We have the regular dining plan and with a 4 year old, i really don't want to have to BE anywhere at a certain time. It's just going to be too much. Can I downgrade my plan to the basic package even though I already paid in full on my Disney Visa card? How do I change it? Or can I? We don't go till Jan 28th. :confused3

I'm sure you can change it to the QSDP, but I'm sure there is a change fee to downgrade.
Are you sure you want to change? We liked having that nice break from the park. Relaxing and eating. I also liked doing some character meals and not waiting in line to get photos/autographs. I know it seems like a pain to have to be somewhere at a certain time, but once you are there eating it's nice.

2 years ago our grandson was 4 and if we had not done an evenng dinner he would have melted down big time. They need that out of the park and sit down dinner to rest somewhat. Naps are out of the question for him so this was much needed. He had a melt everyday about 5 and if we were not at a meal he did it ion a line saying he was tired. Think about it before you really cancel,They can refund you I think but it will take a week or so to credit it back and you have time if you do it now, I think without penalty. You are not at your 45 day mark yet.

That's right. Even if you've paid in full, you should be able to modify your package more than 45 days out with no penalty. Within 45 days, it would be a $50 (I think) charge to downgrade the package (they usually waive the fee, or reduce it to $10, for package upgrades).

I don't think I'm going to cancel, but I do think I'm going to change a couple of my reservations from dinners to lunches. My DD isn't a big dinner person, that's about the time she isn't eating as well vs breakfast and lunch. I'd rather do character lunches and if she gets tired after, we could go back to the resort for a nap or down time and then not worry about dinner reservations that evening and do a counter service for supper instead. So yeah, going to do that. I also used 2 credits for HDDR and I'm going to book a CRT lunch and use up 2 so we only have 3 left for lunches and breakfast...

If you try and do lots of TS character meals, you can actually save time standing in line while you are eating and taking a rest.
The character presence is also a great distraction for kids who don't want to sit still. I think for younger kids, it can work really well. Just be sure to check which characters are at the places you want to eat at so that you get a good spread of favorites!
