The following is a quote "based on" one of my favorite movies...it is also edited for content.... :thumbsup2

"This is not a vacation . . . it's a QUEST! IT'S A QUEST FOR FUN! I'm gonna have fun, and you're gonna have fun! We're all gonna have so much darn fun we'll need plastic surgery to remove our smiles! You'll be whistling Zip-a-dee-doo-da out of your behinds!..... I've got to be crazy! I'm on a pilgrimage to see a mouse! Praise Mickey Mouse!"

~Clark W. Griswold~

One of the reasons I find the above movie quote so darn funny is because it is so very close to what our family vacations were like when I was a kid. The way my dad behaved on vacation is scarily close to Clark W. Griswold himself. I remember driving to Walt Disney World for my very first trip ever when I was in the 4th grade. Clark was right. It was not a vacation. It was a quest for fun!! Back then there was no such thing as ADR's. There wasn't even a time when we made hotel reservations!! We got in the car at 5am and we drove to Florida. When it started to get dark we'd pull into whatever town we were next to and start going to hotels one by one to see who had vacancies. This didn't always lead to the greatest of places to stay but one thing is for sure, we always met interesting people.

I remember one trip in particular where we drove from Louisiana to Colorado to visit family up by Denver. Remember, this is my dad so we didn't just shoot up diagonally to Denver. He wanted us to "see the land" and stuff. So we drove half way across the United States.....uh, I mean we drove across the state of Texas because my dad wanted us to see the "nothing" in El Paso. :confused3 We were on our way to New Mexico to see Carlsbad Caverns. Somewhere around San Antonio or so, he decided to skip El Paso and just go to Carlsbad. Thank goodness!!!! Because I'll tell ya, the desert was not kind. I swear there were times we may have run off the road, which I firmly believe has contributed to me never ever being able to fall asleep in a vehicle again. I also became a "woman" while driving through that desert which lead us to have to pull over at a "town" with a sign that said population 0.007. :scared1: It was a small store/gas station/mechanic garage/someone's house all rolled into one. My dad was actually mad at me that God decided it was time for me to recieve the gift of woman-hood. :confused3 If you've seen the movie National Lampoon's Vacation, then you are laughing your butt off right about now....and yes, my younger sister almost "stabbed her brain" at one point. Eventually....2-3 days later we made it to our destination in Colorado. This crazy "vacation" was the longest we had ever taken before and there has never been another one that long since. I think we were gone for over 2 weeks! Here is a couple of pictures of us coming into New Mexico. While taking the first picture by the "welcome" sign, I believe it was my dad who discovered that on the other side of the sign, it said that you were now leaving New Mexico. He had the idea to take the last photo of us being "tired" because we were "on the way home". :lmao: (see what I mean about my dad?)

Finally at Carlsbad Caverns we had to do the typical photo with the Ranger....

Somewhere in New Mexico......
"'Clark'!!! If we back up anymore we will fall off the cliff!!"

So my friends, new and old, I welcome you to my new Pre Trip Report!! Hi, I'm Cherie! I'm an OCD Disney Vacation Planner. I truly believe that my planning obsession is directly related to my insanely crazy, fly by the seat of your pants, childhood vacations. I'm so obsessed with planning our Disney trips that I am now a part time travel planner on the side of being a stay at home mom. I'm 36 years old and I've been married to my DH for 15...almost 16 years. We have one son who is 5 and in Kindergarten. I am room mother for his class this year and I'm loving every crazy minute of that. (again...the planner obsession!)

Up next I will introduce the cast and explain what makes THIS TRIP so special!

Ohh, this is gonna be fun!!! I am so happy you decided to being a PTR now. Great start...love the old photos!

BTW ~ My dad was Navy (forever) and every time we were transferred we drove and stopped to see all the sites...we never booked a hotel in advance and had some pretty funny memories - but I'd not trade one of those memories for the world...crisscrossing across the US.

Anyhoo....I'm here for the long haul!! :thumbsup2

LOL...Rosie you beat me!!! I was wondering when you'd be here!!

okay, it's cherie. i knew that! how could i forget that??

~Clark W. Griswold~

he's one of my heroes.....seriously. "christmas vacation" is my all-time favorite christmas movie. well, it's actually tied with "a christmas story."

oh, eddie, if i woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, i wouldn't be more surprised than i am now.

:lmao:

I remember driving to Walt Disney World for my very first trip ever when I was in the 4th grade.

the thing that sticks out in my mind about one of our trips to disney in the car from nashville was that we had to drink fresca and have donuts for breakfast. have you ever eaten donuts with fresca? it's disgusting!

I also became a "woman" while driving through that desert which lead us to have to pull over at a "town" with a sign that said population 0.007. :scared1: It was a small store/gas station/mechanic garage/someone's house all rolled into one. oh, you poor thing! what a way to "become a woman." when i was 15 we were at universal and my "montly friend" decided to arrive while we were in line for king kong. talk about great timing! oh, the joys of being a female.

I'm so obsessed with planning our Disney trips that I am now a part time travel planner on the side of being a stay at home mom.

so am i!!!! well, i'm a part-time travel planner, not a SAHM. pretty cool, though, huh? i just started this back in may with a travel agency that specializes in disney trips. it's been pretty good so far!

:lmao::lmao: THEY CALL ME STA-CEY...THAT'S NOT MY NAME!! THATS NOT MY NAME!! ......I sweare that song has been stuck in my head for like 2 weeks now! :confused3

Anyhoo, you can call me blue if you want. I think most people say that because mine and winkers real name is spelled exactly the same and we are on many of the same PTR's and TR's.

he's one of my heroes.....seriously. "christmas vacation" is my all-time favorite christmas movie. well, it's actually tied with "a christmas story."

the thing that sticks out in my mind about one of our trips to disney in the car from nashville was that we had to drink fresca and have donuts for breakfast. have you ever eaten donuts with fresca? it's disgusting!

eew, no!! We've done the mini powder donuts with coke or sprite, which isn't all that wonderful either but...FRESCA??

oh, you poor thing! what a way to "become a woman." when i was 15 we were at universal and my "montly friend" decided to arrive while we were in line for king kong. talk about great timing! oh, the joys of being a female.

Let's get started on the Cast intro! I've already introduced myself so lets start with...

DH - 39 years old. We've been married for 15 years...16 in January! He is a really hard worker and I'm so proud of him. He is in the oil & gas industry. At only 39 years old he has been with his company for 20 years this December! He is the reason I'm able to be a stay at home mom. He's got a great work ethic. He is just as hooked on Disney World as I am. He's just not as quick to admit it. I do notice him mentioning it more to people lately, though. :thumbsup2

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2128/2284833514_898d0517d6.jpg

DS - 5 years old. He is in Kindergarten this year. He is my one and only bundle of joy. He LOVES dinosaurs and says he wants to be a paleontologist when he grows up. He thinks this year is his year to brave the ride "dinosaur". We shall see if that actually happens. We do so much together and I'm hoping that I can keep it close to that way even when he is a teenager. In August I brought him to see the Jonas Brothers concert in Houston. He is in the fan club and they have a deal where you can register to win a "meet & greet" with the Jonas Brothers. HE WON!!!! So, not only did he get to experience an awesome concert, but he actually got to meet them.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2613/3827374094_2d8b719fe0_o.jpg

We have been fortunate enough to go to Disney twice a year for the past 2 years in a row. Before that it was once a year. I've lost count on how many times we've gone now. We are addicts, as are all of you! :goodvibes So what makes this trip so special??? Well, for starters February is our favorite time to visit WDW and I didn't think we were going to get to go this year due to DH's work schedule and DS being in school. I don't know how but it somehow worked itself out where we could go! The school is okay with it and we found a week that DH could go. The other reason(s) this trip is so special is because some of our favorite Dis "peeps" were going to be there! First it was Jordan. (Jordanyosh for you newbies out there) If you haven't read his PTR or past TR's then you need to! Then we found out that Winkers & DJay are going during this time too!!

During our February trip in 2008, we met Jordan and his family & friends! Somewhere during his PTR back then he and Winkers had some sort of conversation on how Winkers should go on the trip too. Well, since she couldn't be there in person, she sent a "flat" of herself to Jordan. What is a flat you ask? It is a laminated picture of herself stuck on a popsicle stick!! :rotfl2: Jordan and family brought "flat winkers" around WDW with them in a hysterical turn of events. So when I met Jordan and his "peeps", I also got to meet "flat winkers". The next surprise was getting to meet Rosie on this trip too! (englishrose47) She was so sweet and gave me a "fockers" lanyard! You will have to go to the community board and look up "focker watch" to understand this one!

So this brings us to May 2008!! During our February trip, I fell ill with bad sinus problems. DH brought us back in May as a "make up trip". During that time Winkers was also doing a "make up trip" of her own. The flat winkers craze had taken off by that point, so Jordan decided to send us each a "flat jordan" for our May trip. :rotfl: Winkers and I were to meet on that trip but it didn't work out. We each had our own "adventures with flat jordan" that brought on much laughter in our trip reports.

On to February 2009! Winkers just so happened to be going the same time as us AGAIN!! This time we did get to meet and it was so much fun. All it did was leave me wanting more!! Meets at Disney world are so much fun. We also got to meet Wirki from here on the Dis and Enchanted.

And now we are to the present!! I found out that Scottny wanted to get in on our meets this trip so he scheduled a weekend getaway just for that purpose! Now we have..... Scott, Jordan, Winkers, & Rosie!! This is going to be one heck of a trip. I absolutely can not wait to meet up with this great bunch of people again and to meet Scott for the first time!

Here are some pictures of past meets and some fun with Flat Jordan....

I'll be here to follow you on your QUEST! It will be fun to see all of you Peeps meet up! :thumbsup2

:welcome:

It's going to be an adventure, that's for sure!!

How cool that you both got to meet the Jonas Bros! Was bonus Jonas around?
Kinda scared I know that there's a bonus jonas.

yeah, i think that bothers me a little bit, too, jordan. :rotfl:

I know I've seen it on ET or Access Hollywood or something like that. I don't know a single JB song....oh wait, I do because one of the high schoolers at church camp sang it for part of a skit and all the girls screamed....REALLY.

Lovebug.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Ya'll are too funny!

"bonus jonas" is their little brother Frankie. We didn't see him but I'm sure he was around somewhere. We did get to meet "Big Rob" their body guard who sometimes raps in some of the songs. :thumbsup2 I feel so silly knowing this stuff too but I've got to tell you it was A TON OF FUN!!! It really was. There were other parents there too who were just cutting loose with their kids. It was a fantastic experience! The concert was really cool. They even made it rain at the end when they sang Lovebug.

While reading Heather's PTR (hrlababy), I found out that it is possible to take a ride on the Polar Express around Christmas time. I thought DS would be so excited to try this so I googled it. I found a train depot 5 hours from home who does this and booked it!!

Right now we are at a hotel in Palestine, Tx waiting for our time to ride! DS has his Christmas PJ's ready and everything. We depart at 8:15 tonight and head to the "north pole". I can't wait.

I will be taking lots of pictures! :thumbsup2 Until then, here are a few from our drive up here...

Trips with my dad were the same. Travel across the country, be quiet and don't argue or else - don't complain about the smashed baloney sandwiches, staying "who knows where" in "where are we now?" and stopping to see the World's largest ball of twine for sure! I know everything you always wanted to know about buffalo and cactus, Native Americans and cloud formations. :rotfl:

So our 5 hour drive was interesting as you could see from my pictures. Once there, I finally convinced DH to wear PJ's too. It wasn't until he actually saw adults in our hotel with them on while talking about riding the Polar Express. So about 1 hour before our departure, we found ourselves running around Walmart so that DH and I could find PJ's!! I was sort of feeling like he was being a party pooper and let him know that in uncertain terms. ;) I'm so glad he changed his mind and that we actually found something in such a short amount of time. I even found MICKEY CHRISTMAS PJ'S!!! MAJOR SCORE!!

We made our way to the train depot and got our picture taken in front of an awesome background of the polar express! This picture is going to be our Christmas card this year....

I have lost a little. Mostly just trying to maintain and tone. Lately, I've been lazy with it. But DH has lost over 50 lbs!!! He started right before our cruise in June. He's lowered his portions and started running. He looks and feels so much better. :thumbsup2

That Polar Express looks sooooo cool!!!

Well, tell Mr C congratulations! it takes alot of discipline to lose weight. I'm trying to cut back on fast food and soda first before I start working out and just can't seem to do it. So I :worship: to those who can!

Yeah, fast food and soda is really hard. When I lost my "baby weight" I stopped the fast food for a while but I kept the soda! I switched to Diet Dr. Pepper. Now I do Diet Coke with Splenda. But fast food.....no way can we stay away! It's just too easy. We don't feed it to DS all that much but for lunch on the go, etc for me and dh....we eat! Istead of giving it all up, maybe just make some cutbacks?? That worked better for me than just trying to deny myself the greasy goodness of a Sonic breakfast burrito! :thumbsup2

PS- we are super excited that you are going again too!

QUICK UPDATE.....

Today was DS's Thanksgiving "feast" at his school. The kindergartener's (ds) dressed as pilgrims and hosted Pre-K who dressed as Indians. It was so cute!!

I believe tonight at 12:01 am is the start of the New "Twighlight" movie...NEW MOON!! We are going to see this but not at the midnight showing. DH and I are having date night tomorrow to go see it. So that brings me to the fact that I won't have a new "update" and get to show off my new binder until Saturday.

Hope you all have a great rest of the week!! I'll see ya this weekend. :thumbsup2

As I said before.....I firmly believe that my planning obsession is directly related to the absolute chaos of my family vacations when I was a kid. There are a couple of "strong" obsessions you will learn about in this PTR. They are the binder & shopping the travel sized aisle.....well, shopping anywhere for Disney stuff really. Since it is still early for me to hit the travel aisle and obsess over the tiny goodness of all the products there, allow me to introduce you to my NEW BINDER!!!
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2672/4122255367_579412c4c8.jpg

For the cover this trip I went with a "Disney Meet" theme. We love family adventures and it seems as though in almost every trip we've taken as a family, we've been able to participate in a meet of some sort. My very first meet was Mary(Miz Diz) during the focker crocker exchange! That year I had signed up to exchange a stuffed crocodile with another family. While each family had him (his name was freddie focker....RIP), we were to take pictures of his adventures around WDW. I wish I would have thought to take pictures with her back then. I think we were both "newbies" to the "meets" world, so neither one of us thought about it. :confused3 Oh well. Our next meet was with Jordan and his family/friends as well as Rosie! The meet after that was with Wirki & Winkers and family! Every meet was so nice. It's great to finally get to meet someone you've been chatting with for a year or more!

Ok enough rambling. Here are the rest of my binder pictures. This time I went to Office Depot and snagged some colored coded plastic page covers!!! Ok, let me hear the ooh's and ahh's now! :lmao: I also got some new pens with highlighters on the other end. They also have colored page "flagger" stickers in them. :worship: You can just pull them right out of the pen cap and stick them on the edge of the pages!!! I now have my printed confirmation, itenerary, park hours, magic hours, and friends schedules all neatly residing in my nifty new binder. :thumbsup2 How's that for an obsession?

So, right now I'm watching the New Orleans Saints beat Tampa Bay. I am a die hard NO Saints fan!! I have been watching them with my dad since I can remember. Some people say I must like to be miserable if I'm a Saints fan. I say....NO!! I AM FAITHFUL!! :thumbsup2 I have faith that my beloved Saints will go to the Superbowl during my lifetime. The VERY cool thing is....THIS may be their year!!! :woohoo: And WHEN is the Superbowl??? IT WILL BE WHILE WE ARE IN WALT DISNEY WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yay: I am here to let all of you people know that if my Saints end up in the Superbowl this year I may just lose my mind from excitement!! I have no idea where I want to watch from or what to do about it. Should we head for the ESPN club?? Should we watch from the pub at our hotel?? Should we find a cozy-ish place within the park for that day?? Should we watch from our room?? Although the last option may get some complaints if anyone is trying to take a nap within a 3-4 room radius of our room. I tend to get loud. :rolleyes1

WHO DAT???

I'm sayin' if your Saints end up playing our Colts (not sure if that's possible), you should just go enjoy your day at the park, because you will NOT be happy with the result!!

:lmao::lmao::lmao: It is possible that they play one another in the superbowl. They are both doing GREAT!!

I was just thinking about the possibility of NO making the Super Bowl. I talked to Matt last time I was there about where to view the Super Bowl. If I remember right, here's what he told me:

ESPN is an absolute zoo on Super Bowl Sunday. You pretty much have to get there right at opening and stick around until the game if you want to keep your seat. Great money maker for him. He says September-Super Bowl Sunday are his high season. Who knew?

Most bars on property should be showing the Super Bowl so that's an option. Does the Gurgling Suitcase at OKW have TVs?

You can watch it in your room.

This summer it was found that DS has a severe peanut allergy. He is also allergic to green sweet pea's. The sweet pea's I have always suspected because he broke out in hives the first time I gave them to him when he started eating solid foods. The doctor told me to wait a year and try it again. The same thing happened. He told me to wait another year.....I waited almost 2 and by that time DS didn't want to try pea's anymore. We've never gotten a confirmation on whether or not he had an "allergy". The doctor wrote us a note to send to school last year in pre-k so that they don't give him sweet pea's.

On to the peanut allergy..... when I was pregnant, I read....A LOT. I desperately wanted to be a good mom and so I read everything I could get my hands on. Once he got here I read some more. I read about peanuts and peanut butter and how you should wait until they are over a year old before you introduce it to them so that they don't develop an allergy to it. It said you should wait closer to 2 years so I waited 3. We sat down one day and gave him peanut butter on some crackers. He ate it and semi-liked it and did not have an allergic reaction. We thought everything was fine. He never ate much peanut butter over the next 2 years because he just didn't really like it all that much. He did eat peanuts sometimes when we'd go to steakhouses that had them. Never ONE reaction!! Fast forward to this summer. A few weeks before school started myself and ds had lunch at a local restaurant with my mother. I talked him into getting a peanut butter and jelly sandwich because he never eats them. I though he should give them another try. 4 bites into the sandwich he started making weird "clear your throat" type noises. I thought it was just sinus problems because we all had them at the time. 10-15 minutes later we left the restaurant and while driving my mom home he kept making those noises in the back seat. I dropped my mom off and literally from one red light to the next, he had major swollen hives on his face and his lips were swelling. Luckily there was a pharmacy nearby so I pulled in and ran in with DS yelling for Benadryl. The pharmicist dropped the customer he was helping and acted very quickly which I am still thankful for! Once he had the benadryl the swelling went down and he was okay. I had called the doctor during this time and was told to keep him on benadryl for the rest of the day. He called out an order for us to see an allergist. It was then that we discovered that he is in fact allergic to peanuts and green sweet pea's. I was so confused about that and asked if there was a connection. There is....they are both "legumes". Soy is also a legume but luckily he is not allergic to soy. My head was spinning when this Dr. was telling me all of this especially when she said we will have to carry an epi-pen. :sad1:

Needless to say, this is a whole new world. It is extremely scary sending your child to school not knowing if someone is going to make a tiny mistake that could cost him his life. Wondering if they will act fast enough if something happens. It can drive me completely insane if I let it. Bottom line, no matter how much you read and no matter how much you plan. You just never know. I've had to come to terms with that because it just feels like this all came out of left field somewhere. He wasn't allergic and now he is. They say this can and does happen more than most people know. I am learning that I can not control everything. It is not an easy task but I'm learning.

We can no longer step into any restaurant and just order food off of the menu without speaking to someone first. We had to read every single label of every single thing in our home. Things you wouldn't even normally think to read, such as seasonings, or condiments. Now when I got to the grocery store I have to read every single thing that goes into my basket. If we do fast food we have to ask if anything is fried in peanut oil. He can no longer go get an icecream cone ANYWHERE because peanuts may have spilled into the icecream. I have cried so much since July. I still cry when I discover something else that he can't have. It kills me to tell him he can't have something. I went home and cried last week because a parent brought donuts for his kindergarten class to eat as a snack because they were learning the letter "D" that week. The teacher wouldn't let him have one because she didn't know if they used peanuts at the place the parent got them from. .......that I am thankful to her for doing, but it still breaks my heart. I have since brought a large box of twinkies for DS and another boy in his class who also has peanut allergies. That way when the class gets something good like donuts, they dont have to eat cheese crackers again. :sad2: He is a good sport about it. He seems to understand it all. But it still breaks my heart.

Anyway, with all that being said. Our trip this February is going to be like none of the other trips we've taken. I have looked on the Disney web site and I am delighted to say that I discovered that they do address this issue. :goodvibes They have a phone number and an email address that you can contact if you are going to WDW with food allergies!! ( 407-824-5967 or specialdiets@disneyworld.com ) I sent an email and recieved one back the same day! I was given 4 documents for download. 3 of them listed places where we could get snacks and counter service without peanuts. It still stresses on all of these documents that you should speak to a supervisor before ordering or ask to speak to the chef at the sit down restaurants. The other document was a form for me to fill out with all of our dining reservations and information on where we are staying and our dates. I filled it all out and emailed it back to them. THE SAME DAY I got a response again. They said that our information is being sent out to all of the restaurants on our list. They will know when we are coming and should be prepared for us. HOW AWESOME IS THAT??? :woohoo: Even if this does not work to a "science", I am still greatful for what they've done to help me so far. Yes, I will still ask everywhere we go and still read snack labels, etc. But these lists at least point us in a good direction so we are not left wondering around trying to find him a suitable snack, for example.

I will be sure to report how it all works in my TR later. Bottom line, Mama feels a little more at ease now. Mama likes that!!! ;)

Ok, so this update was very text heavy. So I will leave you with a couple of pictures from our trip last February and the Disney cruise we took in June!

Oh wow!! So a lot of fruits. I know they put mango's in some stuff at WDW. I can't remember where all I've seen it but I know Coral Reef for sure. It was diced up in tiny squares along with other veggies on top of my baked fish. I remember this because when I was full I still kept picking out the mango's to eat. :rotfl: I love them.

Disney seems to be really good at accomidating for food allergies.

Luckily, the only alergies I have to worry about is Ethan...he's allergic to cats and grass...same as me.

I'm also allergic to jicama.:rotfl2: Of all the bizzare things. I had 1 small bite of it once and swelled up like a blowfish.

Hey Blue,
I am so sorry to hear your son has allergies. My daughter too had (yes had) a peanut allergy. She would get congested but no hives or breathing problems. All that came with fire ants. We spent so much time in the Urgent care or ER it was ridiculous. They would see us coming and just pull the chart:rotfl:

Somehow when she hit puberty most of the allergies went away. In elementary school and middle school it was the worst. All through High School we did not have any reactions. Kids can grow out of them so I hope your son does.

You can Pm me if you have questions. We went through a lot with her and allergies but made it through. The Epi-pen is not that scary to have to carry around, but good to have. Disney is the BEST place to go since they are very accommodating and go that extra mile to ensure people with allergies stay healthy.

I agree about Disney going the extra mile. I wish everyone could take a clue from that. I know many places can't go that far, but maybe if they would be required to put an * next to the things on the menu's that have peanuts or might have peanuts, the allergy world could be a little less of a crazy place.

I'm gonna leave Saturday open. Cherie and I are supposed to meet up for MK. I think she eating at Kona for dinner. So after we hook up and take pictures;), we'll need to figure out how we're going to meet up with you and Scott. I don't know where Rosie will be that day. We'll need to track her down.

Rosie is having dinner at Tony's that evening! So, she will already be at MK. We should be done with dinner at Epcot around 7pm and then head over to MK after that. MK stays open until 10pm that night. So, I wonder if 7:30 or 8pm would be a good meet up time? I guess it depends on what time Rosie's ADR's are and Scott's too.

Sorry to hear about the allergy. A co-worker of mine has celiacs disease and she and her dh went to Disney for their anniversary this summer. Based on everything she has said, Disney was absolutely wonderful about accomodating her needs. She got to talk to all the chefs, and for the first time in a long time ate worry free. I told another friend of mine who has horrible food allergies about this and she wants to go to Disney for this reason. I hope you are able to have the same experience with DH!

I recently realized when asked about it that I never posted where we are staying. I'm not sure if I've even posted our dates! :lmao: So, I'm going back to do so now!

The when: February 6-13th

The Where: Old Key West resort. Why? Because we are addicted to that place apparently. :rotfl2: We do like the space and the price is right for a Deluxe Villa resort. We can't wait to hear those favorite 2 words when we arrive....."Welcome Home".

On to our dining reservations. Some of our choices are new but most are old favorites. Here they are in no particular order:

Kona - Dinner (we've done this the last 2 trips & love it!)

50's Primetime Cafe - Lunch (gotta have that pot roast!)

T-Rex - Dinner the theming here is great. DS is a dinosaur lover so of course we need to book this one! We did this one last trip and I must say that the food was good! I don't remember the drink I had but it was VERY good too.

Tusker House - Donald's Safari Breakfast. It is our first time doing the safari breakfast. Usually we do Crystal Palace but it is closed for refurbishment this trip. Not really complaining. It is forcing us outside of our box which is good! Our ressie time is 8am which is before the park opens.

Captain's Grill - Dinner This is a new one for us. Believe it or not, out of our many trips we have never treked over to check out the Beach Club or Yacht club or the Boardwalk! We will have dinner here, then look around and head over to the Boardwalk.

Coral Reef - Dinner This is an old favorite. DS likes to see the fish, we like to eat the fish. Everyone's happy. I will be getting an Octopus Juice at this location. :thumbsup2

Teppan Edo - Dinner at the Hibachi in Japan! We LOVE the hibachi here at one of our Japanese restaurants. We actually eat there A LOT! So I can't believe we haven't ever tried the one at Disney. Well now we will!!

O'hana - Dinner This is a new one for us too! Last trip while eating at Kona, we saw the line to O'hana around the corner. This place gets good reviews. We can't wait to give it a try.

Last but certainly not least.....

Hoop Dee Doo Revue!! Dinner Show. I got us a Category 1 seating. We did Cat. 1 last trip and it was FABULOUS!! We were front and center. This is a dinner show that we never get tired of. It is SO FUNNY and you are put right in the middle of it all. It's an all you can eat style meal that they bring to your table. Fried chicken & BBQ ribs, beans, cornbread to die for, salad, corn, and you also get all you can drink!! That is soda's but also all you can drink beer, wine, & sangria! DS loves it and thinks it's hilarious. He gets into it every time. Clapping and dancing. It's great. If you've never done it, you really need to. You will not be disappointed. :thumbsup2

Ok, to end this installment, I will leave you with past pictures from Hoop Dee Doo since I've made such a big deal of it. :rotfl:

Kona - Dinner (we've done this the last 2 trips & love it!) - this is one of our favorites, too. it's a must-do for us pretty much every trip.

- you will LOVE this! we did it last december and it was the best meal of our trip. the food was absolutely wonderful and all the characters were great except for goofy, who snubbed us. but i think we just had a jerky goofy that day.

Captain's Grill - Dinner This is a new one for us. Believe it or not, out of our many trips we have never treked over to check out the Beach Club or Yacht club or the Boardwalk! Teppan Edo - Dinner at the Hibachi in Japan! We LOVE the hibachi here at one of our Japanese restaurants. We actually eat there A LOT! So I can't believe we haven't ever tried the one at Disney. Well now we will!! - we had such a good time here last year. the food was yummy and the atmosphere was great. stay away from the green tea martini - it tasted like cough syrup. also, while the hibachi is good, i know that the local hibachi place here is better and i've heard others say the same. i think maybe teppan edo just isn't as authentic as the local places. it's still good though!

O'hana - Dinner This is a new one for us too! Last trip while eating at Kona, we saw the line to O'hana around the corner. This place gets good reviews. We can't wait to give it a try. - i did this in 2007 and i think i'm the only disser alive that didn't enjoy it! the meat was really dry but i'm thinking i was there on an off night because it always gets good reviews. go into it knowing it will be loud and chaotic. i don't enjoy that type of atmosphere so i think that's why i didn't like it so much.

Hey what's the weather like where you're at. reading about all the weather in TX and the Southeast......

This little southern girl is f-f-freezing her booty off!!! :cold: It's 46 right now but it has been raining for 3 days straight. Today it finally stopped but it was that misty rain all morning. The weather guy said POSSIBLE snow by Friday. The weather girl said a "winter mix" which is icy rain that looks like snow when it falls but it's also wet and it melts when it touches the ground. If we actually get a collection of white stuff on the ground I will be completely AMAZED! That will make 2 years in a row and THAT is completely unheard of down here.

Snow in LA? Wow!

I've never seen it snow here, although it has snowed in parts of Los Angeles near the foothills....

When it snowed last year around this time we were all shocked! The last time it snowed here was around 1985. Before that.....WHO KNOWS! I think maybe one time in the late 70's when I was a kid.

So, as I mentioned before....we are meeting up with many other Disers on this trip. Jordan, Winkers, Rosie, & Scott. The idea has been brought up that we should have a dinner with all of us there. I LOVE THIS IDEA!! So, we are in the planning / voting stages of that right now. We were all supposed to meet up after our individual dinner ADR's on that Saturday night at MK. But now we are trying to all have dinner together before MK.

We have looked at Winkers ADR at Kona, My ADR at Coral Reef, and Rosie/Scott both have ADR's at Tony's. The problem is that we have a triangle going. Scott says Biff doesn't like Kona, Winkers isn't keen on Coral Reef, and I'm not really keen on Tony's. :lmao: See the triangle?? Of course, each of us would probably "take one for the team" if the majority votes for a restaurant that one of us doesn't care for. So it's not a real biggie.

We were in the process of voting between those three when Rosie threw out the idea of "The Wave" at the Contemporary resort. Hmmmm, I have not tried this place yet but it is one that I've been looking at. The menu looks good! So, I think I'm changing my vote to The Wave. :rotfl2: Confused yet?? Me too. ;)

Have any of you tried The Wave yet? Tell me your experience if you have. :thumbsup2

The Wave would be perfect for me because Wendy and those guys will be arriving at dinner time. They could stop in before or after heading up to the room! Or after dinner, I could stop by their room and then head over to the MK! I like the Wave. That's my vote.

It's snowing again in Louisiana!! Not just La, but way down south in La. That's just unheard of. This makes 2 years in a row! This one is not as much as last year. The news says that whatever stays on the ground tonight (if any) will be gone by morning.

Since we hardly ever see snow down here. It is a fact that we all go a little nuts when it does happen. I will update with pics as the night goes on or until we fall asleep. Right now, it just started. So, ladies and gentlemen.... I present to you..... LOUISIANA SNEAUX!!!

Edited to add the rest of our snow......

very cool!!!! i bet your DS is super excited (and so are you)! i'm a southern girl too so i know how exciting snow can be. we usually got a few good snows every year in nashville, but once i moved to georgia all we got was nasty ice. it's amazing what a difference that 300 miles makes when it comes to winter weather. i've been here since 1997 and we've only gotten a few light dustings, but mostly just ICE. well, this past march we got LOTS of snow!!!!!! it was so awesome. i hope you guys get at least a little bit to have fun with!

here's the pictures i took in march when we got dumped on:

I'm bummed because my high school's football team is in the Superbowl tomorrow and I was hoping to go and cheer them on. it came with some pillows that we don't use but that sounds like the same kind of pillows. only my couch is more of a cream color with brown/olive green threading. it's a sectional with a chaise (sp?) lounge on one end. we originally bought it for our wreck room upstairs and had really nice furniture down in the living room - an olive green couch and an eggplant loveseat with an accent chair that had both colors in it. but our dogs were never taught not to get on the furniture (our own fault) and you can't teach old dogs new tricks and they were ruining the nice furniture down here. we stay down here more than we go upstairs because it gets hot up there. so we switched out the couches. as a result this sectional is getting really worn really fast, but i guess that's what we bought it for!

When my boys play, I'm lucky if I can figure out where they are and in which direction the ball should be going.

And it was! A couple of those plays were unbelieveably awesome. But most of that game was not good. We had a lot of players out with injuries. I hope at least some of them are back for the next game!

We are working on DS's catching skills right now. The kid has been able to hit a PITCHED ball with a bat since he was 2. He can also run like the wind and throws pretty well. One MAJOR problem....he can't catch to save his life. :confused3 We are working on that. :lmao::thumbsup2

~Clark W. Griswold~

[SIZE="3"]One of the reasons I find the above movie quote so darn funny is because it is so very close to what our family vacations were like when I was a kid.

Wow, I am way late and not caught up yet but I had to respond to this first post! We too had these vacations as children...we drove to Orlando from Michigan for our trip to Disney(we didn't have to worry about hotels though because we had our handy dandy pop up camper. KOA campgrounds all the way bay-bee!). We went to Carlsbad from Texas. We drove to North Carolina every other year (from Michigan and then from Texas) to visit family. The best was the year after we moved to Dallas - we drove from here, to western North Carolina (Asheville), to eastern North Carolina (by Virginia Beach) then via the Grand Canyon to San Jose, CA to visit my uncle, then to MEXICO, and then back to Dallas. Ugh, that was a long drive! The smell of ritz crackers still makes me nauseous (we didn't do restaurants either).

I'll have to snag some pics if I can find them. I think most of our trips are preserved through the magic of super-8 though and not regular pics.

Okay, off to get caught up!

HAHAHAAAA!!!!!! THE SUPER 8.....I LOVE IT!!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

We would have LOVED to camp in a camper. We being myself, my sister and my mother. But noooo, my dad had to "rough it" with the lovely tent. Out of all the times we've camped there is only ONCE where it was at an actual camp ground. Right after me and hubby got married my dad was dying to take us camping on the bayou like we did when I was a kid. He thought it'd be so cool because now he has a "son" to add to the mix. My dh had no idea what he was in for when he agreed to this. We all learned a lot about each other that night. I learned that my dh even though he is sort of "macho" and has one of those "manly" jobs, can be a little bit of a wimp when put in the middle of the bayou with alligators and snakes knocking at your tent window all night. :rolleyes1 My DH in turn learned that he has entered into the crazy family. :rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

Okay, I used to teach survival camping but I'm not sure I'm up to camping down on the bayou! :scared1: (sorry, it's a law that if you're not from Louisiana, you can't go "to" or "in" or "into" the bayou, you can only go "down on" the bayou. Blame Hank Williams I guess. Or Creedence Clearwater Revival. I dunno.):confused3

The best super 8 movie we have is from when we lived in Detroit. We went up to Windsor (Ontario) and my dad decided he wanted to film us on the line (painted on the bridge if I recall) between the US and Canada. So, my sister and I (we are maybe 6 and 4ish) are jumping and hopping back and forth over the line yelling "now I'm in Canada! Now I'm in the US!" Suddenly, some man comes along and says, "hey that looks like fun!" and starts jumping with us! So he is a part of our home movies....nowadays someone probably would have thought he was a pervert. It was just so funny and he had a great time jumping back and forth with my sister and me. :rotfl2:

LOL!!!:lmao: I can't remember who said "down on the bayou" but I LOVE "born on the bayou" by CCR. NOBODY can sing that song like John Fogerty!

That is hilarious about the video and the man jumping in with ya'll. Yeah, now days it might be a little weird. :confused3 But I bet it was fun and funny!

On the whole super 8 thing..... I am a member of the local film group here. Last year we had a competition using super 8's. There is no one anywhere close who can turn super 8 film to a DVD, so there is no way to edit a super 8 video. Our contest was to write and shoot a super 8 movie (3minutes long) and synchronize the sounds. It was sort of a one shot deal. It was fun to watch what everyone came up with. Anyway, I thought it was interesting at how difficult it was to find someone to change super 8 to DVD. The cartridges had to be mailed off to somewhere up north. I can't remember where. Amazing how much technology has evolved.

I'm getting caught up and sorry to drag you back to early posts, but....

This summer it was found that DS has a severe peanut allergy. He is also allergic to green sweet pea's. The sweet pea's I have always suspected because he broke out in hives the first time I gave them to him when he started eating solid foods.

My oldest daughter is also allergic to peas. We had never heard of anyone with this allergy. Sometimes when she tells people, they're like, "oh, lucky you", but she likes (or should I say, liked) them, so, no, she doesn't feel lucky. Kind of like your story, when she'd eat them as a toddler she'd say that they made her mouth tingle, so we didn't let her eat them anymore. Then later she had some other wheezing/allergy issues and got tested and yup, she's allergic.

I have an older sister who's severely allergic to nuts. Although she's been getting treatments for years it seems to have gotten worse. She's been hospitalized twice in the last year or so due to accidentally eating peanut butter in foods she didn't suspect (once from frosting on a cake and another time from cheesecake). She had to have the epi-pen administered and the whole deal.

We dragged her down to Boma when we were all staying at AKL back in 2001 and discovered this wonderful restaurant. We only recently learned that she had never been so scared in a restaurant before. She had no idea where nuts could be hiding in their dishes. We weren't used to thinking about it, so it never crossed our minds.

Thanks for this info.! Same sister mentioned above is going to WDW over spring break in a few months. I just forwarded the number and e-mail address you posted for her to contact them. :thumbsup2

Musty have missed this before - in case you haven't already, be sure to call special needs reservations with your reservation number in hand and let them know your child has a severe peanut allergy and ask to have the room allergy cleaned. They will do an extensive cleaning to be sure it is safe for him. 407-939-7807 # 1. Most of the CM's there are wonderful, but every once in awhile you'll get one that is not as helpful. At any rate, they will block a room for you have it will be cleaned for peanut allergy.

Hope this helps! :goodvibes

Oh wow! That must have been scary! My big fear is that something like that happens with his food when we are out of town or out of state and away from his doctors here.

Glad I could help with that info! I was so excited when I found it out that I knew I had to share. I think this whole food allergy thing is a learning process for everyone. You just never know what is going to have that certain thing in there.

Oh nice!! Thanks for that info. So far DS has not shown signs of being that sensitive of it but you never know. The allergist told us that it could get worse or it could stay the same. She also said the more he is accidentally exposed and has a reaction, the more sensitive he can become to it all. :scared1:
