I have that scheduled as a rest day - as the day before I have a 16 miler planned (had to move my long runs around since I will be at the NASCAR races this weekend) I might be able to move the schedule around so I get a 10k in on Thanksgiving morning. That would leave me free to relax on my bday - which is the next day.
I will let you know later if I will be participating. Sounds fun though. Maybe we should have more of these "virtual" races.
dsnyfan21
11-16-2009, 01:16 PM
Tricia: Ok, let me know!
Liz: I can add you to the virtual Scream Team with Chester!
OK, I will come up with a medal/clipart or something for those who participate and put in the miles! I'll have to work on it this week.
YAY!! This will be fun.

I've got a 10 mile Turkey Trott on tap. No medal or shirt awarded, just a pace race that doesn't allow you to wear a watch, Garmin, IPod, etc. You have to predict your finish time, and run to that pace. Closest to your time wins.
Two years ago, a friend nailed her time down to the second. Amazing control of pace.

Hi, Tracy! Count Noah and I IN!
Also, for about $3 a person, we can have medals made with turkeys on them. I'd be happy to take the orders and ship them. If there's interest, I'll look into how much it would cost to ship to each person. :-)

Hi Tracy!
Nice to "meet" you - and EVERYONE, here! Don't know what took me so long.......I've been here on the Boards for almost 10 years and have worked out every day for the past 8. I am a relatively "novice" runner - just started last January - and have since run 15 5K's and several one-mile races. (Most recently 5K + 1 mile, this morning - my first on-and-off-road race!) I've never attempted a 10K, so I will go as far as I can, next Thursday (or break it into 2 5K runs, if I must! :) )! Gotta start somewhere..........I fully intend to participate in one of the Wine & Dine races, next Fall and am determined to run the Princess Half in 2011! Thanks so much for organizing this virtual race and coordinating the awards with Duckie! :)
Hope that you - and everyone else, here - are having a great weekend!
Lisa :)

Thanks, Anne! I like the way you think! :) I know that I can run at least the first 4 miles........I will probably walk-run the last 2.3 .........or who knows? I may surprise myself and be able to run even further (as I've never tried to do so)..........maybe there will be a "THANKSGIVING MIRACLE"! ;) Anyway, thank you - and ALL of you, here on this thread - for your kind words of support and encouragement! Looking forward to "trotting" with all of you on Thursday! :)
In the mean time, hope that you're all having a nice week and hope that all of your Holiday preparations are going well! :)

Thanks Jen and Tracy!! You girls are the best!! I just saw the info for the medal so I will send Jen a message now. I did my miles this morning just incase I don't get out there tomorrow. It started raining hard during mile 5 so I just looped around to the car and got my umbrella and kept going. Normally I would have got in the car and came home!!

Count me in (provisionally). I will be running tomorrow - just not sure if I will have time to fit in a 10k, or if I will have to settle for less. Since I will probably not be able to run until tomorrow night, a 10k might be more likely than if I found a morning race.

Well, I did my 10K+ tonight. How long did it take me? I don't really know! I had three interruptions - and by my calculations, I did 6.5 miles in 1 hour and 44 minutes.
I know, I did too many.....and that time didn't seem right.

Hey guys!
Add me to the list of people who replied on Facebook, but not here. Since I'm the one cooking/hosting Thanksgiving today I won't be able to get a whole 10K in today (particularly since my sister-in-law asked us to bump the meal up one hour!), but I will get a few miles in this morning. I will definitely do a 10K tomorrow, so if that still counts I'm in as well!

DH and I ran a 5 mile Turkey Trot this morning. My (unofficial) time was 57:06, which is about a minute less than last year's. Then we took the dogs to the park for a 1.4 mile hike, so I officially did 6.4 miles today in 1:24:19.

I'm so bummed. I'm out. I got up at 8:00 this morning to take the dogs out, and I couldn't put weight on my right knee. I did something to it during my 18 miler on Sunday, but I really thought it would be better by today. I'm going to take the dogs for a walk this afternoon, but that'll be it for me today. :sad2:
And I was really excited because I was going to take my new German Shepherd, Sasha, with us today! My other German Shepherd Jack has been on EVERY SINGLE run I've ever done, but Sasha is just getting her leash manners up to the point where I could run with her. Oh well, there are other runs, I guess...
Happy Thanksgiving, all!

Noah decided our Turkey Trot was a training walk. Then he got sidetracked and made me walk all over, through fields and grass and then, in honor of Mt. Trashmore, past the mounds of recycling center compost. He also made me jaywalk in front of a cop. Things he thinks are funny...
Anyway, we did 7.25 miles, but our 6.5 mile time was 2:07. Not very racy, but we did it. :-)

Honolulu Turkey Trot 10 miler.
I predicted my time at 1:27:30. My finishing time was 1:27:38. 8 seconds over placed me 19th overall in time predictions, out of nearly 1,000 participants. My training partner was 4 seconds under his prediction of 1:27:27, or 1:27:23. He was 12th overall. Prize for both of us, a Zippy's pumpkin pie. One of our clinic members was 1 second over his predicted time, earning him first place, and two inter-island round trip airline tickets.
I forgot to mention, no watches, Garmins, or Ipods are allowed on the course. The finisher's clock points away from you at the finish, so you can not see until you run through the finish line.

Great job everyone and I hope it made the turkey and fixing taste better (or at least come with a little less guilt).
I did the local 5 Mile Turkey Trot in 32:28 and used the warm up and cool down for my last 1.2. I didn't time it but my normal pace for both is just over 7 so to make it a 10K time I would guess it took about 8:40 so my 10K time was 41:08.

Diane - love the pictures!!!! Wow, you are speedy! Looks like you have a good area for training. I wish we had something like that. Good job.
I never did a 10K but something close. Hope it counts...
On Wednesday, I did a 5 mile walk with some friends. Later that day, I rode my bike for 10 miles. On Thursday, back to the bike for 15 miles. It was a bit chilly and windy but I survived. Also, I didn't feel as guilty for eating a little too much for Thanksgiving dinner later that night. Today, I did a 6-miler with a friend...felt a little sluggish from over-indulging the night before. :rolleyes1
On tap tomorrow - 8 miles.

I did my 10k yesterday in 1:35:37. I decided to be "green" and combined the walk with some errands... went to the post office, did a lap around a park to get in some distance, stopped at Costco to pick up some photo prints, then headed home for one final lap around the neighborhood to make it to 6.2 miles.
Big thanks to Tracy for organizing this virtual event!!! :thumbsup2 I've done some type of race every month since April 2008 but wasn't able to get anything in for November. So this Turkey Trot was perfectly timed and I'm going to count it as my November event.

Spent the morning driving five hours or so, got to relatives just in time for lunch, so my run was at the end of the day. Sadly - I did do somewhat of a 10k - on the treadmill - except I forgot to go the extra .2 miles - so I guess I can say at least I got 6 miles in but I guess I didn't finish the Turkey Trot 10k - my first DNF

I thought I replied to this thread earlier and said I was doing it, but don't see my post now. Anyway, finished in 59:35. I enjoyed the virtual race!

OK, I'm not the race director, but I say to tack 0.2 on another run adn call it good. This was supposed to be for fun and a small mental error shoudl not take that away.

Thanks Carrie - I was off the treadmill and in the shower when I realized - duh I didn't finish the race. LOL No sweat - at least I made the effort to do something.

If your treadmill had any sort of cool-down period after the 6 miles, you probably came close enough. (Heck, there is a race I run every year that is listed as a 10k, but is barely over 6 miles.)

No worries. (I meant to add a smiley in my post as well.) I figured I could use a bandit race or two, to add to my street cred or something. ;)

Okay, I noticed on Saturday that people were still signing up for medals, so I waited until today. Mooshu, you're in. I'm in the process of sending out the PayPal billing now. You should have it within the hour, I suspect.
Bills will come from "Tailored Ceremonies" because that's my business acct (well, really PayPal merged that acct with my personal acct, but whatever).
Let's see if we can have payment due by Friday, so that those who get paid 30th/1st/Thurs/Fri can all have shiny new checks in their bank accts. I'll put the order in on Saturday, we'll have them here by the following Friday, and with the exception of the overseas medal, they should be in your hands the following week. :-)
That presupposes everything goes to plan. ;-)
If you're a last minute Turkey medal desirer (is that a word?), PM me with your email address/full name and I'll get a bill to you as soon as I can, to be paid by Friday.
Thanks to Tracy for organizing this!
Love,
Duckie

Thanks - ok so my time wasn't great - I was on the treadmill and it was Thanksgiving and I just wanted to be done - so my time for 6 miles is 83 minutes or 1 hour 23 mins - yikes that is a bad time for me. Oh well like you said Tracy at least I got up and was moving.
Jen is it too late for a medal request - I really thought I blew it by missing the .2 miles.

Hi, all.
I have logged in everyone to this point. All latecomers have been sent invoices and almost everyone has paid. I got home late and need to get some rest. Anyone else who wants in, I can send out invoices again tomorrow to be paid right away.
Thank you so much everyone for being so patient. I'm working on addressing envelopes so we'll be ready to go when the medals come in.

I have three people who, according to PayPal, have not completed their payments. I sent reminders to those three people--if you got one, please confirm that you have finished the payment. It still says "pending" on my end and I have no other receipt at this time.
Thank you! I'll be sending out the order this evening. It's a weekend, so it won't change the shipping estimates. The order should still be processed tomorrow morning, and I hope to have them by Saturday still.
Have a great day everyone!

Hello, Trotting WISHers!
The order has been placed! I should have them by Friday (they try to get them out the door in 48 hours and they are coming to NJ from NY, so there's a good chance they'll be here quickly, according to the person I spoke with at the company).
Noah and I will work on getting the labels all printed and the medals in the mail by early next week.
Congratulations! Your medals will be in the mail soon! Woohoo!

Sorry, Suzanne and all.
The medals are IN! I have assembled them (the engraving plates needed to be attached to the back) and we are still working on the label/postage printing. They will be in the mail soon!
I'll take a photo of the Noah wearing one when we find our camera (we are still unable to unpack from our move last month).

Of course, Saturday we were snowed in. Working on getting the medals out today (tomorrow at the latest). We only have one car that can drive with all this ice. Mustang is sleeping in the driveway.
Yes, we moved the first week of November. We bought my parents' house, but their new house isn't ready yet. They probably won't move out for a few more weeks/a month or so. As a result, we can't really unpack anything for now because we have two houses of stuff here. Good thing it's a pretty big house!
Jeanne, for some reason your payment had come through as "Pending," and shortly after I send you the reminder it finalized as paid. I'm not sure what the deal is on why it worked out that way, but it finally came through.
Have a great week, every one!
