaway. The price was too good to pass up, so I booked this one for us next June. Travelling will be me, DH, Marissa(18), Savannah(14) and Rebecca(6). We're all experienced cruisers, but this will be our first as a family with DCL...the girls are more than excited. I look forward to meeting you all as the weeks pass. I'll try to get on FB later today and join that too, but will admit I'm more often here than there. And Cruise Critic too, though I didnt see a roll call there for this cruise.
Have a great day everyone!

I thought it was 20% down ??? and if you rebook on board it was 10 % down so you still get 1/2 dep depending on the price of your cruise it may or may not work for you. I havent heard anything about a 50% of your cruise dep  I hope this is not true :sad2:

Me too! 50% deposit seems steep....maybe it was just for the Inaugural Sailing? :sad1:

There was a thread on here claiming it was 50% and that freaked me out. However, we booked last week and only wound up putting down around $1300 for five of us (two cabins) - so not too bad. DH just figured out today how many more hours I have to sub to pay the Fantasy cruise....and get the deposit for the next cruise we book onboard!

Whew! I haven't booked a cruise on the Fantasy, waiting for cruises closer to the end of the year. We leave on our Eastern Caribbean cruise in three weeks, may check it out then and see...maybe a dummy cruise until the dates we really want are opened.
Hey everyone! I'm new to the group! DM, DD, DD11, DD6 plus about 10 family members and 5 friends will be joining for our 1st Disney cruise! We are so excited that we can't wait!

Welcome! The FE is basically a pocket file that hangs outside the stateroom door. People in the group know where the FE folks are located and secretly deliver little goodies. I've read some groups where people have assigned days and themes. Thusfar, we haven't done any of that. I've received anything from pencils to State themed treats to monogrammed towels to crafts....the fun is in the coming back to the cabin and finding the goodies waiting for you!
I suppose as we get closer, I'm sure we'll come up with some guidelines - have you joined the fb group?

Hi all!!
I started a new group in FaceBook that hopefully allows us to have more notifications on when people are posting to the group & that discussions are going on :-)
And it looks like no friend requesting is needed. Just follow the link
http://www.facebook.com/#!/home.php?sk=group_133014253420223&ap=1
and request to join the group :-) I'll approve and we can let the chatting begin!
Also - if you were already in the previous FB group, go ahead and join this one too. It looks to be a little easier in chatting etc....with each other.
Let me know if you have any questions or are having difficutly :surfweb:

Just saw a poster at the theater the other night that shows the release date for Cars 2 as June 24, 2011. Does this means it should also be premeiring on the cruise? I was really hoping to be able to catch a really good movie on the cruise and this will definately qualify.

I bet it does...I don't speak from personal experience, but I've heard any Disney Movie that premieres on land, will also at sea on the same date. The 24th is our anniversary, that would be a great date nite. :)

On our last cruise, we had everyone go to Home Depot and get the Lime Green Mickey paint chips, put them back to back, write their DIS name on the heads and laminate. Then we punched holes, looped rubberbands through the holes and used them on luggage tags. They were easy to spot at the terminal on carry-ons and know who was in the group and at disembarkation.

Musicgirl I am on the East side of Columbus in Pickerington. Where are you? We love the Great Wolf Lodge. We usually get season passes for Cedar Point and King's Island.
My youngest son was in the band until high school. He is a very good x country runner, so he chose to concentrate on his running. I was a little sad, since I was in the band and have great memories.
We just booked yesterday! It will be me, DH, DS (17), DS (15), DS (12), DD (9), DS (6), and DS (4). This will be our second Disney Cruise. Our first one was the Thanksgiving 2008 double dip which we took with our friends who are traveling with us again. They have a DS (17), DS (15), DD (13), and DS (10).
Believe it or not, we were each able to get two connecting verandah cabins right by each other.:woohoo:
First time cruisers joining us will be my SIL, her DH, their DDs (9 and 7).

So, when is everyone headed to Florida? We are spending 2 nights near the port. Since this is a shorter trip, we thought we would spend some extra time hanging out. :beach:

Right now we have our air and land transportation through Disney, so we will be flying in that day. My DH likes the convenience of checking in our lugguage at the airport and then waiting till it "magically" appears at our State Room. :)

I have been keeping my eye om airfare. I am about 15 mims from DFW airport so we are used to having a wide choice of flights. We have been flying to MCO every year at least once to go to WDW or DCL but the selection and prices are the worst ever.
Southwest is more expensive than American at this point and although you don't have to pay for bags, we have this stupid Wright Amendment which means Southwest cannot make nonstop flights outside the neighboring states.
I do have our hotel- Residence Inn- booked and still checking on car rental deals.

Southwest is more expensive than American at this point and although you don't have to pay for bags, we have this stupid Wright Amendment which means Southwest cannot make nonstop flights outside the neighboring states.
I do have our hotel- Residence Inn- booked and still checking on car rental deals.
What is the Wright Ammendment?

On our last cruise, we had everyone go to Home Depot and get the Lime Green Mickey paint chips, put them back to back, write their DIS name on the heads and laminate. Then we punched holes, looped rubberbands through the holes and used them on luggage tags. They were easy to spot at the terminal on carry-ons and know who was in the group and at disembarkation.
This sounds like a great idea!!!! :thumbsup2

I have checked into flights & looks like we are going to be paying about $250 more than what I paid for flights to orlando last December. We were thinking about spending a day at WDW beforehand, but to add an extra date to the flights it was $400 more! So we are just going to be flying down on Monday 6/19 and staying at the Raddisson. I'm going to book the Raddisson today (hopefully!). :cool1:
Just a reminder & to let all our our new sailors know, we have a FB page too - you can contact me on FB (Robin Hart Carroll) or look for the Motley Cruise group and request to join :thumbsup2

We just booked this trip last week and I am so excited. I will be traveling with my DH and our granddaughter who will be 10 by then. My husband and I have cruised a good bit but never on Disney. This will be our granddaughter's first cruise and we hope to keep it a surprise until she spots the ship at the port on the 21st.
I have read all of the posts on this board and "PassPort's Disney Cruise Line". Everything sounds wonderful. We always love being at WDW - and this ship sounds absolutely incredible.
My granddaughter is mature for her age and very outgoing - she will have no trouble meeting kids. One concern - it sounds like kids her age are allowed to check in and out of activities and go about the ship independently. Will the pager we are given allow us to know where she is at all times? Any information on how this works will be so helpful.
We are so looking forward this cruise!

I have an 11 yr old girl and I'm praying she can't check herself out of the tween club! I'd love to know if anyone has heard how this works! I think either the Wonder or Magic has a tween club.
Maybe we can get the girls together!
Does anyone know how many people they will allow to sit together for meals? We have 12 (maybe 14) in our group. I'd really like for us to at least be able to sit together at dinner.
Also, is anyone doing Remy? I definitely want to do Palo but wasn't sure about Remy. I heard it was more expensive.
I just tried to send you my FE info but it wouldn't go through because I haven't posted enough messages to be able to send private messages. Weird but ok - guess I'll start posting instead of just reading! I'll send it soon!

They used to give you these old fashioned pagers & would page you (as the parent) if something was wrong with your child (sick, wanted to leave etc.). Now, from what I've read, Disney has the new "WAVE phones" which replaces the pagers as well as your stateroom phones. I believe that's how you'll get texts from the cast members in the kids club areas. I'm anxious to read more about these WAVE phones in the upcoming trip reports (as well as how the kids areas - especially for my 11 yr. old - will work)

Hi Diane!!!:goodvibes
Question for everyone, the dumb question of the day..... again, our FIRST Disney cruise......... I was looking over all of the eateries available on board and my husband asked me "they are all free?" I answered him "yes" but then started thinking "I hope I'm right". So....... are all of the dining options (other than Palo and Remy) included, including Flo's cafe offerings, etc.? What ARE you charged for? If you get a pop at dinner, is that a charge? Are you only allowed water for meals without being charged? Thanks, June just can't get here fast enough!

You are right Lesley, Remy & PALO are the restaurants where you charged a surcharge. And you can order soft drinks at dinner at no additional charge - all of the other dining options (Mater's grill etc.) are free - or as we say "Part of the Package" b/c of course you are paying for it as part of your overall cruise cost :thumbsup2

Hi Mary,
Being from the northeast, I can say that I am definitely “dreaming” of warmer days. I even watched an episode of CSI Miami to help get rid of the winter blues!
I have not reached out to DCL yet to determine the schedule and would love to hear back when you receive a response.
Keep warm!

Hi, Leslie! To piggy back on what Robin said, soda and other choices (like at the resorts) during the day is also included -- provided you go to the drink stations on the ship deck. Room service or bar drinks (including non alcoholic) are charged... including bottled water, so that is why they offer that bottled water package for purchase, and beer can be purchased that way, in a package vs. singles at the bar.... We have never done this, brought our own, and they brought us water on ice from the bar whenever we asked... There isn't a charge for room service food, but I think there is a fee for using room service... I think... other than tip... I can't remember....
There are lots of options!

No charge for room service, just a gratuity if you choose (we always do).
We are not big drinkers, but do like a glass of wine before/with dinner and a cold beer in the sunshine! We don't bother to bring beer on board (we just bite the bullet and pay the price for an occasional brew on the ship or Castaway Cay). We do usually bring a bottle or two of wine in our hand luggage. Sometimes we'll bring one bottle to dinner and pay the corking fee (I think it was $10 or $15 last time we cruised) and then have one glass each...lasts 2-3 dinners. Most often we just have a glass in our room while we prepare to go to dinner. We "order" two empty wine glasses and a corkscrew from room service as soon as we get underway and just wash them out ourselves. We are not by any means wine snobs, but I'd rather pay a corking fee on top of a wine I know we really like then pay virtually the same price for a bottle of wine sold in every grocery store for $7 a bottle. We helped limit the risk of breakage by picking up Bottle Armor (first thing I ever purchased through the Sky Mall catalog on an airplane!). It protects up to two wine bottles from breakage or leakage. Bubble wrap and some Zip-locs work too, but the bottle armor is less bulky. There are other brands available now on Amazon that do the same thing, and cheaper than SkyMall. I have to say I've done it both ways, and was happy to have the leftover bubble wrap on the way home to pack up some seashells I found!
It's a fact of life that alcohol at most places on and off cruise ships is obscenely marked up, but since you know that going in, just factor it into the cost of enjoying your favorite merlot in a location outside your own home! We rarely drink "hard" liquor, but I know plenty of cruisers who bring theirs on board. DCL is one of the few major cruise lines that will let you bring any booze on board. We went to Alaska on NCL, and couldn't get permission to bring aboard one special bottle of our favorite wine for our wedding anniversary.

Just to throw in my experience - the last 2 times we were on the Magic (December 2008 & December 2007) we purchased our own case of water off-site & stuck a luggage tag on it & left it with our luggage curbside. For those who have cruised lately - can you still do this??
And for the alcohol part - we have a soft sided rolling cooler. We put warm beer & and fifth of Captain Morgan in that, NO ICE, and carried that on board with us. Drawback is of course it's warm.....and you have to lug it around with you until you can get to your stateroom - BUT on the plus side, your cabin steward will fill it up with ice if you ask (Keep it in the tub AND tip well) and then once it's empty you have another carry on bag now empty for all those newly purchased souvieneers!! We don't fly down with the alcohol (we live in Maryland). The towncar service that we use allows us one 30 minute stop - so we use that to stop off at a liquor store on our way to the Port. :woohoo: DH is not a wine drinker, so if I'm so inclined, I'll just have a glass with dinner (purchased at dinner).

1. What is the dress code for the 3 main dining restaurants?
2. If the kids dont want to eat with us and want to stay in the clubs, can they do that? Do they feed them there? Do we have to let someone at the restaurant know that the kids aren't coming?
3. Is there a pirate night? What does that mean?
4. Where do you eat breakfast and lunch?
5. What is open on the ship when the ship is in port?
6. Is the entertainment a rotation thing like the dining? Howmany different types of entertainment are there?
Again SO SORRY for all the questions but I am SO confused! Thanks!:goodvibes

I'll try to answer, but its been a few years since our last DCL trip....does that sound like going to confession.....
1)dress code...I think they do have a standard. Ds usually did khaki pants, when he was younger, he wore khaki shirts and a polo. Dh generally does the polo and the khaki pants. He probably will only bring 1 or 2 pair and take them off right after dinner. I generally wear a skort or a simple dress. You know the ones that you can throw in a suitcase!
Of course formal night is different. Suit and jacket for the guys or tux. Ladies a dress.
I'm sure someone will jump in with the exact description.
2) The kids can stay in the clubs. I believe they do have a dinner time scheduled. You can always have them order room service or eat somewhere before they go to the clubs. You do not have to tell the servers. We only generally tell the servers if we all won't be there for dinner.
3) Pirate night is a theme night. Many people dress up in costumes as the servers will. There is a party by the pool of course pirate themed and fireworks!
4) Eat where ever you want. Room service (remember the tip is cash), some of the main restuarants are open, there is always the buffet....if you look up dining on the site, it will list them all.
5) Basically you can not buy anything (souvies, clothing, sun screen) in port on the ship. The stores are closed. The pools and the food places are open.
6) There generally is a main show each night. Everybody does the Pirate party at the same time. You will have an assigned dinner time and an assigned show time. There are also tons of entertainment during the day and during the evening. You will get a detailed schedule each day with activities.
Someone refresh my memory....what are the dailies...patters called on DCL. Man has it been too long!!! Is it Navigator??
Never be afraid to ask questions...people who cruise love to answer!

Yes this is the policy. It has to be carried on with you (all food and beverages).
Also I emailed DCL and they said they are no longer offering show days or theme night schedules in advance for the ship...you have to wait to see your navigator:confused3

Hi there -- am I missing where our Alt Itinerary type is posted? :magnify: Are we B or C? I see these listed for the five night, but I may not be looking in the right place to confirm if we are the "B" itinerary or the "C"... Just think it will be helpful to know for planning! Thanks!

You probably know what you are talking about!! I have to look on the documents when we booked it, I bet it is there. that is the "B" itinerary... the other one has the day at sea on the end... but still with two CC stops... anyhow, I'll nose around some more.

I think you are both correct. It is listed as Alternate Itinerary B .The difference is that in the regular itinerary the order is different (sea day is swapped with Nassau). Regular itinerary sets sail on Sunday while we leave on Tuesday. Yes, I am counting the days!

trying to catch up on the thread. My parents may be joining us. I just checked air fare and it is high-I may wait and hope it comes down.
We were on the Maiden Dream if anyone has any questions.
Is there a roster of who is on this cruise somewhere in the thread. Also where is the FE roster. I did receive it, but now can't find it.
I have a question about the FE-- will those participating be willing to drop off gifts to the concierge lounge? We may have a cat T and on the recent cruise upgraded to cat V and only got a handful of gifts with over 80 rooms participating. we were disappointed to see all the great gifts in the Fish extenders when we were delivering ours.
To anyone that has ever thought of linking dinner reservations- we did it on the Maiden voyage and made some great friends from the dis boards.

Hi Beth,
We will be on this cruise with our granddaughter. She will be 10 but she is very mature for her age and I am guessing she will be more comfortable with the "tweens". Do you know how strict the rules on age ranges are in the childrens/tweens programs? Also, how did the wave phones operate?
Thanks for any info you can provide,
Donna

on previous cruises they were lenient about the club ages but not sure if that has tightened up. they do try to make you happy so if you ask I think they will let her.
We did not personally use the wave phones but they seemed to work well. Two per cabin so you can keep track of each other and you can add other numbers of people you meet as well to call them. I think they are a great idea when traveling with kids old enough to be alone but that still need to check in periodically.

Beth, I'll swing a few questions your way.
Obviously the ship must have been crowded. How was the pool situation, both the adult and the family pools?
How was the motion? I can get very motion sick. I stick to my dramamine less drowsy and it works about 95% unless it is pretty wavy. We are forward which I think was a mistake on DCL fault because I always go aft. My fault as well because I didn't check my ressie very carefully.
I've heard some negative things that I'm sure will work themselves out. Were there really problems or just people who expected the perfect cruise?
I was also checking DCL last night and it appears to be sold out. I wonder if when our payment deadline rolls around rooms will open up so that I can go aft.

Beth - I have your FE info. I don't have the info posted on these public boards because...well, they're public. But I can send the list later to you this weekend.
As far as delivering to concierge - I think we'll just have to agree that anything to go to concierge-level rooms will have to be left at guest services for them to put in the fish extenders. That way - everyone can participate.

Yes I was- I remember you from then. Since then I have not met many people from the boards until the Maiden voyage-what a great group of people we sailed with!

I found my list so you don't need to send another one, when you update please add my parents- Betty and Joe to our room. They will be passing out their own gift as well.
Guest services seems like a goood idea for gifts on 12 &11, but they were not on the ball on the maiden voyage, they seemed clueless about everything- maybe all new people. The concierge said it was possible to bring them to the lounge and knock on the door. a CM is in there from 7-10 and would then place them in the room. That might be easier than standing in the guest services line which was always very long on our cruise.

There were only 3200 guests on our cruise and the weather was not hot so the pools were not too busy. Unfortunately the pools are not any bigger. They have Nemo's Reef for toddlers, but many very small children were also in the Mickey pool. The hot tubs were filled beyond capacity-they looked like sardines! The adult pool is set up so there are very few chairs around it and it is shaded a lot by deck 12. They have most of the lounge chairs for adults on deck 12 overlooking the pool. I think if our cruise is sold out, it will be crowded at the pool area. They had the majority of deck chairs on 12. The lines at FLo's could also get long and are right in the line of traffic. Saw several rude people walk right into someone carrying food a few times.
the only problem we had was disembarking-a nightmare. we have never stood iin line to get off before. We waited 30 minutes+ in the atrium for the line to move and 30 more in the long line in the room with the luggage. Apparently when the luggage room line was too long they just stopped everyone from getting off.
we also stood outside in the rain for a long time waiting to get in the terminal for embarking, but I saw that now DCL is giving you a time to arrive.
I only noticed we were moving the last night after Castaway, but it was not a big deal, but then I do not usually get sea sick. Odd because I get motion sick on land.
Guest services must have all been earning their ears. No idea about anything. The lines were very long all day every day.

I refuse to wait in line to disembark. We are staying overnight at Cape Canaveral so we will not be in a hurry. I'll just hang out in a chair until they kick me out!!!
What do you mean that you get a time to arrive??:confused3
Thanks

I read on another thread-sorry I don't remeber where that now when you do the online check in a time will be assigned of when to arrive at the port. The poster said it did not apply to platinum and concierge guests. That was the first and only thing I saw about it. I think they want to avoid the long line we had at the maiden voyage.
Had we known the diembarkation was going to be like that we would have been picked up later and waited til the end to get off. They should institute a disembarkation time like we had on RC. Diamond and concierge could get off first. Then they went by your flight time to be sure you got out in time. They also had continueous seating in the dining room, not limited to the 2 times DCL has.

I don't mind the way they do the last morning as long as you don't have to rush for rides and flights.
Hmm....It will be interesting to hear about the "times".
My main concern is getting a Palo brunch ressie. We are going to do at least one CC excursion, the catamaran snorkel. If I can book the Palo brunch ahead of time, getting a low boarding number won't matter. Last time we got closed out because the system wouldn't let me in at whatever un-godly time I got up at. All were taken by 6am. I think we got a boarding pass 6 or 7 even though we were one of the 1st in. Luckily Doingitagain (Marie) was concierge and was able to give us their #1. We barely got a ressie.

Beth, we are forward on deck 9. We were wondering if you know if you can access the forward deck 9 through doors on that deck. I know sometimes you have to go to another deck to access stairs up and down to certain areas.
I know it is a long shot, but I am curious.

From what I remember from giving out our FE gifts there is access from the front all the way to the back, so you can use any stairs or elevators, but I could be mistaken. We were forward on 12 and did not feel any motion in the cabin, but if you want to be aft something may open up as payment is due. Did you ask to be waitlisted for what you want?

I am definitely going to keep an eye out.....maybe to upgrade even. We also got to thinking that it is near the adult areas and I think the rooms may be different slightly so it could be interesting.

they have Pink-which is a champagne bar,Skyline-which changes the background every night- laid back, 687-like diversions, sports bar with several tv's, evolution-dance bar, and maybe one more. There are also quite a few bars on deck and one in the atrium and one near cove cafe. The only area that seemed small to me was by the adult pool, but everyone has a different perception

Just found this thread today. My family (Me, DW, DS - 12, and DD - 7) are very eagerly awaiting our first Disney Cruise. We decided to "trade-in" our annual WDW trip for a cruise. Like my Disboarders I'm OCD, so I'm feverishly (and foolishly) trying to get as up to speed as possible. I've got 134 days to do so! DBXAZD was nice enough to accept my request for the Private FB page - so I'll have to get my wife to teach me how to use Facebook! Or just get her to do it. We're looking forward to conversing with everyone, meeting everyone, participating in the FE process, etc.

That's great to hear. Disney definitely does it right. BTW - I see you are from Northern Virginia. I grew up in Manassas. My Dad still lives there, although I don't get up there much anymore. Looking forward to meeting you.

my TA said right now there is not 1 room available on our cruise. Those pools will be crowded sailing with a full ship, also long lines for the aquaduck. We stayed onboard at castaway and found the lines then were very short. My parents will be going with us and my mom needs to use a scooter so I'm not sure if we will get off this time either.
